I'm having a couple of issues when I try to play cross-play with my friends on Xbox. For one thing, the door to the drop pod in the Space Rig only opens for the host, and not for anyone else. The players who arent the host have been getting kicked from the game with a "multiplayer session ended" message, but the host stays in the mission just fine. The PC players also hear other PC players through the game, even while talking in Xbox Game Bar party chat, which is the only way to talk to the Xbox players. Anyone know a fix for any of these? I've tried resetting both my PC and game, and had different people host the game
There's also no mute option for players, so we can't actually mute them to deal with hearing other people through the game

I've been going at them as a duo for the last few weeks. I think with the nerf to some perks during the perk overhaul, like Iron Will, and the speed improvements to the bugs, have greatly decreased our odds of success. With a trio of dwarves it's been considerably easier. The # of enemies seems only marginally increased for the extra dwarf, but our firepower increases dramatically by comparison, not to mention the added abilities of another class

Good question. My friend and I didn't hear a single person today. I don't know if they were muted/lack of mic or just chose not to, but we encounter about 7 - 8 random players and had no voice chat with any. My friend and I usually use discord, so if they were talking in-game we would have heard them (if everything is indeed working correctly)

Once upon a time the roadmaps hinted that there could even be a new class at some point. That is very old, very outdated plan, but it means at least some thought has gone into it. One of the more recent roadmaps discussed new mission types in the works for post-1.0

@small sierra No, but they have expressed interest in doing it when a way to get Microsoft accounts talking to Steam accounts becomes a thing. Microsoft has also expressed an interest in enabling this, but as far as I know there hasn't been any additional discussions about it. I believe other titles that have cross-play with Steam use a third-party account, so we would need to make (and GSG would need to create and have servers for) a new DRG account to enable cross-play at this time, as far as I'm aware

You can disable the microphone through the app settings on Windows. There should be a incoming chat volume slider in-game. Drop pod door sounds like a new issue, could use a wormhole special to get inside, but you could also just wait. A plugin for UWP has stopped being updated so it causes a ton of bugs with multiplayer connection especially with peer to peer. The only way that you can manage to join a game cross platform is to have everyone restart their game and use game invitations or public sessions until it works, maintaining a connection is likely host based, but maybe not.

Since other developers (Microsoft?) stopped updating that plugin to solve issues like this.

+1 More for the drop pod door bug, however I don't think the drop pod door is the cause, but a symptom of a larger bug. If I am in the game with cross-play friends as a mission is starting, if I am not the host, the door will be closed and I get kicked with the message "multiplayer session ended". When I am the host everything is fine for me but my friend gets kicked with the message "multiplayer session ended". I've tried join the same game after it been started and have tried to join a different mission of theirs, only to receive the same "multiplayer session ended" message shortly after loading in. I've even tried joining their game off of the mission list with the same results. All of us have reinstalled the game with no improvements. This is specifically when cross-playing windows with xbox.

I don't know if my Xbox is old or something but my audio in general bugs out, stuttering, glitches. It happens both through tv speakers and my headset. It seems lag-related, when lots of particles are flying around or someone joins. It's very minor

I totally understand. Not that this is a great solution, but on PC you can transfer your save between Steam and Microsoft Store versions, so if you happen to acquire the MS Store version to play with your cousin, you can keep all of your progress

Basically it would be possible for them to make crossplay between steam and Xbox version, but it would take a massive amount of work to totally rebuild the net code of both versions, so it’s something they don’t have the capacity to do yet

The texture stretching is weird
I had it happen during the 2nd deep dive stage and after I completed it I didn't see it happen in any other matches
Before 1.0 I've had the texture stretch just randomly fix itself during the game

The thing that makes me hate this bug the most is it feels inconsistent, sometimes it only glitches a small area of the map, but other times it's so bad it covers the entire map and makes the game basically unplayable. The only way to "fix" it during a game is to find whatever wall/object is stretching and break it with a pickaxe/explosion, if you're lucky enough to find the source.

Microsoft Store uses UWP, and the Unreal Engine plugin used to develop UWP is no longer maintained for the newest version of Unreal Engine the game uses

@gentle abyss That’s probably why you’re having difficulties. My Xbox is an original as well and I experience them some-what often. I normally try to fix it by literally fighting fire with fire. Or after match try resetting the game.

and then change that name to something else as a backup. Last, change the Windows Store file name to be the copied Steam save file name. If works in either direction as long as you rename the files correctly

Hello! We have a friend trying to join our game [edit] but he can't. Every time he attempts to join, he gets the message "mulitplayer session ended." We are crossplaying through Windows Store, but the issue is with one of the PC users. He cannot join any type of game: private/public, ours or not. Is there anything we can do? We've been at it for an hour. He uninstalled and reinstalled already.

@jaunty grail One thing to try is have everyone exit and close the game completely, and then everyone restarts within a few minutes of each other. Host sends invites, and everyone makes sure they're loaded all the way into the game (able to run around) before accepting the invites
When my friends and I do this, it works about 95% of the time. When it doesn't work the first time, try again, and maybe have everyone reboot PCs and Xboxes
One thing I just thought of last night, is to make sure everyone on Windows is on the most recent semi-annual Windows version, currently Version 1909

Yes. We were actually playing it on Steam not long ago but refunded it and bought it on Windows Store to crossplay

Gotcha. The Windows Store version, due to Microsoft's UWP requirements at the time, is not exactly the same as the Steam version. The trouble is DRG moved to a newer version of the Unreal Engine, but the UWP plugin for Unreal Engine that allows the devs to create the UWP Windows Store version is no longer being maintained and is not up to date with the new version of the engine. This has been identified as the source of a lot of the issues that the Windows Store and Xbox versions have that the Steam version doesn't have. It's being worked on, and improvements we're made for 1.0, but there's still more work to be done
I'm sorry I can't give too much better advice. I've had pretty consistent crash issues in certain biomes (that seem to be better in 1.0), but I've only had minor connection issues that are fixed by having everyone exit and restart at pretty much the same time
The only thing left for me to suggest is to make sure your friend is on the newest version of Windows 10, version 1909, and that he's checked for update in the Microsoft Store to make sure Game Services and Game Bar and such are up to date

I usually let my Xbox friend host, because I would crash to desktop pretty consistently in Crystalline Caverns when electric crystals were present, and crash in Magma Core, but those crashes seem to be greatly reduced by 1.0

Only thing I can suggest is make sure everything is up to date: Windows, graphics drivers, etc. and have everyone reboot before playing. Also perhaps reboot routers before playing. And make sure Windows firewall is turned ON

Both of you exit the game to the desktop. Then start the game within a few minutes of each other. Then only join by invite once you are completely loaded back in and can move around

Try having your Xbox friend invite you to their lobby, then accept the invite immediately after clicking "fix it" in the Xbox Networking Game settings page. Worked for me 100% of the time, but occasionally I would disconnect from the lobby. It's a dodgy workaround, but it's all I have for now. Very upsetting that this is an issue

I have a problem, where every time I try to get on a public server, it just disappears, I can try several times and nothing, it also happens that I can't follow or accept invitations from my friends, besides sometimes not showing up, when I rarely accept it, '' multiplayer session ended '' appears, all of that happens with my 2 friends too, I'm really frustrated with that. I spent the whole day trying to solve this, I hope they fix it.

Oh boy, I see this chat has now become even more of a "multiplayer session has ended" channel than before, lol. I guess that is what happens with full release.
I would recommend checking out the pin, but to summarize it, one of the plugins to help solve these issues is no longer updated by whatever developer team (not GSG), which has lead to a lot of connection / session issues for these builds of DRG. The solution is something along the lines of make the game not on UWP because it sucks for many reasons.

On Xbox when we select a mission we can't select Join like on steam where it shows only lobbies for that specific mission, so we have to open the full list...that is slow and it keeps crashing my game on Xbox one X.

Regarding the server list issue, sometimes if you go to the menu and disband (even though you're by yourself) and reload the space rig, it will fix any server list loading problems. This has been my experience at least.

I have a question, if someone could answer, I've been away for a while on a research project for college, and I just got back and saw the announcement about how if we signed on to the game during a certain week, and we had bought the game early access, we could get all the special wardrobe items. Been playing Steam version like a dream, me and a buddy nab it to play together on the Xbox as well and we both just run into a dozen different issues with loading, joining eachother, performance, and crashing.

DRG now uses an updated version of Unreal Engine, but the Unreal Engine UWP plugin needed to make the Xbox and Windows Store versions is no longer being updated. It's causing unpredictable issues, but the devs are working on it

Yeah, I've seen a lot of folks reporting similar. I haven't been able to figure out why we hardly have any trouble
When we have time, we get in right away and play for hours. The worst of it was when I used to crash in certain biomes, but even that seems better now
We have a few things we try, like exiting the game and relaunching at the same time, and if that fails rebooting Xboxes and PCs, but it usually just works. A few things we noticed were you have to join from an invite (unless the lobby is set as not private) and you can't accept an invite unless you're already loaded into the game and able to run around on the space rig

I’ve played on Xbox since 2018 and it use to work perfectly that was until sometime in late 2019 where my friends started to disconnect a lot and crash but after a month or so it worked fine again then a few updates later it starts happening again but worse causing my friends not ever wanting to play it. The game is now released and we are still getting. The weird thing is that my game has worked perfectly and has never disconnected or crashed once where there games always do and also what is weird is that if they host instead of me their games work so much better but still may sometimes crash. It really annoying because I really want to play it but they don’t because they think it’s broken. I thought it might be because I play on a Xbox one x and they just play on original Xbox ones

Around the middle of 2019 there was an update that left the Windows Store and Xbox versions pretty much unplayable for about 2 months, but since then the only issues I've had was crashing to desktop in Crystalline Caverns and Magma Core biomes, and I haven't had any of those crashes since 1.0

I would say since launch their games crash less but disconnecting or the game just absolutely freaking for them and can’t move because they have fell through the map still happens quite a bit so I’m just hoping if one of them host it should work much better and they continue playing it.

Hi everyone ! First of all I would like to congratulate all the devs for the amazing effort in bringing that game both on PC and Xbox, must have been a hard work. Also the game is great, we have so much fun with my friends, we live in France and must stay at home because of the current situation. This game allowed us to keep in touch and to pass time more quicky 😄
We want to share our recent experience with v1. We are really struggling with a lot of bugs (texture stretching, crash, trouble joining servers etc.) that makes the game experience poor and annoying. We know that it's not your fault and we can certainly understand that you may have other priorities, that's why we want to help you in solving those issues. If we can in any way send you crash reports, details or anything just let us know 🙂 we see you are using Jira, but the steps to reproduce the bugs are hard to explain as it seems to be random
Our major problem is with deep dives, we can't make them as we always have one player kicked out of the game during phase two and he can't rejoin, sadly 😦

Merde! those issues are very high priority for us, and we are working on the texture bug, and issues with joining servers, but since they are very complicated or require 3rd party systems, it is taking us a while to fix. If you can describe your issues with joining servers and a bit of details about the crashes you have had, that would help! 🙂

Awwh man did a solo deep dive last night was killing it, really dope fun then found...the black box...on essentially a narrow bridge, mactera plague.. Pretorians everywhere...died 3 times 😂 2 and a half hours down the drain but I still had fun! I'll never again look at such an undefendable position like it's nothing!

Hi ! I have exactly the same issue as @young pewter. We are a group of three with two playing on PC via the Microsoft Store and one playing on the XBoxOne (and he is hosting from it).
Here are some issues we're having :
- The game crashes on PC often, for both me and my other friend who is also playing on PC. I have nothing to provide, the game just freezes for no reason.
- The most frustrating bug that we have, is a collision problem when landing in a drop pod at the start of each mission. Sometimes, me and my friend playing on PC are stuck inside the drop pod, unable to move or do anything (this bug never showed on xbox). I think that it happens because the game substracts values to the Z coordinates as the drop pod is descending. If the game misses frames, the Z coordinates is not substracted and thus, we end up higher than the floor of the drop pod. Hosting player could send the final Z coordinates when the drop pod is fully landing, or something like that. An easy fix I think, that would save every other game for us. Landing with style is cool, being able to get out of the drop pod is better
- Because of this, we can't do deep dives mission, as the games always crashes at least once before phase 3. Hence we have never finished a single deep dive mission (even before the version 1.0).
General bug : when the game crashes for one player, that player cannot join back the server, as he won't be able to see the server in the list of available servers. If that happens, both PC players need to exit the game, and the xbox player has to disband the team and create a new server. Only then the PC players will be able to see the xbox server.
Btw, can you consider adding filters to the available servers list? It is a mess finding one in particular, as the list is constantly refreshing. Ordering by player name would be enough. Filtering by player name would be perfect.
Beside that, the game is insane, I'm only posting in hope of being able to play again 🙂

The only bug I had on the Xbox One is the game crashing (with something about video card memory, I don't remember as it was juste once and couldn't take a picture) and the texture glitch that seems to be known
Nevertheless my friends on PC often struggle to join or get kicked, as @ivory current says

we have fixed some issues that should help today, but i dont know if that solves the exact problems your having with joining and getting kicked, but it could be.
in terms of getting stuck, ive tried it where it fixed itself after a bit and i could move again. We are lookin into a real fix too
