During the first 6 months of Japan's war against the Allied forces, Japan enjoyed a streak of swift and resounding victories against the US, Britain and the Commonwealth, China, and other Asian nations.
This is due to their aggressive tactics, supported by the fact that they were the most numerous and prepared force in the area, for example, at the beginning, Japan was the third most powerful naval force of the Second World War, with a greater number of ships than any other nation in the Pacific, years of preparation and war with china, gave them the experience in tactics and sufficient equipment, to develop what at the time was one of the best air forces of the second world war, which was can translate into their superior aircraft like the Zero and well trained pilots.

However, all this changed as the war lengthened and the tactics of rapid and surprise warfare had less impact on the enemy.
At sea, the turning point was the battle of midway, where the naval advantage changed, and with the entry of the hellcats, the zeros could no longer fight.

The fact that the war lasted so long for Japan, thanks to the fact that unlike the US, Japan did not have a great industrial capacity and reinforcement of combatants, resulted in the alteration of the balance for Japan, since they could not produce enough ships, aircraft, vehicles and equipment as necessary, thus giving the use of non-combatable units, damaged equipment or lack thereof. The substitution of land, sea and air combatants was not ideal, thus giving combatants not prepared for battle.
Japan simply could not win a long war.
