#Psd/texture replacing is not working??

so im basically remaking a friends model, i only changed some things with the art and want to replace those parts now, i renamed them in live2d bc they were just layer32 and stuff so now its like arm_L , ect ect
i made sure that the names of the textures i want to replace with the new ones are the same (name and ID are the same too) . but whenever i import the new psd, instead of replacing it, it just adds the new pngs and puts a 2 at the end of the IDs instead of just replacing them. why is that?
what can i do about it? why is it not replacing the textures?

if nobody knows why, can someone just tell me how to like copy/replace and artmesh instead?? i really dont want to rerig the whole body if theres already an alright body that just needs its textures replaced..

I'm confused, does the new PSD have names that match the CURRENT layer names or ORIGINAL layer names

robust bolt

first step is you to clean your project tab so it only shows the psd's you have on the model
later on you had to replace only the psd you want to replace, you need to make sure you edited the original psd on the original layers without merging them to other layers or changing the names to avoid any no-match

in the worst case it doesnt work you can manualy replace the not-matched layers

sour meteor
#

yeah that's why it doesn't work

#

or at least one of the reasons

#

live2d matches against PSD data not editor data

#

the only original file that i have is the live2d file

robust bolt
#

you didnt saved a copy of the psd??

by default project tab is next to part/deform tabs, if not go to menu>windows>project tab

keikuconfused people who don't do backups of things like these scare me

#

PSDs arent even big files in the first place, what was there to clear up

robust bolt
#

in this game, who are you? the client, the rigger ?

lapis grove
#

i only have the psd which is the new one with the newer textures (everything does line up tho, i spent hours puzzling the original psd together again)

yeah I have a whole backup of all the Live2D files on an external drive too LOL

robust bolt
#

wait. so if you are not the rigger, can you contact the original rigger? it should have the original psd

#

i mean, the rigger NEEDS the original psd to do the first rig you have right now 🤔

lapis grove
# robust bolt ... i am confused by this a lot so you are the client?

no, this is for my friends birthday, she basically (the artist has improved now and everything) got a throwaway model for like 200USD?? very messy rigging and art which is why i decided to retexture it for her birthday

(i already rerigged the whole face because it was impossible to work with but the body rigging is like good enough)

the MAIN issue of not having the original psd is the reason you can not replace them correctly,
IF the new psd is exactly same settings, you maybe can manualy replace each layer one by one

robust bolt
#

well then you have 1 option

lapis grove
#

also yea, i'll just replace the layers manually then, the body doesnt have as many parts

#

how do i do this?

robust bolt
#

first
you will had to drop the new psd and register without adding

#

this will register all layers but will NOT create them

lapis grove
#

im happy she allowed me to edit her art in the first place

robust bolt
#

second, you go to project tab
you will found there the original psd and your new psd
you will select a layer on the model
go to the new psd, right click the corresponded layer and select the option that say something like "set input for selected artmesh" or something like that

lapis grove
#

lmao first model to have three artists as a parent?!?!?!?! (me, my friend, the original artist)

robust bolt
#

also remember to ask for a written permission of the artist for the edits of the art <_<

lapis grove
robust bolt
#

👌

lapis grove
#

doing the steps rn one second

#

oh also
just for the funsies, dropping this off here

robust bolt
#

well it looks like you should be able to replace like half the model, the other pieces looks pretty diferet 🤔

lapis grove
#

yeah, majority of it is still the same besides the whole head including the hair

robust bolt
#

the only piece i saw to be the same was the bottom plain part of the skirt lol all the rest looks diferent lol

robust bolt
#

project tab

lapis grove
#

yeah where is that

robust bolt
#

can you take a picture of your live2d?

lapis grove
#

(already added the hair since these are all supposed to be new meshes anyway)

robust bolt
lapis grove
#

OOHH ty i didnt know you meant that

lapis grove
robust bolt
#

no

lapis grove
#

create new model with psd file then?

robust bolt
#

can you take a picture of the options?

lapis grove
robust bolt
#

there should be one that is similar to replace or set as input or something

#

oh ok

lapis grove
#

after that there is

robust bolt
#

select the model then
register without adding

lapis grove
#

okay i did that

#

still confused tho bc no matter what layer i click, nothing happens?? its really confusing

#

nvm i got it

robust bolt
#

now, you select the layer you want to replace on the model
then, go to the new psd in project tab, look for the corresponding layer
right click and select an option that say something similar to "set as input of selected artmesh" or replace selected

lapis grove
#

yesss tyty

#

what does this method do? as in, do i need to know or remember anything for like loading the texture atlas / ect ?

robust bolt
#

what this method do?
replace the texture of the model with a new texture

lapis grove
#

okey if its just that then it makes sense

#

thank you !

robust bolt
#

what i reocmend you is that once you finish

#

from bottom to top, right click each folder then each psd on project tab, and delete unused

#

this is to clean the storaged information in the file
