So can be level 50 and have the stats of a level 49, then 48, 47, etc.

@tranquil torrent the big difference is, you'll still be lvl 50, so you won't suddenly be unable to use or equip your lvl 50 gear 😛

So gatherables, iron ore, gets processed into iron bars (craftables) then iron bars into gear(completed crafts)
Potion is a completed craft, can't be dropped

Yeah I'm trying to find a quote for it too, the only thing I can find is that Steven never mentioned consumables as being a thing that can drop, only raw materials, and I know potions and food/drinks are considered consumables

No worries, probably something for a Q&A. This system seems to put gatheres and processors at a severe disadvantage especially with the whole risk/reward idea they are promoting.
You're certainly encouraged to not be JUST a gatherer or processor, if you never bother upgrading your pvp/pve gear as a gatherer, you'll need good friends that can protect you while you're out.

I do not believe so, but the last I heard they are still determining the inventory if it will be quantity, weight, or a combination of the both. So their decision could influence that

Ex.
Lower LvL Gear = was crafted (multiple times)
Higher LvL Gear = higher than normal stats for its' LvL (so higher than average) ... But still not higher than the (heavily) crafted gear

how are monster coins not gonna be abused? what forces a user to attack and destroy a city while he can just afk and be a loot pinjata?
you have objectives as the monster that you need to complete in order to get rewards yourself. also only a portion of the attacking horde will be people so the impact of a few AFK people wont be much. though that is a waste of a monster coin and that persons time.
will you be able to pick what city you want to attack with the monster coins? (just so you wont attack your own city, or an alliance)

there will probably be a ashes rp discord for eu,na and other reigons made by the rpers where they all have a list of their storys, and servers they choose to live in

i can see the rp community probably ramping up and deciding their servers as we enter beta 2 thats when my guess is that communitys will be made of discord for that specific thing
in every mmo i've seen that doesn't have rp servers designated by the developers the community ends up picking an unofficial rp server on their own
although this game is based on group contents, is there any contents for the solo types of pvers, such as hidden boss with rare loot that can be soloed ?(exemple = mist mane area in Aion, or maybe BDO in the few weeks ive played). Most of the lore will not be shared with us so that we have to play the game to experience it. Some general stuff might be given between now and release but that is up to AoC people

Oops, I meant if layouts like Colemak will be supported by default without having to change keybinds in the settings. So WARS is seen as WASD but typing in chat isn't changed if that makes sense.
Someone brought up a really good point about "sub sandwhich armor" in another channel. Say we are out on an adventure and we brought with us a sandwhich, will there be an option to have a metal plate armor to put the sandwhich into so it doesn't leak on the ground potentially attracting animals and keeping them from biting the sandwhich directlty? It would be very interesting having food armor and sturdy metal worked mugs that protect our drink from other players

there will be unique loot that can only drop from a specific unique mob... not sure about non-unique loot
there are unique pieces of loot per dungeon, but even beyond that the loot tables of the dungeon are affected by the type and level of the nodes in the area.
Since Steven said there will not be any level scaling (Think current WOW) how will zone lvls work? Will the higher lvl nodes have tougher mobs or will the mobs get tougher the farther you go out from a starting area? In addition, will the lvl scale be mixed heavily from node to node in order to spread the pop out if it isn't done like the others (ie the last sentence)?
From what I've heard as the node levels certain portions of the zone will scale up in difficultly. Along with dungeons spawning that get more difficult the further you delve, so a group of lvl 10 can only get so far but a group of 40s could go deeper

@gleaming bridge first part of your question, yes, areas will level up from node advancement, and farming areas will change according to the node.
Second part, yes, dungeons will have harder mobs and better loot the farther you go in a dungeon

True. But that's the whole point of the game lol. At the very least, people will be moving around multiple nodes a lot. In order to get specific thing they need, and if the nodes they are at get destroyed
And seeing as there will always be a diversity in node level due to some being blocked from leveling by higher nodes, there will always be content for every player

I think the idea is that higher level nodes simply get better things to do, but to make room for these things, they move farming areas around, and have lower level areas be available no matter what the level of the node is

And I'm almost 100% sure they will have trade routes, but they will be player created. With caravans becoming a thing, I can see people making artificial highways, and have mercenary guilds set up camps near the roads to protect the caravans

The game is balanced around the group. So the tank has loads of CC which is great in group PvP if you don't have any damage you can't kill people in 1v1 situations.

What about the other Kickstarter tiers that had alpha phase 1? Mage/Mage will hit harder. When you deviate from pure class you trade some damage for a form of utility.

What is level scaling? No mobs actually exist at your level to fight you?
Some utility abilities might net you more total dps in certain situations .
@gleaming bridge won't be for awhile, but metas will form. They always will. Though it will definitely be different than other mmos, as each server will be different, and with the environments/other damage types changing up the game
Level scaling is a level 10 will fight a mob at level 10 but a level 50 will see that same mob as a level 50 ect.
Honestly this is going to be a hard one to nail down since there are so many stacking augments with gear having a decent impact. Plus the wide range of talents and weapon specialty you can go. Its going to be a million builds and its not easy to just swap.

Its set up as the node progresses stronger mobs come in from outside away from town.

And each subsequent node level below max will have some arbitrary cap until the max node is destroyed

One of the higher tier Kickstarter package rewards was guild cloaks and barding, I imagine there'll be other ways to show it in game too
On the wiki it says there'll be a bunch of ways to display the guild emblem; cloaks, shields, banners, ship sails, armour attachments, mount boarding

so there is spell collision and you would be able to dodge some spells and some ranged attacks but lets say a melee user would you be able to step out of the way of the animation and not get hit
cause i was playing albion online and a melee guy could swing at you and you could be walking away and be 10 meters away but when the animation finishs you get hit
I wonder if they're going to make it so when you get shot by a ranger there'll be an arrow in your armor for a period of time to make it look as if you actually got hit with an arrow

seeing node status for the whole world would be immersion breaking, seeing the node status on your local node would be more logical, the app will allow you to manage your recourses and such.
hello guys i have a question, just saw Peons video, and he talked about, that i could only truly master one Artisan class. Does it mean i can master only one out of gathering processing and crafting, or can i master one in each section for example, i could master logging for gathering, smelting for processing and weapon crafting for crafting ?

We do not know yet, how it will work and the information we have currently might change over the course of the Alphas, so take it with a grain of salt.
With that being said:
Right now, the latest information we have is, that you can master all the professions within one of the 3 trees (gathering, processing, crafting) through a very significant investment of time.
The other 2 trees will stay on a basic level in that case

Hi. I have read through most of the wiki, and searched Reddit and the FAQ. But I am still left with a, in my optic, fairly important question concerning sieges; In the higher tiers of a node, there can be a siege notice period of a week. In this period I am unable to withdraw our transport raw and processed materials, for the siege to come. Am I then locked out of crafting until the siege is done, because my materials are locked? And what about the materials I collect and processin the notice period, are these also locked?
If you attack non combatant (they dont fight back) and deal like 95% dmg and mob comes in and last hits him, do you still become corrupted?

If it is just the storage that is locked. Does that mean processing is almost instantaneous? meaning the raw materials is processed directly to your inventory, like in wow. And not being processed e.g. in the smelter over time, like in Rust or Minecraft
Can you then only smelt one kind of raw material at a time in a smelter. Because if i get my hands on some rare materials, it sounds like the best course of action, is to leave it in the smelter untill i find a use for it, so it doesn't get locked in storage during a siege

C: also, if you are proficient enough to gather the rare material, then you probably are a gatherer, not a processer to smelt it
Well, if i ventured into a dungeon and the boss dropped some rare mats that one of the party members could gather, wouldn't the MMO mindset be that these were to be shared among the participants. Thus gaining mats.
Is the storage also locked towards depositing? If so all the players, not just the paranoid ones, will be fat little piggies running around with heaps of raw and process materials, with nowhere to put them, because you can only deposit in your in-node housing or free hold, during the siege notice period. The same goes for hunting certificates, if the caravan system is also out of commission during this period

First off world PvP can make you drop and loss mats upon death, so you dont want to carry all your mats with you. Two, storage is base on region, you would just have to travel to a different node to deposit your materials into a different storage space.

no it doesn't. It never has. People would just grind the dungeon/boss over and over till they found a piece that has the stats they want on a value they want
it essentially only adds frustration to the process

Does anyone know if any of the legendary armor or weapons will have any type of animation? maybe the armor can transform differently when going into battle? You know, how guild wars 2 has those beautiful legendary weapons and armor that have special animations.

Yes but again it provides no guild benefit even if they're the mayors, it's just a place of residence and a hub for tools/quests/stores and content that anyone can utilize, as the node grows more people will join and the scale may tip to normal citizens outside of the guild @shut geode
In regards to headstart advantages, it was discussed quite a bit couple days ago, and Steven chimed on, currently main advantages would be the ability to level a bit (which isn't relevant for A LOT of progression in the game, and without nodes it will be grinding only), and the ability to get a head start at reaching some remote node just travel wise.
As we get closer to release they are likely to continue iterate on exactly what will be available for head start to not make it too advantageous, and it would only be a few head start servers, rest non head start
In crafting are there going to be tags for the crafters of an item and is there going to be a naming option for a weapon or are the preset names for every item that is unchangeable

@shut geode if the mayor of said node sets a tax at 100% you might not want to stick around... if the node type is say Divine but you need to progress your quest line through economic nodes you might want to change citizenship to another node... if this node gets too big and blocks nearby nodes from growing you might want to change citizenship and join in the attack of your prior home to delevel the node and thus allow other nearby nodes to grow
but if you are happy with your mayor and node type, then sure, it is in your interest to protect your home
does the food buff from a tavern freehold work in dungeons/raids?
Depends. Normal food that you just happen to eat in a Tavern buffs as it always does. There is some special tavern food and drink, this just works in the proximity of the tavern.
will those buffs work in instanced dungeons aswell? asuming that the taven is close to the instance
Instanced? Probably not, because instanced is essentially in a world of its own.
If it's out in the open world, generally speaking, once you go out of the tavern's proximity, the buffs will be available for a short period of time before it is gone.

I have 2 questions. 1. Does gear lose durability during death if it's in your bag? 2. Is the Exp Debt, accrued by death, separate from the Exp bar? such as being lvl 15 with 5% exp, after dying being lvl 15 with -15% exp. I understand you cant delevel.
Not necessarily exclusively for those without any package, but for the sake of simplicity, yes.
Since there is a kickstarter tier which allows the reservation of one character name (Pioneer ($100)), then it would suggest that all other character names would be required to be registered at the same time as those without any kickstarter package.
The reason I bring this up, is that Founder ($150) kickstarters have a perk which grants them a 1-day head start to launch. This would make it so that they would be able to create all of their character names one day before those without Founder+. For those with a 2-day head start, it would be the same scenario.
I will reiterate my question above and hope that the context will assist someone in understanding what I'm trying to ask.

@real sleet we don't have a ton of info on player-generated quests. We know there will be something like that in player-run taverns but we don't have a lot of details. Might be a good question to try to ask during the next Q&A! ^^

i know this is a question for later but.. like many others im an ex wow player, not for the giant new trend of quit wow cuz we are mad at them tho. i disliked their storyline changes and world changes since cata and slowly went downhill till i quit in legion. but one thing i gathered about video game knowledge and the lifespan of a game is that it needs a good new player experience in place to keep new players interested in the absence of a hype train. 2 years after launch what is going to be around bring new players in, and what is going to keep them playing.
question 2 how deep will the storyline of ashes go?

This game will be fairly different then other MMOs, the starting areas will be relevant for higher level content as nodes evolve, and the low-tier materials will eb required to craft high-tier stuff, so as a new player you won't be walking into a dead zone when you start later, there will be stuff for you to do in that zone, but there will also be stuff for high level folks so it'll feel alive. You will also be able to make money with the mats you gather as you level since everyone will have use for them.
- No idea, they don't want to release a lot of info on the lore since they want people to discover it once the game officially launches.

@reef osprey im sure as many others have also seen b4, some games in the past had a bad trend to update the game for maxed players leaving players who havent even started playing yet out of the equation slowly destroying the ability for new players to start. thats why i was wondering about the new player experience.
That leads me to a question, what will keep making players to sieges cities (nodes/castles) overtimes if they did all of the content, years after launch? DLC might be my short answer hm

b) stall spaces will be very limited, Shops more common. Having a solution for a crafter to buy ressources without being online will be needed.

The reference of the job function spiked my interest. But I will have to wait and see. As a potential casual craftsman the aquisition of ressources without endless travelling is of utmost importance. buy orders would make this much easier.

So the artisan classes are locked into one of the major paths (gathering, processing, crafting)... but I’m assuming this is character slot specific? Like, could I have a gathering character and mail items to my processor?

you could have all the artisan jobs on one character, you just wouldn't be able to master all of the 3 main paths
so your processor could still gather low-tier mats himself

But its intended to promote socialisation, so you need to interact with other people who have mastered different things
So people will come to you if your master in a specific crafting art.
I mean technicly you could make just a lot of alt, but thats not why the system is in place
My ideal endgame status would basically be “that’s the guy that you go to for the absurdly rare endgame item that there’s only 2 of. Or yeah he breeds dragons for castle sieges. Not many of those guys around”

you're encouraged to, but teeeechnically you don't NEED to with enough alts, but yeah the idea is to make a name for yourself as a master of a specific thing and create a network of players that come to you fro that specific thing

Ok, so this is mostly for people at the studio as I don’t think this has been mentioned yet, but I could be wrong. The question is, is there going to be a way to change the appearance of gear (like base color) dye or streaking or a painting feature? Would be good for casual players who generally just want to change it up, as well as role players (such as a shady sneak) to change his clothing black as he leans against a wall to make deals for money hehe
There will be dyes yes
if something is a "costume" it wont be able to be dyed because it is meant to look a certain way (something like Order of the White Lion having a set look) but most other things will be able to be dyed.

there is cross species discovery to be had, though it wont be infinite.
@lapis sonnet and dominant and recessive genes will play a role in your breeding... also, it's not just mounts that can be bred... livestock and combat pets too

Yes, as that is the basis for the animal husbandry profession. They breed and raise pets/mounts for sale.
most will be tradeable as they are part of the animal husbandry system. there may be some that are locked but they would be the exception

@crystal beacon depend on what performance you seek. Should be fine, but it really depends on your expectation. By the time the game releases they will probably migrate to UE5 and the recommended specs for UE5 systems will probably serve. More RAM could be of benefit but at this point it's a guess.

They've said that they are aiming for minimum requirement 5 years before w-e year the release will happen. So if the game comes out in 2022, then you'd need hardware from 2017 to run it. That might give you a general idea. We won't have specific system requirements until much closer to launch
16gb of ram is normally more than enough ram and the ryzen 5 3600 is very capable, i dont know the rx5700 very well but look to see if you have any Unreal 4 games and try them out on different settings, wont be a great benchmark considering optimization for a mmo will be different than any other unreal game out there but it will give you a starting point
@unreal zealot with 500 people (since he mentioned 250v250) and the amount of cosmetics available RAM could be a small bottle-neck for all the textures, spell effects, etc. Obviously you can dial it back but I would go with 32gb if it's doable. Personally i run 128gb on my PC but it's overkill.
large scale combats usually have the option to disable all gear rendering
and reduce spell effects to a minimum
but what if I want every speck of dust rendered in glorious combat... I want to see the spit being knocked out of their mouth... 😛

these nodes exist outside the normal node system
correct they can grow up to the village stage (3) and do not have things like citizenship, ZOI, freeholds, government or social orgs.
So it all belongs to the guild
Its just more places for the guild to build buildings
yes and the guild has to develop them as part of their defense, and it will likely take more than just the single guild to fully develop them. the guild will likely need to reach out to the broader community to get them that far.

I really don't think that exact of a hit box really matters. Most action skills usually have a kind of cleave area where the ability hits. The only case i can think of is maybe rangers but even that will probably be forgiving.

other than a "sniper" skill for a bow i can see the arrows having some sort of auto target when within a certain range of the target while still making it possible to miss
Action combat more like aiming based target selecting
for fast moving projectiles (like the arrow from a bow) they tested both hitscan and projectile as part of APOC. you will very likely also have a tab targeted version of some of those bow shots, but at either reduced damage or effect (tab target not having hard CCs for example)
I had a question about the champion for the military node.
1)Is the armor and weapons used by the champion the same as players?
everything for your champion was described as being part of the quests to raise the champion so fully contained on its own.

no, everything for the champion is contained to that system. outside gear, would not be part of that
