#Android Save Migration

Starting this on behalf of someone else to try to troubleshoot moving their saves from desktop to Android. I was able to do it with almost no problems (non-rooted Android doesn't like you messing with "secret" folders sometimes.

Edit: The immediate issue was resolved with a manual workaround, but there's some concern that the intended method wasn't working, if a dev wants to review this and dig any deeper.

Hey there

nova stump
#

Hey.

#

Are you able to share Android screenshots fairly easily? I'm trying to think of how best to troubleshoot this.

#

I'm able to get it done on a stock Galaxy Tab S6, no rooting or anything.

little trellis
#

I'm on a galaxy fold 5

#

sorry, was in the middle of a game and trying to get out of a cave so I could use the most recent save. xD

nova stump
#

No worries.

#

So, to clarify: You have files in Android/obb/forge.app/Forge/data/adventure/Shandalar right now, and they aren't working?

little trellis
#

Let me look. I have 2 sets of files, one for synching via windows link and the phone link via cable right now to access direct storage. I was just browsing the wrong one.

#

that is correct.

#

And I've tried downloading the whole shandalar folder as well as just the forge.adv

nova stump
#

I don't know what forge.adv is.

little trellis
#

The save file basically that it created when I did a backup

nova stump
#

I don't know anything about that. I just copied over these files:

#

(Thinking further.)

little trellis
#

So what it tells you to do, is incorrect.

#

I should make a bug post about this...

#

At least for clarity sake

nova stump
#

And this would be the Linux equivalent of the %appdata% folder on Windows.

little trellis
#

Yup.

#

I do speak some linux at least. 😛

nova stump
#

Okay, didn't want to make any assumptions. 🙂

#

I didn't look at any instructions for how to do this. I just kinda assumed this would work, and as far as I can tell, it did.

little trellis
#

I was trying to use the backup method to get the path to copy things and it just generated the file, so I made an assumption that was what it wanted me to move.. not thinking clearly. Apparently on my phone at least, it just breaks the whole thing. Deleting the file appears to have loaded my old save at least

#

I'll try figuring out a way to synch the file later

nova stump
#

Do you have a link to whereever it talks about the backup method?

little trellis
#

No. It is in app.

#

It's just following the backup and where the folder was generated.

#

I made an assumption that the file generated was what I needed and putting it in broke the save files. Idk if it was trying to read both or what, but deleting everything then moving the shandalar folder with the saves in it seems to have fixed it.

nova stump
#

Oh I see. I didn't even think to use that.

little trellis
#

And unfortunately (I partly blame android) It doesn't generate to anywhere accessible to most people.

#

Unless they know what they are doing apparently.

nova stump
#

I think I see how it's supposed to work now. And it's even easier than what I was doing, if I understand it. I'm gonna test it as soon as I finish updating the desktop version.

little trellis
#

Wait, are you the dev? xD I'm sorry for screwing up something so simple.

nova stump
#

Oh no, I'm nobody.

little trellis
#

Okay lol

nova stump
#

So the intended instructions: On Desktop: Data > Backup. Transfer forge.adv to Download on Android (/storage/emulated/0/Download on my tablet, at least). Open Forge on Android, Data > Restore. It grabs forge.adv out of the Android Download folder.

little trellis
#

Hmmm... It definitely wasn't grabbing it.

nova stump
#

Weird. Well, this is what it should do when it works:

#

And if the file isn't in Download:

#

You're all set now though (with the manual workaround)? Do you want to keep this thread as a bug report for why it didn't work for you, if so?
