#Protection from Red not fully functional

Why do you think protection isn't fully functional?
Freewind was tapped by Hellkite
So? Thats not what protection does
Protection is commonly misunderstood as complete exemption from permanents, and effects created by cards, with the specified quality. However, protection is defined by a relatively narrow set of rules, which are often communicated using the mnemonic acronym DEBT. The permanent or player with protection cannot be:
Damaged by sources with the specified quality. (All such damage is prevented.)
Enchanted, equipped, or fortified by permanents with the specified quality.
Blocked by creatures with the specified quality.
Targeted by spells with the specified quality, or by abilities from sources of that quality.
Or by abilities from sources of that quality would be covered in my issue. Elsewise, Hellkite should have just caused 1 damage and outright killed Freewind. One way or another, one effect happened and the other did not so protection did not work properly
Its not targeted
Protection doesn't come into effect
It prevents the damage, as listed in the first point
Targeted by: spells of the specified quality OR abilities of the specified quality
The rules were 100% in this case
[[Wrath of God]] still kills creatures with Protection from White
If the damage that would be dealt to a creature with flying is prevented, that creature will still be tapped. If that damage is redirected to another creature, the creature with flying will be tapped, not necessarily the creature that ultimately was dealt damage.

So then Hellkite should have damaged Freewind and killed it. Both effects should still happen. While it is not in the players advantage to point this out, it should still be consistent then so players don't get confused on why some level of the protection worked while others did not. I do get the targeted vs non targeted effects. I'd have chalked up the destruction to that, but the only thing that happened was the tapping.
The creature has protection, does it not?
But if you're saying that the damage is target specific it is understandable
The Hellkite doesn't say "Target" so it doesn't target
But if it receives red sourced damage, it will be prevented
I think you are overcomplicating this
It receives two effects. One damage. Two becoming tapped.
SInce it has protection damage is prevented. Full stop
Next, it becomes tapped
Haha, you may be right. At the base there is still red damage (negated regardless) and the unspecified effect causes the tapping
I am right
If the phrasing said something like
"Deal 2 damage to X. Any creature dealt damage this way do Y"
[[Aggravate]]
That effect would only happen if a creature actually receives damage
as soon as it comes under your control.)
