The name "blurple" is entirely discord's naming their own branding indigo shade. "Original blurple" was less saturated, more pastel - see this server's icon as the branding was done with old discord blurple. Now the name "blurple" refers to new discord branding colour, as Brad showed.

But because of discord popularity, people stopped using "indigo" to refer to shades between blue and purple. :/ It annoys the heck out of me, we're losing such a beautiful word because of funny-sounding marketing move!

the shortish story of AMD64's name is that Intel made 32-bit and 64-bit upgrades to the originally 16-bit x86, but IA-64 was backwards-incompatible with IA-32. They also excluded AMD from discussions on IA-64 (and thus licensing as well, AMD suspected), so AMD made (hence the name) an extended version of IA-32 called AMD64 (aka x86-64 along a zillion other names) which supported both x86-16 and IA-32 (aka i386, or sometimes just x86)

tl;dr AMD64's name has "AMD" in it because they made a backwards-compatible competitor to intel's IA-64, which wasn't

That chapter doesn't work well for pure language development I don't think, partly because implementing Python in Python blurs all sorts of lines between what you got from the lower Python and what you provide in the upper Python.

The biggest advantage to using Python is that we can more easily implement just the interpreter, and not the rest of the Python run-time, particularly the object system. For example, Byterun can fall back to "real" Python when it needs to create a class.
I kind of want to also implement the runtime and do everything from scrach, without relying too much on Python.
But I think I'll still give it a read, because the actual interpreter is still quite important

it was an interesting project. I started from someone else's, and built on it. I was getting frustrated by not knowing where the line was between the two Pythons. I also had a specific reason for it, but the reason went away, so I stopped working on it.

and you have two functions (run_out_of_attempts_easy/hard) which aren’t really functions. they’re more like… procedures? you could refactor (inline) them so there isn’t a function call

actually, there is no difference between easy and hard mode besides the number of attempts

this is an opportunity to use a function with an argument for the number of attempts

so you don’t have to repeat yourself (one advantage of functions!)

and instead of hard-coding a list of 100 numbers, you can do list(range(1, 101)) or [i for i in range(1, 101)]

but actually, you’re only doing this to pick a random number… so why not use random.randint(1, 100) or random.randrange(1, 101)?

You should also handle edge cases: what if a user inputs a letter that isn’t E or H for the difficulty? Your code simply doesn’t do anything in this case, but it might be better to let them know what went wrong and give them another chance.

So my current school district is denying the school computers quite a few functions of python (as far as I'm aware, just started this year so I'm unsure abt a lot of pythons capabilities), and I'm wondering how that would impact my experience? I mean, you can do a lot with the bare minimum for sure, but without the ability for python to look at files and other things that aren't as "newbie", I feel like I might as well have looked up a couple of tutorials and spent a few weeks learning.

And then there's the big companies having adapted it already so its likely here to stay, new projects or replacements of existing ones
