remote assistance? No worries, install teamviewer / anydesk on that laptop as well
Ok imma stop with that idea
What kind of 'cheap' are we talking about? Makes a big difference e.g 100 to 200 to 300
I don't have an exact range at the moment since I'm not the one paying for it
Amazon.com : Asus Google Nexus 7 16GB Tablet (Gen 2), 7 Inches (Renewed) : Computers & Accessories
It's going to be a Christmas thing for my grandfather, two sonos speakers
I was thinking the play:5 and the sonos one
play:5?
Ah, gotcha
Wow it's so odd seeing bezels that size nowadays
I never got into bluetooth speakers
Haha
ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
It's not Bluetooth
That's one of the things they expressly didn't want to add
They're WiFi speakers that play music on their own and are controlled by an app
Oh no
So you link your Spotify, speakers now play Spotify
Or your bandcamp, plex, soundcloud, whatever
I was just ranting to the SO about that the other day
How everything has an app now
Well I dunno how else you'd control these
Bluetooth is terrible for audio so I see why they did it
How is Bluetooth terrible for audio?
Plus you'll never have a call with your mom blasting over the powerful subwoofer
Bluetooth headphones do it just fine
I mean, I don't really think it's that big of a deal.
It is when you have a speaker setup as high quality as this
It's the same thing as vinyl technically sounds better than CDs, but you don't see vinyl being released as crazy as it was in the 80's.
And of course hassio integrates with it too
I just don't see a reason to add another app for a speaker.
It's less of a speaker and more of an actual media system
I mean, I don't see the reason to add another app for a lot of places.
My argument is that unless it's something that I'll use quite frequently, and isn't tracking me, then sure - I'll use it, no problem.
Like, you can group speakers together or pair mono speakers into stereo, for example
The One has alexa built in
But when you've got the Walmart/McDonald's/Burger King/AT&T/whatever else there is, app, and it's for 5% off this, or 10% off this, it doesn't matter.
Also don't you listen to music?
I mean, am I gonna throw $50 at Burger King to get 10% off ( $5! )? That's just silly.
Sure I do. I've got a pair of Bluetooth headphones too.
Headphones have nothing on a decent speaker setup though
They kind of suck for parties too
Haha
Did I just see caravan palace
Yup
Good music taste I approve
I don't see the reason for an app, honestly. If they're speakers, you're going to be listening to them in the same area you are.
Most speakers don't have a screen
So it just involves you grabbing your phone and switching the song ( Smart TV, PS4 Spotify integration, whatever else you use ), or physically walking up and changing the volume on whatever it is you're listening on.
Heck, you probably won't even need to do that. If you're using a smart tv or the like, grab the remote lol.
They won't need a screen. Most speakers should be connected to some kind of system that allows you to change the volume. ๐
That makes no sense
Why would you want an entirely separate system for that
Why would you want to go through the login process for all your accounts on a speaker?
Plus, to add to the reasoning, the S in IoT stands for security. Connecting speakers up to an app is just asking for trouble.
What?
Why would you want to go through the login process for all your devices on a speaker?
Accounts, my net died
Because it's a player?
I'm not home so I can't show you the full list but I'd like you to find an amplifier that can easily play from as many services as sonos can
I'm talking about a simple speaker setup. A basic system with a volume knob that connects to speakers.
Or even anything on your phone that can make a playlist of songs from more than one service
What the speakers are connected to doesn't matter.
That's the thing, is it's not a matter of "Look at how many services these speakers provide.", it's more a matter of shifting away from the speakers themselves and what's connected to them - like a smart tv, a PS4, or whatever else. You could also just buy some cheap bluetooth speakers ( Less than $50? ) and be done with it.
There's nothing connected directly to the sonos
Aside from the power
Or an ethernet if your setup suits that
Also, what's the price point on these things?
Not cheap
Yeah, another reason I'd suggest Bluetooth speakers ๐
Hey man, if I'm at a party I don't want to leave my phone lying around
If I'm going for a piss my phone is coming with me
In your case, so is the music
Haha
Eh?
Leave the Bluetooth speakers in the living room, and you can bring your phone with you.
Bluetooth reaches pretty far
Does your house have like paper walls or something
Well okay, I guess not everyone has concrete walls like we do
Also how do you solve the problem of playing on multiple speakers?
I've never needed to do that
Considering they'd be in different parts of the house, too, so you can't wire them in
they'd?
The multiple speakers
You couldn't even use two phones, Spotify mandates only one output at once
For a more professional setup, they'd be wired and have a central location for the music. But I'm also arguing for a $50 ( or cheaper ) Bluetooth speaker - while you're arguing for a speaker setup 10 times the price.
So I would hope a $499+ speaker setup was better.
Yep, a professional sounding setup with a central hub for the music
Low power consumption when not in use as well
They do have portable Bluetooth ones too, but eh
I just can't say that I've ever wanted to spend $499, let alone half that, for speakers. Always been headphones for me.
I don't really like headphones for music
I use them when I'm on voice chat
I have Bluetooth earphones and a Bluetooth speaker for when I'm out or at work
But I'd really rather use a proper speaker
Six drivers, six amplifiers, 3 tweeters and 3 woofers
They do other stuff as well like sound bars and solutions for in-wall speakers, or adapters for analogue sources
Right then, let's see if the guy sent me the DNS details..
"transfer away please"
Fine by me!
https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/10/30/amazon_prime_payment_page_ux_badness/
Amazon has been rapped by Britain's advertising watchdog after its baffling online payments page duped customers into signing up for an Prime subscription as they tried to pay for goods.
The trick, which falls squarely within the online category of "dark UX", was designed to confuse Amazon users into signing up for the ยฃ8/month (ยฃ96/year) service.
Seven people complained after being confronted with the confusing payment options โ and now Amazon has been ordered not to display the misleading boxes again.

@pale egret context managers call defined __enter__ and __exit__ methods when you enter the block and then exit it
for file objects the __exit__ is defined as .close()
Hmm the question is does __exit__ call close or it point to close directly ๐ค ๐
good question
nobody told me this we always used open() and close() at uni
__exit__ calls close, but iobase is written in c
__exit__?
server is at lvl 3 boost now we have vanity url yay hurrah yay
I mean.... We had that anyway since we're Discord Partners
ik i was joking lol
Oh der right
URL now with extra vanity
๐ถ You probably think this website's about you ๐ถ
can you create a statement without print statement
Pretty much every line in python is a statement, yes
I just finished Kingdom Hearts 3 and all I feel is empty inside
The last part of the game has left me unsatisfied and just.... numb
Honestly, before the shit ton of filler games, when it was just 1 and 2, yes
But there were just so many loose ends to tie up, and so many people we're supposed to care about
And the main characters of the series just took the back seat
And the ending battles were just.... unfulfilling
Don't get me wrong, the series is a blast to play. It just got a severe case of Square-Enix overly convoluted story syndrome
And KH3's game mechanics are the cleanest and most satisfying of the whole series. But jesus.. The ending just fell flat on its face for me
Yeah, if an ending is garbage - there's no reason to play the game.
Eh that's debatable
It's like Borderlands 2 and how ||it ended with a "THERE'S GONNA BE ANOTHER GAME!". Made me not care for the series at all, and haven't touched it since.||
I've played some fantastic games with endings that just eh
The new God of War for example
I never cared for the GoW series, either.
Oh it's nothing like the old ones
It's an adventure, it's great
The ending is just sort of weak. Not discouraging like KH3's was for me, but just kind of "oh cool"
But that whole game was worth it
I've seen what the Switch has to offer, but outside of LoZ: BoTW, there's nothing I really care for.
A game has to be amazing for me to really care about it
So long as there's enough fun that I feel like I got my money's worth, I'm good.
For example, the re-done version of Link's Awakening looks like Link is looking straight into your soul, and the aesthetic is all wrong.
I'll agree with you there. I played the crap out of that game when I was a kid. But it just looks.... wrong with the style they chose
I was so aggitated by that game too. ||IT WAS ALL A DREAM. I WAS DEVASTATED||
||But then again, it's literally called Link's Awakening.||
I think I was more bothered by "So wait, he's just sitting on a plank? He's going to get eaten by a shark, isn't he."
I feel like I enjoyed the whole package of Awakening more, but I certainly still loved the Oracles
Link To The Past will always be my favorite
Link Between Worlds was a solid homage
Link Between Worlds was trash poorly done, and the ending ||was lackluster and rushed.||
What parts were poorly done in your eyes?
Well, the Tower of Hera being a colloseum is great, unless you realize what it is fairly far in the game and the cash is useless because you've gotten the money in other ways.
The renting system isn't that great, as you can rent things you don't even need yet
It was good for paying off the rest of the items
And yeah, the renting was a little dumb, but I feel like they finally took a chance with something after so long of serving the same formula to us
The octorok children was poorly setup, and had you running around looking for 100 useless things for upgrades you should have gotten another way.
I'm fine with them trying a few new things and some of them not being overly great
I enjoyed they brought back the assistant on the broom, but she didn't really do anything.
Did she have to?
The 2d ones have always been about the adventure and not as much the characters
You find out ||she's a sage||, and was a simple replacement for the bird. You also didn't get the ability to run into her like in older games she was introduced in, which would have been a great way to get upgrades to some of your items.
Just seemed rushed, and more like Minish Cap.
I feel the opposite. There felt like there was a lot of love and detail that went into it
But then again, I'm the type of person that thinks Ocarina of Time was trash and was only a 3D version of Link To The Past.

I don't think so. Skyward Sword, Wind Waker, Breath of The Wild..?

finally weekend
and yes, it is Thursday, but we have a bank Holiday tomorrow
Because it's All Saint's
we do not have one for all saint's day
I think the term well established workers rights fits more than christian background
we don't have one either
hm, it might be more specific to catholic countries
catholic country here
because the US does not have a lot of banking holidays for christian events
interesting
well bisk and I aren't in the US either
couldn't make up their fucking mind country here
๐
these are our bank holidays this year
what country?
Ireland
ah an Irish lad
nope, I'm English
he's a traitor
who's the real traitor here
For Germany
that is a ridiculous amount of holidays
Some are regional only, like the next one on 20th Nov.
that is Saxony only
Where I live, it is based on the town you live in
If it is protestant, it is a bank holiday
BUt most of Bavaria is catholic, so I am fucked
that's a silly policy imo
I mean if your religion mandates worship days here then you can legally take them
why not just let people do that
Because Germans need to regulate everything
and in france the government outright decides what days you work
i'm fine with everybody having holidays for everybody's religions, though government are usually not too much on board with the idea ๐
i'm pissed off the scottish / irish get extra bank holidays
it's like... grrrr
curse them
well clearly you're in the wrong country aren't you

you're a traitor
a traitor to yourself
We also have 28 days regular holiday
and if you become sick in your holiday, you get the days back
I thinnk I better run now
i'm pissed off the scottish / irish get extra bank holidays labour policy is for another bank holiday
as if national policy really means much at the moment
Did somebody say Bavarian Catholic holidays like the one tomorrow are the best thing ever

ok, big question time:
say there's something you like. Makes you go "woah, dass cool!
"
BUT you can't do it. You've tried, and it just doesn't work.
What do? It's wise to give up, since no matter how effort you put in it'll never work out?
nah
well, for one thing, there's no way for you to know that it'll never work out
So that point is moot
well, I've tried both drawing and playing the keyboard
wrong use of moot there
Unless you're talking about something like doing magic.
didn't work out
Drawing I try on and off periodically, getting hella discouraged when I can't do something basic
they're built upon skills that 100% can be learned
like, say, shading a cube.
piano I've tried for a month but I don't have the finger dexterity or the hand independence to do the exercises
@gentle moss "of little or no practical value, meaning, or relevance; purely academic"
if I play just with the right hand it can be half decent, but anything more is hell no for me
Learning how to do piano and getting the finger dexterity and strength can take years
Don't get discouraged
@lime gazelle Of course those things can be learned. I'd argue that both of those things is something that literally anybody can learn with sufficient practice.
yup
I've tried, with guitar too
i have been trying to teach myself piano a bit more over the last 2 years
still shit but better
I know you've tried, but that's irrelevant to whether you're able to learn it or not.
did you have any problems with your left hand bisk?
I mean, I can try to run my code and get a syntax error. That doesn't prove that my code will never ever run.
I know what you mena
it's just hella discouraging
Take every small step forward as a victory
i have problems having independence between my two hands
but last year i couldn't do a walking bass line with some chords on top and now i kind of can
with a lot of effort
I can't even play solo left
I have a hard time keeping my hands and my feet in sync
I can't do a drum kit because of it
Like I've heard about the approach "practice both hands as if they're two different pieces"
but the left just won't budge
Start it really slow
practice
Like half speed
@plucky ridge
drums are v cool!
Then slowly build it up
And honestly I can't really say much about this, I played clarinet back in high school
Did well enough though. Was usually first or second chair
But it was a very small band program
noice
Sometimes I miss it, or at least the reeds
You also don't need to become the world's greatest clarinet player for it to be worth your while.
Yep
a stupid question then: why do something, when nobody knows you're doing it?
So long as you're enjoying yourself, that's really all that matters
Unless you're Naruto Uzumaki.
Because you like doing it
I'm always under the impression that skills need to be shown
hah, no
Eh, not really true at all
@lime gazelle Because it's fun.
i kept being good at bass to myself for ages
I'm great at carrying all the groceries into the house in one go
But that's all for me
i didn't even let it get out intentionally. went to do a job fixing someone's PC and they had a bass rig so i had a little jam
if something is fun, that's immediately sufficient justification for doing it, no matter the context,
turns out he was a bassist for a band or something and started spreading positive shit about me
Depends
Yes, sometimes that's true.
But yeah, it can be discouraging
That doesn't mean you need to do it in front of people.
But when you get over that hump it becomes so satisfying
Coding is a perfect example
I'm good at programming, and I get immense satisfaction from doing projects by myself at home, that never see the light of day.
I haven't touched code in ages!
When you break through and understand a concept or apply something you learned, it's awesome
there's so much stuff I've left to rot, really..
I've got tons of projects I never showed anybody.
Or heck, getting really good at video games (single player ones)
But building them was still super fun.
Engaging with a community and showing off your skills can be fun too, though.
Like
It's just not a necessity.
My reasoning is: if I'm good at something, I'll show it, and people will like it
I want people to like what I do, I think
That's an aspect of it.
That's essentially what we do here as helpers and what not. But a lot of us also just love to code
It's not everything, but it's one side of learning.
In the end, it should still be for you
^
Other people come and go, are fickle with what they like or don't like, etc.
You're the constant in the situation. Why do something if you hate it?
Because I don't know what I like?
(Unless it's homework, stay in school kids)
Then you try all kinds of things. Even when you're discouraged with something like playing piano, if you still feel that satisfaction, you'll know you want to keep going
Truly, I'd rather stay in bed and watch youtube/read mangas than do anything productive
I get frustrated with computers all the time, but they're my absolute passion
@lime gazelle https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delayed_gratification
Delayed gratification, or deferred gratification, describes the process that the subject undergoes when the subject resists the temptation of an immediate reward in preference for a later reward. Generally, delayed gratification is associated with resisting a smaller but more...
ยฌ_ยฌ
i was about to write something that would've totally meshed with that
but really not appropriate
Here staying in bed and reading manga is "immediate gratification", and learning to play the guitar is "delayed gratification".
the reason I ask is because fighting the temptation of immediate gratification is something I had more trouble with when I was younger
it's not like I like reading mangas/watching YT videos either.
There might also be another part to that.
And valuing and investing in delayed gratification is something that became easier as I grew older
There's a possibility you might also just have depression. Not finding enjoyment in things you used to enjoy is one of the potential symptoms, and one I've struggled with for years
I have tons of YT playlist that I've never finished to watch, because I lost interest/forgot about them
even stuff I enjoy, emulators and stuff, I'm not working on any of it.
This is something that everyone struggles with, to different degrees
It might be worth talking to a doc about, if you feel it's interfering with your life
And yeah, true
eh I'm going to a therapist, I've been going to docs for almost all my life
I've experienced this constantly throughout my life
from 6 to 18 and now for a year
Is this something you've brought up with them?
And I apologize if these questions are too prying
that I don't enjoy anything? I don't remember if I did
I just think it's worth mentioning to someone like that, especially if you already have the resource at hand, you know?
yeah
Could help you get the ball rolling in the right direction
I felt like art/music would pull me out, you know?
Like, it would be a nice break to the monotony of my work/school lif
There probably is no silver bullet that will fix your problems automatically, but trying to find a hobby or passion is a good idea
@lime gazelle I can't give you real advice on what to or why you are like that but for many years I was in your situation
Don't get discouraged if the first thing you try doesn't resonate with you immediately
in fact, until I turned 25, and I didn't realize about it
it's not like it doesn't resonate. Music and art are cool, I feel like it'd be cool to be able to do that.
Whip out a sketchbook and draw just for the fun of it, would be v peaceful
Maybe try managing your expectations, also
Don't expect to get amazing results in short order
that, I certainly don't
Set small goals
idk
don't leave it to luck
but it took me even a lot longer than that to find a passion
Speaking of art
I liked fighting!
@lime gazelle There was a talk here at PyCon Sweden about Processing.py.
that, I feel, was a thing I really liked
only this year I started with programming which is something I've always loved
Did you try making procedural art?
but I didn't because I didn't feel like it
not at all!
It seems pretty approachable
hm
I have a book about algorithms
I wanted to do something like that, but never got around to actually do it
The guy made some super cool stuff very quickly and easily'
generative art is fun
sounds interesting!
I didn't know there was a Processing.py
It compiles Python to Java, as I understand it
or is. it p5py?
honestly I wanna go back to fighting
and well, maybe that will give me the necessary uh...jerk to progress with stuff
Nope, just street fighting
martial arts ๐
HADUKEN
well, thanks for the suggestion @wooden silo I'll read some tutorials on processing
Manu, that is amazing
lmao the reaction?
https://miro.medium.com/max/8000/1*zMSR6lwGpWySHyxC5kagFA.jpeg
this looks hella nice!
Yeah
Yeah, it's great for that kind of stuff
As I saw the arrows showing up I just started cracking up
Don't work too hard
@lime gazelle https://www.openprocessing.org/browse/#
Browse Sketches - OpenProcessing
Here's tons of examples of what you can do with it
And you can create your own sketches on there apparently
And you can see the code for all those sketches
It's worth a shot
Also, even if you don't manage to stick to it, it's always ok to forgive yourself for that, and just get back on the horse and try again
Not sticking to a commitment is not something to beat yourself up about
There are no awards for how many commitments you stick to or not. The only thing that matters is how you move forward.
If you fail, just put it behind you and try again. Or try something else.
I feel like there is something that would scratch all my itches: gamedev
but then again, same thing: why make a game that nobody will play?
For yourself?
Also, did you think Notch thought Minecraft would take off?
And again, you can't know whether others will play it or not
You definitely can't know that nobody will ever play any game you will ever make
unless it's a metal gear pachinko machine
idk what I want to doo
you can be sure no one would want to play that
Every gamedev makes tons of games that nobody plays before they make the first one that others do play
gamedev would just be a way to roll art, music and coding all into one
Yeah, so what's wrong with that?
Gotta learn somehow
You don't need to know anything before you start
This seems like good motivation
You could make procedural art with an audio component too
Aren't you happy you were born into a universe with all of this inside it?
kind of
when I have too many things I start to not be consistent and jump around
and eventually (in a week or so) forget about the stuff I was doing.
That's why I can't play MMO's. My attention span for games is about 2 weeks or so
Python is probably the thing I've stuck with the longest
ouch
Womp womp
Oh the docs looks so much better like this ๐
something doesn't seem right about this..
Hmmm
How's that download
Finished
But my raspberry is connected to my screen atm
I just wait for the install to finish, install an SSH server and I'm good to go
Aight
I wonder if anyone else here played this when they were a kid

i think it was something less rice cookery than that
like just measure shit right and don't fuck it up
good advice
Fair
And make sure you wash the crap out of your rice
Gives it a much fresher flavor
less starchy something or whatever too
i didn't realise you could fuck up rice
other than just making an ungodly amount of it
like enough to feed an africa and half amount
@gentle moss Sentient trash cans was Rocky Rodent
Errr, @vapid bluff *
THATS RIGHT
Which was a pretty great game, I gotta say
Starred Rocky Rodent and this restraunt owner's daughter was kidnapped by the mob
now i can finally sleep again at night
So you gotta rescue his daughter and he'll let you eat everything you want
It's about as good as you can expect from an SNES game lol
super mario rpg tho
It's not that great looking back and playing it again though.
blasphemy!
What has aged well was Final Fantasy 3 ( for the SNES in the US ) / Final Fantasy 6 for the PS1 ( released with Final Fantasy Anthology )
Kefka.
such a great game
This guy gets it
Honestly a lot of the SNES games aged extremely well
That was kind of the prime age of 2D games
though i think the composer was a little depressed at the office when composing the very last song
before 'THE END'
Never thought of it that way, but yeah, I could see it
the reason why i bring it up is bc the song made me kinda sad as a kid
I just recently saw Super Mario RPG played through, and it's just.. eh.
FF3 ( SNES ) / FF6 ( PS1 ) is vastly better
The random dragons you stumble across, the characters you can miss getting
It's pretty damn great for an SNES game
||That, and the fact Shadow is a woman which is something you learn by pieces of story you can miss entirely.||
Well, we were talking about specifically Super Mario RPG for the SNES
But yeah, I understand you mean.
no i know. but i still look at super mario rpg w/ a similar mindset
Seven Stars? It definitely aged poorly. I would say that its best points would be the music and humour, with partial marks for the secrets and some decent puzzles. Otherwise, structurally, there's not much there.
I am hard-pressed to think of any other game where mario can canonically be smooched by bowser AND a weird hairy guy
weird hairy guy - Excuse you, his name is Booster

Geno/Mallow were great though
Axem Rangers
Booster the 7th.

Yeah, there were so many things we haven't seen in anything else
Booster and his kidnapping, such a weird story.
all this badmouthing of our lord and saviour super mario rpg
smh
may your cartridges be always dusty
๐
Everything's digital, grandpa.
The switch is decent though
I just went on holiday and took it with me
I played goose game and katamari damacy
@rough sapphire you forgot the switch exists! That's the only console that I think it is worth to have
patch ALL THE CHROMES

they fixed the logo?
It was broken?

it was transparent
yesterday

yes the icon is fixed
we're humans and need to know we matter to others in any way
so it's okay to want attention, too
I'm so tired
Ah, @vestal briar, I thought your avatar looked familiar...
I'm just used to clicking my name on a message
What is Ipython
An interactive shell, much like the REPL you get when running python in the terminal
it's a python shell
its basically a python shell that looks cool
and is also a lot nicer to use (but also sometimes a little slow, at least for me)
the startup time is very noticeable
now that you bring up pip uninstall, just realised how annoying it is that there's no autoremove
you install one thing with 50 deps and now everything's a mess
lol
Virtualenvs
yeah but then I have to reinstall everything and e.g. stuff like ipython i'd want systemwide anyway
someone on one of the servers i'm on mentioned that there's a site that can do python exercises for you, and/or help you solve them. but i don't remember which server it was. was it this one?
nope.
as in we don't help people with graded coursework, or provide code willy nilly
we will, however, help you if you have a question or are stuck on a solution to a problem
we're here to guide and teach, not to solve
i understand that. it was a link to something outside of discord, or servers like these. i just wish i remembered who or which server it was
i have the memory of a chimp sometimes
what are the advantages that MongoDB is seen as having, correctly or incorrectly, vs a traditional SQL db?
it's seen as fast and easy to use
afaik
and scalable horizontally also
2ย of these things are true, it's at the cost of security and reliability, but it's true
i don't understand how one can find the query language easy to use compared to sql though
sql needs to be learned, true, you can't just type english words and hope for it to work, but mongo is ugly and pretty much nonsensical for any complex need, using json to express queries is just, oof
scalable horizontally = easy to make it support a lot of users?
when you get too many of whatever data to fit on a server or to query efficiently, you can add new servers and don't need to adapt your code
or not much
ah - sure
discord published a blog about how they used mongo in the beggining, and it was suitable for a lot of users, though at some point it wasn't enough anymore
I was speaking to a developer today who's company is about to adopt it
but it is only for relatively small enterprise stuff
which seemed crazy to me, but I didn't want to argue with the guy
well, it might suit them, although i would certainly side with you, it's probably not worth your time arguing
mongo has the same "issue" as php imho, it's easy to get started, too easy, and the pain comes later
Yeah. That was my previous understanding, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything about it that was too obvious
the thing with being document based, is that you don't have to think about the details of your db, it's really easy at first, so much freedom, but then you understand that you can't make any assumption about the consistency of your data
and you don't feel free at all anymore
I've got an IP security camera I'm trying to setup. I was able to connect to it locally, but couldn't when on a subnet. Not knowing much about networking, I set the subnet mask to 240.0.0.0, not realizing that it conflicted with its static ip 10.1.10.73.
Now I can't event connect locally to change it back. How screwed am I?
NOW YOU HAVE FUCKED UP!!!! Subscribe and Follow @NovaSpec
You might need to factory reset it
Oof manual says there's no physical reset button

Oh well it was only $36
Lesson learned
Hello does anyone know a good C# Discord?
G stands for generalization
Told you @sand goblet ๐ grats to you too ๐
@solid pollen Congratulations! I gotta say, I'm impressed by your enthusiasm. Keep up the good work.
Thanks!
Yes, @sand goblet and @solid pollen, congrats to both of you!
\o/ thanks
@barren root I'd get a machine, and a crossover cable, or hub. Set the machine to the same subnet, and a close but not the same IP to the camera. You may be able to connect to it then.
(apologies for necro'ing the issue)
Ahh earworm
ELO I think
I remember the run-up to the chours and it sounds like a music box
Then exclaims words that sort of sound like "Mother pharaohhhh"
Any more Lyrics?
Something like "you're the only one alone, do you feel like you should've known about the little pharaohhhh"
Rift for music box is AABCDEF
@vestal briar, it looks like you tried to attach a file type we don't allow. Feel free to ask in #community-meta if you think this is a mistake.
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.
lol
it's so not that
have you tried humming the tune into Shazam
?
not much go on there
Yeah
This is annoying
I feel like it's ELO but it doesn't feel like it would fit in
Gone through everything I have on ELO so I can say that it's probably not them. Maybe the who?
๐
procrastination at its finest
I have an essay due
I have a total of 0 words down
same
except I actually have alot down
no im not done
not only that
I'm stumped on my code
I have a 504 so I get extra time
but not only that
#help-coconut is my issue.
the quarter ends in 12 hours
yikes
and not only that
my thing is due in a few hours
im actually already late by 2 weeks
bruh bomb
yeah thats me
the funny thing is
its so easy to bs but I just dont do a thing
@rough sapphire this kind of thinking won't help you get started. If you want to do the thing, and you certainly are capable of doing so, stop overthinking it, or defaulting on it (thinking it's too late and you won't do it), just put aside distractions, and think of something even more important to work on, so working on the first thing is actualy procrastinating the second.
so tomorrow is payday
I've started taking an interest in physical pentesting and related
so I figured I'd order some picks and practise locks and have a go at 'em
am I? haha
physical pentesting is all about getting into places you're not supposed to be able to
That's worst
Oh I know, just the phrase is so dorky. Just say lockpicking
I mean, it's not all lockpicking
that's just the aspect I've taken a direct interest in
since it's really interesting
although having watched a good amount of physical pentesting stuff recently it strikes me that there are probably a lot of problems at work that could do with rectifying
It has to have been called something else before that though
That remind me of that company that make security valve for nuclear centrals, that do daily sever backup and keep them in an unlocked vault
Pen testing just makes me think of having a crap ton of like ballpoint pens or biros and just writing a lot to see which ones work the best
So I can never take it seriously
haha
I agree
Now I just see gdude with dozen of pens in hands and just trying to test them
I can think of four ways to get through it unauthorised
Four?
yep
you could use an under-door tool, go over the door, use a hooked knife or something to pull the latch, or just pick the lock
there's probably more that I'm forgetting
at least the hinge is on the inside
yeah, the latch has no security pins
it'd be ezpz
Security pins are the pins that are in every direction to make the lock picking more difficult?
No, with a latch, usually there's also a security pin
When the door is closed, the pin is pushed into the lock, so you can't just push the latch open, you have to actually use the key
this latch does not have one
this is the only office in the building
so it has basically everything in it
including two filing cabinets with extremely cheap locks
but I'm not gonna bitch about it until I can prove it
oh there's also a wooden board with hooks for every other key in the building
oh, I thought of another one
it's a wooden door in a wooden frame
you could place something in the doorway to widen the frame with enough force and then the latch wouldn't even matter
now if I was red-teaming I'd realise that basically nobody would do this to a community sports club
but it's still interesting to think about
You work in a sport club?
Your website can contain sensitive information at least or it is just an average website?
it's planned to
they want to sell merch and do expenses submissions and room bookings and stuff
the current site is at https://spagaa.com and it's a shitty wordpress site on a cheap host
so that ain't happening
I bet you can't even load it
No it isn't :p
unusual
You host it on heroku or something? :D
It's on this host called siteground
they do specialised wordpress hosting for basically no money
but the database is so fucking slow that the site is down half the time
I'd show you the new one but it's not ready yet
that one is being built on squarespace
It'll look more like this though
still needs work but it'll get there
How do you take screenshot that long??
It looks way more modern than the current one haha
It looks more like this on desktop
it's been a fun project
There isn't much left to do now
There is one thing that is triggering me since I started contributing for pydis projects..
ctrl+shift+r?
I'm on phone
Ooooh
I cleared the cache
And it is back!!
@sand goblet so yeah now it is linting
g went full g
