It's a desync issue. Youre a client and sometimes minerals will still be there even when mined. Usually more common when joining in mid game. I'd post it in #bug-discussion if you want.

@rare quail scout basically has the highest single target DPS in this game, strongest CC nade in the game, the class that keeps everyone alive because of its mobility, and how self sufficient it can be at mining because you really dont need a engie for platforms. the class that is least needed in haz 5 is gunner. Gunner's main role in haz 5 is just support cause his wave clear is worse than engie and driller, and his single target/mobility is worse than a scout
you probably had really bad scouts
a good scout should be able to 90-100% clear a map of minerals by the time you're done with the objective
a good scout makes a run so much easier and faster, which makes the missions way more efficient

I like to think people play scout because other scouts suck. in a 12 minute PE, i can get 500 minerals mined by the time we are extracting. Scouts excel in single target performance, they do not deal with wave clearing. If the team isn't crying for help, the scout is busy mining.
Strictly speaking of Haz 5 or endgame; Yes, i agree that the shield helps when reviving people, which just makes him a support, yet a good scout can do it much better because of his grappling hook and pheromones. Another driller/engineer can easily replace Gunner for wave clearing cause you don't have all the time in the world to spend sitting there killing 1 or 2 targets at a time. I'm not saying Gunner is bad, but its utility is a bit underwhelming currently. (also, the shield makes him effectively stationary)
One of the main points of the Scout is to Survive, and provide backline support by being available to revive, have phero nades at the ready, take out priority targets because of insane single target damage, and keep nitra reserves up because of how fast a scout can move without a movement speed perk.
I agree, many scouts are not good because of 2 main reasons; they don't understand their role, and they do not know their roles limitations. Or they just suck.
I don't quite well see how a Scout joining will ruin a game. That has to do with the player, not that class.
Imagine playing a mission; you get to the end but you're stuck trying to find the last few booloo cap. A semi decent scout would have already had that completed by the time you get to the last room. Now you're spending extra resources trying to find that last cap, to cover up whatever time you lost because you were too busy wave clearing and trying to path to the objective at the same time.

It was a pretty bad mission.
We had like 10+ spitballers, slowed us down, so we were always running low on ammo and health, and the next swarm was always nearby.

'Im the best.' — literally the worst carry scout to revive mates to make them almost instantly die after that. I would do a lecture how not to die after revival and increase time before every next revive so the can think about their mistakes. If it's still too many deaths I would be about to abort the mission as reviving simulator or watching how others play is not fun.

Yeah, it was a mission that we really should have aborted or lost, but we decided to see how far we could push it, since it was fun to try and survive.
It was a more casual group, not used to haz5, hence why there where so many downs (and iron will bug doubling each count)
We started off the mission, got slowed down by like 10 spitballers, massive caves etc. So we barely had ammo and health.
Oh it gets better, Im fairly sure this was back when health share on revive was on. So nobody had more than a shred of health lmao.
Oh yeah, no lures, no pheromones. Those hadn't been added in.

@lean quarry it's not really useful now, on experimental you could blow plasma bolts with axes and it was exploding right into enemies in front of you dealing to them about 240-250 damage (I don't remember the exact number), it was good alternative to flying nightmare, furthermore it allowed to mine any ore and minerals cause for 5 fuel units you got the explosion similar to detpack sizewise
now you need to stand at 30 or more meters to make it work with regular shot following charged one
