Too much vodka?

#

Or not enough

gentle moss
#

have you looked at your window recently?

#

poke your head out and look for some birds

#

maybe throw some chips out the window for the seagulls

thorn snow
#

met someone I don't meet often, just an acquaintance. Me: "How are you?" she: "trying to avoid 5g so I don't get corona, hope you don't have a 5g phone"

#

....

#

it's ridiculous how many people buy into that bullshit

#

Just because someone claims to be a doctor and uploads some bs to youtube people believe it

plucky ridge
#

I'm sorry what

#

What

#

People

#

What

#

I don't think I can comprehend or cope

thorn snow
#

The cashier weighted in as well and agreed with her

#

I want to go to Mars

#

like, seriously

plucky ridge
#

Sounds like you already did

thorn snow
#

At work, in my free time, the last few weeks I get someone every other day telling me about some conspiracy theory

plucky ridge
#

Not surprising. Cooped up in their homes, it's easy to be filled with misinformation

#

But jesus

#

Like

#

How could THAT even be considered as plausible?

#

Do people really not question things anymore...

thorn snow
#

HE HAS A DOCTOR!! WAKE UP! HE KNOWS SOME SHIT AND I HAVE A MEDICAL PROFESSION TOO I KNOW IT!

#

sorry for the hyperbole but that is all conversations summed up

gentle moss
#

even idiots can get degrees

thorn snow
#

you can also get a degree and then become an idiot

gentle moss
#

there are brain surgeons who believe the earth is 6000 years old

#

it's fucking terrifying

plucky ridge
#

God damn it, Bisk I thought I had removed that man from my mind

gentle moss
#

i wonder if you see the same behaviour in rocket scientists

#

i'm willing to bet medical professionals have a higher rate of dumb than space professionals.

plucky ridge
#

What was the other one... The pyramids were made so that Noah could store grain during the flood or some other bullshit?

thorn snow
#

That would be at least somewhat plausible

gentle moss
#

yes.

#

ben carson is a fucking moron

#

and he also forgot his luggage

#

"oh... my luggage!"

plucky ridge
#

I mean I've done that

#

Or no wait

gentle moss
#

he did it mid TV interview

plucky ridge
#

The airline lost it that time

#

Nevermind

#

Oh HA

#

Didn't know that one

gentle moss
#

i'm trying to find a video of it

#

but i think the only one has awful shit mc turd in it

#

James Cordon

#

there we go.

#

he's also farted live on FOX news.

plucky ridge
#

I mean

gentle moss
#

and got himself trapped in an elevator

plucky ridge
#

I would

gentle moss
#

it's probably the most coherent thing to be aired on fox

#

¬_¬

plucky ridge
#

But I'm naturally gassy

plucky ridge
#

You would think, since he coughed just a little bit before that, that he would try and cough again to cover it up

#

But eh, honestly

#

I don't fart shame

#

Or at least try not to

gentle moss
#

i'm not shaming, it's just fucking hilarious

#

:D

undone berry
#

Ben Carson is an enigma - how can someone be so simultaneously smart and dumb?

gentle moss
#

he also seems really chill in his behaviour

#

but also has a history of stabbing people

#

a walking contradiction

thorn snow
#

@gentle moss My colleague is nuts. He can calculate dBm into mW within seconds in his head

#

I can't do a log10 like that

gentle moss
#

what's his accuracy?

thorn snow
#

well, not down to the last digit, but he is pretty accurate

gentle moss
#

oh shit why am i still at work i better go home.

sand goblet
#

good plan

gentle moss
#

annnnd home.

sand goblet
#

\o/

rough sapphire
#

This hurts

#

Like the code hurts so much

plucky ridge
#

That had to be a joke

#

Yeah, no one would write over 20k lines by hand like that

#

Honestly I think what hurts the most about that is that they're ALL ifs

#

So every single one gets checked

#

Every single time

gentle moss
#

:D

undone berry
#

If you look at the root of the repo, the script is there

plucky ridge
#

Yeah thought so

#

It was far too consistent to be otherwise

gentle moss
#

however

#

the generator also looks disgusting

plucky ridge
#

Yeah that could have been cleaned up with some itertools I think

#

Oh god WHY is he doing that in a print

#

Like I know you can but just

#

Ew

#

No

gentle moss
#

i know

#

some of the issues are kinda funny

plucky ridge
#

It's like.... he made the calculator thing as a joke and an "I'm so smart" thing but has the generator look like that

#

Although to be fair to him, this was 4 years ago, so at the very least he didn't have f-strings

undone berry
#

What would you do instead of a print there? It honestly seems fine to be using a print

#

you don't want to construct a string

#

and rerouting the print out is alright

gentle moss
#

probably write it out like a stream

undone berry
#

script seems fine. It's not the best code, but it is sort of the simplest variant of the code

#

doing things in the most obvious way

solid pollen
#

When you pipe the output of a program to another one, it is taking stdout of the first program, passing it to the stdin of the second one while adding CTRL something at the end, which one is it again? lemon_thinking

gentle moss
#

oh which sig?

rough sapphire
#

EOF?

solid pollen
#

Oh is it EOF?

#

Well okay

#

Can't you insert it with a CTRL something then too?

gentle moss
#

ctrl + d

#

it'll just close stdin

rough sapphire
#

can some1 please help me with cs hw pls. Its about flowcharts. dm for details

#

@rough sapphire

#

!rule 5

royal lakeBOT
#

5. Do not provide or request help on projects that may break laws, breach terms of services, be considered malicious/inappropriate or be for graded coursework/exams.

rough sapphire
#

also yeah @solid pollen unix terms convert ctrl-d into an EOF

#

and don't post in all three channels @rough sapphire

gentle moss
#

people generally aren't going to directly help you with homework

#

jesus fuck the gps in witcher is awful

#

i mean radar

#

whatever

#

it just sent me around an entire fucking mountain

thorn snow
#

Which one?

gentle moss
#

but now i'm there, it turns out there's a fucking really direct road

#

3

rough sapphire
#

D I J K S T R A

#

(this is funny because there's also a character in the witcher called dijkstra)

gentle moss
#

he's the fat baldy one isn't he?

rough sapphire
#

aye

gentle moss
#

he was alright

#

but i lied to him so he's grumpy at me

solid pollen
#

Thanks!

sand goblet
#

I think I am gonna work on that kotlin server

#

But I don't think I'll launch it until I can guage interest and make some tools

plucky ridge
#

Might try and scrounge up other Kotlin folks from like IRC or something

#

Other places that have it

sand goblet
#

Yeah, that's a good idea

solid pollen
#

\o/

rough sapphire
#

i'll join the server and use it to learn kotlin, then

solid pollen
#

Maybe post it to the user group too

sand goblet
#

Certainly a lot of places that might be interested, but gotta nail it down first

wheat lynx
#

It's that time of the week...

undone berry
#

no car horn this week

sand goblet
#

Bwaaaap

gentle moss
#

no clapping this week

#

one dude tooted his horn as he drove past just now

#

but i hadn't even noticed people weren't happy clapping

sand goblet
#

Just get an air horn and a megaphone

#

Sorted

undone berry
sand goblet
#

Y'know the sad thing about a kotlin server is the branding is way stricter

gentle moss
#

haha

sand goblet
#

Not just the logo but any prospective banner

gentle moss
#

remember to raise £5000 doing it

sand goblet
#

It's all done by jetbrains already

gentle moss
#

then donate it to the NHS's budget of £140b

plucky ridge
#

Has there been a proposed ETA on when the UK is going to open things back up? I'm curious since over here the Republicans are pushing things to be open like now. Which worries the crap out of me

undone berry
#

nope - pretty sure there's been nothing clear yet

#

There are people pushing for things to be reopened, Philip Hammond for example, but not near as much as in the US

#

There's been a lot of consternation over the right "exit strategy", but nothing has been decided - and in fairness, it is a very difficult decision

opal timber
#

restaurants are apparently opening back up in Florida soon

plucky ridge
#

-sighs-

#

I guess the only thing that can be done is to just protect ourselves and just see what happens

undone berry
#

What state are you in Hemlock, and how are the state government handling things?

opal timber
#

I've lost all respect for our governor

#

He talks more like an actor than a politician

solid pollen
#

I am really wondering how the ue4 discord server manage to get down every night haha

plucky ridge
#

@undone berry I'm in Missouri. Things are being reopened like next week

gentle moss
#

it's going to bankrupt businesses who are safe and don't believe they should re-open

#

as business insurance wont cover closure if there's no state order

plucky ridge
#

Our city officials are are saying that we're going to be stricter on keeping safe practices than what the state is mandating but like..... I don't have a lot of faith that it'll matter.

undone berry
#

I'm very doubtful that most countries can come close to Sweden-like voluntary compliance with social distancing

#

so next week seems waaay too soon

gentle moss
#

georgia has re-opened hair dressers and shit and their case numbers are still rising in a big way

sand goblet
#

Restaurants are still open here, as are pubs

#

But

#

They can only do takeout

opal timber
#

that's the same here, but dine-in will be open really soon

#

like next week or something

undone berry
#

In the UK they can do takeout - but it seems most have chosen to just close

gentle moss
#

which is the sensible choice

plucky ridge
#

I think all food places are open here but will only do carry out or delivery through services like GrubHub or something

undone berry
#

yeah, fish and chips, kebabs, and Indians are the only places open really - and they're all predominantly takeout to begin with

sand goblet
#

The only pubs that are open are the ones that are delivering

#

That's mostly in Dublin

undone berry
#

Chinese places however are shut - I assume due to racism

sand goblet
#

Most likely

#

It's the UK after all

gentle moss
#

we do like a bit of racism over here

#

really dumb racism too

#

like denying ourselves one of our favourite types of food because we're so racist

plucky ridge
#

Which is a shame since Chinese food is fucking great

undone berry
#

I'm not racist, but ... is practically our national catchphrase

sand goblet
#

I mean people in the UK are already super judgemental of people on the street

#

Let alone this

plucky ridge
#

judgmental of people on the street
Damn joggers

gentle moss
#

anyone on the street

sand goblet
#

Oh man you have no idea

plucky ridge
#

Oh shit

#

I was joking

undone berry
#

tbf - joggers are pretty hated

sand goblet
#

You could have the wrong accent or be too fat or whatever

#

HEY YA LAND WHALE

#

GO EAT SOME FECKIN SALAD

plucky ridge
#

gaul, is that you?

gentle moss
#

man

#

i was walking to the shop

#

and i saw this jogger not give 6ft distance

#

i already hated the prick

#

but then i double hated him

sand goblet
#

Haha

plucky ridge
#

Yeah I don't care about people jogging, so long as they give room and what not

rough sapphire
#

is anyone actually ordering takeaway during the lockdown?

#

i don't really trust what i can't see in the current climate

undone berry
#

I might be

#

it's so easy

sand goblet
#

I'm not, but I wish I was because we have some good fucking takeout here

gentle moss
#

i've been spraying down any packages that come into my house with bleach

sand goblet
#

But we're too far out to get delivery

gentle moss
#

i can't bleach my food

undone berry
#

I literally ordered a pizza earlier this evening

sand goblet
#

So we have to drive out with this insulated bag the size of a small person to get our takeout

plucky ridge
#

You can blanch it, though

rough sapphire
#

yeah i took a supermarket delivery and spent about 3hrs wiping it all down

plucky ridge
#

That's kind of close

#

In spelling...

gentle moss
#

a bleach blanch

sand goblet
#

You don't have to wipe down the boxes

rough sapphire
#

regarding the UK opening up... they're going to be probably 2-3 weeks behind Italy, who are opening up atm

sand goblet
#

Take the food out and put it on a plate or something

#

Get rid of the box

#

Wash your hands and spray the surface

#

Done

gentle moss
#

i still think it'll be a month before we start opening up

rough sapphire
#

@sand goblet that's fair, but i don't like the idea of someone with potential corona breathing all over the food

undone berry
#

Wetherspoons are opening up in June

gentle moss
#

i think a lot of shit like community deaths and carehome deaths not being reported are prety bad

#

tim martin is a fucking cock womble

#

ignore him

rough sapphire
#

ahah i hope spoons go bankrupt

sand goblet
#

@rough sapphire If they're meeting the food standards then they ain't doing that

undone berry
#

Yeah, Spoons and Martin can get in the bin

rough sapphire
#

@sand goblet do you have just eat in ire?

sand goblet
#

We were supposed to start opening up a little on the 5th, but they were all like "hell nah"

#

Also Debenhams is in liquidation now

#

Good times

rough sapphire
#

mike ashley owns more stuff than you realised tbh

sand goblet
#

We do have that yes

#

But nobody delivers this far out so it's basically useless

#

15 mins drive from the town

rough sapphire
#

where i live a pizza place had 5 stars, so i clicked info in the app to see its hygiene rating... it was 2/5

#

so yeah... that + corona times

undone berry
#

If you live that far from the town, there's a good chance your food would be cold by the time it even got to you

#

because there's no chance you'd be the only delivery they were taking at once

sand goblet
#

That's why we drive in with an insulated bag the size of a small person

#

Instead of karening our way into it

undone berry
#

I just stole some Dominos bags from when I worked there

sand goblet
#

I bought mine on Amazon and it's fantastic

rough sapphire
#

i think dominos is probably safe as they're going to have better hygiene enforced than the local burger/pizza place

#

but i'm still uneasy when i can't see the food prepared

sand goblet
#

Domino's is pretty good

undone berry
#

Yeah, Dominos is probably the safest as its gonna get

sand goblet
#

They already have a fairly hands off prep method

#

But now they're also putting the sauce pots in a separate bag

undone berry
#

The way they do deliveries now is with a spare cardboard box that they place on the ground, which they then place yours on top of

rough sapphire
#

what i really look forward to is end of the pandemic so i can go buy fresh vegetables again

undone berry
#

which is a pretty basic but sensible delivery method

rough sapphire
#

there's no way i'm buying unpacked aubergines from aldi etc atm

#

i think after the pandemic i may go vegetarian for a while

sand goblet
#

I don't see why that'd be a problem

#

You can soap up fresh veg like anything else

#

Just make sure you rinse it off quickly

rough sapphire
#

it goes off faster if you are going to do that

#

so i'd have to make regular trips

sand goblet
#

Ours haven't

gentle moss
#

just cook the ever loving shit out of it

rough sapphire
#

i've got freezers full of generic veg, but it's not the same

undone berry
#

yeah, heat should kill it pretty good. Handling it is a bit iffy I guess

rough sapphire
#

i miss the flexibility

sand goblet
#

We wash our veg

#

Use it that week

#

We shop weekly

rough sapphire
#

online delivery?

gentle moss
#

i'm more concerned about the misses being a fucking virus hazard

#

works in a carehome

sand goblet
#

But we do Tesco collection so

#

They won't deliver to us, we're not over 65

gentle moss
#

oooh, my mum found that handwriting a note to tesco explaining your situation works quite well

sand goblet
#

Huh, how's that work

gentle moss
#

well if you have trouble getting to a tesco to get food for whatever reason, you might be able to wrangle a delivery slot

#

ah, feck, nevermind

#

it was sainsbury's

sand goblet
#

F

#

We don't even have that here

rough sapphire
#

sainsbury's need proof of that govt. letter

sand goblet
#

Also f

gentle moss
#

apparently not. my mum can pick any slot she wants.

#

she is disable and her partner works for an engineering firm doing ventilator stuff though

#

so she went with that angle in a letter

sand goblet
#

My sister is immuno compromised so it's been tough for us

#

And I have asthma

#

But we've managed so far

gentle moss
#

seems like you should be on the list tbh

plucky ridge
#

Has Sainsbury's ever run an advert like "Come to Sainsbury's! Our prices are Insainsbury's!"

#

Because if not I feel like that's a missed opportunity

rough sapphire
#

we don't really have adverts like the crazy car salesmen

plucky ridge
#

Damn shame

undone berry
#

That wouldn't sit well with the Sainsburys crowd

#

The Sainsburys crowd aren't the kind of people who go in for jokes

plucky ridge
#

What a sad life they lead

undone berry
#

from Stephen Fry:

I like Sainsburys, they keep the scum out of Waitrose

gentle moss
#

Lord David Sainsbury, Baron of Sainsbury of Turville, does not "joke".

#

oh i forgot his honours

plucky ridge
#

If he was a wrestler he could be "Lord Painsbury"

gentle moss
#

Lord David Sainsbury, Baron of Sainsbury of Turville, HonFRS, HonFREng.

plucky ridge
#

Are those honors or the sound of an asthma attack?

gentle moss
#

one's for being a dude something royal society

#

the other is about engineering

plucky ridge
#

Oh, could also be the sound a donkey makes

sand goblet
#

hm, none of the kotlin-oriented discord libraries support stuff like gateway intents

gentle moss
#

gotta love donkeys though

plucky ridge
#

Yeah they are pretty great

gentle moss
#

if i get rich i'm funding donkey charities

plucky ridge
#

Then you can make a breakfast cereal to help fund it

#

Called "Donkey Oaties"

gentle moss
#

hahaha

undone berry
#

The Donkey Sanctuary is like one of 3 charities I've given money to in my life

gentle moss
#

i approve

plucky ridge
#

I was really not sure if that was going to work or not

gentle moss
#

it did.

plucky ridge
#

But I had to go in with both feet

gentle moss
#

i reckon donkey problems are solvable.

#

so it's worth donating to

undone berry
#

Something I didn't know until surprisingly recently: Mules are half donkey half horse

plucky ridge
#

Yep

#

And sterile

#

Poor guys

gentle moss
#

they're also sometimes better than donkeys for pack work

#

hardier and less stupid

plucky ridge
#

Yep yep

gentle moss
#

MUCH less stupid than a horse

undone berry
#

Yeah, hardiness is what they're known for

gentle moss
#

a horse will ride off a cliff like a fucking moron

#

a mule will be like "fuck you"

plucky ridge
#

Donkeys are so chill

gentle moss
#

nice ears too

plucky ridge
#

Or at least the ones I've seen at petting zoos have been

undone berry
#

also the best Pooh character

gentle moss
#

when my mum had horses they also had a donkey in the field

#

apparently the horses like to have donkeys around

#

idk why

sand goblet
#

the best pooh character is indeed Donkey from Shrek

#

:>

plucky ridge
#

They really need to dose Eeyore

#

I mean jesus

sand goblet
#

lol

plucky ridge
#

He's like one bad day away from being found in a ditch

undone berry
#

well, the best pooh character is a donkey

plucky ridge
#

Poor guy

undone berry
#

just one called Eeyore

gentle moss
#

as if tigger doesn't need meds

#

christ.

plucky ridge
#

Tigger needs to share his stash with Eeyore

gentle moss
#

hah

sand goblet
#

Not much of a house. Just perfect for not much of a donkey...

plucky ridge
#

Until it rains

gentle moss
#

now i just feel sad for eeyore

plucky ridge
#

As you should

#

As we all should

gentle moss
#

yeah but i'd forgotten

plucky ridge
#

We need to sign a petition to get Eeyore some Zoloft

sand goblet
#

he's still depressed in the kingdom hearts games too

#

(also yes, disney owns winnie the pooh because they own fucking everything)

gentle moss
#

i think i remember all the other animals being pretty chill about eeyore feeling like shit

#

in a good way

plucky ridge
#

They are

sand goblet
#

Yeah, but they were there for him as well

plucky ridge
#

It's a healthy version of having a friend with depression

#

No picking on him for it or trying to force him to do things he's obviously uncomfortable with

gentle moss
#

yeah

plucky ridge
#

Which actually, that's really progressive come to think of it

sand goblet
#

That's why it's such a good thing to give to your kids really

#

that entire thing was fairly progressive for its time

undone berry
#

Much better than Roald Dahl

plucky ridge
#

Kanga was a single mother

sand goblet
#

I appreciated that in KH the WtP sections had no combat at all

#

even the evildoers want to leave them alone

rough sapphire
#

kh?

plucky ridge
#

Kingdom Hearts

sand goblet
#

kingdom hearts

plucky ridge
#

And in fairness, the heartless do tear the book up

sand goblet
#

True

plucky ridge
#

But I think the lock technically keeps them out?

#

It's never explained, but that's my logic

sand goblet
#

It's probably something like that

#

although the minigames in KH3 were.. not great

plucky ridge
#

Honestly KH3 really wasn't in general, I felt

#

Combat was nice but like...

#

Everything else just felt... underwhelming

sand goblet
#

I live for KH's combat

plucky ridge
#

And the end was so focused on literally everyone BUT Sora, Donald and Goofy

sand goblet
#

and KH3 had the best combat, second only to birth by sleep

gentle moss
#

i fucking just want to know WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON

plucky ridge
#

It's like you were there by accident

sand goblet
#

lol

#

yeah kinda

#

hmm

plucky ridge
#

Yeah they Final Fantasied the shit out of the story

#

It hurts

sand goblet
#

that's amusing

#

there is a discord outage

plucky ridge
#

And by that I mean overcomplicated it to the nth degree

sand goblet
#

but it's uh.. their tax calculation service

gentle moss
#

i've tried ff and gdude showed me some of kh's "plot"

sand goblet
#

I mean they really did that through all the games

gentle moss
#

holy fuck i'll give ff a break after that shit

plucky ridge
#

Right?

#

It's

#

Just

#

It spans, what, 10 or so games?

sand goblet
#

KH3 does a lot to tie it together, which I think is why it feels a bit all over the place

#

that said, I haven't played the DLC yet

plucky ridge
#

Different timelines, plots, people from different times it's just

#

Fuck

#

It's a mess

sand goblet
#

Oh yeah, these 13 people?

#

They're all the same guy

#

SURPRISE

plucky ridge
#

Oh, and this one is the guy who was these dorks' friend but I possessed his body and then HE got a clone as well

#

So

#

Yeah

#

And everyone in the story takes it so seriously

#

No one is like "Wait, fucking what?"

sand goblet
#

lol, well I mean I guess they have to live it

#

but it's funnier that it actually makes sense to them

#

except sora, sora still gets confused

plucky ridge
#

But like, Disney channel comedy confused

sand goblet
#

yeah

plucky ridge
#

Not like legitimately confused

#

They shot themselves in the foot so hard by building all that mess of a story

sand goblet
#

like "I forgot how to keyblade" confused

plucky ridge
#

MULTIPLE TIMES WITH THAT

sand goblet
#

yeeep

#

but hey, at least there's a canon reason for starting at level 1 each time I guess

#

he certainly doesn't grow any muscles

#

haha

plucky ridge
#

And Axel just got tossed to the side like a ragdoll

#

I was SO pissed about that

sand goblet
#

yeah, but at least he's ||a good guy||

#

he deserved that

pine vector
#

y'all need a YT channel: Hem & G Explains
😄

plucky ridge
#

You don't build up a character like that, make him awesome and loveable and compelling, and then just flick him and he's down

#

He's not Krillan for god's sake

sand goblet
#

haha

#

Did you play through BBS?

#

you get to meet a lot of the organisation before they became nobodies

plucky ridge
#

I did yeah

#

Guilty pleasure, I loved the board game in that

pine vector
#

poor Krillan. 😦

sand goblet
#

I totally didn't play it at all

#

Liked the arena though

plucky ridge
#

There were some really REALLY good stuff in it

#

Like equipment

sand goblet
#

abused the fuck out of that flourish skill

gentle moss
#

there's not enough digital storage to host that series sommer.

sand goblet
#

I'd never have finished it without that

plucky ridge
#

@pine vector That pisses me off too, honestly. He's the most powerful human on Earth and he just gets wrecked every single time

#

His Destructo Disk is supposed to be THE most powerful thing

#

But nope

#

Breathe on him, he's down

sand goblet
#

Did you make use of that skill

pine vector
#

just cause he's short...

sand goblet
#

or were you actually good at the game?

ooooooooooh

undone berry
#

This is a good way to understand what it's like for normal people to listen to normal nerd talk

plucky ridge
#

I can't remember, it's been a couple years since I played BBS

#

OH

#

SO

#

How about Snow White's voice?

gentle moss
#

yeah @undone berry

sand goblet
#

oh god

#

don't remind me

gentle moss
#

that's exactly how i feel whenever kh comes up

pine vector
#

is it the Spaceballs body-double version?

plucky ridge
#

It's literally the worst ting you will ever have pass through your skull

#

Hold on, I have to find this

#

It's baaaaaaad

sand goblet
#

see the thing is though

#

the voice was still faithful to the original

pine vector
sand goblet
#

and the original was on a VHS when I was like 2

#

I almost wonder if it was the same voice actress

#

ah, victory pose is the skill I was thinking of

plucky ridge
#

@sand goblet I think I remember using that yeah

#

I really can't remember much of it, though

sand goblet
#

that is a pretty close voice

plucky ridge
#

The combat got reeeaaaalllly tedious in BBS

sand goblet
#

I don't feel like it did

#

but fuck was it hard in the last chapters

plucky ridge
#

I think it was because it was having to play the game over essentially 3 damn times

#

It just wore me down

sand goblet
#

It was tedious in that respect

#

but then after those 3 you had all of aqua's stuff

#

and hoo

#

hoooo

#

that was hard

plucky ridge
#

Very very true

#

But yeah, that Snow White voice

#

It's the devil

sand goblet
#

that was when you learned that KH BBS was actually a dark souls game

plucky ridge
#

That's what evil sounds like

sand goblet
#

haha

#

it does sound similar to the original VHS film though

#

I think that's why they did it

plucky ridge
#

But like

#

Terrifying

sand goblet
#

they did the same thing with the fairy godmother but she didn't sound weird

plucky ridge
#

I don't remember it being that like.... like it's a dude trying to imitate the voice.

sand goblet
#

Nah it just sounds like a very old style

#

I can think of a few examples from back then, but I couldn't name them now

#

I expect it's the same VA but she's fucking ancient because it was so long ago

#

but honestly I have no idea

#

anyway moving on, someone posted this on another server https://twitter.com/lazygamereviews/status/1255731636127387650?s=20

Welp. I've now experienced the technological dead end known as the J-Mouse 😑

Press down the J key for a second to control the mouse cursor, moving things around by nudging the key side to side. It works about as well as it looks, what an unfortunate way to use a computer.

I'd probably go with nodejs

I just had a weird thought. What would pH neutral lemon juice taste like? The sourness comes from the acidity so....

rough sapphire
#

sounds gross

plucky ridge
#

I would suspect it'd be sweet but like

#

It's hard to describe the test of lemon without the sour

rough sapphire

it'd probably be like watered down milk

plucky ridge
#

Why milk?

rough sapphire
#

you ever taste whole milk then skim milk

that but in reverse for orange juice

tbh i went into ot2 for it

that'd be so fucking gross even just imagining

undone berry

then you can go munch on lemons

and just get the lemon taste without the sourness

plucky ridge

undone berry

I have a logic problem that I just can't wrap my head around. I need to have two matrixes representing boxes, and bounding lines on those boxes. The way I'm trying to do it is have one matrix for the boxes just be X-wide and Y-tall. Then another matrix for the bounding lines be X+1-wide and Y*2+1 tall; then alternate the lines so odd lines are the vertical bounds and even lines are the horizontal ones (or vice versa)

#

but I just can't figure out how to map a box to it's correct bounding lines

circles are the boxes, lines are the bounds. Trying to index both of them

Just says: File not found - D:\Program Files\cmder\config\aliases

sand goblet
#

I recommend sticking with clink instead of using cmder's weird bash-ish thing

ocean cipher
#

@sand goblet What do you mean?

sand goblet
#

You generally don't want to customise the shell too hard on windows

#

it's a fickle beast, but also anything that inserts anything from msysgit into your PATH is going to cause problems for apps that aren't expecting it

ocean cipher
#

Oh, I didn't. I used cmder, not cmd

sand goblet
#

I'm not quite sure what you think cmder is doing

#

but it's not that

#

the most I can recommend to people is to use straight-up cmd or powershell, or to add clink which will give you some bash-style niceties

ocean cipher
#

cmder is an external command line that you can download with linux commands, and other things, I feel like I'm not understanding something...

sand goblet
#

you're not really understanding anything about how it works

#

you basically have two shells that are common on windows: cmd.exe and powerline

#

and one common third-party shell, bash, which cmder doesn't use

#

cmder does use conemu as the terminal emulator but you've still got cmd running within it

#

except now you've got a bunch of msysgit stuff (that's where things like ls are coming from)

ocean cipher
#

But changing cmder doesn't change cmd?

#

Or, does it not need to?

sand goblet
#

I mean, it does wrap cmd

ocean cipher
#

If it is just visual effects, is that fine?

sand goblet
#

it's not just visual effects

#

to be clear, things like cmder exist because there are people that are used to linux that have to use windows for some things

ocean cipher
#

right

sand goblet
#

but they don't want to work on windows in the standard windows ways

#

you actually don't need to download anything to use things like ls

#

powershell has those

#

but they're implemented as powershell commands instead of separate executables on the filesystem

ocean cipher
#

so, what could happen now that I have customized cmder? You would think it was fine because one of there updates was just for customizing stuff, but as I am learning nothing is as it seems

sand goblet
#

it's fine until you start needing to use things like SSH and git

ocean cipher
#

i do...

sand goblet
#

there was a time where it was kind of a pain to make use of these things

#

cmder was a bit more relevant then

#

but today, we have git for windows

#

and windows 10 includes openssh

ocean cipher
#

so, is everything fine for now though?

#

I use git

sand goblet
#

again, I do not recommend using something like cmder for development

#

if you want to have it installed on the side to mess around with, I'm sure that's fine

ocean cipher
#

But, lots of people do

sand goblet
#

yes, well, people like shiny colourful things

ocean cipher
#

Agreed

sand goblet
#

and then they leave issues on your project because something was modified that shouldn't have been

ocean cipher
#

I have bash

sand goblet
#

bash from where?

ocean cipher
#

from there

#

and it's working fine to use git in cmder, mainly, well, what could happen if I use cmder?

sand goblet
#

if you had the installer put everything on the PATH then you've already broken SSH

ocean cipher
#

git bash? or cmder?

sand goblet
#

er, from the git package

#

this is what you want to see

ocean cipher
#

I get that, except, there are a few different places listed for each

sand goblet
#

So you've installed them multiple times

#

in one way or another

ocean cipher
#
λ where git
D:\Program Files\Git\cmd\git.exe
D:\Program Files\Git\mingw64\bin\git.exe
D:\Program Files\cmder\vendor\git-for-windows\cmd\git.exe
D:\Program Files\cmder\vendor\git-for-windows\mingw64\bin\git.exe
#

Yeah, but all for different reasons.

#
λ where ssh
C:\Windows\System32\OpenSSH\ssh.exe
D:\Program Files\Git\usr\bin\ssh.exe
D:\Program Files\cmder\vendor\git-for-windows\usr\bin\ssh.exe
#

That's what I get.

sand goblet
#

that's a lot of gits

ocean cipher
#

Yeah

sand goblet
#

my understanding of the way these tools are handled nowadays

ocean cipher
#

mostly because I have cmder and git bash and git

sand goblet
#

previously everyone was using a set of tools compiled using mingw

#

mingw is basically GCC for windows

#

it kind of worked but introduced a bunch of subtle problems

#

mostly because you're really supposed to be compiling things with MSVC on Windows

#

today, though, as far as I can tell, Git for Windows is compiled using MSVC

ocean cipher
#

So, basically, the solution to this mess is: switch to linux :D

sand goblet
#

you can see that you have mingw-compiled apps in your PATH

#

two gits and two SSH executables

ocean cipher
#

Yeah

sand goblet
#

the top entry in each is the correct one so at least they haven't clobbered your PATH

ocean cipher
#

I added the cmder ones by myself

#

I can remove them though

#

They aren't needed

sand goblet
#

generally it's a good idea to stick with the standard way of interacting with your system

#

you should get used to using things like dir on windows

ocean cipher
#

Yeah, I do that

sand goblet
#

because you're going to end up on a system someday where you can't install gnu tools compiled with the wrong compiler

ocean cipher
#

every now and then I'll use a linux / mac command

#

But, in my case, am I fine?

sand goblet
#

For now, but don't go trying to change the shell your editors are using

#

you should at least keep them with cmd

#

and at most, clink

ocean cipher
#

gulp

#

I'm using cmder in VS Code

sand goblet
#

I personally use clink and have for a long time, but I've had issues with cmder, byobu and other "riced" shell customisers

ocean cipher
#

sigh I spent a while on this today, I guess I'll cross that bridge when I cross it

#

my path is fine though, right?

sand goblet
#

quaint rivet
#

just let natural selection do its thing haha

gentle moss
#

nah, when i first learned you could do this with drinks cans i didn't realise how much it would cut you.

#

i mean, it's kinda obvious, but you think you can do it without too much hurt.

#

nope.

#

i think a warning is just, even for those who are sensible.

#

however, locksports are fun and i encourage people to look into them.

#

handcuffs are cheap and you can usually find the materials to pick them just lying around the house.

#

it's not on the same level as picking, but it's certainly a fun thing to know.

#

plus there are multiple levels to it. cuff up, cuff down, infront, behind the back, prepared shims vs created shims. lots of levels of difficulty.

#

if you want to get hardcore you can even double lock your cuffs. that would require either picking them or some serious brute force effort.

rough sapphire
#

@gentle moss You can do the same thing with a paperclip

gentle moss
#

paperclips generally don't work with the ratchet mechanism

#

they're too wide

#

but you can use them to trip the latch through the lockhole

rough sapphire
#

¯_(ツ)_/¯

gentle moss
#

:D

#

lots of ways to break out of handcuffs

#

doublelock is how you should be handcuffed

#

the double lock prevents the mechanism going in, so you can't use the shim method

#

you either have to pick that mechanism with something through the keyhole

#

but, it's a springloaded mechanism

#

so if you can smash your hands + handcuffs hard enough on a surface, you can break that springloaded lock

#

i've done that once an it hurt like a bitch.

gentle moss

its a request to find a suitable microcontroller

gentle moss
#

@rough sapphire

#

it's called PAT testing

#

it's a basic safety check to make sure cables and devices are meeting their standards

#

so devices like PC's are tested to make sure they have reasonable earthing

#

power cables are tested to make sure they have the correct resistance for their length

I'm nearly certain it isn't. It's been cold, warm, cold, warm, cold, etc sicne winter, and we haven't had two days in a row that were about 50 F or something

#

She's also the only one that has ever weighed over 50g rofl

well keep the mice inside for pete's sake

But I take it it's most likely something ... what's it called

#

some sort of lung thing, getting sick. like pneumonia or bronchitis

rough sapphire
#

could it be environmental?

lost radish
#

Because within a week or two of sounding like that, they look like that (sick af)

#

It's not like a pandemic among them or anything, I just had a lot of them, from breeding. About a dozen or so got sick like that. out of a hundred or 3

rough sapphire
#

o

#

but that's still a pretty large % all together

lost radish
#

but also, I basically live in a garage. so of course, they do as well

rough sapphire
#

okay so that probably explains it

lost radish
#

I got the original two that I started with when it was warm last year. I didn't think it would be this cold. Or I thought maybe I would have a better heating situation

#

I had to go to two different stores, because they wouldn't keep both sexes. A month or so apart. The parents are no longer with us, but ~~uh... (I still haven't named this ~~ Tina (you fat lard, come get your dinner) was second gen. Her favorite snacks include, but are not limited to, all my favorite foods. mac n cheese, ice cream (apparently. first time giving it to them), buttered noodles, baked potato, uhh

#

bbq sunflower seeds?

#

idfk

#

but yeah. I didn't think I would actually bond with any. But Tina's a sweetheart.

#

Oh, and I tried to stay light on the chocolate, but I guess I misjudged.

#

well. snack time is over. by which I mean I'm down to snacks that I can eat while I type. (come to think of it. I've put on weight too. =/ )

pyperclip is growing on me

round rose
#

ooh, I've actually been looking for something like that a while ago

#

Although now I don't even remember what I wanted to use it for

#

Thanks anyway, I'll write the name down somewhere

lost radish
#

I just copied code from one editor by hand, to iPython, to play with it, then pickled it, pyperclipped it, took it to my editor again, unpickled it, used it successfully, but now it's in bytes form, trashed it, recopied the original after wasting 10 minutes

#

(btw it was a url regex rofl)

round rose
#

sounds complicated

rex = re.compile(
    r'''(?x)
    \b(?:
        https?://(?:(?:[a-zA-Z0-9\-_]+(?:\.[a-zA-Z0-9\-._]+)+)|localhost)|
        www\.[a-zA-Z0-9\-_]+(?:\.[a-zA-Z0-9\-._]+)+
    )
    /?[a-zA-Z0-9\-._?,!'(){}\[\]/+&@%$#=:"|~;]*
    [a-zA-Z0-9\-_~:/#@$*+=]
    ''')

Bonus points if you can tell me where it's from.

lol

bout how I feel right now

round rose
#

Regex looks like a write-only language

#

You can write an expression, sure, but good luck trying to figure out what the fuck it's supposed to do the next day

lost radish
#

There were comments, but I deleted them rofl

#

But the https is a pretty good hint

#

But I know what you mean

#

btw it's from sublime

round rose
#

I mean yeah, https, www and localhost do suggest that it's a URL regex, but the semantics of the actual expression look horrifying

undone berry
#

That's not a good way to write Regex. You can split it up and make it actually readable

I copied it exactly the way it was lol

#

Good gravy. The sheer amount of empty files I have lying around in my home directory... Sickening.

#

And I keep complaining, "there's no more room. it's too crowded. wtf even is this crap"

#

it's literally nothing

#

ahh. gotta love cleaning up your messes of files

#

how does that even make sense

#

Oh. It was the 70 GB of DreamCast ROMS I downloaded, 7zipped.

#

delete

#

Oh, here's something interesting.

@bash -c 'exec bash --init-file ^<(echo ". \"$HOME/.bashrc\"; %*")'

saved as bash-k.cmd

#

gotta say, you miss python's excellent doc tools in kotlin

#

dokka is kind of screwed, but Orchid seems good enough for the time being

#

Nice enough I think

#

a bit odd

ocean cipher
#

@sand goblet which ones, I'm about to doc and basically only know # and """

sand goblet
#

Ah, when I say doc tools, I mean tools that generate documentation from your code

#

For example, sphinx or pydoc in python

ocean cipher
#

ah, yep

sand goblet
#

They use docstrings in python

ocean cipher
#

Is that... white theme?

sand goblet
#

in kotlin you have doc comments instead

#

haha, it's fine for this

#

I don't think there is a dark theme

ocean cipher
#

oh

I succeeded in my mission to make VS Code PyCharm, still have no idea why I did it though
