#Release schedule for Android?

Some things changed internally that required retooling of our Android builds. To be transparent about the process, there's very little different between our release and snapshot builds other than we try to do a release build each time a new set is completed. There's only a handful of very specific reasons to stick to releases rather than using the latest snapshot at any given time.

OK, cool! I appreciate that! I figured it was something like that, but the reason I posted was that when opening Forge it gives the "out of date" notification on android, and if you hit to update, it will say update failed (I'm assuming because it queries for the current version, then checks for that version in releases, and can't find it)

#

so perhaps a suggestion that it ensure before prompting user to update that there is indeed a more up to date version in releases

#

or notify the user that to get a more up to date version, they should switch to nightly/snapshot branch instead

I think thats more because you might have a version before the changes, and I can't change old versions

Hm, I'm using the latest version in releases

#

1.6.53.001

#

it prompts for update

#

but there are of course no apk releases after that

#

so it gives me an error

#

I was puzzled for a second, but had a bit of time so spent a few minutes checking github and then came here to ask after I saw that there hadn't been an apk release since mid-2022

Right the update system changed after that

#

Just install a snapshot as #announcements say

lean mountain
#

yes, was just making sure that you knew there was an issue

#

of course the next time there is a new apk build in releases, then this problem will be eliminated

#

because of this new update system

turbid nymph
#

The old versions are referencing files incorrectly and I can't change the old ones

lean mountain
#

but until then, anyone with a release apk build will have this perpetual error

turbid nymph
#

No, it won't be. You'd need to isntall manually

lean mountain
#

oh, hm, so even if there is a new apk release (i.e. not a snapshot one), the old update mechanism still won't find it?

#

(just curious is all)

turbid nymph
#

Yes. It's broken.

lean mountain
#

OK, fair enough

#

thanks for the help and explanations (both of you!)!

#

and awesome app btw 👍

#

[ok, I see now as well, looking through your commits to it under blame] cool cool 👍
