Is there any mmo game that even has good underwater combat though?
There will be underwater dungeons as well. However, what kind of underwater will it be, we have no idea. It could be a cave underwater with an oxygen bubble.
GW2 is the only with underwater combat I believe.

Yep, Intrepid only gives dates when they are certain they can hit them now. The backlash and REEEEE in the past when dates have not turned out due to various circumstances is just not worth it.

Hmmm...didn't see the exchange. The best ways are to watch #news for pings and of course the monthly streams. They are in that middle grind period of getting stuff done. Sort of like mid-range levelling in an mmo. Lots of work and occasional payout.

Do we know what the naming functionality will be ? Just a standard 1 word, no spaces name? Or will last names also be part of the naming convention.

Has Steven or any other Dev discussed what fishing will be like in the game? And by "like", I mean will it be a mini-game or something new. MMO's fail at this so badly that other developers have gone as far as creating "Fishing MMO's", just to give the player's a more challenging experience when it comes to fishing. I know it's early in the game, but I have to ask if it's going to be complete shit like every other MMO. I just want some insight if anyone can provide it. Thanks

No, not a separate game, but along the lines of "you have to know how to fish". Kind of like, if you went fishing in real life and have to know the location of a species, the baits preferred or lures, and tackle to use for predatory vs non predatory fish. Basically, I'm asking if you know if fishing will be more action based and not a "WASD" mini-game.

There may be different types of fishing:[6]
- Smaller game fishing that does not require much thought.[6]
- Deep-sea fishing will have specific player mini-game requirements and equipment (such as expensive lures).[6][7][8][9]
- Coastal/lake fishing will be less interactive than deep-sea fishing.[7][8]
That's as far as we know, for now.
Yeah, I saw that. I don't like the fact that it's separated into small game, deep-sea and coastal lake. It should just be fishing. Some fresh water smaller fish are harder to catch than deep-sea fish. Example: Brook trout vs Ling Cod. Brook trout are the pickiest eater's of the trout family which makes them harder to catch and ling cod will bite a bare hook. That should be changed.
They have some ideas and will implement them for testing in alphas. We'll see what they have in mind. Maybe we'll see more once A1 comes out.
To be different as an MMO, I think they should shoot for this.
But with less bugs.. lol

Since gunpowder won't exist in the realm of AoC. I doubt you'll be able to fulfill the cowboy dream
Additionally, don't get massively invested in the idea of RPing in AoC. I'm not saying it can't be done, but without dedicated RP servers (which are currently not planned) RP attempts will likely be disrupted. A lot.

But as others have said, they have no plans for black powder weapons and their attempt so far at a "gun" was put on a "maybe" status.
Has there been problems in other MMO's where RPers and other players can't get along in terms of their playstyle.
Because I played ESO for a good while and they have RP guilds in replacement for an RP server. Obviously the two playstyles collide at some point or another.
And Cowboy was the outlandish RP character. I think they only way they can incorporate guns is as a cosmetic for rangers or mages. If even possible lol
yeah but with eso there is a specific pvp zone so interruptions wont happen as often. in aoc as far as i know you're fair game so long as you arent in a town or city 😛

One would expect that anything involving accessories and gemstones would require the mining gathering profession.

Quarriors are able to be domesticated and used on Freehold farms to gather gemstones from the ground using their long tongues. These gems suffuse into the creature's shell, where they can be removed by their owners. Removing the gems allows the quarrior to continue to eat.[6]

Quarriors specifically? No. They were a cosmetic on sale in 2018. What you can assume is that there will be a similair creature that serves the same function that is not a cosmetic skin.
This is most likely what Steven mentioned on the interviews with having a sense of community and player-driven market in the world.
One can harvest the gems with the animal husbandry and can sell the gems to a jeweler for them to craft and either sell back or put in their shop
Would you have to use the caravan system if you want to move animals you want to sell?

Anything like additional sets of animations for characters (alternative walk cycles, move sets for the same weapons) hasn't been mentioned yet. While this is a guess, I'm going to say probably not.
ESO has something similar. Could be interesting.

In Skyrim you need to add new animations via mods...

Yeah for sure, that hopefully won’t be in the game. Just mentioned it. If private Modders can create new animations, there should be a way to ad this feature (eg via cash shop) into the game

Whats stopping a guild or faction or coalition of guilds to monopolizing the cities and jacking up taxes to prevent others from getting ahead or challenging them?
There are multiple factors that make that unlikely.
Factor A) The maximum size of any given guild is three hundred members, and that's if the guild spends a considerable amount of it's upgrades on increasing it's member cap. Given that each server will have a population cap of 10,000 active players, that's just not enough to monopolize even a decent number of nodes.
Factor B) The various election methods of the different governments also make this very impossible. Guilds won't have a good way of guarnteeing this monopolization outside of Economy Nodes, where votes are purchased. In Military Nodes, the mayor will be decided via a free for all tournament (through champions) for example.
Nothing is stopping them from taking control of a few nodes I think, but you can just work on a node in a different part of the world if it's a problem
Node taxes are for nodes only. Cannot be withdrawn for personal uses.

You pay the difference.
You pay the difference, and you unlock the ability to purchase other cosmetic items peice mail instead of in packs.
You also get the cosmetics (and other stuff) from the pack that you upgrade to, but only the type of cosmetic item that you do not already own from the lower tier pack that you've already bought.

Can classes be built in atypical builds? Such as a tanky mage or rogue?
@unique locust It is possible to have a class that can be a tank and have mage augments to their tank skills.

All we currently know about the classes is that you pick a primary archtype which sets your build and skills, and a secondary archtype that gives you augmentations that modify your skills. One of the offered examples we've been given is a Tank that has a bullrush skill. If he takes mage as his secondary, that skill could have a teleportation augment that immediately moves you to the target as if you blinked instead of rushing.
Is there a stealth mechanic in the game besides the Rogue/Assassin class? Such as a crouch to sneak mechanic. And if there is, how does it work? My only real comparison is ESO's stealth mechanic in both PvE and PvP.
The Rogue has a stealth ability, and taking Rogue as your secondary will allow you to add stealth augments to other skills. That's all that's known at this time.

there will be spider monsters in the world, we dont know how much. Steven did say that he understands that some people have arachnophobia, so they will take it into consideration

Hi there, a quick question about the store. Im really wanting to invest into this game and currently you have the fire themed items in the store but I cant afford the top pack right now. Am I able to buy the Wayfarer Pack with the fire set then upgrade the pack to Voyager Plus later and it will include the full fire set?

By the time the game comes out, more people will have Win10 probably but there is still a huge demand for Win7 support out there (especially in the eastern world but also people who dislike Win10). And most game studios still support Win7 to my knowledge except those publishing under Microsoft (Age of Empires/ Halo)

you might have a "tiny bit" better proficiency with certain weapons for certain classes (example: Rogue-archetype based classes might benefit better from daggers due to backstab bleed mechanics) but nothing is locked

A mage might prefer a Staff or Scepter because of the stats it provides which benefit spell casting or spell usage, but they are not required to use it

The system combat we have seen until now will be definitive? I mean static, boring combat consists in spamming skills like WoW. I would like to see enemies that dodge, defend themselves, fight back like in New World. In short, I would like to see a challenging combat system, an AI with many mechanics and whose difficulty forces you to generate strategies, that is, to use your brain.
What do you think?

Currently you can't buy into the alpha 1 access that starts this fall. They said they MIGHT re-open the sales for it if they need more people and the servers are stable enough but it's not guaranteed

Hehe, been waiting for mine for about 2 weeks now to. But ah well.. not to worried myself. The game is still far away and while right now it is taking very long, due to the fact that they actually pay attention to every single ticket it will only mean the tickets will get handled correctly instead of simply a copy paste message which will end up to probably only having half your issue fixed 😛

Can someone tell me more about caravan system? Is it only about transporting item and auction/stalling them? There is no "standard" trading where you buy items from 1 place and sell it to another place for X "gold" ?
So, if I recall it was mentioned that you could end up serving the evil gods in some way or another. What all would that involve, as I'm kinda interesting in being "evil" but if I have to be a dick to other players I'm not sure it'd be worth it.
And in general, what kind of effects would being evil get me? Are there tangible upsides and downsides?
Can't find any clear information about this either and would refrain from assuming it is only about griefing and becoming corrupted.
Maybe if certain quests are failed more often, bringing consequences for failing and opening a path for evil. But at this point, we need more infos

i imagine being evil can trigger certain events in certain areas in the world and if a clan whose focus is being evil gets powerful enough i imagine there would be a major event they could trigger to cause devastation. That seems to be the vibe from the videos how most of the cycles for everything go

Mobs won’t really drop “trash” that u just vendor the item that mobs drop are like pelts or bones, and those are all usable resources
You will rarely see bound items so anything can be traded
Caravans are used to transport a large number of goods to another node
If most of players are max lvl, and most common items you need are potions, ppl will buy them from guild member because they are all going to be in same area. Now if ppl want something extra, like very good crafted weapon, how you gonna buy it if you dont have money? Just curious what is going to happen with economy when there is 99% of max lvl ingame.

Also, They are wanting to keep low level materials in circulation by those low level materials needed for higher end stuff. Also, dungeons/raids will be changing all the time. New dungeons you might want different gear/weapons/enchants for that dungeon to maximize your efforts in that area. So yes, there could potentially be a cap where everyone has the best in slot gear - but I highly doubt that'll happen. @opaque cradle
With being able to craft gear just as good as what you would find in dungeons, I'm guessing that you (or someone that wants you to craft for them) would still need to complete the dungeon to get the materials required to craft the item? Or is the material for specific gear not tied to specific dungeons
We don’t know for sure but there might be specific pieces for specific gear

As far as I know players drop a certain percentage of raw materials when you kill, so you can 'thieve' players by killing them. As for NPCs I couldn't tell you.

Since each server will have 10k active players. So the chances of having a server with streamers might be too high.
Idk, losing materials because you quite literally have no chance of survival against a litany of players all zerging.. sounds like a real problem.

If you don't fight back, that group can become corrupted. If they are corrupted, they drop 4x their materials when killed and a chance to lose items. If you fight back, you lose a smaller portion of your gear.
Playing in a PvP world, you can't stop being steam rolled by multiple people if they want to steam roll you with multiple people. Best bet would be to run around with friends to help curb their bloodlust. Or enjoy the mayhem and slaughter them all!

So a friend asked me about Ashes and brought up a good question, what’s to stop a mega guild with a bunch of sister guilds or top tier streamer with 1000’s of followers from controlling an entire server and all the nodes and content there of ?

We aren't sure how they are going to manage the launch of the game and guild reservations. Also, the other 1000's of players on the server. Lastly, getting that many people to coordinate together would be really rare (albeit super amazing).
Plus, that'd be an interesting dynamic of a 2,000 person guild versus 8,000 players.
When nodes are being attacked you have a declaration period and during that time anyone can sign up to attack a node, so even if a large guild wanted to zerg they might not get all of their zerg in to attack, and on top of that node sieges are capped at 200v200 i think they said and aiming for 250v250 max on release @quick thorn and then after that if they fail there is a cooldown so u can not repeatly attack and wear them down
Castle siege is 250v250 and they are hoping to get that to 500 v 500... the regular node siege we do not know cap number for yet.. if there is a cap.
As always things can change as the Alpha testing periods progress.
Theoretically there are already fair systems to prevent zergs, but ye we'll have to wait and see :p

If you want to be a massive zerg guild, you need to break apart into an alliance, for example. Some design balance basically

I was a big fan of WoW's 3v3 arena format for over a decade. I'm not looking for a carbon copy of course but there's something endearing about having your small band of comrades and climbing the ladder.

So an ideal guild may be a smaller one specced into everything capping at 30-50 so they can still do the 40 man dungeon content and have access to everything.

So i can see that one of the potential benefits within guild progression is passive skills. I'm guessing if this is implemented that there will be a hard cap on the amount of passive skills a guild can provide its players?

Its too early to tell but if u dont spec into Guild Size u can spec into everything else, its kind of what works for your guild, but until we see any of those benefits itll be hard to tell

That just doesn't seem very fun at all. Will there be a way to fast travel to dungeons at least? Because if you've spent a huge amount of time travelling somewhere to complete a dungeon, you aren't exactly going to keep playing and move away from the location if someone has to log out

Well I've asked two questions one of which i got an answer to regarding a scientific node in which i asked a follow up question (googled the answer and scientific nodes wont help a whole lot if there isnt a scientific metropolis with vassal nodes near where you are)

Since vassals count as allies, they cannot register to attack as far as I've seen it. (could be construed as they cannot attack the parent nodes allies)

@dawn wyvern Just stating incase u dont know, most dungeons in the game will be open world, so u wont necessarily need a tank available on hand if there are other groups in that dungeon 🙂

So you might just be able to bum a carry off another group so long as you deal damage to the bosses or follow your role as required.

Perhaps i am misunderstanding the content but if it is open world what is the point in calling it 8 man etc. If heaps of groups may be in the dungeon at the same time dealing damage to the same bosses

They sent you there to look for a guild suitable for you. CTRL+F crafting will do.
You can just read a bunch of guild recruitment msgs see which you like best then join a few discords and see which works out best for you

@burnt mist You are able to join a large guild or a big alliance if you are in a smaller guild to combat other large sized guilds/alliances. There are already things in game to support players to handle that
If you are asking about solo players, the game isn't really being built around solo players, although they will be able to find a niche for sure.
My worry is that if a large guild gets large enough to properly dominate (without significant resistance), players might leave the game. One example of this happening was Archeage, a few major guilds on Kyrios (the server) kept everyone else out of regular content and the game started haemorrhaging players.
You mentioned the remedy yourself, build a significant resistance. Also, guilds are limited to a max of 300 players, alliance 1.2k, and then alliances could work together if need be but that is a lot of coordination.
Large guilds will probably be able to dominate certain dungeons at times, hopefully there is enough content/dungeons that it won’t be much of an issue

Currently the wiki say that you play trough your summons. It does not say anything about other abilites then summoning and doing stuff with the summons

Howdy all. I was just thinking, I'm curious how an mmo focused so heavily on player-driven or player-created content handles lore. At least for those of you who have had a chance to play during super early tests, does it seem like the world of ashes has some meat on its bones? Do quests at least hint at the history of the races prior to coming back to this continent? Or from what you have seen, do you think there's enough to build on? Or is it just enough to get started to build our own world? I think it would be really interesting to have mentions of previous wars or old political structures. Maybe, at some point in the past, a couple of the races didnt get along together so well due to war or a slave trade - or something along those lines. All that said, I believe I remember them discussing how we will (or might) learn more about the "event" that occurred that made all of the races flee to begin with. So I know there's at least something in this world's history to cling to. Just curious if there's more.

Does each summoner subclass have unique summon spells?
They'll each have a unique way to modify the summoner's spells. You don't get any new spells with your secondary archetype, but you could for example get an augment that makes your summon unable to attack but instead pulse healing every x seconds (I invented that, it's not actually a thing)
you dont get new abilities with your second archetype just augments to your current abilites so say your a ranger and your Arrow ability added a short summon of a falcon attacking for extra damage or stun time/interrupt.
I know the Augment system isn't out yet or fully divulged onto us - but do we know if you can augment the same skill more than once?
e.g.
[My expected take on the augment] Rush, Augment it with teleport
[Possible option] Rush, Augment it with Teleport + Fire damage
[2nd possible option] Rush, Augment it with teleport, and have a 2nd Rush with an augment of Fire only

Hard to say at this time, we don't have a lot of info on the augments. It's possible respecing just the augments will be easier then full-switching secondary archetype

@short flint That is correct. The level of corruption is reduced or removed by grinding mobs or through death. The new mechanic of a "pk count" stays with you until removed through a questing system, most likely connected to the religion system that was mentioned early days as a way of reducing corruption.

Crafting has been set up to encourage player interaction. You can raise multiple crafting skills but only "master" one. So, unless something is at level of "mastery" then you could do mid tear stuff alone -- but plan on making friends, it's a MMO.

I am part of a Dünzenkell RP guild, Lords of Dünheim, and to further our RP experience with the world of Verra, we were hoping to get our clans somewhat inline with the lore. Of course, while the lore and that will undoubtedly be released somewhere along the line. I am not however, sure about the state of the Dünir language.
While we have been given a few words here and there, they have been quite quiet on the language front. Looking at the scripts from Dünir ruins or buildings, give the same repeated lines (and poorly placed at that). Does that mean there will be no, or at the very least, little done on this front, or are these placeholders and a deeper version of a lexicon and scripts will be released?

If I remember correctly, that just says 'Intrepid' over and over again.
Also, it's far too early to say what they plan to do language-wise. Everything we know is on the wiki.

Not random, and no stylistic alterations either. It reads very clean. Sometimes when people use the runes they add in a few that mean multiple letters, or have special characters. What they used there is just the 1 to 1 alphabet so far. Which isn't to say they might not add runes for 'ng' 'ee' 'st', but it's not in that pic at least.

With Summoner, will you go out and catch/find babies or eggs for pets to raise? Or will you just be able to just learn it and summon just by leveling up? If the first is true, will some babies/eggs be better than others? For instance, one dragon egg will hatch with high dmg and low hp while the next one dragon egg will hatch with low dmg and high hp. I was a huge Star Wars Galaxies player and imo their beast mastery system pre nge was the best.

This isn't a question but more of a hopeful wishlist item. Many games today don't offer guild audits or exporting the guild roster. To maintain external tools such as discord/vent/ts, etc permissions and so on. Some games have no indication someone left the guild for example. or notes as to why they were booted. I hope that they put a lot of attention into relaying that information to GM's/Officers and have flexible guild ranks so that you can delegate effectively instead of all-or-nothing rank systems.
I haven't seen much on guild management topics, but it's such an important aspect of guild-based games.

It's all dependant on the developer and their vision. If they are testing specific game mechanics, alphas tend to be more focused and shorter duration. Load-balance and networking related alphas generally extend out for months. Betas are often short and a way for the devs to ensure every piece works together as intended when they put features/mechanics together as well as balance issues with skills/classes. This generally doesn't take too long as stated. But there are companies that use alpha/betas as cash cows and over time draw people into them to get funding. Those tend to be more like pre-release "releases".

It was pretty good, I thought. Though it did get a bit shaky when john and steven had a difference of opinions. That was funny, but I side with Steven. Focusing on a specific title for a specific platform is sometimes important otherwise you sacrifice too much for a universal product that just doesn't translate well to other platforms. I'm an old-school gamer like John, and see where he was coming from, but disagree that all games should be created equal because of how players play today. There are different audiences. Steven gets that, John seemed to be coming from a profit standpoint.
Steven was coming from a quality standpoint and that I can get behind.
PC gaming for mmo's just has no equal. You can only do so much on a console and phone and the ui's have to be specific for the device. PC's are MUCH more flexible and should be respected as such. To make a game accessible to all platforms adds many more cycles to development that could be spent adding new content or features tailored to a pc.
But that's what happens when you get multiple designers talking about the "future of mmo's" each has their own theories. Neither is necessarily wrong. It just depends on the vision of a specific title.

I'm Toni from Finland and I used to play few MMOs in my past, I've just recently heard about your inspirational game and its development. I hope you will succeed, thank you for making such a huge risk and not rushing it. It truely feels like you have thought about tons of stuff when it comes to enjoyable MMO experience.
And here's my question for today, so Question Number 1
Ashes of Creation has 8 races to choose from, are there going to be more? I'm not saying it is not enough, but is it possible that the story elements allow to add more races to the world that are far away from the humanoid ones?
I've talked with a few of my friends about race choices they like to make in MMOs or in RPGs in general. Most of them answered: "The farther from the humanoid the better". I also belong to that same category. I usually like to choose the fluffy looking or even Argonian like characters. It's not like I wouldn't play the game without them, but it would give an interesting depth to the world when there are plenty races living together. It would be interesting to know why some races look the way they do and how come those kind of creatures even with fluffy look even exists in the world among the intelligent humanoid folk.
Are you going to bring more races out of inspiration of other games into the game's world? If you don't quite get the picture what I'm trying to draw here, see the list below.

in server do whatever but if u get in game and steal their guild name thats their fault and now u are the proud owner of that guild 🙂

So assuming it goes through, with the potential passive skills you can unlock via your guild, would the heavy armour passive skill stack with the heavy armour skill that a guardian has? Or will it just require the tank to have less points in that skill before it maxes out?
Just wondering if it may be beneficial to have a tanking guild specced into tanking abilities to have an incentive to build a guild like that just so the best tanks might come from a tanking guild that has passives stacked

So just watched the real talk video on combat (on paradox gaming network @simple ether ) my question involving combat at its current iteration is: we’ve seen tab work in the action targeting mode, how does action fare in the tab targeting mode? As far as basic attacks etc.. does the left click turn into pressing 1 for every hit, or do you have to go into action targeting for your action aspects?

So could rain potentially actually nerf fire attacks? And if so would players potentially have the ability to have a skill to create rain to try and nerf a fire boss
Rain/Snow outside of the seasons have not been identified to impact gameplay. I believe the only thing right now that is to impact is just the seasons itself.

@sweet saffron If you wanna discuss this in more detail, i'd recommend the #aoc-discussion - However intrepid studios has stated that they want to deliver a complete game at launch with 100% functionality on of their systems they want implemented. So the timelines will be very "loose" but they won't progress without making sure they are ready for the next "phase".

Will AoC have a level system? Or something else like you level your fireball only when you use it
You earn skill points s as you level and spend those skill points on your skills to obtain them and to level them up to tier 3 so far
The skills themselves do not have xp they only level by using skill points from character levels

@harsh moon Unlikely. I don't know of any game that can use even half the potential of a threadripper without getting bottlenecked.

Yes. The only people who can really make full use of threadrippers are video editing or animation professionals. Your average gamer will never use a threadripper to its full potential
the amount of cores usually doesn't matter for games
they've been getting better at utilizing multiple cores but single core clock speed is still king

A1 was $500. That was closed in 2018. A2 have always been 250 minimum. They'll most likely take it down before A2 starts.

@solemn moss I have already seen a few guild recruitment posts for Spanish speakers in the guild recruitment chat. I am sure youll be able to find other Spanish players to group with
@solemn moss Right now we are only able to officially support English, German, French and Russian, and those are the languages the game will support on release. More languages may be added later but only if there is enough support/demand for them and we can get staff and moderators familiar with those languages to properly support them.

That's correct, you will have a basic attack instead that serves as a "weapon skill"
but it will not auto-attack, you will need to manually attack with your weapon

How will quest progression work in regards of the advancement or (more likely) destruction of a node? For example; Will a quest for the religion in a node be abandoned when that node gets destroyed/downgrades since the religious building/NPC will be gone?
