@primal solstice there are elemental damage and elemental resistances, but it's not yet clear if they will only apply to pvp, or if some pve fights/creatures also have resistances/weaknesses

It'll likely server as a targeting break. but people can still spot you
@proven root pretty much. It breaks force targeting, so if someone had you targeted and you stealth then they'll automatically untarget you, but people that pay attention can still spot you and hit you with action-type skills
I feel like the shimmer is going to work by proximity, the closer you get to the targets sight, the bigger detection chance. And stealth, perhaps, will be undetectable for period of time

Ok makes sense. it would be cool if they could make it alot harder to spot if you stop moving while stealth. It would make it good to ambush, but alot less effective to flee

@proven root I mean, it WILL be a lot harder to spot when it's not moving, our eyes are trained to spot movement, so we'll notice this sort of shimmer much easier if it's moving then if it's staying still

Only test we know about is the one that happened at the end of May/start of June for PI. Every test except the PI one in may/june are under NDA so they can't discuss when they happen or what happens in them.

the current tests are very small scale and not meant as tests for opinions, just to make sure the game actually functions well enough for when they do open up alpha 1
like if it crashes every 15 minutes, that's a problem

@grim venture I can't speak for the company and their decision so that is just what we feel is likely. There is already a LOT of speculations around test phases and release dates around this game so I wouldn't be surprised if they chose to minimize it at this stage. But as TSG says this isn't really the place for such an in depth discussion on Intrepid's practices so I'm going to drop it and if you want to keep talking about it you can head to an other channel ^^

You can tell what ability a class will have by what it's primary is. This is what determines the base skills. Then the secondary will add modifications to those base skills

Question again, will there be chase items/materials/gatherables that are restricted to nodes on lower tiers? This would make items time limited until the node gets back down to t1 and creates a hotspot. If this is not in the game i take credit for that idea 
resources arent directly tied to nodes
nodes that are close to certain resource locations will benefit from their presence though, but the resources will move to another location when they run out

im pretty sure as a node increases in stages the close mobs and gathering nodes to the settlement is the weaker monsters and gatherable unless its just for mobs im not 100% sure
yes mobs do relate to the stage of advancement of their nearby node. resources on the other hand are not related to a node

Too bad, I think it would be cool to have a rare resource only spawn for example on a stage 3 node so there will be ppl going for it and pvp to get that resource
i mean there will still be areas that have more of a certain type say as an example North node has lots of iron, some wood, not alot of herbs then south node had lots of herbs but not alot of iron or wood. i dont think it will be that drastic but you will need to travel either way to find what your looking for as thee isn't any set spawn rotations for the gathering points you just gather one and it will spawn somewhere else randomly either in the node or the world. once again im not 100% sure so feel free to correct me if im wrong thats just the understanding i got from whats been said in interviews and streams.

Follow up question to my earlier one about alpha/beta. Given that we are between alpha zero and pre alpha, how does one get into Alpha one? (I see the early access tiers listed on the site, but I don't think they mention alpha one)
We are in pre-alpha, alpha 0 was ages ago. You can not currently get into alpha 1 which will start in fall, the sales are closed. They MIGHT MAYBE reopen them but that's a shot in the dark. You can however buy a pre-order pack that includes access to either the betas or alpha 2 for when those happen in the future

From what I've seen, this game will heavily depend on the players actions upon the world and the world reacting accordingly. Has there been any news about a main Storyline or will the Game revolve around conquering nodes and acquiring node specific quests along the way instead of a overarching questline that drives the player to conquer more nodes?
There is an overarching storyline, yes.
That being said it isn't a theme park where you are lead from one quest to another. As you explore the world, level up nodes, and do PVX content, you will unlock new quests and new information that will unlock the lore for you and your server

Ah to clarify - purchasing one of the packs available now will NOT allow you to upgrade to the Kickstarter packages, which it sounds like you're mentioning.
The $375 one would be the top tier you would be able to get at this point 
(those Kickstarter packs are no longer available to buy into - our existing Kickstarter members are still able to upgrade though!)
Ah yeah sorry I missed that, the kickstarter stuff is long gone. You could upgrade to the 500$ pack IF they decide to bring it back

What do you think about an group of enemies with random levels? For example: you are lvl 10, the group of enemies you encounter is not fixed lvl 10, but between 8 and 12 at random. So each time you go to the same spot it still feels different.

@jovial slate That is a question for #aoc-discussion. But the level of enemies will not be effected by what level you are. There might be a group of lvl 10 spiders one spot and near ish by there might be lvl 25 bears and/or lvl 4 goblins.

I know steven said the team plans to balance around group combat over solo. But has he mentioned how they plan to approach balancing overall? Example being (x thing becomes super meta and dominates all other forms of play so it gets nerfed, or would they instead prefer to buff the weaker options y and z)

I believe I remember there being a mention of around 10k population on servers. From what I'm able to gather with the interdependent nature of the game mechanics, there's a need for a wide variety of players on each server in order to have a healthy, competitive ecosystem of change. There needs to be a balance of adventure class roles to fulfill the trinity system. There needs to be a relative balance of professions in each of the 3 archetypes for gathering, processing, crafting. There needs to be clergy progressing religions. There needs to be citizens and mayors to progress the strategy of resource sharing amongst nodes & vassals. Players will need to defend & contribute to their homesteads & guild castles.
Where I'm sure players will overlap in many of these ways to some extent, I fear that randomly striking the necessary balance in all of these areas will be like winning the lottery.

Housing is limited by node level and available space in the node. Housing gets more expensive with each level and apartment purchases. So eventually reaches a soft cap where it is no longer sustainable to keep adding people to the node as citizens.

@runic rain there is word on the Wiki of the so called World Manager. From the idea as far as I see it this should work as a guard rail to balance things out a bit. Besides this, exactly the unbalances are what will make the world constantly changing and keep it interesting.

Same layout. Was answered in a livestream. The complexity involved would be waaay to much for such a limited instance. Now the individual buildings built by the mayor may be different. So they would techinically not be the same.

Storage and how it works will be made more clear. But it will be local to that node. Leave 2000 wood in Mistmire and it goes to zero from a siege, lose your wood. You won't be putting 2000 wood in storage in one location and pulling it out 4 nodes over.

They will be of course a rush for nearby city (level 4) to become the next metroplis, and with the huge ZOI of metroplois, they are probably several cities interested in destroying the metropolis
So there is a real estate incentive to destroy metropolis, and also unlocking new PVE content incentive, changing metropolis node type incentive.
and idem for defense incentive. Because the node itself come back to 0, but a city will take it's place so you just have to get from lvl4 to lvl5 to have metropolis services available again so the lack of content or services should not really be a defense incentive (and there is 4 other metropolis anyway).
How does that work by the way, does the ZOI of the metropolis block the XP earning of cities or put them to 0 ? So any progress during a city rush to metroplis is saved or reset when another city become metropolis ?

This might have been answered before, but I just havent seen it yet then. But I was playing Aion like 7 months ago, and in that game, only the "big" guilds was able to do shit. Only big guilds did siege wars, did world bosses, and was then able to do high end pve dungeons cause they got the gear and items to do it, cause their guild got all the good shit. There was no point in making a guild with your friends, cause you wouldnt be able to do anything. Only join the "big" guilds. How will this work in AOC. Is that just the way things work, or will there be systems in place, making sure all content in the game, is actually for everyone, and not just for the guilds attracting more people. @idle siren This is a good question for you π

A small guild can't get 40 people together to do a raid, thats just how things are in MMOs. You wont see all the content unless you're in a guild that can pull off raids of that size or ally with guilds to make up the diffrence.

I know steven said the team plans to balance around group combat over solo. But has he mentioned how they plan to approach balancing overall? Example being (x thing becomes super meta and dominates all other forms of play so it gets nerfed, or would they instead prefer to buff the weaker options y and z)

There is actual testing that needs to go on during alpha 1 and they dont know exactly how long that will take. They are reluctant to release dates they might not meet.

Hi all, I've been watching this game pretty closely for the last year or two and I'm hugely excited for it! I'm a software engineer myself and I've been mulling over the concept of building a web based interactive world map to keep players up to date with information regarding node developments, including current ZOIs, resource and trade routes, siege wars that are active or scheduled to commence etc. My biggest question, and something that I haven't been able to find myself, is if something like this will exist in the game itself essentially making this sort of tool redundant. Does anyone have any info regarding this?
This would also likely tie in with a database of items, quests and such similar to that of wowhead, wowdb etc

@nocturne tide When it comes to mastering professions, you can master 1 of the 3 main lines - Gathering, Processing or Crafting.
You can choose all, but master only (unknown amount) amount in the same branch
After that, you will only be able to master professions in the main line that you choose, but right now we don't know how many individual professions you can master

Got a question regarding nodes: If a node is developed in one corner of the map and reaches highest rank, can a node be developed in the opposite side of the map at the same rank?

As long as it isn't within that stage 6 node, it's possible. 5 nodes can reach stage 6, it depends on the surrounding nodes @hallow torrent

The node has to be the "parent" node in order to advance stages. This means the highest level node will be the first to advance. Once it does go up a stage, the vassal nodes around it can then level up in order

There isn't necessarily a hard cap on housing/citizenship. It just gets more and more expensive respectively the more of each there is. So the price acts as a soft cap

They have not announced an end to kickstarter/summer backer upgrades and they will probably end up being available until at least beta testing starts(just speculation there) . If you have the option to get one of the racial skins be aware that it is not a costume, they actually change your race so you can wear a costume/armor over the skin. Im not sure about the elemental ones specifically but the demon/angel ones have different color options i think.
Hey guys i got a question about the Map overview in-game. Will you be able to see the size and type of a Node on the World map?
As far as I understand it, we won't see the node type on the maps, at least initially. Steven wants to encourage discovery. As for the size.. I don't know. I think it would make sense that we can at least see the borders, but maybe they'll decide against it

As far as I know I don't think it was ever confirmed that you would be able to see the zones of influences on the map. The only thing I know for sure Steven has mentioned that is related to the map is that dungeon entrances will NOT show up on it

Oh for sure! I'm not super worried about it and not having those things isn't a deal-breaker, but it would be super cool.
FFXIV heights aren't bad, but the body customization itself is a bit mediocre. It'd be nice to be able to have less masculine men and more masculine women across all games if people want those types of characters.

I know already that the gear is supposed to be for all races and genders, but can every class put on every weapon? Like a mage can hold a sword and get all benefits of it? or will there be restrictions.
mostly yes. there may be some restrictions for abilities (ie shield bash requiring a shield to be usable) but there are no restrictions being placed on weapons based on class.

true, i hope it is balanced well as in games like ESO pvp is highly favoured towards Heavy armor even with passives incentivizing light armor. Made it a rough time for some assassins as mages can keep up their protection constantly with all the bonus armor given due to heavy on top of it.

as long as you balance the base classes to be capable of PvP in their base armor type, with appropriate passive and active skills for defense, etc. Plenty of games that have done that where you have casters in cloth and they survive fine.

@deft dragon It's not that the armor is tailored to a class, but to a certain type of mitigation. Wiki states light armor leaning towards magic defense, heavy armor towards physical resistance. So it might even be a Tank wearing light armor in a magic heavy encounter. I like!

Is there any information on the intended skill gap between players for class mechanics? For instance, in FFXIV the average Black Mage does about 50% the dps of a good black mage at the same ilvl. The average Red Mage on the other hand does about 80% of the damage of a good red mage at the same ilvl.
Basically what I'm asking, is player skill going to matter or will it be more like Path of exile where your build is everything? If player skill is going to matter, how much of a % difference can we expect to see from a class played at a high level vs an average?
There wont be any real numbers at the moment to say for sure. The one thing we can speculate is, that the action based combat skills / skill shots should be able to do more damage then the tap targetted ones. But this is just my interpretation based on the ideas Intrepid is communicating. THis means, that mages with the same equip but skill allocation as in 75% action / 25% tab should do more damage then 25% action / 75% tab. Again, that's my interpretation @split crown
THey want player skill to be a good % of the dmg you can put out but it's too early to have real numbers since the combat is still very much being tweaked

player skill will matter at least as much as gear, and with action skills needing to actually be landed, it will matter even more than tab only MMOs

build will be very important based on content as they dont want a one build fits all for raids, dungeons etc. even then the build is only meant to make you effective, your skill will still dictate performance. In PvP things aren't balanced 1v1 but around small groups so builds and counter builds will be very important but again skill will play an equal role there.
@real sleet it's these types of class-specific passives that I'm thinking about when I say I wonder if wearing your intended armor will give more benefit. So if a Cleric isn't wearing Chain armor, they don't get this armor passive bonus, thus may have lower stats, etc. and all the other armor passives are class-specific as well, so only mage gets that extra MP from cloth, tank gets extra HP from plate, etc. https://ashesofcreation.wiki/Medium_armor_(passive)

there's no real way to make a guess at that at this point. as I said content is going to change based on the state of the world so raid bosses may change enough to require you to make adjustments up to and including gear, so raid logging may be less prevalent. But its hard to know until we see how far reaching the changes actually are.
No i didn't know that, i mostly play FFXIV. I quit wow cause i couldn't deal with the hours required to be able to raid
@deft dragon Yeah, but they get increased magic or physical resistance! It's a tradeoff, as in many gameplay mechanics. I find this refreshing to not absolutely have to stick to one trade.
and as wrath said 80% of the raids will be in the open world so just logging in to kill the boss isn't possible either. you will have to contend with respawn timers and other players to get your kills.

is there an npc which will buff us by spending some ingame coins? like certain classes like bards and healers can buff
lineage 2 has that feature of giving full buffs for 1 hour for a cost of ingame coins

I haven't heard anything about this, but you can buy foods in taverns that give you special buffs as long as you stay within a certain area around that tavern
there was like food buffs from eating at peoples freeholds etc
certain buffs is ok but was asking full buff up for grinding and stuff

Bard is the buff class and it's very active, more like the Aion Chanter. Check out the Bard Wiki page, one of the first things on it is Steven talking about how he doesn't like how L2 did buffs.

@crystal beacon I'm not sure, the only referencs to bards playing instruments was a "it might be fun to have a feature in game where you can play music outside of combat" and referenced the system in ArcheAge. So not much info on whether it's a thing or not.
I believe there was mention that some spells might make it look like you have an instrument, we know that there won't be a weapon that is an instrument tho
based on other quotes, though, bards main weapon would vary depending on what they choose just like other classes. He has a quote where he talks about a bard using swords just for one example.

Hey guys. Do any of you know, why many skills use 80% focus threshold to use? Why not 100%? Is there any benefit to stack focus, like statwise that I am unaware of?
Sure but it seems so counterintuitive to use 80% of something as threshold. For me that means that there will be other skills that require 100% focus to use.
Or that you get other benefits from focus besides the ultimate skills.
Well, we will see I guess. But there is nothing like it (better mitigation, damage boost yada yada) in the game right now, right?

Sure there is a reason. Let's say the skill required 100% focus. Once you reached 100%, you might not be in a situation where it's convenient to use the skill right away, so you'd sit on the 100% and waste time. If it only uses 80%, then you can keep sitting on it and it'll keep going up so that when you eventually use the skill it'll already have some focus charged for he next use
So i currently live in new jersey without a driver license and im waiting to get in contact with a representative to ask a question but the queue time for waiting is estimate to be an hour. In APOC there was something akin to a battlepass called the adventurer path
you earned rewards by playing, and could pay for additional stuff

We have no information on that yet, but I doubt it will be an instant transition. If nothing else Intrepid will need time to write out and send the emails to all the Alpha 2 players and get information on who will be joining for the tests
I personally think there will be a break in between the two, but we'll need to wait on official word from Intrepid to know for sure

You would still need an account to play on it. Public test realm just means that testing for future content updates (which are meant to be small monthly and larger quarterly) would be put there first before release to live servers.
Hello, I have sent a ticket to the support on the 14th regarding someone stealing my account. I still have no answer other than the automatic acknowledgement of the ticket. I know I heard someone say there was an influx of tickets at this time but is this really the normal waiting time or did my ticket get lost in the ether?

Yep, sadly at the moment there is a backlog due to NDA processing and an influx of people using customer service to ask questions like "How do I node?" and since they don't auto respond it takes a while to sort to the real issues that need help.
I just seen the thing about only a hand full of people able to get some items or titles.. like Flying mounts. Does that mean those items are theirs once the get it, and no one else has a chance to gain it? Or does it mean that those people have to continue to fight to keep it.. and if they don't, they can lose it and some one else fighting for the item can gain it now?
The mounts go away if they lose their status. Status is usually gained or lost monthly.

It is not a ladder in that there is someone waiting on the rung below that gets next. It is a new process everytime.
If a player is a mayor/royalty with a tier 3 mount, that mount will be able to fly. If they lose the position of mayor or royalty while still owning the mount, it will then only be able to glide, rather than fly @livid portal

@slate island there are rare drop eggs you can get in the game as well that you can hatch a flying mount from...it can last a certain number of days based on how well you took care of it prior to hatching. That is a way you can get a flying mount without being metropolis mayor or a leader of a castle.
ya, @full badger he didn't clarify if it was a permanent gain, or a gain based on current accomplishments. Also.. couldn't that be set up so eventually most people will get a gliding mount? Like... streamers working together?

Gliding mounts have no restriction on them other than gaining the mount

Right now we don't know how rare the tier 3 mounts will be, so it's hard to tell how common they will be on a server
@livid portal If everyone wanted a gliding mount they can get them(tier 2) but they won't be the best mounts in every situation. As there will be swimming, jumping, faster running, and maybe digging mounts, etc. That will work better in some places than others.

If the eggs are tradeable i expect people will more likely sell them for guild funds and such unless it has pvp castle siege abilities even then selling it to the attacking guild is a possibiity

i think i heard that titles will be kind of temporary like the tier 3 mounts but im not 100% sure on that
I love the idea of very hard to gain items or titles or what ever else the game gives (Weapons, mounts types, Armor, something else) It makes the low level look at it like "Wow, I want that!" But if they come to find out, they will never be able to gain that item.. kind of puts a damper on them trying to play the game.. Hey all, have a question about getting XP in the game. Can your character gain XP by just gather/crafting and not just through PVP/PVE content?

There are hard and soft CC abilities. There is also diminishing returns.
It's a bit early to tell, we've only seen up to lvl 10-15 content, so I feel like that's not a very good representation of what higher level content might require. We know there are CC skills, but the combat is still very much being worked on and we don't know if any of the secondary augments will make them into long CC like a sap or frost trap in WoW
i hope there is no CC over 5 sekends for PVP even sheep/sap/sleeps.
its just crap if you go into a 2v2 and boom your mate is sleeping for 30 sekends while you get killed.

there are two type of pets, combat pets and companion pets. Companion pets are just critters that follow you around and are for fun visual things. Combat pet can be used by any class, they take a part of your stats and give you some versatility/skills

Ahhh, so each player has available storage in every city, but they can't move any decent amount of the resource without a caravan.
im assuming those 8000 tickets will be divided up among the attackers of the caravan or collected the most that dropped
so i doubt you will have the full 8000 unless you managed to solo it

Sorry, I'm not very good at economy so I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say, but mayors can't generate gold out of nothing. They tax players for their gold, and then use that gold for improving their towns. They cannot pull that gold out of the node coffers.
There will be many ways in which players will need to spend gold so that it will be difficult for them to just sit on it. All gear is temporary and degrades over time, and requires you to spend gold and materials to fix it, for example.
Very rich players might also decide to buy their way into the mayor seat of an economic node, losing a big chunk of their assets

@queen canopy this is a pretty massive question that is probably too much for this channel, but the short answer is the game has numerous gold sinks through through crafting, durability, node upkeep and many others. The player driven economy plus gold sinks (which the devs can adjust to combat inflation) will keep the economy healthy.
I'd imagine they'll adjust gold rewards if the game is too punishing on gold sinks and repair costs
gear can be repaired if it reaches zero durability but it will require a portion of the original mats to do so.

@queen canopy not exactly the devs themselves, the economy has valves built in to it that will auto react to these sorts of things. Its their "World Manager". So as example if supplies of iron are getting extremely high, the respawn timer might get longer. To much gold being generated by certificates from mobs? Lower drop rate or increase upkeep costs. The world sort of regulates itself based on how they have talked about the world manager so far.
the devs could step in if needed because things were really getting out of hand, there are so many upkeeps and gold sinks I think it will be pretty easy to maintain a reasonably healthy economy

From the NPCs in the world. If you kill a wolf and get a wolf pelt and sell it to an NPC that is where money comes from.
lol, the money will initially come from certificates, which are items dropped by creatures you kill that you can sell for gold. The further you travel away from the area you killed the monster at, the more money you can make.
NPCs are responsible for setting a lot of the prices in a node

Thought the economic system would be a little more complicated:
With different currencies, embargo between nodes on the trade of certain resources, economic wars.
I would like the players (mayors / kings) to concentrate all the power of the economy, so that they, physically, issue a currency that has a value in relation to other currencies of other states. So that their decisions to declare war on another country or start building a fleet would have a real impact on the economy and could lead to real CONSEQUENCES. Whatever their decisions to issue more money or to impose more taxes or duties would have an IMPACT. Because now everyone is ruled by NPCs, which are essentially just bottomless bags of money, the amount and volume of which is regulated by some parameters, but is still infinite. Although, in truth, this is most likely too complex a system to implement.
But what already exists and is planned is much better than those MMORGPs that are on the market.
Is there a mechanic where players can have bad factions with nodes that will interfere with selling certs dropped during a caravan raid back at the originating city?

Basically playing this game alone will be really hard and you can't try out different aspects of the game. So far the only limit on guilds and alliances are:
every guild has guild progress system. If the guild want to reach the max number (300), it's focusing on raising number, not choising other progress options.
Every guild has a limit, how much allies can there be. The limit is 4-5.
These are the only know thing about your question.

Yes 1500 people can rick roll a server if they wanted to. But that is when you just join them instead of fighting it.

Ohh on other thing is. The planed active population/servers is planned around 8-10k. With registered account limit 50k. So if you have 2k ppl on server it will be boring fast as there is noone to fight
@nocturne tide I wouldnβt worry about it too much the map is massive for one and each metropolis will encompass 1/5 of the map in its zone of influence they would have to spread themselves fairly thin to cover all 5 metros and node allegiance overrides guild allegiance
@nocturne tide One thing to clarify about the choices for leveling a guild. There will be benefits to having a small guild. If you choose to put points into guild buffs/traits instead of increasing the member cap, that could in theory balance your smaller guild against a larger guild. We don't have any idea what the buffs/traits will be though, so this is very much up in the air.
@nocturne tide also if they went full buffs and alliance route there can only be 4 guilds in an alliance (system wise) so theyβd have an alliance size of maybe 200ish by current full buffed guild size estimates
