it's more like being in the room with each other, ya know?
maybe it's me being old.
"hey man, this is great, check it out and get back to me"
vs
"hey, lets listen to this together"
oh ok i totally get it now
this copyright section is the utter bitch
the zoomed in spinning turntable perfectly supplement's the dude's voice in making me sleep
hah
but it's a super interesting video in content
i never realized how widespread that drum loop was
yah, could just be an audio track but, you know, youtube
oh yeah
when you know it
and you've messed it with yourself
you KNOW it
that snare in particular
i've chopped drums from some tracks for mine own before
IT'S LIKE FIRE KAY WIZARD
YOU CANNOT STOP IT
END OF RECORDING
:D
you will never not notice that drum beat again
๐
the history of house music is way more interesting
i'm sorry, but also not.
wtf? no.
a 6 second drum beat spawned an entire fucking genre or 5
from a B-side
in the 70's
or was it 60's?
6 seconds of tape and one drummer made a whole world of music
i lack the energy or enthusiasm to debate this so... ok
that's fair.
music was my job so, i was sorta required to know it?
amen break, hands down, most influential 6 seconds of music in history
ill be getting some sleep now, thanks for the conversation and thanks for showing me great music
no problem
it's been a pleasure
if you ever need a hand with audio based weird stuff give me a hit up

Where is everyone?
I'm just catching up. Yeah, the Amen break is pretty damn important. Though not my fav. That belongs to Michael Viner's Incredible Bongo Band. And in a funny twist of fate, I've heard samples of that summation used in a track.
@shell blade forgot that this was my favorite RTJ that I had come across when you posted em before. Mainly bc...DJ Shadow.

Yeah. Them old dudes got a knack for speedy lip syncing
is this a morning funny for my work day :3
oh no it just seems like some sort of reasonableness that i wish our customers would listen to us about
@sand goblet (well actually, I'm too literal. [2] is too metaphorical and has never really said anything that actually makes any sense at all. :P)
Well, I guess that's expected :P
Listen to the official audio for "Wu Tang Forever" by Logic ft. Wu-Tang Clan Featuring Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, RZA, Method Man, Inspectah Deck, Cappadonna...
@pine vector have you heard this
@shell blade i have not. i'm digging it. though Logic seems a little out of place, but that's probably bc i'm used to his style...not him in Wu's more raw style.
Mef is still my favorite Wu...
i wish odb was in it too ๐
it's super interesting how all the older rappers are coming back and totally saying fuck mumble rap this is how it's done lol
i've been waiting for the Ca$h Money phase to end for like, what...20 years?
i'm from the south, but what "the dirty south" did to mainstream hip hop is a damn travesty.
So.. we still don't know if light is particles or waves?
it's both
Ahh ambiguas
^ that's what i thought the current thinking was...
i mean, they still can't explain why light travels at an infinitely constant speed, right?
Light is not the fastest thing
Currently it is
But the universe might expand faster than it in a couple trillion years
Not sure the timeframe
what is the rate that the universe expands at?
It's not constant
Also could we theoretically get out of the observable universe with a wormhole?
would that then become observable?
Better question: What does observable mean?
Ah it's just what earth can possibly see atm
Due to speed of light etc
Isn't it weird to think that if we had like tons of empires all around the galaxy and one revolted, we wouldn't here of it until like 1000 years after they all died
maybe unless we had like a warp technology like stark trek
Not possible unless portable wormholes
And we would have to set it up at the first and second point?
im not even sure the "physics" behind the stark trek warp
Yeah
@shell blade given by Hubble's constant
It's roughly 70 km/s/MPc give or take 5
Universe expanding isn't becoming faster than light, universe isn't a "thing"
Light or massless particles in general are the fastest things possible
@vestal briar Wormholes barely exist theoretically
We don't know how to make one or how they would work
That's what they say about the sphagetti monstor :(
no it's turtles all the way down sorry
The spaghetti monster was a theoretical solution to the Einstein field equations that required negative energy?
Also indeed, all particles behave both as waves and particles because they are particles whose behaviour is defined by a complex wave function which follows Schrodinger's equation
You as a whole behave like a wave with a very very very small wavelength
you're all wrong.
all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.
Time is an illusion, lunch time doubly so
:D
Or just a simulation
i believe in holistic devops @proper dune
Elaborate on holistic DevOps
Whitch in time goes faster every level
ok no we are all in a simulation
It makes sense that we havn't seen aliens but it also doesnt kinda
well basically what ever you happen to bump into and happens to work becomes the solution and will, eventually, work with every other solution
to the point of a perfect interconnectedness of systems
It's kinda short bands of technilogical assendancy
Screw people who insist aliens must exist because it is probable and use drake's equation as an argument
In 1000 years we wont really have a program for detecting radio waves
drake made an equation?
yeah, mallards law
Drake is einstiens rap rebirth
drakes equation is just some fuckery but i mean
given the vastness of the universe and all the stuff in it there's probably something we'd go "oh look, that's life"
or some shit we'd look at and go "oh look, that's just a bunch of rocks"
because we haven't got a fucking clue
Earth would be very unstable if we found intelligent lifeforms
Current religions are stupid in this circumstance
probably a good thing in the end
We would probably nuke ourselves due to politics
Earth doesn't give a shit about you
"I want to be in contact first!"
It's a dumb argument. We don't know that it's any more likely that there's more life than that there's not
Or we just forget about them becasuse they are huge beings and time goes slower
space whales
Mm
What if jesus was some massive whale that moved really fast
It's been like 2 mins for him
2000 years for us
Having an equation and that argument has given a whole bunch of people who couldn't science themselves out of a paper bag the confidence to fully believe in that one argument
Science communication books for laymen have literally some of the worst science barring science fiction
But I thought my argument was a snowflake :(
your argument has been done
i do like silly sci-fi
I love SciFi

that's where i went with space whales
Yeah
That was a sad episode
I thought that was lovecraft for the longest time
you seen the early ones though?
Only seen nuwho :C
well if there is a infinite number of parallel universes I'm sure at least one of those universes has aliens in it soo also it does seem unlikely that universe being infinite doesn't have at least some other intelligent lifeforms.
Tom Baker was classic. I had a physics teacher in HS whose speciality was astrophysics and he dressed up as Tom Baker on trivia night

you know why his scarf is that long?
one of the people involved with production gave his mum or gran a bunch of wool in different colours

and she used ALL THE WOOL

Why
programmer logic i guess
Lmao
:D
"make a scarf out of all this wool? seems mad but i guess he works in tv....."
i find that story pretty funny

and they use ALL the components and give you something that fits the description

can you get a ram from one laptop and insert it into other laptop just like in pc? Ping me :3
highly depends on the laptop and the RAM
Well some manufacturers for example solder RAM into their machines so it might be hard to remove it and/or put it into the other one etc
really laptop dependent
ah
lots of variables
type of ram, speed of ram, voltage ram runs at, etc, etc
as nix said, the above is not uncommon, but at least sony has provide room for expansion
you'd have to look up the specific specs if that's the case
have to make sure the ram is the same type too
iirc back in the old days there were more different standards for laptop ram than desktop
the bootcamp was awesome. 20 weeks all online
codingdojo.com if you're interested, but they raised their prices recently.... probably still worth it, though
@wicked talon
did they help you build a portfolio and stuff?
Damn that 94% land a job in 180 days stat is strong
yep, there is a career consultant that helped me revamp my resume, they hold regular events with prospective employers, although that helps me less than the in person bootcamps because they are typically in seattle or chicago or san jose or something of the sort
oh yeah, they teach you everything you need to know to land a jr developer job easily.
thats pretty cool
I can build a website in flask, django and .NET, which I couldn't do before, and I've got a solid foundation of javascript, jqery and sql/MySQL.
My javascript is definitely lacking
yeah, same. The instructor is actually doing me a solid and opening the MEAN track that they offer for free because I waited too long to try to switch from C# lol
so I get access to that course, minus the structure of being on a timeline, and I've got access to every course I've taken until october (11 months from when I started the course)
but yeah, totally worth it and all that lol

Lemon
U2 has a good song called lemon
that's a lie
that U2 has a song called lemon, or that its good?
U2 never had a good song
idk i liked the legend of joey ramone song
i just watched the most depressing ending to a WRC rally i've ever seen
singstar on the PS4 has no good songs sadly
just dance > singstar
guy 11 sec in the lead, new guy, doing so good, final stage....
yeah but it had sick songs
puncture
I want to sing
:(
what r u waching bisk?
WRC
i finished watching it about half an hour ago and i still can't think how unfortunate it was for the fella
World Recreational Chairs
:P
It's like musical chairs, but they're motorized
haha
World Rotational Championships
where you have to spin around in a circle at as many RPM as possible
different classes
from free standing
to swivel chair
to roundabout
they're different classes
ohh
they're not supposed to compete against each other
hmm
but i bet you some of the best free standing rotationists could out rotate some of the lower level swivel class
especially on ice stages
Nobody likes ice stages man
horse racing? ice stages.
football's ice stage is just ice hockey
no but with real football
it'd be great because if they did a dive
they'd go on forever
do you feel relaxed?
do i feel relaxed? not really
oh lol
i just watched a deserving driver get delivered a crushing blow by a small stone in the middle of the road
so... like did the stone break something?
puncture
tyre delaminated entirely so he was driving on the rim for like 1/2 of the stage
but he'd spent the whole weekend pretty much in the lead
pure damned luck
again, final stage too
ohhhhhhhhhhhh
i thought u meant u randomly saw a guy on the road that u thought was deserving of a puncture get a carpuncture
no, i'm talking about a young upstart rally driver about to win 1st place and getting his ass handed to him by a tiny pointed bit of stone
what place did he come?
3rd.
ok i mean it couldve been worse
he lost like 1 minute of time and still came third
so that's good
but should've been an easy win
shit how far in the lead was he?!
i wonder if the FIA will ever allow those non-pneumatic, noisy ass wheel/tire combos...
FIA?
Federation International Autosports or whatever it is in french
ohh
FIFA for cars.
ยฌ_ยฌ
having run flat tyres would be interesting sommer
since they do run flat, just not as quickly
but i guess you're talking about those weird new ones?
rally would be interesting with these...
https://wonderfulengineering.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Michelin-Airless-Tires3.jpg
yeah
considering how hard they drive those cars
there'd be another way to break them
although, i'm not sure how the lateral movement...yeah, same thought. brainshare? ๐
M-Sport Ford World Rally Team - Elfyn Evans / Scott Martin in action on Day 2 - will they secure a podium position on Sunday? โบ Sign up to WRC+ ALL LIVE and ...
this isn't the stage he got the puncture, but god damn they're fast
topping out at 100 - 110mph in places on those roads
i do like seeing new technology in motorsport.
most of our car technology starts in it
i always thought it'd be cool to do something like F1 where you're given a specific energy allowance rather than fuel allowance
can use what ever you like
i wish Subaru would start their WRC division again... i also wish the FIA hadn't pushed them out with the rule changes.
Hyundai have been doing really well
despite being a new comer
and Toyota are back in
all Subaru would have to do is manufacture a 1.6L version of a car
i haven't kept up lately. and the Veloster still quals? i didn't think they're still producing them, though i know the qual years lag the current year.
ikd about that
and no, it's the i20
it'd be interesting to see a Group B again but it'd still be just as lethal
and tbh Subaru kind of made themselves the outlier by not producing smaller capacity cars?
yeah...i love watching clips of the Group B glory days.
well, true. but F1 was the same back then.
true enough
the current WRC cars are as fast if not faster than the Group B's thanks to technology though
suspension+aero+mech gear box.... no need for all the flicking.
but imagine dumping a 600hp superturbo engine in one
you'd end up with pretty much gymkhana cars on a rally stage
yeah. there's always Rally America. but...didn't that shut down like a year or two ago? i can't remember.
only thing i watch American is Pike's Peak really
haven't watched one since they asphalted. i mean, i understand the why of it. but its just not the same.
ohh fun did you have a good time?
Yeah it was dope
Just..full day of flying both ways
Then over 100k people in a massive building

prolly a good 45 active posters on the subreddit
one day an announcement is made
feweh was banned from reddit after it was revealed he had 20 alt accounts
20 of the 45 active posters were just feweh on a different account
there were threads where he argued with his own alt accounts
there were threads where he trashed his other alt accounts and had a flame war with his alt accounts
and he gave all of his alts their own personality
they all posted in different subreddits

#RasbianNeedsToHavePipPreinstalled
you can always create your own distro
Ahhhhhh it is so slow..
also, is meant to be as lightweight as possible and then the end user configures everything
( python3 -m pip install -U discord.py[voice] ) Is taking forever.
what rpi are you using?
zero w
there is your reason lol
ya
My experience with the 0w is that everything takes a really long time.
It took hours to compile node.
oh...
if you have a normal rpi (like a 3b or 3b+) use that to configure raspbian via ethernet
then, move the sd card to the pi zero w
r/prorevenge
From when I turn it on, to when the application is loaded, takes about 2 minutes lol.
10/10 sub
yeah the zero is intentionally low-powered
it's designed to run software that has already been written
rather than being developed on directly
that
Also to be portable on battery power
it is done.
i feel that the pi and pi zero is better for ssh only
also are you using a gui or just the command line
ya thats how i use it.
You don't run a desktop on it no.
there are human beings out there that run gui's on the pi zero
doesn't make it a good idea
(scp is used to trasfer files right?)
You can barely use the mouse.
I like to use sshfs and just use it like a normal filesystem.
i wonder if is reliable to use the rpi b series as a cheap fileserver
At usb2.0 speeds.
I use a b2 for a samba share
(My friend uses bluetooth)
i mean, a cache for debian/ubuntu packages
0w is fine for a lot of things
i'm usually running vmware for testing stuff on debian or ubuntu, and downloading the same set of packages (like build-essentials) on the different vms makes it a pain in the ass (my local mirror is bad)
so i was thinking on using the rpi 3/3b as a package mirror
Honestly, pi as a platform is pretty capable
I run an entire homeassistant stack on a 3+
yeah, is pretty capable
the only problem is the supported software out of the box
you are always going to build something during the initial setup
I run a smartmirror on it.
well, I wouldn't use raspbian anyway
the one I'm using for a samba share is running alarmpi, which is Arch for ARM on the pi
That's home assistant
i have never tried arch
my home assistant install is running on a pi dedicated to it, that pi runs HassOS
that screenshot is the web interface for it
does it say who is home?
You can make it do that, yeah
both of our GPS tracker apps aren't running, I notice
mine tells me how much storage is left on my pi
the last time that i tried to run home assistant was on windows server 2016
a pain in the ass i might add, some things were out of sync like the plex integration
yes, you really should be using it on HassOS
HassOS only supports rpis + some other boards, correct?
It supports a lot of stuff
The whole point of it is that you're dedicating a machine to hassio, and it will manage the entire machine for you
i only see instructions for this dudes
(maybe looking in the wrong place?)
Yeah, but you can install it on other things
i have some laptop motherboards lying around
once i find a charger, i might try to run home assistant on them
also, a 6th gen celeron and 4gb of ram should be enough
i'm going to play with the vmdk on vmware and see what comes up
Are Orange-Pi's good?
@sand goblet what ports do I need to forward to ssh into my pi when not home?
22
Don't do 22 tbh
???
Also make sure you have changed the default password
preferrably don't allow password logins at all

im reading a book on assembly and it says something like this
makes use of EBP as an index:
mov eax,[ebp+10h]
This instruction will move a dword from 16 bytes (10 in hex) down the stack

isn't it supposed to either say [ebp-10h] or [esp+10h]

2 quick questions, who or what group of people started this server? does anyone know of a github/git server?
Who wants to help me start a GitHub server and grow it to be the main server for Github!! with enthusiasm
how much enthusiasm do we need?
For april fools you should've named the server javascript
Quack Overflow
eww github
why not use gitlab?
I've heard good things about gitlab, just for now github does the job for me
more people, more exposure for your projects, etc
github's owned by microsoft
plus the code is closed source
the same reason why people who hate twitter/facebook still use it if they're public figures
gitlab has nested organizations, plus a powerful ci/cd system
plus unlimited free public and private repos, with free ci/cd time
it has wikis, issues, boards and static websites
plus its community developed
I'll have to learn more about it
yeah!
like I said, I only use github for the exposure for my project
I hate microsoft
fair enough
same
but strategically, it seems like a better choice to stay on it for the short term, since I'm making a big open source thing that will get me work (hopefully) and break me into the field
once that happens though, then yeah, gitlab seems like a better alternative
yeah, fair enough
๐
what are ya making, if i may ask?
I still have a hard time explaining it in a few sentences.
imagine taking the concept of QR codes, but making them efficient enough that you can embed entire files in them
so technically, anywhere online that can host images or videos can now serve as a file host
huh wow
that would be really cool!
I'm trying to find a video I have, one second

so its basically encoded in a video
the rgb values in the video are the carrier of data, not the binary of the video itself
and by doing it this way, its resistant to corruption/compression
cool!
the reader is smart enough to "snap" the read RGB value to the nearest color in the palette
but yeah, that's my project
nice!
https://github.com/MarkMichon7/BitGlitter a little more if you care to see
the most complicated thing ive ever worked on is a todo app xD
ill definitely track your work. I may use it in a future project of mine
this is/was my first project for programming and python

I want to give this one away for free
i mean using colour alone, even on static images, is miles away from normal qr

and people seem to find it cool, so I want everyone to be able to use it for whatever
hehehe :D
yeah
time to go for a walk, I will be back later
sure!

@dry zenith @wooden silo I can find other literature using mv rather than wv so I'm pretty certain it's just a preference to make things dimensionless
because honestly, screw units
the whole thing becomes unitless
yeah. Tbh that just confused the crap out of me for a while
if it said p\mv you'd know exactly what it's talking about straight away
W is Nm/s (P = Fv or d/dt (W) = d/dt (Fd))
w is N, v is m/s so it becomes (Nm/s)/(Nm/s)
Work is Fxd -> Newton-metres. Power is d/dt (work) -> Newton-metres/second so watts are Newton-metres/second
if anyone needs to do dimensional analysis, Google takes care of units too
it's not helpful that weight, work and watts are all Ws
remind me what is p as a variable typically representing
momentum
I love the word inertia
they're similar words in english i can kinda see the failure mode
I love saying inertia instead of mass in equations and watching people do a double take
I wish more people taught "mass == inertia"
would help people with understanding newton's first law somewhat
i think it would fuck with physics students brains because then there's moment of inertia
it would make more sense then lol. "Nth moment of X" is another way of saying \int distance^n dX
we have first and second moment of areas, moment of force (also called just moment or torque), etc
most students struggle with the concept because moment sounds like something related to time
they'll get used to it. struggle with prejudice against name is uh momentary unlike bad notation and terminology which sticks and plagues forever
I'll never forgive civil engineers for calling the second moment of area the moment of inertia also because I had two different lecturers for my orbital mechanics/3d rigid body dynamics course for different halfs and different lecturers used different terminology
this is why every other major makes fun of civil
Mechatronic engineering
orbital mechanics though? Elective?
nup, orbital mechanics is combined with 3d rigid body dynamics. it was lit, no regrets
huh, TIL
the entire course we analysed a ridiculous amount of fidget spinners
like
way too many to count
i just had to do a double take to confirm
my uni only taught orbital mechanics as a standalone unit as part of aerospace and astrophysics
it was a 2nd year class, pretty introductory in the grand spectrum of aerospace planning courses
we have a further space engineering 4th year aerospace class too for the big bois
i like that structure better
4th year class The course draws upon and extends many of the methods used by mechanical and space engineers in their professional practices. You will learn how to perform advanced trajectory design and launch vehicle sizing; analyse issues related to thermal loading and control of space systems, perform reliability estimates for complex systems, analyse complicated tasks by reducing them to their individual components, and communicate your ideas and concepts through engineering drawings and written and oral reports.
lot more in depth
our mechanical courses are pretty well structured
but the mechanical faculty sort of babies you like you're in an american uni. tries to force you to keep a log book and go to classes and whatnot
electrical faculty treats you like adults but is also terribly disorganised and has worse teachers
Hey, we had the same meme with us but QUT, Griffith and Bond instead of UMelb, RMIT and Deakin
goddamn reposters
I have an aerospace friend @ monash and they complained about UQ's student rocket team stealing their rockets' name
it's an advanced form of cyberbullying
We've had Athena for a while though, not sure who got the name first
Australia has a new and healthy student rocket competition culture with proper rockets and UQ and monash are on top (UQ winning I think though that might be propaganda)
BBQ Space Tube
each launch including practice ones are tens of thousands of dollars worth so
oh, so serious naming then
I dont think our sponsors would like BBQ space tube
they'd like it if it doubled as a BBQ at launch
okay fuck nvm lmaoooo
although i suspect jet fuel is pretty not good for you
we also have red-bull-rocket (guess our sponsors), cuddlefish, mantas shrimp and barbershop
Question is who is sponsoring them
barbershop is the best name of the lot easily
"light at arms length"
We have a lot of sponsors. Lots of money comes from engineering faculty and boeing and solidworks and university's startup thingy
and stuff like that
No I mean the slavvy bois
boeing loves throwing money around lmao
they get a huge roi on it
we dont really have sponsors for specific rockets i dont think
And from German aerospace stuff I can confirm they do
student outreach programs = 1st pick of penultimate and grads
we have two competitive rockets (versions of minerva and athena), and the rest are sort of just pet "RnD" projects of specific people i think
i should have joined tbh but I have 2 exec positions in societies + 2 side job things so i already have my hands full
cant say i do rocket science :C
slavvy boi here
travelled 1733 ft and at max speed of 454 km/h
i made a pulse jet engine out of a bottle that was the correct size to need minimal modification
it didn't move
that's pretty good :o
slavvy boi got legs
(Athena for comparison travelled 10000ft and almost Mach 1 (1160 km/h))
oh.
That is more than I have fingers
cries in engineering
A biiit faster
30000ft
if it helps, my uni has an advantage and has the best hypersonics facility in the world at any university, with our facility rivalling that of NASA's
we also invented scramjets
look at that partner list boi
scramjets are lit
heuheuheu

sound can cause cancer now
well technically
it does.. but I'm not sure thats what he meant
I'm on my way to the l'hopital.. maybe some other time
sound can be used to treat cancer
by breaking up tumors
but i'm pretty damn certain sound can't cause cancer :p
it can cause loads of other health problems, for sure
so i did some googling
https://www.cancer.dk/nordsound/about-nordsound/noise-and-health/
Recent experimental studies have shown nighttime transportation noise to increase a number of biological risk factors, such as endothelial dysfunction, oxidative stress and blood pressure. Also, a disturb sleep is known to be associated with major diseases, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes, and potentially also cancer.
so in an indirect way sound can play a role in causing cancer lol
but by the same logic cars and trains and loud birds and noisy neighbours can cause cancer too
yeah
i did know of that study
:3
noise can be bad for your health but it doesn't cause cancer
if a causes b and b causes c then a causes c too, no?
i guess it depends on how far removed they are causally
if we're gonna try and define causation in terms of what can be held responsible for c ocurring
simply being part of the causal chain isnt enough to imply reponsibility
ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
there are things that directly cause cancer, obviously
bad sounds can make you unhealthy which raises your risk
but so does downing a bottle of ketchup with every chip
you can break down those 'direct' causes into many smaller chain events too
on molecular levels etc
radiation is a pretty direct cause
right, low causal distance
and then one step higher could be like, a nuclear meltdown causing the radiation
then one step higher would be the engineer falling asleep at the console
and one step higher he mightve spent the night watching the office and thats why he was sleepy and fell asleep
but then it makes no sense to say that the office caused the cancer
not in the common way we use 'cause' anyway
right, so in general when we say 'x causes y' when y involved people/sentient beings we're talking about 'x is responsible for y occuring' which is more of a uh... moral judgment call?
rather than like the pure hard cold logic behind something causing something else
no wait that doesnt make sense
how do you deal with things like earthquakes then
you cant moralize about an earthquake
i give up ๐
yeah, dumb. :3
oh then again it mightve been a man made earthquake... ok wait actually it makes a glimmer of sense ๐

my bad sorry
@summer cape Chrome doesn't specifically
I use an extension that's available on both Firefox and Chrome called Stylus
oh ๐
The dark mode I use is excellent and configurable
tho I probably read somewhere that chrome is getting dark mode
