sand goblet
#

And it is used in the real world

#

It's worth noting btw that while Kotlin is the most portable language I know, it doesn't have the library backing of stuff like python

#

As much as I want to use Kotlin everywhere, Python is still much more viable for many things

#

And sure, Kotlin Native can use native libs, Kotlin for JS can use node libs

#

But none of them are adapted for Kotlin paradigms

glacial owl
#

Well, Python had A LOT of time to mature 🙂

sand goblet
#

It definitely has, yeah

glacial owl
#

If Kotlin won't go away, it will get library collection that rivals Java

sand goblet
#

Well, that depends

#

Kotlin is three separate ecosystems at the moment

#

It's actually quite well supported when it comes to java already

#

Native and JS aren't prod ready yet though, in theory

#

It is also possible to write libs and code that targets all three ecosystems, but it's not easy

#

Anyway, it's 1am, so I'd better head off

#

Sorry for the zealotry haha

glacial owl
#

It was an interesting read! Good night!

@rough sapphire

It's just referring to the gradient of red to yellow we use for staff roles, not a full color spectrum.

never touched the store in my entire time of using Win 10

I use it for a few things

rough sapphire
#

i LOOVE windows updates

gentle moss
#

this is a fresh install, so i guess installing the AMD drivers will solve it

#

but it's weird that straight 1809 worked fine, then a reboot fecks it

solid pollen
#

You have an AMD cpu ?

#

Meh

gentle moss
#

CPU and GPU

#

wow, brand loyalty much

undone berry
#

I understand brand loyalty towards AMD - but loyalty to Intel just seems absurd to me

solid pollen
#

GPU? That's disgusting

gentle moss
#

this AMD FX-6300 was great when it first came out

#

plus overclocks like a champ and is cheap

#

this R9 380 was like £160 and still runs games at 60 - 100fps on high settings

#

so idk why you'd be so anti-AMD

solid pollen
#

I'm kind of okay with AMD cpus, but I love Nvidia products so much to just think about AMD GPUs

undone berry
#

Why do you love Nvidia?

gentle moss
#

and why would you stop looking at competing products?

#

AMD's GPU's are incredible bang for buck

undone berry
#

Nvidia seem pretty anti-consumer

gentle moss
#

a lot of their technology offerings are closed source

undone berry
#

Gsync is just shit compared to freesync

#

in terms of their approach to the technology

gentle moss
#

plus they've been artificially restricting what you can do with their GPU's

solid pollen
#

They're products works great, they're ahead on the ray tracing tech

undone berry
#

Ray tracing is one niche though

gentle moss
#

if you're using them to do things other than game graphics

undone berry
#

which is still pretty shit even at the high end

gentle moss
#

plus it'll never be as important as shader processing

solid pollen
#

I mean, I do 3d, raytracing is really important to me

#

Most of the software that I use are optimized for Nvidia cards too

undone berry
#

Sure for rendering. I meant for games where its still pretty irrelevant

solid pollen
#

Sure

gentle moss
#

yeah so is that nvidia's products being better

#

or nvidia courting software developers with free shit for market position?

solid pollen
#

I do think their products are better

gentle moss
#

¯_(ツ)_/¯

#

you're entitled to define your own meaning of better

solid pollen
#

Okay okay, I will take a look at some facts and see

undone berry
#

It seems weird to love Nvidia products - they might be the best option for your usecase, but I think Nvidia do a lot of shitty stuff

solid pollen
#

Their cards looks better than AMD card imo

undone berry
#

as in aesthetics ?

gentle moss
#

that comes down to each manufacturer

#

AMD's reference boards look nicer imo

undone berry
#

Nvidia or AMD have relatively little impact on what their end cards look like yeah

gentle moss
#

oh wow

#

the RX 570 is only £130 atm

solid pollen
#

Why on earth would you buy it?

pine vector
#

It's still a good card. Mine runs like a champ...

#

or do I have a 580. meh.

gentle moss
#

because it's got enough grunt to do 1080p gaming at high quality and fps

#

and it's only £130

#

what nvidia card provides similar performance for near that price point?

solid pollen
#

Oh yeah I got confused

gentle moss
#

the RX 590 is only £160

undone berry
#

It clocks above a 1060 which is ~50 more expensive

gentle moss
#

a GTX 1050 TI is like £120 or so

#

and it's shit

pine vector
#

XFX 570 confirmed. Thanks old emails!

gentle moss
#

it's hard to hate on AMD when they fill out an entire section of the market nvidia doesn't cater to

#

and quite often punch above their weight with cheaper cards

#

tbh AMD is a turnaround success story

vestal briar
#

How much better is the 590 vs 480?

rough sapphire
#

my 5700xt has been pretty good

gentle moss
#

idk, like 15-20% i'd guss

#

depends on what you're doing with them

gentle moss
#

hmmm... how to hide my extra disk drives from work's spyware remote management agent

gentle moss

what is it?

rough sapphire

it's this thing

#

A nazar (from Arabic ‏نظر‎ Arabic pronunciation: [naðˤar], word deriving from Arabic, meaning sight, surveillance, attention, and other related concepts) is an eye-shaped amulet believed to protect against the evil eye. Albanian, Hindi-Urdu, Pashto, Bengali, Kurdish, Persian, ...

gentle moss
#

i just looked it up

#

yeah

rough sapphire
#

it says nazar_amulet
translation from hindi
it is used as a good sign

gentle moss
#

what's wrong with it?

rough sapphire
#

looks pretty accurate to me

#

for example
if i say you have a good baby
and then suddenly baby fells ill
to prevent that from happening
it is used

gentle moss
#

yeah, like a protection charm

rough sapphire

yes that thing

#

so what's wrong with the emoji

but how can this pass the emoji examination without anyone saying WTF is this and is that important ?

atleast here electricity workers are good at there job
cuz if they don't do there job they will be so much spammed by people

gentle moss
#

it was a fibre contractor who drilled through the mains

but electricity people to fix it

gentle moss

probably only take the sparkies a few hours to fix it tbh

people without power get pretty fucking mad

I want to control my raspberry pi with the Google assistant app, basically I just want to say "lights on" and Google assistant needs to send a get-request to a specific URL in my local network (something like curl 192.168.0.205/on) and that's it. Does anyone know how to do this with Google assistant?

undone berry
#

That sounds like its in the domain of Home Assistant which @sand goblet is quite big on

sand goblet
#

Hmm

#

Well, home assistant certainly supports google assistant, although unless you want to set it up manually it isn't free to use it for that

#

if you want to make Google Assistant do things like that, I think you need to make an integration, or maybe IFTTT does it

#

what put you off charrrrles

sand goblet

that sounds like a bad TV show

gentle moss
#

that's a poor amount of information to judge something off

undone berry

basicly - the rootin tootin titties and violence part is fun. But the other 75% just makes no sense. Half the characters are just fucking annoying, and I feel like the world makes 0 sense

rough sapphire

@sand goblet no, it's not like that

#

it's like

gentle moss

cryptic

rough sapphire

undone berry
#

like 80% of the time I even want to skip credits - but the times when I don't it drives me insane to have to scramble to stop it skipping them

gentle moss
#

yeah

#

like sometimes they'll use thematic music in the credits

#

or / and you sorta want to decompress

#

maybe even see if it really was that dude from that one show you can't quite put your finger on back in the 90s

undone berry
#

I dunno - practically every single episode I watch of something I end up googling the cast

#

I most have forgotten Joel Kinnaman's name and regoogled it like 30 times

gentle moss
#

there was one woman in altered carbon S2 that i'm preeettty sure was in a Stargate at some point

pine vector
#

S2 is much much less nudity, btw. i feel like that was a Mackie effect. still good, but Joel Kinnaman pulled pulled off the sarcasm much better.

gentle moss
#

he did

undone berry
#

Joel Kinnaman was the best part of what I watched - I thought he was pretty good

i just saw that the anime (prequel?) comes out on the 19th too. will at least give the first episode a roll...

undone berry
#

I don't actually know, but given that some kid in a school uniform was taking photos there, I'd assume there's relatively free access

gentle moss
#

Public access was curtailed by relying on common law powers to prevent breach of the peace[18][19][20] (although its legality has been questioned by a correspondent for New Statesman magazine).[21] In 2005, Westminster City Council used anti-terrorism powers contained in the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 to formalise the restrictions by means of a traffic management order.[21] This by implication results in Downing Street being inaccessible to the general public as admittance is only granted by the Police to scheduled visitors, Parliamentary pass holders and members of the accredited press.

How do you pronounce Dijkstra (as in Dijkstra's algorithm)

Nvm, I searched it up. It is pronounced "Dijkstra"

Uh..

Lol

vestal briar

Someone offered me £200 for mine, feels lowball

gentle moss

i'll give you a layer 2 48 port PoE switch for it

Pretty low yeah

#

Blind people don't have fear of heights.

#

doesn't*

solid pollen
#

... I guess so

sand goblet
#

That's verifiably not true

rough sapphire
#

I just typed out random thing and it become that

#

let me google that

solid pollen
#

I mean, they can feel the void too

gentle moss
#

put them on a pole in the middle of the grand canyon and tell them not to move

#

i think they'll panic

solid pollen
#

But what if they don't know they're on the pole?

sand goblet
#

They'd know, it's pretty obvious you're high up

undone berry
#

I imagine there are some poles who I'd be perfectly comfortable with - they seem like nice people

sand goblet
#

Also not all blind people have no vision

gentle moss
#

hah

sand goblet
#

You can be classified blind but still have some portion of vision left

gentle moss
#

shoulder ride through the grand canyon

rough sapphire
#

ok i know when someone is staring me even he is not in my view
sorta 6th sense like you can feel the void ?

sand goblet
#

There's no evidence to suggest that's actually a thing

undone berry
#

no, you don't know that

gentle moss
#

that's just universal paranoia

#

everyone has that

sand goblet
#

Yeah

gentle moss
#

¬_¬

rough sapphire
#

you can actually feel someone is near you

sand goblet
#

No, you can't

solid pollen
#

I think you can still feel it yeah, but kit really a 6th sense

undone berry
#

well

#

you can

#

but thats heat

#

and sound

solid pollen

And the movement of the air around him

gentle moss

that's why i always do a fist windmill every 10 minutes

sand goblet

Yeah, that's paranoia

gentle moss

#

gentle moss

if you're in a crowded city street you might think about threads differently than if you're sat at home on the sofa.

I was thinking of posting that actually

sand goblet

"Why do we bake cookies but cook bacon?"

rough sapphire
gentle moss
#

how can our eyes be real if mirrors aren't real

undone berry
#

Jaden Smith truly is an enigma

rough sapphire
#

I should have added themselves

gentle moss
#

work days seem to go a bit quicker working from home

#

i approve of this

#

perhaps it's the fact i rolled out of bet at 8:15, made a coffee and sat down to work at 8:30.

#

rather than having to get up at 7:30

undone berry
#

I think I'd hate working from home

gentle moss
#

it actually feels a bit more productive

#

normally when we're all in the office there's too much banter and fucking around

#

seems if you isolate people and connect them through slack they're more productive

#

🤔

#

there's also much more of a paper trail for actions etc

undone berry
#

I wonder if that will hold true in a week or twos time

gentle moss
#

rather than someone saying they're going to do the thing or whatever

#

perhaps it's the fact everyone's taking cheeky wank breaks

undone berry
#

I can only imagine the paper trail improves things

#

as long as stuff like cheeky wank breaks doesn't enter the paper trail

gentle moss
#

:D

#

"guys, it just jumps from the 27th to the 29th... where did the 28th go?"

wooden silo
#

In my experience, there's pros and cons with wfh in terms of productivity. If I have clearly laid-out tasks that I can do mostly on my own, working from home is better, because people are less likely to bother me. But if I have a task that's not well-defined and requires a lot of back-and-forth with coworkers to work out, it can be worse, since it can be harder to get ahold of people.

#

And I'd say that both scenarios are fairly common.

gentle moss
#

yeah

#

most of my time at work is usually stuff i know wtf i'm doing

#

but being more technically experienced than the other support stuff i'm often offering help to them when i can hear them struggling

#

in the wfh scenario they kind of have to pipe up in chat

rough sapphire
#

i'm hella less productive at home

#

too easily distracted

wooden silo
#

I usually get a stream of questions throughout the workday, but some people seem less inclined to do it over Slack, so there's just fewer when I'm not in the office

#

Or they forget I'm working, maybe

gentle moss
#

i get distracted regardless of location ¬_¬

#

i keep using "that would be great" in tickets and i always feel like uhh

wooden silo
#

Haaaahaha

#

No joke, office work turns you into Lumbergh after a while

gentle moss

you'd hope not

#

i think it's a Win 7

#

their other ones seem to be Win 7 too

rough sapphire
#

did win7's "classic" theme really have that gradient in the title bar?

#

i recall it not having it but maybe i'm misremembering

plucky ridge
#

I think it did, but it's been years...

sand goblet
#

It did, yes

#

pretty sure

gentle moss
#

yup

#

can confirm

opaque ruin
#

That is Windows XP with Classic Theme

gentle moss
#

it's not.

opaque ruin
#

Windows 7 didn't have that gradient.

gentle moss
#

it's most likely not straight Win 7 either

#

it's probably Win 7 embed

opaque ruin
#

yeah

gentle moss
#

win 7 in classic did have the gradient btw

opaque ruin
#

oh

#

Maybe I had changed the settings before

#

It's been ages since I had last seen Windows 7

gentle moss

i only installed Win 10 this week ¬_¬

#

harassing customers to upgrade and my home PC was win 7

rough sapphire
plucky ridge
#

Which has already been patched

solid pollen
#

Pff, microsoft

plucky ridge
#

Also if the argument is that only Microsoft screws up updates then that's just factually incorrect

#

It shouldn't matter what the rest of the people here use. Don't like it, don't use it. But don't try to ruin everyone else's time just because you personally don't like it

solid pollen
#

I have a way better experience on linux than on windows, and I can’t come back to win now, but I’d never advice my mom for instance to use linux

#

I don’t think she’ll be able to compile from source spotify just to listen ti music

rough sapphire
#

You shouldn't have to compile Spotify from source, though.

#

It's just a download, but it's also not in most package managers, which defeats the point of them.

sand goblet
#

spotify doesn't actually support linux

#

if you're using spotify on linux, you're using an ancient version that's had the stuff from newer versions backported to it by the community

#

in a more up to date electron-like container

#

it's functionally the same, but it's not official

rough sapphire
woeful monolith
rough sapphire
#

@sand goblet i'm not sure why you're implying that?

#

spotify keeps their snap app up to date with the current features

#

was last updated like last month i think

solid pollen
#

The snap broke after 2 days

plucky ridge
#

Oh huh

#

I'll be damned

#

🀄 Didn't realize there was a mahjong tile emoji

solid pollen
#

_Why would you be damned for a mahjong emoji? _

rough sapphire
#

He wants to go to china lately

solid pollen
#

Really?

#

But I mean..

#

Damned for an emoji haha?

plucky ridge
#

It's just a turn of phrase

#

Kind of a saying of surprise

#

I've been learning how to play Japanese Mahjong lately (due to the Yakuza series of games)

solid pollen
#

(Nice to know)

plucky ridge
#

I've been getting really into it, actually

#

Considering buying a set of tiles

solid pollen
#

I played mahjong when I was younger on the DS in a puzzle set game

plucky ridge
#

As in the like

#

Tile matching?

solid pollen
#

The 8 years old me never understood how it worked haha

plucky ridge
#

I'm talking about the 4 people playing against each other

#

It's kind of like Rummy if you're familiar with that card game

solid pollen
#

Ah, you had to take out all tiles from the board in something

#

Yeah I see

plucky ridge
#

Yeah that's Mahjong Solitare

#

In simple terms, you've got 4 people taking and discarding tiles in order to make a winning hand

#

Depending on the type of hand, how you made it, whether you revealed any of your triples or melds, determine the number of points you get from winning that round

sand goblet
#

Well hey, if they added Linux support suddenly over the last year then I didn't hear about it

plucky ridge
#

It's really really interesting, and there's a lot of strategy that goes into it

solid pollen
#

Hmm it sounds interesting

plucky ridge
#

Well, okay, interesting to me at least

rough sapphire
#

they've been supporting linux since like forever i think?

#

snap support is pretty new

#

it used to be custom debian repos iirc

solid pollen
#

Their snap sucks, at least on manjaro

sand goblet
#

I mean, it might suck but it exists

rough sapphire
#

snap works fine for me

#

also snaps are supposed to be distro agnostic

#

that's the whole point of them

sand goblet
#

Spotify is on the AUR though

#

Nah I've had issues with snaps too

rough sapphire
#

well, yeah

#

snaps in general, yes, they suck

#

but the spotify snap in particular hasn't caused too many issues for me (out of the norm for snaps, anyways)

solid pollen
#

The app randomly broke after two days

sand goblet
#

I like how we have snaps, flatpak and appimage and none of them quite work right

solid pollen
#

Not being able to find a module

sand goblet
#

You'd think they'd work together to solve the common problem, but

rough sapphire
#

i think the concept is flawed

#

i like the idea, but

solid pollen
#

It is the Linux main issue

rough sapphire
#

there are too many issues that come with what their common design is

sand goblet
#

I mean snaps are just "statically compile all the things" aren't they?

solid pollen
#

Too many ways to do things, too many distro, just too many

#

Snaps are just files to put in a specific location

sand goblet
#

Ah, so just.. Okay

#

Bundling

solid pollen
#

Yeah

rough sapphire
#

basically, yes

#

there's more "gusto" to it, like sandboxing and stuff

#

but most of the sandoboxing i've seen has been pretty worthless and easy to bypass

sand goblet
#

Well, you're the expert on that here for sure

plucky ridge
#

Read that as "sanddoxing" for some reason

rough sapphire
#

i haven't properly tested it or anything, it has been relatively low effort to discover that the sandboxing that they (at least snap) utilise has been sort of in vain

#

i'm going to say that a large majority, maybe around 90%, of the "sandboxed" snap apps still allow rw access to the user's home directory

#

like i don't even have to start explaining why that's bad

sand goblet
#

Yup

rough sapphire
#

then you have "device" sandboxing, which is basically denying access to stuff in /dev that the snap doesn't need access to

#

except, oops, it works on a blacklist basis

#

using a driver which uses unconventional /dev paths? the snap app can probably access it

gentle moss
#

u die if u thinking 2 match

#

seems like a dumb thing to blacklist

sand goblet
#

I don't see snap or similar tools as security mechanisms

solid pollen
#

A whitelist would make way more sense to me

sand goblet
#

That just doesn't make sense to me

rough sapphire
#

i think their reasoning was something like "if we don't know what this device is, we can't implement reasonable access to it within a permission"

sand goblet
#

Either way you're introducing something to your machine and network which originates from outside of it

#

You should take the same precautions you do with everything else

rough sapphire
#

pretty much this, yeah.

gentle moss
#

sure it's safer, but it doesn't feel the same.

solid pollen
#

Haha

amber jungle
#

more than anti virus xD

sinful copper
#

for stuff i really want sandboxed i run it as a different user

vestal briar
#

Lol

rough sapphire
#

That's peak security

rough sapphire
#

@rough sapphire and just like that, i determine you're english.

gentle moss
#

safe

rough sapphire
#

I know my english's bad

#

I can't help it sad

#

hmmmmmm

gentle moss
#

i think he means your use of peak

plucky ridge
#

No I think it was a joke about UK security protocols

rough sapphire
#

Imagine roasting a 16 year old

plucky ridge
#

Oh or that

#

Okay I guess I'm not sure what the joke was

rough sapphire
#

yeah, no, i've never heard anyone use "peak" as an adjective before

#

before I came to england

plucky ridge
#

It's common enough

gentle moss
#

it's common in the UK at least

rough sapphire
plucky ridge
#

Certainly more of a Brit thing though, yeah

gentle moss
#

the safe / standard call / response is uniquely british

#

if anyone ever "safe"'s you

plucky ridge
#

Is that part of the pantomimes?

rough sapphire
#

yep

gentle moss
#

you "standard" them

rough sapphire
#

so many "safe's".

#

ohshit i never "standard"-d

gentle moss
#

smh

#

that's poor etiquette

#

really poor

rough sapphire
#

they can excuse me

#

i'm le foreign

gentle moss
#

safe mate

rough sapphire
#

also how did nobody explain this to me in the three years i was there

#

also i fucking "safe"-d loads and nobody ever standard'd me back

#

not that i can recall anyways

gentle moss
#

when i helped a quake friend move here from france shit like this was like... what our lessons were about

#

sort out good cv?
check
has watched iconic british comedy?
check
knows to standard a safe?
check

#

sorted.

rough sapphire
#

oh FUCK

plucky ridge
#

Cheers

rough sapphire
#

i need to sort out my CV before next month

#

for some government contract thing

#

i've never written a CV before and i'm sorta scared

plucky ridge
#

There are plenty of guides online

gentle moss
#

try to keep it to 1 page

plucky ridge
#

Is that the current thing?

#

It keeps changing

gentle moss
#

that's been the thing for a while

#

at least in the UK

plucky ridge
#

At least here

#

And things might be even more different for Estonia

undone berry
#

One page for a CV, more for a resume

plucky ridge
#

I

#

legit

#

Didn't realize they were different things

undone berry
#

they essentially aren't

#

thats literally the only difference

#

and not even a strict difference

plucky ridge
#

Huh

gentle moss
#

the biggest mistake in CV's is that

#

no one wants to turn the page to read about other shit

#

you're going in the bin

plucky ridge
#

"To see a cool picture I drew of a dinosaur, turn over"

gentle moss
#

if you do have a 2 page CV the page 2 should be like, random bullshit that's not that important

#

if your CV can't hold its own with 1 page

#

you shouldn't make a page 2

undone berry
#

I'd just like to say - I'm great at making CVs

gentle moss
#

mine have been good in the past

#

but i haven't done one in 3 years

#

doing a graphic design course as part of my media / music at college came in great help

rough sapphire
#

well, Mary, our sweet, sweet PR person sent me one of my colleague's CVs and told me to just replace whatever he had in there with whatever applies for me

undone berry
#

I can get the right mix of bulshitting and sincerity

rough sapphire
#

but damn, that shit just intimidated me even more

gentle moss
#

layout can make shit or break shit

rough sapphire
#

he has so many things on there

#

i've got nothing to put in place of it

#

also, i'm not exactly trying to impress anyone

#

i think it's just legally required for government contracts

gentle moss
#

interesting

#

notepad and dash list

#

boom, done

#

government can eat a dick

#

EAT THE RICH

plucky ridge
#

@rough sapphire if you have access to a university, you might be able to talk to a like guidance counselor or whatever they're called to help you proof it

undone berry
#

You won that hackery thing recently

#

that goes on there

gentle moss
#

^

undone berry
#

I'm sure you have similar things

rough sapphire
#

does it? i'm not ever sure what to put on there

gentle moss
#

it totally does

rough sapphire
#

should I list my CVEs on it? it seems petty

gentle moss
#

it's a note worthy achievement

undone berry
#

Yeah, that goes on there. Winning pretty much anything goes on there

#

Completely verifiable excellences?

gentle moss
#

"Historically as a security enthusiast I have discovered multiple vulnerabilities in a range of softwares."

#

that sort of bollocks

rough sapphire
#

@undone berry basically just vulns attributed to me

undone berry
#

Use bullet points everywhere, start every bullet with a verb

gentle moss
#

yeah, that's CV worthy i think

#

at least you're not having to figure out how to make "dude who carried stuff around a warehouse" sound impressive

#

"Warehouse Operative"

#

smh my head

rough sapphire
#

that's honest work

#

i haven't even done that

undone berry
#

It is, but it doesn't sound good on a CV

plucky ridge
#

Bring extra bullets if you need spares

gentle moss
#

at the time i couldn't just leave it out either

#

as it'd leave a massive 6 month hole in my CV

rough sapphire
#

all of the noteworthy shit i've done has either been either criminal or

#

well

#

unethical at best

#

not exactly the things you'd list on a CV

gentle moss
#

well don't list CRIMES

plucky ridge
#

Depends

gentle moss
#

that'd be dumb

plucky ridge
#

Do mafias take CVs?

rough sapphire
#

would you be surprised to hear "yes"?

plucky ridge
#

In this day and age, not really

gentle moss
#

pretty sure i could've got a position in sales management if i put my illegal stuff in there

#

<_<

#

"oh wow.. that's a big client list... what did you say you did again?"

undone berry
#

"I handled various high value flora"

gentle moss
#

"Had to deal with a problematic client base, prone to disagreements."

plucky ridge
#

"Ask your mother"

gentle moss
#

hah

undone berry
#

"Senior position in community driven pharmacy"

gentle moss
#

"Comprehensive understanding of supply and demand."

plucky ridge
#

"Projects Management"

#

"Shouldn't that be singular?"
"Nope"

gentle moss

haha

#

"Some experience in security related role."

plucky ridge
#

Honestly I just couldn't remember

#

Figured the easiest way to get the answer was to frame it as a quiz

gentle moss
#

i was friends with a biology student at one point and she had a habit of memorising bone names on me

#

weird.

plucky ridge
#

Potentially sexy?

#

Maybe?

gentle moss
#

i mean that was the general thrust of it

plucky ridge
#

"Was that inten- yeeaaaah it was"

gentle moss
#

hah, the late show with colbert's gone weird

#

since they have no audience

#

just freeballed it during rehersal and put that on air

plucky ridge
#

Did they blur it out or...

gentle moss
#

hah

#

it's a weird scenario

#

late night show with no loud audience

#

it feels somewhat more tolerable

rough sapphire
#

this whole "let's return to the 60's" feels kinda good

there's less commercialism I guess since businesses are closed

the bare essentials are there though

because people are idiots and purchased all the toilet roll

toilet paper is not a "bare essential" if you learn to wash your ass with water. pro tip.

the problem comes though if you're somewhere outside and then they don't have paper lemon_thinking

Oh you mean those water fountains they have in the bathrooms

rough sapphire

that stuff came kinda naturally after i had to go running at the doctors where they kept shoving stuff up my anus

Fair enough. Think we should probably steer this back towards less butt involved talk

this is like the best talk ever. saved me from a lot.

off getting that done i guess

#

3b1b has a nice one on exponentials, sigmoids and stuff, about the coronavirus, it's really good

tired osprey
#

#

and its logisticals not sigmoid!!!

frosty berry
#

Oh, i guess i mixed up with vi hart's :x

tired osprey
#

i mean

#

sigmoidal curves are one specific case of logistical ones

#

#

vestal briar
#

I hope that's real

#

#staythefuckhome lol

rough sapphire
#

yeah it is

vestal briar
#

Imagine if visitengland done that

#

Everyone would either joke about it or get very very serious about a whole swear word

rough sapphire
#

yeah, we're really not that prude

gentle moss
#

if visit england did that i'm pretty sure twitter racists would be all over it

#

but such is life

rough sapphire
#

I find the lack of discord food emojis disturbing

man fuck bacon

gentle moss
#

that's how they get the salt in

rough sapphire
#

it was not bacon but there wasn't the correct emoji 🤔

sand goblet
#

I see the US is at it again

gentle moss
#

It would create a 19-person commission that’s completely controlled by the Attorney General and law enforcement agencies.

#

that's not good

#

bill barr is a trump shill and this appears to give him total control

vestal briar
#

Time to get arrested for accidently making something secure

frosty berry
#

this ship has sailed, but they are very much trying to bring it back to the port

gentle moss
#

that's the problem with legislation written by the technically illiterate and power hungry

frosty berry
#

it's quite a funny idea to have an empty shell voted into law, and to then be able to put about anything in that vehicle and have it have the force of law

vestal briar
#

Wasn't there something about a law meant for knife-crime in london where if anyone looks suspicious police can search

#

Was a couple years ago now, forgot the law

gentle moss
#

i mean that's the case whatever

#

if the police think you look shifty they can stop and search you

#

they just have to note down the reason they thought you looked shift

#

by the end of this quarantine i'm either gonna be eating pure chocolate

#

or i'll have developed the most healthy eating habits i can

given that food delivery joints seem to have largely closed down.

upper sand
#

just out of curiousity?ppl who go to MIT are all smart at next level??

sand goblet
#

prestige has nothing to do with intelligence

#

I would argue that for some people, going to MIT is a bad idea

#

given they own your project work

upper sand
#

ohhh but isnt it really hard to get into MIT

sand goblet
#

iunno, I was offered a scholarship and I'm a fuckin' idiot

#

it was probably because of my idea rather than anything else

#

we had this thing we had to do for transition year known as young entrepreneur

upper sand
#

thats actually freaking cool

sand goblet
#

it's not

upper sand
#

y??

sand goblet
#

the tl;dr is that my idea was a software project designed to help people with cerebral palsy to get their exercises in without painful stretch therapy

#

if I had gone to MIT and produced that project there, they would have owned it

upper sand
#

ye fair enough.

sand goblet
#

it was a business proposition, not a merit

#

haha

upper sand
#

but did u actually work on that project?

sand goblet
#

No, it's completely outside my expertise

#

I was kind of demotivated by the whole thing anyway when the person that won the competition had a project that was "kneepads for toddlers"

#

but, she was a girl, so

upper sand
#

doesnt sound that innovative

#

wym she was a girl ?

#

does it matter ?

sand goblet
#

It was just something that was passed down to me from people working with the YE team

#

they wanted a girl to win

#

there were only like 2-3 girls out of our group of 15-16

upper sand
#

ahh i c.

sand goblet
#

pretty sure that's where my disillusion in identity politics stems from, haha

upper sand
#

as long as u dont regret it

sand goblet
#

Anyway, someday I may yet end up attempting it

#

but I don't have the skillset

#

I mean, yeah, I regret it

#

it was a complete waste of time

#

I mean, the competition as a whole, not turning down the scholarship

upper sand
#

ohhhhh

sand goblet
#

I don't regret turning it down haha

upper sand
#

someone might already do it tho before u try to attempt it

sand goblet
#

and I mean come on, how could anyone expect me to cope

upper sand
#

i mean like u would learn some valuable stuff from it but still u gotta do what u want .

sand goblet
#

It wasn't the right place for me to be
