I can't attack mobs while on a creative world. I have combat turned on and the difficulty on easy. Combat does however work on a survival world. I am on the latest beta release.

I cannot reproduce this. Are you absolutely sure you enabled the "Enable Combat" checkbox? It is by default turned off on creative

you might want to use the new menu to change settings, the old menu is not supported anymore

That worked. So apparently you must set it to "Can Fight [True]"
