No one deserves to not be respected. But on the pay front, tech support is one place where it's possible to rise according to your skill in the right company. I've heard of quite a few stories of tech support moving roles into sysadmin, SRE, or even dev roles
so - given that you can have prospects for career progression
I think in many cases the pay is fair
