Steven has said that he is confidant that they will be able to do 250v250 and wants to push that to 500v500 if possible

Steven has mentioned having devs from Planeside 2 which can have up to 1000 people in the same ish area which is why I'm hopeful and optimistic of what he has said about these numbers
Not that Planeside 2 really regularly has 1000 people in an area now but it does work
it all depends on how the back end works with the amount of tinkering they've done in the unreal 4 engine
Yep, hopefully what they have fixed on the back end due to what they found out from doing APOC has fixed any large issues and any problems are on the small side

So @idle siren spoke about not wanting combat metrics, which i completely understand, it adds a layer of mystery to the game and I can totally get behind that. What I can't understand is why isn't that same level of mystery being implemented towards PVP? Why can players see exactly what kind of gear another player is wearing through a buff? That takes the fun out of it imo and acts exactly like a combat metric for pvp. Am I missing something here or does anyone agree?

from what i remember in the middle of pvp fights your not gonan really be able ti inspect players that easily, so they have a "buff" showing what armor type they are wearing as well as a border of some kind to the "quality" if i remember due to the transmog system people can try and be sneaky snoos with full plate armour transmogs to cloth armour and trick someone into attacking them thinking they are weak
so its a way to combat that
well like in lineage 2 - carry a separate set of low-lvl gear
well yeah, thats the surprise and mystery of it, if I already know a person is wearing heavy because a system told me that, and i use a magic attack, how is that any different from any other combat metric

well that depends, you can only change weapons in combat or something like that. so you probably cant switch
what @subtle swan says if the person is in full plate and not transmoged then its obvs they have good physical defense. if they mog leather for looks its gonna be confusing and annoyng for people.

What im getting at though, is that everything is the game is designed around a trial and error system, according to Steven. I like this kind of system and i think it should also apply to PVP
all about visual profiles of armour form distances to help but the issue there goes from adding a transmog system so you have t have combat metrics to balance it out
It also ruins some of the player to player dynamic in the open world. If I know someone has WAY better gear than me i wont even try to fight them for the grind spot (hypothetically), but if theres no indication of what gear they have i might give it a try

It's just the Archeage system. If you've got time to scrutinize what someone's wearing and that can influence whether you even start fighting them, you had time to click on them and see what armor buff they have
Steven already said transmog wont be crazy, its still going to have the base look of the armor
what you guys wrote makes it sound like a dude in a robe (visually) can actually have same stats as the epic heavy armor set

If the game revolves around risk and reward, also around a trial and error systems, why shouldnt pvp be the same?

The buff being shown is fine, especially given that there's no obligation to go all heavy or all light. If people become that reliant on visuals, I'm going to walk around in a red herring chest piece and everything else as my main type.

There's a big difference between a DPS meter, which is something that you could do in your head if you were fast enough, and the game lying to you

@viral meteor materials are needed for building buildings within the node, that profit the zerg more than it profits other players
its in the interest of the zerg to see your node prosper
So I think we might just disagree on a fundamental level @subtle swan. I want players to try to attack me. Even if Im wearing gear 10x better than them, I want players to think they might have a chance. This metric will ruin PVP for players who are hardcore and surpass the majority in gear, because no1 will even attempt to attack them. a little boring imo

yes several of us have guilds that participated in APOC and have many Alpha 1 members. In general though a lot of guilds are playing other games as well in the meantime.

@oak bridge it was stated that even through transmog you will be able to click on a player and determine their strength through an icon by their health showing their gear type (plate/leather/cloth) as well as tier to decide on engagements it worked well in other games and shouldn’t be a problem here

what if I'm an elf and a friend has a dwarf. Everyone wants to start playing on their gateway but then we would like to play together. will it be difficult to meet if there are no portals? and how will it be quests?

@faint plover you can all start at the same divine gateway if you want. If not you could meet up later but that would take some effort due to no fast travel and the size of the map.

Well it probably wouldn't be very easy, and I am certain theyd have to gather materials to make the copies, the difficulty of which would be determined by what the blueprint was for, but it seems reasonable that one way the market can be provided with blueprints, which clearly everyone at some level will need at some point, is to have a scribe copy them

To be honest, my biggest concern is actually the looting the system. Ive never enjoyed loot that when dropped, the fastest person in the party to pick it up, dictates how its used, or who it belongs to. Which is usually themselves.
Ive also never enjoyed systems where valuable pieces are dictated by party leaders on something like boss drops. Systems like those don't create a fair and impartial system, and valuable loot gets handed to those who are the best friends leader.
D3 had a cool mechanic where when a boss died, everyone got their own pile of loot, that was invisible to everyone else.

Yes if neither of the parties tag it, however it seemed like if you tagged it, your percentage of damage threshold would be much lower to attain the same looting rights, whereas a competing party who didn't tag it would have to overcome that through sheer dps
I assume you just have to group with decent people. I was in a guild that used a smart system for raiding. In it you bid on items with gold and highest bidder won, however the smart part was that all the gold at the end of raid was split evenly across the group. That way even if you cant afford something you still get gold from it, so the more you raid the better chance you have at getting something. Rare drops always gave big payouts due to bidding wars, it was sweet.
yea GDKP is still rife in wow classic, plenty of people still use it 😛

yeah, he ment loot distribution after the fact not during the fight, I wasnt sure.
@molten needle You may be able to hire npcs to work on your freehold (not confirmed) There is no plan to have npc followers like some games (FF14) that take adventuring roles.

Cleric has an ability to cleanse toxic clouds, its been shown on a couple different streams
If you run through it without cleansing it, it acts like a dot

what we know thought is that auto-hit is going to be an additional "skill", so you have to use that always do maximize damage i suppose

If a ZOI gets enough exp to go from wilderness to encampent and there are 3 possible nodes in that ZOI. How does it decide which of those 3 nodes gets to grow?
And to add another question ontop of the first one. If all 3 possible nodes are of different kinds aswell, how do you exact influence so a military one grows in that ZOI?
The ZOI is the area of a specific node it only attributes to 1 node
So a ZOI can never contain more than one possible node?
After watching a couple of videos I got the impression a ZOI could contain more than one possible node

When the node grows its zone of influence grows and the smaller nodes become its vassals

So as it grows more nodes will be under its influence

There are no plans to make the game b2p. From inception they have stated that the monetization was going to be sub only with cosmetic only cash shop. You can have an opinion on what you like vs others. Won't change. But since weird stuff happens, gotta leave that smallest wiggle room.

How does movement and combat feel when you are playing? Feels very static very hampered by abilities, basic attacks? The feeling I've had from watching the videos has been that it feels quite hampered. Are there any plans to polish this system?
The movement and combat is not finalized. It will be changed greatly (hopefully for the better) by launch.

@crystal beacon u have well over 2 years till the game gets out of beta and if the sub is too expensive depending where u live they have reduced sub costs in like brazil for example but u get locked to that server as long as u have the reduced sub

Hey all, did the devs say anything about how big impact secondary archetypes will have on the primary? For example could I be a viable healer as a Rogue-Cleric, or should I expect only some self heals and sustain?
Self and sustain with a little mini heal otherwise. You’ll basically be a pocket sustainer
secondary archetypes only augment your primary skills, not grant you new ones. For example, a Rogue-cleric may grant you lifesteal to your attacks. But you wouldnt be able to heal others directly @spiral sphinx
So they will certainly have an impact and could change your overall game play in interesting ways.

If you want to be the group's primary healer, depending on the situation (such as a hard dungeon or raid), you may need to be a cleric. But there will be spots for off-healers as well such as a bard/maybe a summoner
Granted picking Cleric as your secondary will give you 4 different paths to augment(that we don't know) your Primary. At least that is what we have been told so far.
Soooo, I’m seeing that each race has a pair of what it can be...(EG) humans the Kalar or the Vaelune. One focuses kinda like French architecture and the other kinda Arabian ish. So the question is...if Kalar Humans control and give the most XP to the node can will it be the French architecture? If the Vaelune do will it be Arabian? Like does your “type” of human matter or is it just your race itself?
Each sub-race has its own architectural style
For example, the Dunir sub-race of dwarves is completely different than the Nikua, and that would be demonstrated in the architecture.

Seeet, gives the game a bit of a different feeling knowing each subclass of a race has their own type of gameplay and really makes who you are matter more.

Monks in D3 use staves, it really depends on how you as a player choose to play to fullfil that "role/class". Nothing besides the groups you play with stops you from wearing simple robes, use staves, and primarily do only divine node related stuff for example to fit that "monk" idea @ashen vault

That sounds right and they also plan it so that you will want to work with other people. IE fighter uses fire and mage does too so the fire damage might stack(fire ball does more damage to enemies already on fire)
Do we know if ranged combat is just calculated like how WoW works i.e. the damage is simply calculated when cast and the actual projectile is meaningless or will it have some kind of skill component and the projectiles be real physical objects? My first MMO Asheron's Call treated spells and arrows as real objects and the pvp combat that evolved from that became a really interesting and fun to play and master.
The current combat isn't set right now as they are looking at both hit scan and distanced based projectiles. Due to the combat being a hybrid of action and tab, there is a chance that depending on the skills/spells. They could be either way. @cobalt ore

I see that Ashes of Creation: Apocalypse had a progression system that involved the ability to earn cosmetics and things that translate over to the main game once it is released. Is there any information on if when AoC:A returns with castle siege that it will be the same ones to earn and progress with, or new ones? Personally I didn't even hear about AoC:A so didn't get a chance to earn them first time around.

There is exp debt for any death. You can't delevel from it, but the more you accrue it can impact your stats.
Loss of crafted items only comes into play when corrupted. A varying percentage based on flagging state when killed applies to gathered and processed materials.

You mean in game? When they are ready to release it. There are many different teams working on various things. When they get to a point that they feel comfortable with, we see them usually.

I have a question on looting mechanics. Are there going to be drops that are player-specific? As in, I kill a monster, and no one around me can hijack that loot?
Yes in that case. There is not individual loot in the way that other games do it that if you tag a boss you get your own little selection of loot. They could however just wait for you to loot it, then kill you and take a % of what you are carrying.
Only you will be able to loot it if you did the most damage. If you are in a party you will need to decide amongst your group how it will be split, as there is no personal loot in a group setting.
Im not a huge fan of that mechanic to be honest, because loot split is almost never impartial or fair. It would be hard to want to put what could potentially be game-changing loot, into the hands of a single individual to decide how to split it up. Someone always gets the short end of the stick and it creates disenfranchisement.
Be that as it may, that's one of the systems we know about. Master loot/party loot settings

There will be various options to choose from. If a group is using a method you don't like, then don't group with them.
There could be additonal systems at launch, but don't expect personal loot like in wow from bosses.

one is targeted, cannot miss, the other has to be aimed and it can miss

We want to be compliant with GDPR but when we read through it, it seems like you need about a dozen degrees in law and another half dozen in EU law to understand it. @crystal beacon It sort of depends on how good you are at aiming, but also, a targeted stun will usually be better and more reliable then an aimed one, so there is a balance there.

That means you can mix/match your gear
you can get 4 different bonuses, but there are 3 main types
You can get "set effects" by using same armor types. For example, a small health boost for using 4 plate pieces (not real, just an example), and maybe some spell dmg mitigation for having 2 cloth armor pieces.

for each heavy armor pieces you get hp buff if you are a tank. for medium armor. you need a full medium set on you. you can't use anything else for the bonus. it's mana and hp bonus

That seems to be accurate as we will get skill points we can allocate. We will need to wait for Alpha1/2 to be sure though

All we know about the Tulnar is that they will have some bestial traits but we don't know how much you'll be able to push those. @hearty dragon allies and enemies are mostly determined by player activities. A mayor might decide that a player (who isn't already a citizen of their node) becomes the enemy of his state, for example. There will also be some quests that have to do with the various organization, so like if you decide to join the Thieve's guild you might get quests that require you to go steal some documents from the Mage's academy, but I don't think it makes you an enemy of the other orgs, they won't attack you on sight as far as i know
There will be wars declared that will be out of your control, and dependent on guild/node leaders
This could make you appear as a combatant against enemy nodes/guilds even without flagging yourself (but a non-combatant to non-enemies)
We don't have a lot of detail on the religions and how they'll interact with each other, I'm assuming it might have some small limitations, like you might not be able to use certain NPC vendors of an other religion, but I doubt it would be anything really big like a full on faction in other MMOs since Steven has said he didn't like clear cut factions like that

@errant quiver there is a day night cycle and monsters will spawn at varying times of day. As for alternative behaviors I dont think anything specific has been mentioned at this time.
Weather will also play role in spawns as well as seasons which may effect elemental effects.

Will there be unique global trophies, cosmetics, or something similar to distinguish players that are the “firsts” of the game once it is fully released? For example, first player in the game to reach level 50 receives a special trophy for his/her freehold.

@charred sparrow there will be achievements for world and server firsts and many others. They have stated there may be titles and cosmetics associated with achievements as well so its likely.

Since choosing our base class is such a permanent step in this game is there any plan release prior to launch for the community to be able to preview the skills and skill progression of each class or will that be something we need to focus on during the alpha and beta period of release

i would most likely say you will get all your information for that within beta period. there is no NDA on i believe its alpha 2 and beyond, meaning everything on there will be public information.

So, this is gonna be a weird question but was there a large WoW player presence during the alpha of New World? I ask because I saw they pushed the game.back a year and stripped its PvP in exchange for more pve focus and saw some YouTubers saying "WoW killer" which is always ridiculous. I'm asking cause I see a lot of WoW player suggestions in this community and it kind of worries me that they could try to shift the games focus away from PvP. I doubt Steven would listen but, who honestly knows for sure?

@coral raven I think @idle siren has a pretty strong vision for the game, I doubt it would change away from PVP completely even in the worst case
@coral raven the difference between amazon games and intrepid is one has investors and other parties interested (amazon) so changes are sometimes forced into the dev cycle, where as for intrepid its all privately funded for the majority so no one can tell steven to change his game unless he wanted to (but he wont he is 100% set on the experience he wants to create and share)

If i would run a guild that has around 20 players would it be possible for us to do something in The game or would bigger guilds just bully us out of The server ?
It's possible for sure, just know that the really big events like world bosses will be contested. You may need to make alliances to compete
So joining bigger guild with the group would be better idea ?
from my understanding of the guild system is the guild leader will be able to choose between different benefits within there guild IE choose between some sort of benefit (no information yet) or increase guild member capacity. So while big guilds will have many players which will make it hard to contest world bosses or open world dungeons the smaller guilds will have other benefits.
Really depends on your server and where you end up settling, so hard to say this early

20 is on the very low end for a guild though.
Guild with no size increase will be 30 to 50, while big guilds will be around 300

im sure you could do that as a guild of 20 🙂 I'm sure there will be some benefit to being a smaller guild. Maybe more efficient at professions or something along those lines i can imagine some of the benefits will be. although there's no information on that yet.
Yeah and as someone mentioned making alliance with bigger guild and playing with them to kill world bosses etc could work
As if smaller guild get some kind of bonuses to combat we could technically be very strong at securing caravans etc

Is there a svg or vectored version of Verra? I am trying to learn a new programming language and thought it would be fun to try to make a stratego conquest (4-player CTF board game) simple web game that utilizes the map of verra. k, thank you. I've always wanted to try to make this damn stratego like game and only recently have had the motivation to give it a shot. One of my friends just suggested, I draw out some simple shapes and export them as svgs, to try just get something basic working. Later on I can try to replace them with something more resembling Verra. Won't spam here, but thanks again for the info.
certain kickstarter tiers unlock certain titles. but you can still use titles from lower tiers, right? you're not just locked into the one package you have?

They are looking for lots of little guilds to form alliances rather than have one big Guild. Big Guilds just end up being lots of bodies with few benifits, where guilds with less bodies have lots of benifits. So for large groups to have these benifits small guilds need to align

I understand that add-ons will not be allowed.
As a long time healer in WoW, having customisable raid frames that allow me to easily target party members (e.g. via mouseover macros) and see and react to buffs and debuffs is essential.
How customisable will the UI be, in particular party frames?
Moreover, will macros be allowed and, if so, how will they work? What will their limitations be?

Steven intends the UI to be very customizable and has stated that he will be keeping healers in mind for this. In past MMOs that Steven has played in, he played as a healer in addition to other rolls.

It's good to know that concerns like mine are being considered. I'm a bit of a UI obsessive and add-on fiend in WoW, but mostly that is a consequence of the standard WoW UI historically being terrible. It took years for basic features that were provided by add-ons to be incorporated into the base UI. Hopefully, this will be avoided in AoC given the personal MMO experience of the Dev team. One benefit of add-ons is that you allow the community to solve problems the Dev team didn't get time to address/think of addressing; however, I understand the decision not to allow add-ons like damage metres as it can pervert/misdirect the community experience.
I can't wait to get hands on experience and give feedback in respect of this!

If i remember right (on phone so can't double check), Steven said there wouldn't be any super obvious and easy threat meters so you would have to rely a lot on instinct and experience to determine your threat level
Obviously that is still subject to change during testing
im sorry if this has been answered already but are we able to buy consecutive cosmetic packs beforehand for massive early backer flexes? or is it once we've bought the game key we can't acquire more cosmetic bundles?
whatever tier of package you buy will entitle you to buy future cosmetics of that same level. so if you buy a tier that gives you a mount skin, you could buy future mount skins individually. here is a screencap of the store for the cosmetics (I have an alpha 1 package so I can access all of them) @jovial orbit

Not those exact skins though there may be future packs with similar themes or close to visuals. All packages on the store once cycled are gone.

I have a question about classes. As we know, AoC will be using trinity system, but what kinda irritates me is that, as I see, we have like 4 DPS, 1 tank, 1 healer, and 2 support classes? Am I correct by thinking like that?
Also, is summoner even a support or what is it, cus we know that summoner can summon 3 summons and 1 of each type, so is it a hybrid?
I'm just wondering if it's gonna be an even distribution between class directions or what's it gonna be?
summoner is a jack of all trades class, and you are correct the 4 dps, being rogue/mage/ranger/fighter. 1 tank, 1 healer, 2 support
the augment will shift some of the abilities with augments, but you are correct so far with your analysis.
okay. as I understood with augments that whatever class you pick(not cleric) if your secondary is gonna be cleric, you still wont be able to heal your teammates, you may get more sustain, but no group heal.
it kinda restricts core mechanic to one class, same thing with a tank, but I guess anyone can tank, just you can take less hits if you aren't a tank class.

What is the zerg busting potential for smaller guilds in AoC? There are MMOs like daoc where it was possible for a small group of specialized PvPers with builds that focused on group synergy to kill a group of people that were many times larger than itself. Is there a really small AoE cap in AoC? Is there zerg busting potential?
So if guilds focuses spending their "guild skill points" on membership (starts near a base of 30-50 members, goes to 300 max) they will not be able to allocate those to more defensive/offensive perks. So it could put them at a large disadvantage when it comes to battles depending on the perks. @steep pecan
@steady ocean That's interesting, I wonder if it will be good enough to make small guilds viable against much larger groups. I will just have to wait and find out more information about if there is an AoE cap, how long CCs last, and how many CC breaks there are. Got a group of people very interested in the game. there is very little we know about these kinds of mechanics yet
@steep pecan It will make an alliance of smaller guilds certainly be able to handle their own. Castle sieges will be 250vs250 as it stands now (subject to change), but if you can supplement your small guild size by inviting allied guilds to help defend/attack a larger guild, you could certainly have an advantage.
You could maybe break a big guild into smaller more focus guildbranches
@steady ocean I'm definitely excited to get back into an MMO with a vibrant guild politics system. However, I have a lot of fond memories of killing massive unorganized groups of people with many times less the numbers. I always think this is the mark of a great MMO. Very excited to see how AoC comes along.

If before you choose your parent artisan class you can do all 3 classes at a beginners level, can you still do the other classes at the same beginners level once you've chosen your parent class? Or does it lock you out via the skill tree? If that makes sense
I would assume that you can still do the beginner level :) It would not make sense that you "lost" the ability to do something from learning to do something else

@onyx knoll threat closer to Classic WoW's system rather than retail WoW's sounds perfect! Not having threat metres will also be exciting to try and use. Will depend on the sort of boss mechanics and pace of combat I think.

Another question about crafting professions: how does everyone feel about the imbalance of professions per artisan class? Crafting by far has the most and personally it makes the other two (processing, gathering) seem a little shoved to the side. Thoughts?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but:
- Gathering has 5 professions
- Processing has 4 professions
+Crafting has 10, or 8 if weapon and armor smithing come under blacksmithing
I get that you have more leeway with crafting, but having double the other 2 have seems a tad unbalanced
(As you told me) Cooking could be moved to processing and scribes can just be its own thing
Well, I don't think so. Because 1 material can be used in a multitude of things
Like wood can be used to make a dagger, but also be used in making a boat.
But that doesn't mean that a blacksmith who makes swords and what not, but does know how to make a wooden handle will also know how to make a ship.
My point was more of the fact that since you can master multiple professions under your artisan class, it's a little unfair that 1 has double the opportunity and choice than the rest
You're still left with a big divide in how many crafting has to the rest, its just weird to look at
