@simple ether it took me a minute to find it, but they have mentioned population based scaling for both NPC item prices as well as within the node system. they said they can scale the XP needed to level a node and the attrition that delevels the a node based on activity.
correct but the comment is actually that it scales on population and activity so if there is an influx of mining activity in the area it can normalize it. They want the time it takes to get from each stage to take a certain amount of time even outside of the start so if its supposed to take 6 weeks to go from city to metro they aren't going to allow you to power it out in a week by bringing in 6x the expected number of players.

There is a ratio to it based on player number. More ppl more required xp.
I think the intention is simply to prevent the extremes from being an issue. they may be fine with city to metro taking anywhere from 4 - 8 weeks, with an average of around 6, but want to protect against powering it out unreasonably fast. obviously this is my interpretation of the comment but it makes sense based on their other zerg protection comments.

What are your thoughts on zone-flation? I am an Everquest lover (have my own classic server community) and the worst part is coming back to the game years later and everyone gone from your favorite leveling zones (like unrest, if you are familiar). I heard on your asmongold interview that you want to try to keep old zones relevant by unlocking new content in them but not removing old, are you going to keep new zones to a minimum (especially not making them better places to go) to keep old zones relevant?
would players have to develop technology or something like that to be able to build a boat to travel to another region?

So, nodes are built up by player activity and contributions. Nodes also have upkeep requirements to keep players investing in their node. If the upkeep isn't met, the node resets back to level 0

So to prevent top guilds from monopolizing spawns, fast travel will be significantly limited (I think the "family" thing could be rigged/structured by guilds to allow a few people to fast travel everyone) is there any other ways this will be countered?

I trust him, but this sort of thinking (see pic) is scary because one mmo I played used this exact same philosophy to put "experience potions" so people with less time could catch up, turned out everyone had to use them to stay relevant!

Ok cool but just saying, this type of thinking leads to catch-up mechanics that turn out bad. Not many games before the mmo I was referencing had xp pots so the idea sounded great at the time.
the best way i ever see bonus xp would be an event of some kind say maybe next expansion comes out 4 years from now and they market it really well and pair it with a week or two of bonus xp before lauch of said expansion, just my opinion but i doubt it would happen just by looking at their direction of the game
I think druid and wizard teleportation from Classic Everquest should be looked at as an alternative to the Family teleport, that system was quite nice.
Basically you can't port people to you, you can port them WITH you to only certain locations in the world.

I think that is a good relief valve to be possible if server pop dwindles for whatever reason. But if everything is fine ppl will be priced out and will make sense to go elsewhere I assume

however you wont get the benefits of citizenship

there isn't much to understand at this point. there will be barding made of multiple components each that can effect the stats of the mount (hp, speed etc) but that's about all that's known for sure at this point

weapon master is just the name of the class and doesn't effect what can be used. any class can use any weapon.

we just don't know that yet. either one could make sense depending on where they want to draw the line for interconnecting the systems and making sure each profession has demand.

as there is already an armour and weapons smithing profession in the same tree
barding is technically listed as armor so that would be what I would assume until its stated otherwise though. think of blacksmithing for things like ship and caravan parts (reinforcements, wheels, etc) there is a lot of things outside of weapons and armor that will need to be consumed.
right so its more of a support for other areas in a way
you can think of it that way, but much like armor for a person, the stats of your caravans and ships will be dependent on the parts they are made of, so in a way its like armor or weapons for those things. Keep in mind some of this is just my interpretation since we don't have the actual systems explained yet. But they have talked about both caravans and ships having crafted parts of various levels of quality to help keep them safe.
right so you might supply parts for shipbuilders or siege engineers and i assume you might be able to customise your caravan so that it is faster but weaker or something along those lines
something like that with quality coming into play with regards to bonuses and penalties. I think those are fairly safe assumptions based on how they have talked so far.

@potent blade when it comes to Skilling, your character can have skill mastery of only one skill. The rest of the skills will be capped at a level lower than the max level
Perfect. I had a char for ESO who had all the crafting traits and a bunch of profession based skills and trees but id only login to do crafting then switch to my regular content toon
@potent blade The basic version: You have three artisan paths which are Gathering, Processing, and Crafting. You have a bunch of different professions under each of those paths. You can become a Master of one of the three main paths, but not the other two. It's not fully decided yet on how many of the professions you can master underneath each main path, but it is that you cannot be a master of a profession under a path without first being a master of that path. How that works, not quite sure yet and they are still testing. However, what you do in the Artisan professions has nothing to do with your combat professions. You can go Cleric/Cleric and become a High Priest healer going on dragon hunts by day, and then go fishing at night without worry.

I know the answer is likely "no" or "to be decided", and it's kind of a dumb question, but do we know how large the creatures summoned by a Summoner are going to be? Like, human sized? Bigger? Smaller? With the prospect of body blocking and using terrain features as a part of keeping your flanks covered in pvp, this is actually a pretty important question despite its seeming inanity.
I can easily see a brood warden picking up the largest summon it can to block hallways, gates, or other such things to be more efficient as a blocker than, say, a human tank.
is Ashes of Creation Apocalypse going to be back at all and would it be a good way to understand the MMO's pvp?

@wind canyon On the main page look to the right side for the show inventory tab. That is where your package details are kept. If you have just migrated from the old system it can take 24-48 hours before your items may migrate into inventory. Since it is the weekend, customer service is off and there is a backlog of tickets atm due to getting the NDAs out to those that need them for testing that have had issues. If you don't see your stuff in your account after the weekend, file a ticket then prepare to wait awhile. They will sort you out eventually.

@vernal swallow @past pewter Nodes types are pre-determined and set from level 0. They do not change even if the node is reset to 0. They are the same for location on all servers. Mayors may have an option to change the name of the node from an approved list. This was mentioned as a possibility and has not been seen in testing yet.
<speculation> The node placement is set by Intrepid because of the complexity of the node system and how it interacts through the various subsystems like the vassal nodes to unlock content. A scientific node may be better suited to a location where there is an ancient library poi located nearby, a military node may be more suited to a place where terrain creates a natural choke point. <speculation over>

About augments:
For example I have Fighter and augment spec into Cleric, there are mentioned life (healing) augments and death (damage) augments.
Q: Do I choose augments for entire class, or I can augment some spells for healing and some spells for damage?
Best to wait until later about secondary class and augment speculation. We have very little info on how it will exactly work and anyone who answers you besides an actual developer is guessing.

Each class will offer 4 different augment types as secondary classes.
These schools are not the same. For example mage can give you: fire, lightning, frost or teleport type, while cleric life or death (2 known so far out of 4 for cleric)

There is said on ashes101 that for having a citizenship you need a property first.
With properties there are mentioned in-node housings and Instanced apartments, but I didn't see freeholds mentioned in relation for citizenship.
Q1: Does having a freehold allow you to be citizen of said node?
Q2: Does having properties in different nodes allow you to have multiple citizenships or you can only be citizen of 1 node at the time?
Q3: If I have properties in 2 different nodes, can I give up my citizenship in one node and acquire it in the other node prior / during the siege declaration time?

Q1: Interesting question, I dont think that has been answered profitiently. I lean towards no, because the freehold ist basically your own ZOI so you technically are no citizen of the node itself, thus it does not fulfil the requirement of player housing in the node itself.
Q2: you can only have 1 citizenship at a time, but your other equities stay yours.
Q3: you can assume a new citizenship two weeks after you gave up the original one. If you can drop your citizenship while the siege is declared, I dont know. The wiki states that 'most services are stopped' but no specifics.

Okay, so we know this game will have a supscription system, but will it be stoppable? For example, I'm often off the house cause of vacations/work or other things and I lose the opportunity to play the game which means I'm kinda losing the chance to play and my subscription I bought is wasting.

@idle siren Sorry for the ping, but really interested in whether there's a possibility that an "offspec" such as Fighter-Tank would end up outperforming Tank-Tank when it comes to tanking, due to pumping out more threat while still staying healthy enough to tank everything, or will you be balancing the game out in the way that the Tank primary class will always be the go-to pick for tanking?
I'm asking this, because in the event that Fighter-Tank or any other "non-Tank primary class" would be the best for tanking, competitive players would essentially be forced to reroll a new character just to stay on top of the game, despite picking THE tank class.
As for alpha's and beta's do we keep progression! Does everything rollover on full release?
@sweet hawk a primary Tank is probably always going to perform better at Tanking than any other class doing a different primary with Tank as a sub. Why? Because the sub-class only augments/adds to the primary classes skills, they do not bring skills from the sub class. So, for instance, a Fighter-Tank would have only fighter skills, but those skills would be augmented by the tank class, like maybe a fighter skill added a little bit of threat. It's not going to be nearly the amount of threat that could be generated by a Tank primary skill. I would say the interesting thing would be the variety of Tank primaries with different sub-classes.

@young elk I feel like there will still be people with alts just because they want to play a different Adventure set up or have a desire to have multiple mastered professions, but from what I've seen even after you hit the level cap (which should take quite a while), there should be so much to do in the game that it's not going to matter that much

Yeah, I think the question was... If you're Fighter/Mage then let's say you have that Rush skill. Let's say the schools of augmentation are Teleportation, Fire, Ice, Lightning. If you use Rush, depending on your augmentation you might teleport directly to them, cause a burning, freeze, or stun effect. That's totally understandable.

Basically, if i can't choose augment for each skill separately, this system isn't different from any other mmo's selectable talents. Like arcane mage, shadow priest etc. All the hype i got for it would dissapear as i find it boring.

Basically you have more choices, in the same system. But ofc it's my own opinion, and hope in the same time that i can pick differenc augments to my skills based on my taste.
You pick an augment for each skill. You don't just pick "fire" and then all your abilities are fire based.
we know you will be able to select different augments for your skills. As you level up and unlock your 4 augments they are simply unlocked and can be used. We know this because you can also have racial, religious, and social augments in addition to the ones you unlock by leveling up your class

Hi, I have a question about what would happen in the following situation. So there is a lvl 5 node and it has a lvl 3 vassal node. I establish my freehold in the ZOI of the lvl 5 node, near this lvl 3 vassal, but not quite inside its ZOI. Now the level 3 node advances to level 4 and my freehold is no inside the ZOI of the lvl 4 node. Does my citizenship now switch to the lvl 4 node, or do I remain a citizen of the lvl 5 node?
Or is that situation for some reason not possible?
I have a question about marriages. It says there is a marriage component within in the game that unlocks certain node quests. Is this getting married to another player (like me RL hubby) or do I have to marry some NPC (boo)?

I can't answer this surely, but it would be interesting, if it change based on the guild. I mean if the guild is like 50% Dwarf, then transform into a Dwarf Castle.

Any node can switch as long as it can be upgraded to a higher tier.

The node 0 stage is just wilderness, so the first node stage that can have buildings will take the architecture of whatever race added the most experience to its progression at each level up

as it stands currently the architecture of the node will only reflect the race that contributed the most during the last leveling process. beyond that this conversation should continue in #aoc-discussion or likely better on the forums since the devs do look there for feedback on systems from time to time.
It wouldn't be too hard to integrate either, as the building construction system they have seems to be able to make buildings really easily, and connecting buildings of different types shouldn't be too hard for them to do by the launch of the game

Yeah, I just checked the wiki. Obviously there is some "neighborhood" system in place as well. As you stated correctly, I was referring to vassal nodes and parent nodes.

In any case, I don't think we know for sure. All we have a definitive answer on is if your house is destroyed, then you lose a portion of the materials and the rest gets mailed to you. It might be a good question to ask in the next Q&A 🙂

A node is land that can evolve into villages and cities
@rare tendon You might want to do that, but you don't HAVE to. Castle nodes will strongly encourage a whole guild to be in that castle but the regular nodes not really. You could easily have a guild split up in various areas to help with the moving of goods and such. It'll be up to the various guilds and personal preference of players

pvp, but they might have some pve elements to them. Like you could end getting some missions to do before the full on siege for a node war that would give you some bonuses

The node siege is the actual pvp event that is scheduled during the server prime time
are you forced to take part of the event if your node is being attacked or is it only an option?
So, if you want to destroy a node that is impeding the growth of your own node, then you declare war on that node. That will flag every citizen of those two nodes as combatant (plus their allies) against each other and make them at war. Then a siege time will be chosen, at which time the actual large-scale battle will happen.
@wheat oxide You'll be flagged for combat, but the actual siege is optional, if you're not into that sort of large scale pvp battle you don't have to participate
There are other ways you can contribute to the defense of your node without participating in the actual battle

Doesn't matter if you have a potential of 1000 players living in your town when only 250 can participate in the siege 😛
Plus, small nodes can make alliances and have other players come help

You will know WAY in advance the date and time of the siege
so if you want to participate you'll have time to make it back

Yep yep, scientific is popularity vode, economic is whoever puts the most gold/resource in (aka buy-in office), military is a free for all arena battle with an NPC character you control and religious will be whoever contributed the most in quests in that node

there will be a main storyline quest that can help guide you if you have no idea where you want to go too. The starting zones are a bit like tutorial areas but they're optional so you could skip them and just head out into the world

@rare tendon it will take as long as necessary. the betas will be much shorter than alphas but in terms of timeline, Intrepid are committed to getting the systems working well in each of the alphas before moving forward. So any timeline would be pure guesswork.

@maiden oar think of it as a pool of augments that you can choose to apply to any given skill. so my secondary gives me 4 to chose from at max level and I could have another 3+ to chose from as well. Sometimes I may want to augment my skill with something from my secondary and sometimes I may want my racial augment. You aren't negating anything just expanding your options. That is horizontal progression.

would it be possible for a rogue to set a trap on mats that would track where they go so that if your mats are stolen, you could track where they go and allow you to set up a seige against the village/town/city that is housing the guild of mercenaries? kind of like scrying on a known object from D&D.

How does the referral system work ?
You give friends/family/whomever your code, and you earn 15% of whatever they spend in the form of intrepid bucks. You can trade the intrepid bucks for sub time/embers for cosmetics/real money (subject to change)
So basically, you need to refer 7 people that all pay the $15 sub fee for you to get sub for free each month

Voice acting and ingame cut scenes. How much (if any) will we see
little to no voice acting, cut scenes I dont think have been expressly discussed.
They have been, there will be some, but very few. That may change later down the line as they get more dosh to throw around.
cinematic cutscenes with voice, sure they aren't really doing that, but just in game cutscenes with text I don't think they have addressed. I know they did a little intro "cutscene" for the dragon boss at the end of the dungeon so there will definitely be in game cutscenes of some variety.

If i buy a pack now to get into beta/alpha/whatever, the cosmetics and stuff that come with it i assume will go with me to my server of choice even if its being hosted by a 3rd party like EU's my.com. I wanted to ask if you want to transfer server again at a later date, will the whole character and items etr be able to be transfered? Or will it be new character but u can still have the package cosmetics,etc like starting a new. OR will it be just a new character and nothing is transferred?
I realise this is a question potentially for later when more info is set in stone, but curious if there are plans or garentees in place currently.

@delicate bone a Server Transfer means that you get your character to a new server. If you just make a new one, IT is not a transfer.
The cosmetics are account bound so you will have them on every server you are on.

@real sleet There is sure to be a method of moving your freehold through packing it up. Probably not an easy process to keep it from being abused. Freeholds are not going to be able to be sold as of last information given since the progression on them makes that problematic. In-node housing and possibly apartments can be sold.

Hmmm I don't think you can "pack up" your freehold considering that you need a certificate from the node it's in
You can only have 1 freehold/account. So based on it it's not tradable. Also it's a big decision where you buy it, making you more motivated to participate in node defensed..feel the node, you are at, home.
You need the certificate to place it. The method of "packing it up" is already in place in case of destruction, the template is mailed to you. The restrictions I am talking about is not being able to move resources through that process.
@delicate bone Hey there, to clarify- Account Migrations are different from character transfers. Regarding an account migration- you can indeed move your account between regions (NA->EU), doing so will move all your store cosmetics/packs with you. However your characters/equipment/progression will not carry over- only store cosmetics/embers will carry over.
(TL;DR Stuff you buy with your credit card moves around, stuff you buy with in-game gold stays in that region or gets deleted)

Will action based abilities deal more damage depending on where they land? Are there Hitboxes for head, torso, legs, hands? e.g. can ranger do a headshot? Or can a mage do a headshot with "laser beam" ? Or maybe headshot = crit?

The idea behind headshot in the MMORPG is that, if we do implement headshots - part of this testing is to determine if we will - but if we were to implement headshots it will be along the lines of a higher critical chance. So basically hitting a skillshot on the head will increase significantly the opportunity for that damage to be critical. Will they one-shot? Absolutely not.

No. A1 at launch will have 3 races. Human, Elves, and Dwarfs along with 5 Archetypes which include Tank, Cleric, and Mage. By the end of A1 they want to add all 8 Archetypes to A1 and add Orcs.

I have sent a ticket to "support@ashesofcreation.zendesk.com" and am currently waiting for a reply. Is this the best way to solve this issue or should I reach through other means?
Can someone explain the thinking behind the rotation of preorder pack cosmetics and the inability to buy previous offerings? If I drop $375 as soon as I learn about the game am I not as valuable as someone who got last months pack and the option to cherry pick this months? Seems inefficient to keep making new skins available while “limited time offer” packs expire and are missed simply due to not knowing about the game. Why create the extra support overhead of having to refund my purchase this month if I like next months cosmetics better? Why not Just let us pick the preorder cosmetic pack we want?

Which is probably part of the reason why Steven wants to push the cap of Castle sieges to 500v500 if possible so that the first node siege on a metropolis can handle(the game and personal computers can handle) the number of people fighting over it

@celest moat well you can't participate in the defense if you're a citizen or ally of the node that is attacking, but other then that as far as I'm aware, yes, anyone can help defend.

Static would make gathering and sorting intelligence far easier. Also getting directions and such would be simpler.
Yeah, the proposition I saw floating around that I thought might work was that you could rename a town only after it had been destroyed. So the 1st mayor after a node reaches rank 3 would pick the name from a bank and it would stay that until it dropped back down to 0 and then up to 3 again.
Otherwise your town would change name every month and that's a bit silly haha

@crystal beacon Not a lot of folks have hands on experience with the game at the moment, I'd recommend waiting for alpha 1 to start later this fall. You can try poking around in #aoc-discussion and see if you can find a high tier kickstarter backer that wants to share their thoughts
You can play around in AAU, but it has a very serious flaw with their gearing progression
If you play, I would say go in as a tourist, but do not get invested into it
The Hiram gear was meant to be a catch up mechanic for new players to catch up, but now it is the only set of gear tied to a daily grind

So, I know node seiges can pretty much be declared anytime. But if you do a castle siege for your guild to own one of the castles...it said it can be done monthly. Do players choose when that happens? Like can a player decide hey Saturday at 8 pm we’re doing it? Or does the server dictate when it’s available?
the way I understand it, there will be some time slots you can chose from depending on your server's prime time
So you can't say; alright let's sneak a siege in at 3am on tuesday

@simple ether In regards to housing, specifically freeholds, will we be able to allow certain people (family, spouse or others) to place furniture in the house, maybe even suggest structure changes (with final call to the owner in the case of structure changes) ?

You might wanna check out what happens in ESO and the fact that some details have players a little pissed off (overall the system is good but some bad decisions imo)
what i heard @simple ether say in a video (i think it was his opinion of how it should or could work) is if your married you should be allowed to place freeholds next to each other. correct me if im wrong tho.
because I really do wanna give "free reign" to my gf to decorate. Perhaps an option for me to "lock" items in place or similar just to give control to the owner. Also @unreal zealot yeah freeholds next to each other to married couples would be great (with nonabusable checks in place)
There is a minimum distance between freeholds to keep the city spam down. I have seen nothing about linked freeholds because of a marriage mechanic. They have said you will be able to give people various levels of permission.

@crystal beacon You can if you are attacking that node. So if you declare a war on a node and siege it, during the siege you can destroy building inside the main town. If you win the siege you'll have a few hours to go around and try to break freeholds in it's zone of influence too

Maybe, it hasn't been confirmed. I don't think they had planned on it but a lot of ppl are asking for it so they might end up adding it
They want to have it, but is not a priority. UE4 has native controller support. Last test I was able to use an XBox controller to move, jump and basic attack. There is no option for bindings as of yet.

Don't mean this to be a pointed question, but what is AoC's tolerance / stance on bots? I have played several games where there are 24-hr shouts that are either RMT or Merc related or a gather that is an obvious bot with the same pattern of mining or fishing 24hrs a day 7 day a week. And it always baffles me to see months go by and they are still there like a sore thumb.

I was reading on the wiki, it says 'by default naval caravans will have racial appearances', does this mean by this ruling there may be (or is already in the game) planned ship-styles for ships that were to be built that are themed after the races? TL;DR in case I was confusing. Are racial ships going to be a thing that's buildable?

@unreal sierra caravans are not the same thing as ships, these are two separate systems. The caravans by default will have a look based on your race, but I don't think they've specified for large ships

Aight so i read through the faq and i have a few questions that i guess are more related to the social aspect then gameplay if that makes sense
I heard somewhere that theres going to be a player cap of 8-10,000 per server, and i was just wondering how easy it would be able for people who know eachother prior to the opening of these servers to join them together
They plan on allowing early registration for guilds
so you can say: i have a group of 50 ppl that all want to be on the same server, and they'll be like; ok, according to all the groups request we received this X server would work best for you guys

(also 10k is online at once, you'll be able to have a lot more accounts registered on the server then that 10k)
I believe total accounts created for the servers was estimated to be 30-50k (not all online concurrently)

That's what testing is for, so they can figure out a balance that works! I assume there will be some Qs during prime time early on when the hype is at the highest and then it'll balance out
