#Could I get some help with CC3 + kane crashing Windows 10

Brought the game on both Steam and EA
The game crashes randomly, either 30 minutes into a session or immediately after loading a save. I'm playing solo against brutal bots and haven't tested multiplayer.

I've tried solutions from Reddit posts, including:

--Medstar Fixed C&C Ultimate Collection Launchers Installer: Doesn't work with EA, and the game won't run. When installed via Steam, the games don't appear.
--Used Revo Uninstaller to remove all files before reinstalling on Steam.
Installed DirectX 9 as recommended in this post:

Changed compatibility settings for the executable files to Windows Vista or 7.

My PC specs: 64GB DDR4 RAM, RTX 5070, i7-10700K.

In the game settings, it shows version 1.03, but I thought the latest version is 1.10. Neither Steam nor EA updates to anything newer.

That Reddit post is honestly crap:

  • Fixed launchers aren't relevant anymore for these games as those EA App only launchers have been replaced by fixed ones natively earlier this year
  • Please remove the -win -xres -yres commands completely, not need. Don't know why the post says to not remove them. Feels like a person not knowing what they are doing.
  • You DON'T want to force the usage of integrated graphics, you want to force the usage of the dedicated GPU!
  • Remove the run as admin setting. Remove the compatibility settings. These can only severely mess the game up. Those are already set right by default.
  • Desktop shortcuts will work fine of course, even two years ago.

Reinstalling the game after wiping everything

  • Go into the installation folder of the game.
  • Wipe EVERYTHING in it from existence, delete ALL the files thus of the game by hand.
    • Simple uninstall through EA or Steam might not help!
    • No registry cleaner needed.
  • Reinstall the game then through EA or Steam. Or validate/verify installed files.
  • Then boot the game once.
  • Then after that redownload and reinstall Tacitus.

We will do the complete wiping to get rid of any mods and tweaks you might have wrongly applied due to other user's questionable advice.

1.10 is the version of the base game Tiberium Wars, Kane's wrath indeed has the 1.03 version number attached to it. So, everything is normal for you regarding version.

Did you install Tacitus/C&C:Online and apply the 4 GB patch when asked to?

This could possibly be a simple issue where the game crashes due to running out of its standard limited 2 GB of RAM

And no, work has started on a guide, but hasn't been finished yet

But the steps:

  • Download Tacitus: https://cnc-online.net/en/download/
  • Install it for Kane's Wrath
  • Boot the game
  • It will ask to apply the 4 GB patch
  • Click Yes/Ok
  • Should now be applied
  • Check by playing the game to see if the issue has been solved

Game is 32-bit, which means it can only use 4 GB of RAM maximum. But, due to it being an older game, it can only use 2 GB of RAM, which can be too little when playing larger modded maps or larger battles. That can result in crashes.

Thus, the 4 GB kinda hacks in 4 GB RAM support to solve that issue and thus increase stability.

update , deleted all file , ran evo uninstaller , install new copy of steam . ran tacitus . crash on 5 bots or more . in am guessing im hitting the old game limitation .

i just tried to reinstall the tacitus , but it didnt show up any thing about 4gb

Please do the following for me to gather info about your PC hardware and drivers:

  • Type in dxdiag within the Windows Search option/bar within the taskbar.
  • Open this, it shows it with a blue round icon with a yellow cross in it.
  • Click on Save All Information at the bottom of the screen that popped up.
  • Save it to a location of your choice
  • Please upload the saved DxDiag.txt document here.

Ok:

  • Windows 10 x64
    • It will get unsupported in a few months. Would advise the upgrade to Windows 11. Your computer is totally compatible with it.
  • i7-10700K
  • 64 GB RAM
  • RTX 5070
    • Bit outdated GPU-driver though. Likely by a couple of months to half a year. Want me to help you updating it? Extremely slight chance of solving the issue though
  • No crappy integrated GPU here! Woehoe.
  • This user stole my keyboard 😛 Man, this keyboard is soooo nice.
  • Ample of HDD storage left.
  • Intel(R) Ethernet Connection (7) I219-V ethernet adapter.
    • Driver outdated by 5 years. Would you like me to help you updating this driver? Could honestly be the fix.

We sadly do not have access to the source code. The team working on a community patch for ZH do and you don't want to know how many crash fixes and memory leaks they have fixed since March.

Probably the KW code would be in a better technical condition, but still....
