Yeah, so this morning I woke up with something in my eye. Like an eyelash or whatever, and it would not come out. It became deeply distressing and nauseating and I went into shock, resulting in me going blind as my vision went all "oh shit I stood up too fast" x 10. I also felt like I was overheating. Would have expected the opposite.
rip
there was also this weird rushing/ringing noise in my ears
The eye is better but it's still a little residually irritated

so
the for loop that's given here does something for each element in lst
!e
for x in [1, 2, 3, 4]:
print('beginning of loop')
print(x)
@tidal salmon :white_check_mark: Your eval job has completed with return code 0.

003 | beginning of loop
004 | 2
005 | beginning of loop
006 | 3
007 | beginning of loop
008 | 4
does this make sense?
all the lines in the for loop happen for each element of the list. an "element" is just an item in the list.

Hi everyone
I need some ideas on how to solve a small personal project
project is :
There is a site which gives training like tutorials, I want to make program in python which will visit each tutorial page and click a specific button so that I finishes the lesson and I want it to do it automatically, like automation and I should show me the last page of the tutorial page.. How can I do this? please help
@somber heath
@lyric dragon *you're
also i hate to break it to you, but the kid in my pfp is not me
In Australia, we had Port Arthur and after that, we did away with rifle firearms and sosuch and haven't looked back. When the NRA suggested Australians had no freedom because of this, we all collectively went 🤨 at them. We're all pretty damn supportive of the idea of all and sundry not having firearm access.
I expect most deaths would be age and health related, rather than death through accident or murder
Opal, so how about that encryption bill?
Our politics are shit.
No question.
I feel as though we got the guns thing right, though.
For us, it's a good situation.
I understand
It mightn't be the right thing for everyone, given their respective situations.
I've stepped out of the voice chat, but here's my question about gun ownership in the military. If I understand correctly, you said the US needs to spend as much as it does on the military so that no other country, or combination of countries, would even consider attacking the US. But you also said that private gun ownership is necessary so that American citizens can, if need be, defeat the military and overthrow the government
Aren't these mutually exclusive objectives?
heh
Rules are supposedly in the constitution about that, yeah?
So assuming the rules are abided by...
Assuming very generously
It all "works"
Military != Civilian
Alright
I'm assuming most of you can read this
this is a polarizing topic, and we're not a political server
@warped plaza @amber raptor @lyric dragon
we where having a nice general debate tbh
I wouldn't call it a no-fun zone, but your conversation has made some people unhappy, and we're not really up to moderate beyond what we allow at the moment
bast what if we move it to afk?

Are they microscopes that can look at atoms, somehow?
CLion is for Rust, but I just started with rust two days ago
So far it seems okay. I'm a bit new to the "ownership" principle it has
@somber heath yeah, they move nanoscale probes over surfaces to make topography maps at atomic scale
Bit of a different way of thinking
I had a question about a certain mode in one of them, and was wondering if anyone here knew anything about them
yes that is bit weird, and confusing also
@twin harbor sush
your mic should be off

@hollow haven I want to close files or apps using os module
It's a bit easy to use
Greetings
Thanks
if you're working with files in python you should be using a context manager
Might hop on later if you guys are still around
with open("file.txt") as f:
do_things_with_f
you can also do ```py
with open("a.txt") as f:
# do things
no need to close```
@acoustic ingot when you say "close apps" what do you mean?
@hollow haven Here's what I was trying to do, I was making modes for a "virtual assistant" and want to open the modes and after that, want to close the previous one
@olive sentinel are you streaming? because for a while it appeared you were streaming
Ves's stream is still up and working for me

and I want to close the script fully after the next mode has started and don't want it to stop and change the mode until there is the command to change the mode
so I'm not entirely certain by what you mean by "after the next mode has started". I'm not sure what mode is in your context.
Do you mean that once you say "Wikipedia" that it'll keep searching in wikipedia until you say "stop" or something like that?
Umm, not exactly
there are three of them
- TakeCommand mode
- Input Mode
- Hyper_Security Mode
And it is the Hyper_Security mode
that I am coding right now
So it sounds like you just want to execute different functions with some sort of flow control where it stays in that function until something is said to exit that function.
so I'm not entirely certain by what you mean by "after the next mode has started". I'm not sure what mode is in your context.
Do you mean that once you say "Wikipedia" that it'll keep searching in wikipedia until you say "stop" or something like that?
@hollow haven And btw it is not exactly you think but what I wanted to say is, once the Hyper_Security Mode has started, it shouldn't go off at any cost until there is the command "stop {mode}"
So it sounds like you just want to execute different functions with some sort of flow control where it stays in that function until something is said to exit that function.
@hollow haven Yeah, but it is not a function it itself is a code
It's a different python script you want to execute?
Yeah
Well, I'd typically try to keep everything in one python file and import the other programs you need and have one main controlling statement.
If you want to execute other python scripts and have them run of their own you can use the subprocess module and do something like:
subprocess.run('python other_file.py')
https://docs.python.org/3/library/subprocess.html#subprocess.run You can potentially use the fact that it returns a CompletedProcess instance to use that to control whether or not your main code moves on or not
@acoustic ingot ^ if you didn't see it

You'd think people would put at least a half decent amount of attention to detail into things.
Into phishing attempts.
Even if you are spamming a billion people and will get some idiots filling in their CC details, the effort to return ratio would be greatly improved with a little bit of effort on the window-dressing.

@graceful grail yo was it you asking about dipswitches on the pinephone?
Mine arrived a couple days ago, it's got 6:

- Wifi + BT
- Microphone
- Rear Camera
- Front Camera
- Headphones
@south cosmos nice pfp

Make a candle.
what are dipswitches
Portable linux box, open source hardware
Used to have dipswitches on an old printer.
tiny eletrical switches
right I think I know the kind.
on the pinephone they're used to disable certain parts of hardware
for privacy reasons presumably
Does make me wonder if it'll still let you use the Play Store
yeah, I was wondering the same
BRL-CAD https://sourceforge.net/p/brlcad/code/HEAD/tree/
Apparently the oldest known public version-controlled codebase that's still under active development
Google requires agreements for Play Store
@inland finch https://discord.me/speakjs

I read an anecdote of an IT support person, I think it was, who, when they communicated with clients would often have bad feedback about her given to her employers and the clients were always telling her how she didn't know what she was talking about and all that crap. She and a male coworker swapped e-mails and signed each other's names in the e-mails. She started getting all the compliments and good feedback and the male coworker got all the nasty feedback and complaints and disparagements.

someone please
replace string with str
!tempmute 735169663993905343 1d I really don't know why you think doing that print statement was acceptable. You should know better by now.

I think it was a joke
I think I got 80 last time I did one.
call me SONIC
also, if you have a float in a string, you can't convert it to an int
convert the string to a float, then the float to an int
Why oof why
also you can't iterate an int
@amber raptor you could say that about his original print statement too
string it
yeah, so convert your int to a string first
Convert ALL the things!
this will run without errors
print(print(print(set(list(str(int(float(str(float(int(50.0)))))))))))
it will output
{'5', '0'}
None
None
where the Nones are due to the nested print statments
accept the boo boo
Multidimensional arrays, yeah. Numpy, I think.
try numpy
@whole bear You need to fix that echo
Ok

even better, do print(print(print("".join(set(list(str(int(float(str(float(int(50.0)))))))))))) which will output
50
None

Pasting large amounts of code
If your code is too long to fit in a codeblock in discord, you can paste your code here:
https://paste.pydis.com/
After pasting your code, save it by clicking the floppy disk icon in the top right, or by typing ctrl + S. After doing that, the URL should change. Copy the URL and post it here so others can see it.
Woops
hey guys im new to computer science and am getting this error
here's an improved version of the earlier print statement

outputs 50
