No data is really out for how secondaries stack up, going off the names is pretty pointless as those are still subject to change too
@sonic sky We don't have a lot of info on the full classes yet, names can give us a very vague idea of how they might work but until alpha 2 we won't know for sure. At the moment, it doesn't look like they have anything close to the druid archetype, we don't know if nature magic will be a thing and I'm pretty sure shapeshifting isn't something any of the classes can do, but we'll need to wait for more info to be 100% sure

A question to the Corona statue and the cosmetic skins.
First, is it enough to make a account for the Corona statue or do I need to purchase one of the packs?
Second: if I buy one of the packs I get the opportunity to buy skins in the packs afterwards which are includet in mine. So if I buy the pack with mount skin I can buy mount skins but no house skin. Is there no way to buy those house skins later on? Or can I upgrade my pack? And if I do do I have to pay the full price or only the difference to the pack I already got?

@crystal beacon For the 2nd point, you basically get it. If you buy the pack that can buy up to the mounts and then later you see a house you really like then you can upgrade your pack and you'll get the skin from the current cosmetic line

Gw2 is the best mmo atm for me, but I think aoc has the potential outmatch it by far. BTW arena net dispatched very much of their Gw2 team last year to other games and even fired some, perhaps some of them would like to fill your missing staff? I think the overall theme to rethink mmos is present in aoc and gw2 so the minds behind it could be very helpful :)

for players, I loved playing as a barbarian in DnD
there hasn't been mentions of a skill that does a similar effect to the rage from DnD, but perhaps fighters might get something. You'll have to wait until they show us all the skills to know ๐
I recommend bringing it up in the forums, class abilities are still in a pretty early stage and subject to much change so if enough people agree with you they might make it an ability if its not already. Also possible to fit something close as a bard/other support class ability to inspire a similar effect for the group.

Yes, it'll be a bunch of small pockets, areas you can enter from various places
in total the underrealm will be around 100 km^2

@mighty dew Yes, you can dye gear. The dyes will be craftable by players and one time use. (only exception is the kickstarter backer exclusive ones which work a bit different)

Might buy the lowest from a vendor possibly but for the most part you will make your own and they have durability and will need to be repaired/remade
We know gatherers will be able to make their own tools, it's not known if the very first tier of them will be available at NPCs, but maybe. The tools will evolve as you level your professions, and eventually you can make unbreakable ones
will the crafting of your tools be a profession on its own or like a small segments of each profession
like you can be really good at farming so the farming tools you make are also good, or is it going to be related to the blacksmith profession

You need higher tier tools to gather the higher tier materials too

and the tools will degrade over time meaning more materials will be used to create that tool.
Also the nodes have various tiers of materials in them, so a node will simultaneously have low and high tier mats to be gathered in it.
@grizzled latch You're correct, I misunderstood what Steven had said during the last Dev Update, he didn't say that you could get unbreakable tools only that they would gain more uses as you improve and that master tools would allow you access to rarer gatherable, thanks for pointing it out!

Yes, taming is under gathering and animal husbandry is under processing
so you cannot master both on 1 character

We don't have a date for alpha 2. Alpha 1 starts in late fall this year

couple of questions just based on all the info I have read/seen (1) do Nodes essentially function like a state would with villages, towns and cities contributing to the overall success? Is the adjacent node lockout based on the largest established settlement or is it just mission based (bring down a city so you can have one in adjacent node or node progression is just used to unlock mission content)? (2) Will race effect Artisan tree attributes? (3) is the progression in Gathering, Processing and crafting point based in progression so that the points given in the 50 levels are all you have to work with or can you get high level in the rest of the triangle with a mastery in one selected field? (4) Will the Under realm pockets have multiple entrances or will they only need to defend one if attacked (looking at it from a military tactics stand point)?

Question: How much will the racials of the race choice matter? Let's say will a dwarf (fighter) be perfered over a human (fighter) in different occasion? Meaning to do this one thing would have to need dwarf fighters instead of human fighters to make an example.
here is what steven said about the racials
that came out smaller than I would have liked. here is the quote "Different races have different stat compositions. Those stats can be important, but we also don't want them to dictate any kind of meta for what classes are best used with different races"
Steven also said he wanted the races to feel like they play different for example, a dwarf fighter would feel different than a human fighter
correct another relevant quote is "Our goal here is to create a system where an elven fighter feels different, but serves the same role as a dwarven fighter"
so artisan progression and level progression are seperate XP pools I get that but what prevents you from mastering all artisan skills if it isn't tied to level?
there is a limit built in. There are three artisan paths with multiple professions in each. You will be able to master "A few but not all" professions within one artisan path
Well the game design itself prevents you from mastering everything on 1 character. As a crafter, there will also be some high tier recipe that you can only get from killing rare mobs
As a gatherer, you'll need to be high level to defend yourself while out and about from mobs and players
As a processor, that might be the easiest. If you can get a gatherer to get stuff for you you could technically (at the moment, with what we know, subject to change) max out processing without maxing your combat levels
sounds like gatherers will need to gather as a party to be effective?
not to be effective, but you may need others near to help keep you safe.

@hollow sentinel keep in mind its not that simple. if you are a small group that might make you more appealing to attack and take your goods since you are concentrating goods into one location. The PvP system will make even the gathering a risk/reward decision
understood but as gatherables drop on death to some degree all I have to do is not fight back and they face corruption penalties
If you fight back you loose less, then if you not fight back
correct, but not fighting back means you will drop a larger percentage of your raw and processed goods. so even that decision has multiple facets to it. I want to be careful not to veer into discussion so I would recommend looking at the PvP sections on the wiki or over at ashes 101 to see how it touches everything.
tracking I'm just thinking if you go out with a party of 10 to gather statistically one can sound the alarm and the majority can make it to safety if you have one sacraficial person to slow the enemy
depending of course on the size of the attacking party
Basically it depends on lots of things. What kinda Node you are at. Is there any ganker guild around. How much profit you do each time. If you have no luck with the node, and guilds ppl around it can work like 1-2 times , before oyu got a focused gank party non-stop on you
I have a pc requirements question. Since the game is already looking beautiful, and its only going to be further polished. Will the 4K setting require a dual GPU setup for it to run smoothly or will 1 GPU be able to run this game on Max settings on its own ๐ ๐ ๐
@keen trench no way to know at this point in time exactly, but a current top end gpu can run 4k games just fine on its own. And UE4 has many optimization settings so it should be fine.

@crystal beacon Alpha 2 will run non-stop from when it starts until launch. It will most likely be a cesspool of bugs and exploits initially, so if you think that would bother you and you don't feel like spending hours just testing things then I'd say go for the Betas, those will probably be closer to a finished product but they won't be available for nearly as long

So I'd imagine they will be testing very specific things on the Beta servers, and then apply those testings to the Alpha server in the form of a patch/hotfix/update

it does from a patching standpoint actually. if you look at torchlight 3 and their early access they are using a similar structure. if a big issue is found in the beta, they can deploy it for testing without disrupting the beta servers. so if something serious is found the fix goes to the alpha 2/pts server first and if it is something more simple a push directly to the beta servers can happen.

In regards to the primary archetype and secondary archetype, what benefit is there for choosing the same archetype for both?
It empowers your abilities, instead of altering them. Tanks may generate more threat/be more defensive, healers heals would be more potent, dps would be able to put out more pure dps with their primary skills. You gain potency but lose utility
Okay wasn't sure if we would be losing out on augments for more throughput on abilities but it sounds about right.

As long as you donโt die, you do not drop anything in your inventory!

@hollow elm Potentially, they haven't gone very in depth with the naval elements of the game as of now. We know there will be different class of vessels, so there might be a medium one that focuses on fishing. Steven has mentionned that there will be something akin to harpoon fishing in high seas
@crystal beacon relatively speaking yes, though there may be some impact to you effectiveness. Take for example a tank with shield abilities. If you don't use a shield then you limit which abilities you can pick from your available ones. So synergies will come in to play but some weapon combinations will likely be stronger than others, but they are trying to keep them fairly close.

@devs I am new to this channel. not really sure if this was answered yet. my history of MMORPG is Eq and Eq2 . I am not trying to compare this to those at all . my question is will there be a Lore Story or Narrative that Interacts with Raids and Dungeons for PVE.. reason I am asking is the videos I have seen that talk about PVE is to do with Crafting or an Artisan of some sort me I want to Progress through the world as and adventurer and not as an Artisan.. so will there be enough content for the PVE adventurer or do I have to PVP for that aspect as well?
combat question. i've seen a few mmos where it slows your character down as you enter combat. that doesn't happen in ashes, correct?
They plan to have pretty in depth lore, but they won't be sharing the details with us until launch so they can keep most of the info for people to discover as they play. PvP is a pretty core aspect of the game, you might be able to avoid most of it if you want, like caravans or sieges are your choice to participate in, but when you're just wandering around and questing people can chose to attack you. @quick pewter
@thick lagoon I haven't seen anything that does that. I'm not aware of any out-of-combat speed boost other then mounts
well that's good. i always hated games like swtor or gw2 that slows your character down when you enter combat. feels so sluggish
@quick pewter to expand on your last questions, there will be a lot of PvE content, but most of it will have a PvP side to it. For example, the world bosses are technically a PvE objective but it'll be contested by many so will probably turn into a big pvp battleground quickly. Only around 20% of the dungeons will be instanced, everything else you can encounter others while clearing so again there might be some pvp happening

@jovial slate the ratio is also different in this game, the groups will consist of 8 players, with 1 tank 1 healer and 1 support, so it requires even less people to play healers then in a game like FFXIV where you have a group of 4 with 1 healer

Most of the cleric augments example that were given seemed to be self-sustain, but I admit there is still a lot to be discovered on the augments and how they will function. That being said, the initial point I was attempting to make was that the Cleric role is the only official healing archetype, so people that want to focus on healing would pick it, and you will need 1 per group usually, which is a wider range then most other MMOs. I do agree that it's likely you might need an other archetype to have a secondary as cleric, but that can be changed as needed by groups (with a bit of work), so I calculate it differently personaly

For example, as Fluffy says let's take a Fighter who has a charge skill. If you go figher/figher, you still have a charge skill but now it does aoe damage when you hit your target. If you go fighter/mage, you still have that charge but now it teleports you instead of actually charging. You go fighter/ranger and you drop a trap on arrival etc.
So it's all technically the same skill, but every secondary you pick will give you a different variant on it
(those were example i invented, not confirmed)

Nodes will level wherever people choose to put in the effort to feed exp. There are several groups that plan to move far away from the portals at launch. Theorycrafting is best for the discussion channels.

No, any number of people can contribute to a nodes exp. We saw in testing that with around 40 people working on specifically trying to get a node to "pop" from 0 to 1 it took a couple hours. They can adjust those values to get the result they want.
The amount of people and time it takes to upgrade a node will be tested and tweaked during alpha and beta

Intrepid found that is was too complicated to have a node "deleveling" mechanic trying to unwind things related to player housing and other node mechanics. They now will atrophy to 0 over a length of time with no activity.

If I have a Freehold in a node and I craft in that node, but there really isn't any other action in the node (because others have moved on), will that node then delevel or will my activity be enough to keep it from going back to zero?

I have a guildie who still logs onto Archeage every few weeks just to pay maintenance on her house that she has squatted on for years, but won't give up because it is valuable real estate.

All depends on where the testing servers end up. I would have to check whether it is A2 or B1 that has been confirmed for OCE/SEA testing server. I know it was mentioned recently.
But there are people playing from those regions in the current tests now. They just deal with the lag, which is all good data for Intrepid.
For example there is a tester from Singapore that was able to repeat a latency bug that gave a speed boost when exploiting a dodge roll bug. If they had not had them with shitty ping, it might have gone unnoticed.
I hope they have tested that with animation cancelling. Pretty much every mmo has some form of exploitable bug when animation cancelling until its patched
Dunno if this has been asked but since Steven had a lot of experience with Archeage, and Archage encouraged the idea of exploit early exploit often. Is the team going to take a similar stance?
Like that's not a good stance and as far as I understand it Steven just looks to the good parts of archeage for inspiration not the bad parts.... And that's DEFINITELY a bad part.

@idle siren So through all the research i've done on the game there was little talk on how obtaining legendries will be like. Will there be a system where you just hop into a high level raid and its legendries galore, or is it something that will be dropped so rarely/ take lots of time to craft that it will be a symbol of how long you've spent playing the game along side obtaining flying mounts

There are unique legendaries on a server. Those can be found by various means. Even just laying on the floor of some place. (hard to reach exploration poi). There will not be a single method for unique or regular top tier gear.

Hello, i am commin from BDO and I'm rly excited about Ashes of Creation. But my main worry about the game is the combat system which keeps me from preordering right away. The combat system as it is right now seems a little clunky and static, how does the tab target part of the combat system work? for targeted ability's, can you only select a target with clicking on it or the tab key? or can you just aim at a target and use the single target ability's? i rly rly hope there is a choice in this. sorry if this was asked already

There are various benefits that node citizens will gain based on the items in their reliquary, which is not just looted items, but gained through various node achievements.
@steep lagoon They are going for a hybrid combat system. Some abilites are action based, some are tab. You will have skill points that you can place into various abilities to select them for your loadout. You can choose to go 75%/25% or a mix in between either way. The combat will not resemble BDO, or on the flip side WoW. It should be more fluid and less "clunky" over development and combat is worked on.

They have shown that they realize combat is important in how it plays. All we can do is test and hope they get to something that people like. There is always going to be a segment of the population that doesn't like where they end up, but that will be for them to deal with.
Thats where the feedback is really important. As the inspiration for AOC is from mmos where their combat were a little lack lustre

On one hand it seems like per level would make sense, but on the other it would be kinda weird for a longstanding dwarven city to suddenly change into a human metropolis

Vassals work based on the surrounding nodes. They can be across region if they are next to each other and not already a vassal of another node

Resource spawning is going to be random. Once you deplete it it will spawn somewhere else

that's a bit impossible to answer since the zone of influences aren't static
they grow and shrink based on the size of the nodes
What about a ZOI of a level 5 or 6 node?
level 6 ZOI is around 1/5 the size of the world map
it will take hours to to traverse the entire map, so perhaps an hour
it does depend on the shape of the ZOI and the obstacles in the way, like oceans or mountains etc

if i pvp down a group taking on a boss will i be corrupted?
if they are non-combatants then yes.
so mobility becomes the crucial point then. to physically get to the boss and get the first tag. then if a second group wants the tag they either have to do 60% of dps or flag us

nothing. you can follow a group all the way through. they could always turn around and kill you, so there's that. same thing when you are on the boss, if another group shows up either out DPS them or kill them depending on what you think is the best.

it works for FFXIV and adds accessibility to the game, so it makes sense for giving people options for playing your game.
I mean, it does make some sense. You can use some buttons to swap between hotbars that use the rest of the buttons as the rest of the skills on the hotbar. It's like how you wouldn't think PKing on OSRS would work on a phone or tablet, but there are people successfully doing it.

Not usually, no. Although sometimes feedback makes its way onto the next dev update stream

Providing feedback is a double edged sword. On the one hand, players know what's going on, and feel like their voices are heard. On the other hand, every voice doesn't need to be heard, and the general public can sometimes design things that are way too far of a reach for a very niche audience within the community as a whole. Sure, they need to feel acknowledged, but sometimes their suggestions are a bit out there.
On the other other hand, some suggestions that do make it to live are good ones that are simplistic enough to be implemented in a way that doesn't negatively impact a dev cycle!

okie...question. So, with the class system i can bard-summoner, ranger-cleric, and fighter-mage. With my first class choice being a melee weapon type(fighter, rogue, tank) and my second choice being a magic type(mage, summoner) do i have to switch weapons depending which skill i'm using in battle? for exampe if i'm a fighter-mage combo, when i do a sword slash and transition to casting a mage spell would i need to change weapons? could i dual wield a sword in one hand and wand/spell book in other so i don't have to switch weapons? or could i still cast magic even tho i'm just dual wielding swords?

as jahlon said abilities come from the primary, and weapons for the most part are separate from your skills. there might be some exceptions (think shield bash) but any class can use any weapon
hrm. so if i go fighter-mage, my fighting abilities only come from the fighter side. and i guess the mage aspect would add some stuff, but not any new skills?
correct your secondary augments your primary skills. it doesnt add new skills
As far as I understand it your secondary class just "enhances" your abilities so for fighter-mage might give your sword slash a fire component for example (a guess really)

augments have varying levels of effects from simple changing damage types, to something like altering a fighter charge from a straight line charge stopped by a wall to a blink like "teleport" to the target that might ignore that same wall.

It was received semi poorly, but was mainly used as a way to test necessary systems I heard
i didn't play it but APOC was a BR mode made to test AoC combat. They released it as an actual game (while continuing to use it as a test) and people didn't receive it too well thinking AoC was turning into a cash grab and ditching the mmo idea for the latest "br craze".
It was just bad marketing and communication

@digital turtle your surname will probably change during your gameplay, since (from how i understand it) it's dependent on which family you're in. Families are groups of up to 8 players that get a few bonuses, and you can't change around willy nilly but you could end up with a different family name eventually then the one you picked at dreation

I see the point of that to make it so the other people in the family can make it to dungeons and/or events happening anywhere near those locations when they would normally need to walk/ride mounts many hours to get to those things. The node is going to have a leader/mayor and rest of players are living in this node - buy house, do quests, interact but you chose another mayor if he is bad. Everyone is going to contribute for developing the node
