its just something they do for 點、那、這 in this context can be used for this alongside some verbs - but this usage is quite northern mainland china (beijing) and formal. southerners, taiwan and formal settings (eg. news) do not use this. this is 兒化音

other uses are that it actually means child / son 兒子
女 woman + 兒 = daughter 女兒

subsequently it makes thing smaller (like picolo and picolino in italian) - this is still under the rules of northern china + informal
小 little + 鳥 bird + 兒 = little birdie
小 little + 孩 child + 兒 = little kid/kiddo
