As time went on after the tragic The Great Tsunami (#1218903365367500842), Moreton County began to recover. Buildings, roads and livelihoods were rebuilt. Follow this thread to see how the county started to return to a sense of normality.

Be sure to check out #1218939537208774757 to see what it had to recover from, and #1218942429420454088 to see the humanitarian aid operation.

The first step of course was clearing the rubble. This was after emergency workers had already spent painstaking hours searching, rescuing people and recovering bodies from the wreckage. Many properties had also been salvaged for anything that could be of sentimental and financial value to property owners and families.

#

All the meanwhile during recovery, humanitarian assistance remained in the county. Large camps had formed to house homeless and provide aid. Army engineers and contractors worked to build basic replacements for essential buildings such as accommodation and city services.

#

Some of these services included the construction of fire stations and emergency shelters. Basic brick & concrete structures could be built but remained fairly strudy to house fire trucks and be weather resistant.

#

One of the first structures to be rebuilt was the Moreton Municipal Airport, which was then renamed the 'Moreton Field International Airport.'

During the #1218942429420454088, the washed out airport became known as 'Moreton Field' as a central hub for emergency operations and humanitarian aid. The military were quick to open it up for international assistance.

In time it became the county's only international airport for both civilian and aid flights.

#

The Moreton International Airport that had been built a few decades before (#1218549590115094569 ) was largely washed away and unusable, which will be covered in the next post.

#

During recovery 'The Working Cim' remained as a figure of working to build Moreton County. This statue was built decades beforehand and also managed to survive the tsunami. More can be read about this figure at: To celebrate industry a statue of 'The Working Cim' was erected in the City of White's central square. The worker was positioned with a story; their back was turned to the docks & industrial district they'd been working at, while their front faced the skyline of the metropolis they helped build.

#

Within time the train service was also restored. This was a huge step in the right direction as Moreton had largely lost it's public transport with the tsunami. While bus routes were the first to be re-established it took time to rebuild parts of washed away railroad.

Desert Sands (#1217944981709525223), like Blackwater, was obliterated (#1219778140600270880). Much unlike Blackwater, how-ever, Desert Sands was filthy rich and because of this they were allowed to rebuild on the floodplain on one condition; they built a wall. And they did. A 50 foot seawall was built around the town to allow building of the new 'modernist' style homes. The realtors marketed this community as safe, modern, and scenic!

With the closure of the Moreton County Nuclear Power Station following the Tsunami, many projects got underway to build back more sustainable energy sources to reduce the number and extent of power outages that were occurring in the county. These included wind farms, solar farms, a geo-thermal power station and wave generators. Despite all this it still wasn't enough but it definitely helped.

In the Coombe Harbour District some properties were repaired and others rebuilt. This area became a sort of ghetto as a result of the tsunami ( #1219778140600270880 ) and didn't see that much growth.

There was also a countywide requirement in place that buildings were rebuilt in a similar style to the ones that stood before, which helped to maintain the character of the county but also turned away developers.

It took many years for Tower City to begin rebuilding it's towers but it did. The first skyscraper was rebuilt in place of where one collapsed before. The county still wanted to build upwards rather than outwards as the tower movement began to take pace again.

Further construction and development of properties in the County of Moreton inline with the Green Space Initiative (mentioned in #1220507224653168722) saw them become more eco-friendly, more cost-efficient and sturdier to protect against disasters of all kinds and replace the lost buildings in the county.

#

The population was increasing back to pre-Tsunami levels as a result.

Development had resumed in the City of Coombe after a period of stalled growth due to the tsunami. With towers being rebuilt around the Coombe Business District.
