Kirkport, the largest settlement on the Upper Pacific Coast, is the newest city in the 'Scotia' series of mine, a fictional post-colonial nation on a continent in place of the Americas. It's an elaborate excuse to make custom maps and lore, really. My cities/threads with ", SC" at the end denote 'Scotia'.

The city has many attractions already, as of typing, such as:

  • Kirkport Palace, a beautiful legacy of the Monarchist era of the nation
  • Point Fergus, a small leisurely town opposite from Kirkport's King's Harbour
  • Ren, a hamlet just up the road from Point Fergus, home to 190.

Firstly, though, let's look at Point Fergus...

#

*Point Fergus, home to 7,858, is the first town (in terms of when I built it) on the Kirkport map.

Located at the southwestern most point of the Lang Peninsula (literally: Long Peninsula), Point Fergus is a historic coastal town. The first major settlement for roughly 35km on the Northern Coastal road, designed the A98, and being at the end of the route, the town developed a great leisure industry, with the Promenade (more recently expanded to include a Seawall, footpaths and an upgraded ferry terminal) including Cafés, Gyms, Pubs and Restaurants. The town has an Office park to it's Eastern end, however in the main it retains a traditional look.
The town hall sits adjacent to the Ferry Terminal and Seawall, with ferry connections directly to Kirkport, which is the large island visible in some of those screenshots.*

Palace & Gardens posts are copy & pasted from #console-gallery..:

*Kirkport Palace was the most common place of residence of the former Royal Family of Scotia - preffering the more 'relaxed' city at Kirkport to the 'Busy, Metropolis' that was the capital, Scotia (City).

The Palace, similar in it's aesthetic to Buckingham Palace in the United Kingdom, sits at the end of the 480m long (incl. roundabout) Royal Way, and historically was used for many public gatherings.

Since the abolition of the monarchy in the 1990s, the Palace and it's majestic gardens have been transformed into a Tourist Attraction, drawing in millions of visitors every year.*

#

The Public Gardens lie directly to the West (front) of the Palace.
Split in two by Royal Way, a Six-lane boulevard with Oak trees on either side, the Gardens were historically a huge attraction for the Citizens of the City, as they offered a large place of well-maintained grass, trees and nature.

#

The Southern half of the Gardens is, in present times, the Smaller half, with infrastructure installed to allow buses to have a stopping point that diverts them from the busy side streets, with a dedicated Bus Expressway (Busway) at the Southern end of the gardens.

#

*Meanwhile, the Northern half is in its traditional form, with the dirt paths being retained from the historical designs (these used to be mirrored on the South side, however those were removed with the Busway project), and a variety of trees and bushes within.

On the Northern side of the garden lies the Royal Quarter, a Historic district that has, regrettably, been consumed by modernisation for business purposes.*

#

*The star(s) of the show, however, are the Dual Rider Statues in the middle of Royal Way's roundabout.

Depicting two 15th Century Scotsmen, presumed to be Cavalry Soldiers in the Scottish Wars of independence, stand proudly alongside the treeline, facing to the Palace.

Historians believe the statues were built alongside the development of Kirkport as a Colony, to symbolise both strength and unity, as the Scots Heritage of the nation is what unifies it's people the most.

Although, these days, it's less warfare, and more birds chirping. Seriously, it's all you can hear in the gardens!*

Using a combination of Parking Lots, Warehouses and, of course, harbours/cargo terminals, Kirkport Ocean Terminal is opened!

It's a big day for Kirkport, however, as the Royal Old Town Hospital opened to the public as well!
Joined onto a large multi-story car park, as well as ground level lots, the hospital is the first in Kirkport as a city - the only other one nearby was in Point Fergus.

This meant that ~25,000 people all relied on one Medical Clinic! Whoops.

The hospital sits at the Western End of the Public Gardens of the Palace, hence the "Royal" title within the name.
