Attacking Creatures?

I think I'm doing something wrong but I can't seem to attack other creatures? I've tried clicking on them as per the instructions in the help box?

I'm not sure I understand.

are you expecting to be able to have creatures you control deal damage to an opponent's creatures when you declare attacks? that's not how magic the gathering combat works
