Hey! Could use some help understanding draw order as I know it’s important but the tutorial I’m using kinda just brushed over it. Would appreciate a template of what should be where in draw order or some explanation!

This is my first time using the program so bear with me! (I’m using the full version on the new alpha so beware bugs) 31

Yes I know this probably has been asked 1000% times before but I can’t get a good jumpstart/template on what to do

Draw order is like the layer hierarchy, higher the number the more on top the layer will show up. Like a 501 draw order layer will show above a 500 draw order layer. You can use draw order to change the hierarchy of the layers in a parameter, like to make a like “go down or above”

So the nose for example would be 501, eye whites 502, etc

Most of times you don't even need to touch draw orders at all. You'll be fine leaving most of them in default 500

#

Draw orders are only necessary if your rig calls for reordering the layers by parameter (for example if you want to create a hand animation that goes from back of your body to the front)

Some people like to label their layers with draw order some people don't, but the general rule of thumb if you plan to is

  • Start from 1000 for the top layer
  • Subtract 10 for subsequent layer (or 5 if you have a lot of layers)
  • Items with shared layer in space (i.e. REye, LEye) share the same number
