Despite me setting my deformer to the head, whenever I alter it the entire model spins. Can someone help?

Spins? Do you have a rotation deformer as a child of that deformer?

What deformer are you using? And how is your hierarchy set up?

I recommend watching some tutorials but you can see in the deformer panel that several body parts are under Head z rotation deformer so those will all be affected.

basically, you put everything under a rotation deformer
so then everything rotated..
