When attempting to cast Double Major, the card just snaps to the field and then flies back into my hand as if it had been dragged out to the field. At no point does it ever initiate it's effect or even ask me to pay mana for it.

Do you have a legal target? I.e. A creature spell on the stack

If it was on the battlefield it would just say "target creature"
