what if torches had a duration value added to them, in which when a torch is out for a certain amount of time, that the torch "burns out" or is depleted from your inventory, forcing the player to manage their resources better? this could be a nice effect for dig deep when venturing caves

This does seem cool but i remember a mod doing this in mc, it was more of a hassle than a cool feature, as long as it can be toggled on and off then i'm on board

Only if its for in hand torches. I can see how much this would make me hate playing digdeep though of all my torches placed died over time

I don't think this is a good idea, people use torches for decoration and for lighting in mideavil builds

If it were added as a new block being a cheaper alternative to torches then it'd be fine, however using up a block ID for this doesn't seem worth it in my opinion

would be nice to have different light source... like a metal torch wich is brighter than the wooden torch, a tiki torch that you can hold in hand but get brighter when placed, metal lantern that allow you to change the light intensity and can add special lens to change the color of the light, campfire and brazero

I think [only] equipped torches running down would be quite good. Unfortunately I don't think it's a small change technically, because I think items that support use of durability are not stackable, and getting around that for torches could be a big hassle.

Would the previously places torches disintegrate? Would they be there but unlit? Some of the downsides are if you go back to an area you already were and they went out, you might re-search caves or have to constantly re-light your base. It would make the game more realistic, but to the average player it might be a little too niche? Being able to toggle on/off no matter the mode/settings wouldnt be bad, but a default/unchangeable aspect for certain modes in particular may damper the fun of certain modes
