But the people suggesting that the game should be available to all immediately are likely not too concerned about the game developing into the best version it could be. It's just "I want to play now", not really help.

If Everything was shared, it might be more problematic, but you still have control over your gun upgrades and biobooster choices, which is generally more impactful than the upgrades themselves

it also makes sense for those ones to not be shared since they pertain specifically to the weapon and class youre using

Yep. The more-team oriented stuff like guns & perks is from group selection, while the more character-focused stuff like Bio-Boosters are able to be collected alone.

I have experience playing games with people that turn every game into a DPS dick measuring contest, and I think that's the crowd that are mostly upset about the shared upgrade system. How dare people get in the way of them getting the best DPS upgrade in the pool every time?

yeah risk of rain co op runs sometimes devolve into seeing who ends up getting the god run

there some strategy to leaving items for other players, but for the most part, players build independently of each other

i remember when i used to make minecraft minigames, I made one called disaster star and it very much had that multiplayer but not co op thing

you all shared a goal of surviving, and working together to stay alive would make sense, but I did make it players could win and loose independently of each other

Basically the same as a point extraction mission that went on too long, enemy spawns become maximal, except unlike DRG, we have limited AOE clear options and can't call resupplies at will. So it's an actual death sentence if you're not already in the process of leaving
