#Game doesn't seem to open.

Hello! I'm new to Forge (I found out about it thanks to a friend) and the game, for me, doesn't seem to open at all. I've tried numerous things, such as updating Java to the latest version alongside restarting my laptop, but nothing seems to work.
When I try to open the game by double-clicking the executable, it doesn't do ANYTHING, although before I updated my Java it showed the error attached. No matter what version I try, from the JAR files to the executables, nothing happens. I don't even think it's getting to boot, since no log file is being generated. If anyone has any idea for things I can try, I'll gladly take the advice!
I've tried both the latest snapshot and the latest release on Github.

From your command line what does java --version

fading jasper
#

let me check

novel steeple

Sorry was on my way to dinner

fading jasper
#

it's okay, don't worry

novel steeple
#

I think you have to run a different file but I don't have the info on my phone

fading jasper
#

when you're able to check, can you ping me with what you think i need to run please?

#

it's getting pretty late so i'm thinking of going to sleep for tonight

novel steeple
#

I won't have it for 2 more hours

#

Gotta put the kids to sleep

fading jasper
#

ah, alright

novel steeple
#

Did you try running the forge.sh file?

#

Its setup for the latest version of java

fading jasper
#

I remember that I did, but it prompted me to open it in something and I had no idea what to run it with

novel steeple
#

Its just a shell script. It runs the java with the right arguments we need to function

fading jasper
#

Ah

#

I still have no idea how to run it tbh >>_>>

novel steeple
#

You should be able to just double click on it

fading jasper
#

I’ve tried that, it prompts a menu asking what I want to open it with

#

I’m not at home right now- when I get back I’ll take a screenshot for you

novel steeple
#

Alright when you get home, try opening a command prompt in the directory and running the file from there

#

You are on Windows right?

fading jasper
#

i am, and i just got home

#

i'll try that, thank you for the help so far

#

i tried it multiple times, first time it opened the same prompt, second time onwards it just did nothing

novel steeple
#

When you ran from the command prompt?

#

It should give you actual info

fading jasper
#

i tried a few things (don't mind giving away my account name on my laptop, it's not my irl name)

#

NOTHING

#

i just looked it up, i might be doing it wrong? I'll try what i found then let you know

#

nope, didn't work

novel steeple
#

Are you trying to run it from inside the tar?

#

I think you need to extract everything out

fading jasper
#

that has been extracted

novel steeple
#

I would try extracting it again

fading jasper
#

it's been fully extracted, i think

#

the folder is just named that

#

i'll try pulling the main folder out of it

novel steeple
#

Its not really logging anything, so i'm not really sure what to tell you

#

Maybe something on your computer is preventing it from launching

fading jasper
#

there shouldn't really be anything, all i have open is firefox, discord, file explorer and command prompt open
it might be windows defender? though nothing has popped up which makes me think that it could be it

novel steeple
#

Can you try downloading the latest snapshot?

fading jasper
#

yeah, i'll try that

restive talon
#

Im having the same issues with the latest snapshot

fading jasper
#

OKAY

#

i think we're close?
although that "command not found" thing is... concerning

novel steeple
#

don't run bash

#

./forge.sh

fading jasper
#

ah

#

wait what is that supposed to be-

fading jasper
coral trout
#

wait, if Windows, then .bat, not .sh ?

fading jasper
#

there arent any .bat files in it

coral trout
#

.cmd, my bad (older Forge used to have .bat, or did I imagine it ??)

fading jasper
#

OH

#

that did something

#

i have no idea what to do with it but its something new at least

#

and then this happens if i try to run forge adventure

fading jasper
#

i updated my drivers (at the behest of a friend) and lo and behold, IT RUNS!!!
I'm sorry for the whole ordeal i put everyone through, but thank you all for being patient with me!

fading jasper
#

okay, now trying to play adventure, it locks up at the intro screen...

rapid idol
#

any logs?

fading jasper
#

as far as i can tell, unfortunately not

#

i'm opening it through the cmd file, this is what my command prompt looks like while its locked up

rapid idol
#

on run (WIN+R) type this %appdata%/Forgethen upload forge.log here after you encountered any error, or freeze, restarting would erase the log again

fading jasper
rapid idol
#

hmmm it seems forge don't have write access, can you try running it as admin mode with priveleges? right click the exe and run as admin?

fading jasper
#

alright

rapid idol
#

if it doesn't run delete Forge folder in ...\AppData\Roaming, then run forge again, it should recreate the Forge folder again

fading jasper
fading jasper
#

okay, i found someone else with a similar issue (their game was locking up at the welcome to forge screen) and tried the solution recommended, NEW LOG FILE

novel steeple
#

Why is the snapshot saying .62? Shouldn't it be .63?

fading jasper
#

ah, that's because i've been testing .62

#

because i thought "hey, this is the most recent release, it should be more stable?"

#

this is the log file thats from using .63 (kinda redundant i know but like. i dont know what else to do )

#

also its mentioning an unsupported JNI version alongside a java error in command prompt

novel steeple
#

Failed to load: fallback_skin/title_bg_lq_portrait.png!. Creating dummy texture.
This soudns kinda bad

fading jasper
#

(cmd screenshot)

fading jasper
#

didn't work, also tried putting it in the resources folder

fading jasper
#

any ideas?

novel steeple
#

Nope sorry

#

Maybe when Kev is back he will

fading jasper
#

alright

#

thanks for the help though

rapid idol
#

if adventure mode hangs/freeze on startup, the res folder maybe missing some items. Could be problem in extraction or overwriting old files. Did you try to extract in different folder?

fading jasper
#

i will, thanks

#

checks inside res folder of the .tar
several folders/files that arent in the extracted version
i think i know what the problem is

#

it worked! thank you all for your help!

novel steeple
#

Any idea why those weren't extracting? It seems like a handful of people are having this problem and it usually comes down to, the file didn't get extracted properly

fading jasper
#

I used an application called Breezip
