Tell me about how to get started making one, I don't have a sewing machine so is it even possible by hand?

It is possible to do it by hand, althrough it's harder to get something clean.
The fabrics:
Toyknit (doll skin fabric) for the body and the clothes
(ideally velboa fused with toyknit) generally Minky or minky fused with toyknit for the hair
whatever you want for the clothes in fact, try to use what is the most easily accessible or what would render the best

You could also use Etsy or Nbeads for specific accessories

You can start by making easy stuff like fumo skirt.
Hand sewing can be daunting but is definitely possible.
