I don’t have the most amazing laptop but the game basically moves at a crawl at all times, are there settings to move things along?

CPU and RAM is not enough. You can turn off card images and animations in the settings (classic) but when computing a lot of cards in play, it will still slowdown. It's just that the mobile (adventure) version is heavier on resources.
