Have standards
professionals have standards
I'm trying to figure out a meeting format that makes sense. This is a team that's time is split 50% supporting other team's requests and 50% working on our own projects.
Currently, they just have a long list of "discussion" topics and just try to get through it. It's dreadfully boring and not very engaging and takes too long. I'm trying to see if there can be a different structure that's better.
yes
The simplest split seems to be making half of the meeting optional for different people - and splitting it between support stuff vs the stuff the team owns
So everyone on the team does the support/work on our own project unfortunately. It's a split of duties, not people
@hollow haven A sledgehammer. When people start taking too long, whip it out and lay it down on the conference table.
Stare at them. 🙂
Just encourage people to talk less
I'm trying to figure out if maybe something like the agile/stand up type thing makes sense? I'm just not familiar with it
Yes
Honestly, this is the nature of meetings. People will jam their thing into a meeting because it's easier than making a confluence page or sending a long email to just the right person
I did X yesterday, doing Y today. Highlights only
talking for 5m in a meeting is easier than taking the time to write out a well thought out set of text
people over rely on synchronous communications
@wanton escarp Randomly playing bass in the voice channel isn't acceptable
@rugged root Apologies, mic issue. Got a new one that i'm figuring out.
It happens. If you hop back on I can unmute you in VC
For some reason I can't do that unless you're connected
Done, Al
@rugged root Thanks. I'll look at it again. the mic.
No worries
Hey, everyone

@honest pier I'm not a pro and I don't have standards, does that still work?

@graceful grail really? if u have a licence of one state u can use it in every other state?
With Inter'n people, can't get a chance to talk
@whole rover is there any chance you could create a graph of the most active voice users?
obviously not right now given that you're offline, but just as a random interesting graph

@somber heath hi
Hoy hi.
@somber heath im a create a bot with a java need compile to py can or not ?
for a discord bot
If you're doing something in java, then I would suggest you stick to java. You can invoke java from python using something like the subprocess module.
You could even have the two processes communicate that way if you really wanted to, but that's cobbling together two disparate systems in a way that feels over-engineered, for my tastes.
discord developer its say java its so ez for dev a bot
really idk

Yeah, discord.py doesn't support python 3.9 yet. It doesn't have binaries for it via pypi yet.
You'll have to build from source or use python 3.8

class discord.ext.commands.Bot(command_prefix, help_command=<default-help-command>, description=None, **options)```
Represents a discord bot.
This class is a subclass of [`discord.Client`](../../api.html#discord.Client "discord.Client") and as a result anything that you can do with a [`discord.Client`](../../api.html#discord.Client "discord.Client") you can do with this bot.
This class also subclasses [`GroupMixin`](#discord.ext.commands.GroupMixin "discord.ext.commands.GroupMixin") to provide the functionality to manage commands.
`command_prefix` The command prefix is what the message content must contain initially to have a command invoked. This prefix could either be a string to indicate what the prefix should be, or a callable that takes in the bot as its first parameter and [`discord.Message`](../../api.html#discord.Message "discord.Message") as its second parameter and returns the prefix. This is to facilitate “dynamic” command prefixes. This callable can be either a regular function or a coroutine.... The Array object lets you store multiple values in a single variable. It stores a fixed-size sequential collection of elements of the same type. An array is used to store a collection of data, but it is often more useful to think of an array as a collection of variables of the same type.

quick question about equality vs identity
def a = 123
def b = 123
def c = b
println a == b // shows equality, not identity...meaning that the do not share the same address space.
println c == b // shows identity, because they share the same address space.```
is this a good example?
== vs is, equality vs identity respectively, in Python.
= being assignment, of course.

Maybe.
Maybe you missed a step.
I'm a Linuxer, so I'm a little bit out of touch with Windows things.
I do a thing and it just works. A Windows user does a thing and it doesn't work and I'm thinking, "Well, shit..."
When I install packages in Python, I will often write python3 -m pip install packagename
Though for you as a Windows user, it might be py -m pip install packagename
Is it normal for coding assignments to do 4 things yet for some reason have 8 to 10 files and 4000 different overrides
so your trying to figure their shit out for hours instead of doing what your were learning

Web scraping is the desire path of programming.
If you don't give people an API to get what they want, they'll write a scraper to get it.
@somber heath how are you doing?
🤷♂️
...
could you later today spare 5min of your precious time to review some code of mine
to give me some hints for writing better code
I think your chances are good.
I did so by entering python3 -m pip install discord in my terminal. If you're on windows, you may have to use py or py3 instead of python3.
Though any questions about discord.py may be better directed to the #discord-bots chanel or the help channel system.

what age do u consider as children?
Under 15, i think. or 12?
anyone under 16 is dumb as fuck, 16-21 is iffy, above 21 is when your brain is considered fully developed
Mid twenties is more fully developed.
im 17. should i listen to those f-words?
anyone under 16 is dumb as fuck, 16-21 is iffy, above 21 is when your brain is considered fully developed
@hollow haven above 21 is when you expect the brain would be fully developed 😂

anyone under 16 is dumb as fuck, 16-21 is iffy, above 21 is when your brain is considered fully developed
@hollow haven what do u consider as dumb????
look at this kid he is 14 and he is about to do phd and u consider him dumb smh

I have met some very dumb people who have PhDs. But I meant mostly from a brain development perspective. Under like 22-ish, a person's brain isn't fully developed. Under like 16 is when the brain is still very much actively growing
oh ye wait up i got something else
Certain centers of the brain just simply haven't developed by certain ages.
What kutiekatj9 means is more behavioural not knowledge
Begin to use deductive logic, or reasoning from a general principle to specific information
i don't think this means that 12 and up means being dumb
Also that states development until 12 and not until 22
12 and up generally means adolescence (21, 22) and adulthood
It means you start thinking in that way when your an adolescent and an adult. Thats when that stage is at it's highest
does anyone know anything about google foobar?
oofe
It means you start thinking in that way when your an adolescent and an adult. Thats when that stage is at it's highest
@keen current right and that's called dumb?
Dumb is a subjective term. I wouldn't call it that way
@kindred arch You've got some nasty feedback coming from your mic. Can you mute yourself for us?
Thanks
Dumb is a subjective term. I wouldn't call it that way
@keen current tell that to her
Don't worry about it. She probably meant dumb as "dumb" instead of stupid
this is the defintion
.
temporarily unable or unwilling to speak.
simplify or reduce the intellectual content of something so as to make it accessible to a larger number of people.
so i don't think either of these definition fit in her sentence.
So please don't use the word that u clearly don't know the definition of.
The United States doesn't have a cap on its Social Security. It has a Stetson.
The UK has a bucket.
Australia, ugg boots.
@thorny pulsar What's up?
@pure path Dumb also has the definition of "lacking intelligence" or "showing a lack of intelligence", which more along the lines of what I meant. I was mostly just referencing the brain development in a casual and slightly humorous/exaggerated way.
Tack-o-bell. Like Taco Bell, but your food has tacks in it and the wallpaper is terrible.
@brisk current
Use a dictionary
it wasn't slightly exaggerated.
and i don't think developing can be considered as lacking of intelligence or dumb
also intelligence is defined as the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills
and there are 14 years old with knowledge of phd which clearly have intelligence
ok I will use a dict
