if you're talking on augment/enchantment there has been no mention of increasing or showing a flat magic resist number that can be added to an armor

I’d assume they would only be for sieges but time will tell, I don’t think we have the details on that yet
Pretty sure Steven said somewhere that enchantment will cover situational weak spots, like you can enchant your weapon to do holy/light damage instead of fire. It would make sense if this was also applied to armor. Maybe not have alot of general magic resist but have the ability to have a set of fire resist gear or the like.
How will the game fair for solo players, duo players or small groups of players? Will we be dead in the water without joining a guild, or are we still able to compete at a top end level by having different gameplay styles and taking part in different activities? For instance, can a solo player that spends most their time ganking still thrive? The family grouping sounds interesting, what is the player number cap for a family? ty

This is an MMO so the likelihood of solo play getting you to endgame gear is pretty low

they've already said that the legendary craftable gear on par with legendary gear drops come from the legendary world bosses
it's a small chance for a completed item to drop, and a larger chance for a mat to drop
They said that the raids won't be the only place to get complete endgame gear, as in i need to kill this boss for this chest piece. Instead they drop ingredients to be crafted into the gear of choice
Thats how crafting is staying relevant, not if I go mining for a few hours i can get gear equal to what a raid could get me.

Say you have a house in a node that's destroyed by siege. I understand you can lose the unprocessed items from that home, but what happens to the home itself? I'm not clear on what happens to the node when it's defeated. Does it instantly go back to a 0 node?
the house is destroyed
the node goes back to level 0
and you get a saved template of your furniture layout
from what I've seen yeah, if your node gets beat it goes to 0

after a node is destroyed
a freehold can be destroyed in a 2 hour timespan
you can also defend your freehold
if your freehold is destroyed, you lose your unprocessed materials
but template of your freehold with your furniture and completed items will be mailed to you

So, in order for your node to grow to the last level, you must de-level every surrounding nodes, did I get that right? In that case, wouldn't it be a huge pain for landlocked nodes that ends up surrounded by last-level nodes, compared to costal nodes? Won't then costal nodes be stronger by default, or is there any balance about it?
I believe you only de-level the highest node in your surrounding to get your node to the highest level

@rotund flume depends what lvl your node is, if it’s 4 then you’d have to take out the adjacent 5 node then the 6 th
"The territory expansion algorithm takes into account the nearest coast, neighboring nodes, and the heatmap of the players in surrounding areas over the last week of months" so maybe there is a way they balanced the coastal/land nodes

When a freehold gets "destroyed"/looted if the zoi is taken over by another lvl 3+ node is the freehold spot free to be claimed by anyone or does the original owner get to just repair/rebuild?

The statement we have on destroyed is that it is mailed to you along with your setup, so yeah, going with gone.
Would have to go to the new node that the zoi falls under probably to get the permission to place it again.
If it survives the after siege party, then it would persist unless the zoi shrank.
That makes a fairly good incentive to loot certain freeholds then. Open up a better spot to set yourself up.
True, would turn it into a race again. Cause so far the system outlined is at level 3 you need to buy a certificate from the controlling node to get permission to place. So if your old node goes poof, and your freehold destroyed, you are going to have to figure out which one is in control and then get permission again. We know that ZOI and node borders are not going to be displayed on the map, so could be interesting.

Yeah, like you try to place it and says "Invalid placement, you must have permission for X node to place."
By the time we get to that point it won't surprise me of there is an interactive map that shows you the zoi of diffrent nodes at diffrent stages (player made)

So if you want an action combat playstyle, you can dump your build points into skills that encourage action combat, and though you'll still have a few that are based on tab targeting you can probably find a few you want anyways.

Yep. Numbers are for example only. If you had 100 SP, you could put 75 into action and 25 into tab. Or 50 into each or any mix. Just not over 75% into one.

There is a give and take to open development that Steven has gone over. At a certain point they will rip the band aid off. (this fall actually) and let people see the A1. And there will be a small subset of people that just don't get that it is an alpha product and will REEEEE to the high heavens what a piece of shit Ashes is. You get a bad haircut. You know it is a bad haircut, but as it grows you will look awesome down the line. But people telling you how shitty your haircut is still hurts even if you laugh it off. The trick is developing that thick skin to not give a shit, or at least appear to. True Alpha game reveals are the same. Steven just needs to insulate the team from those that want to crouch over and take a massive shit into the punchbowl.

Yep, they got it locked down. You will be able to gear your alts, but they will need to be local to you.
When a siege is declared moving things out of storage is limited/ stopped. Is moving things into storage still an option at that point?
I'd hate to have to stop farming because a siege is a week away and I can't store my goods anywhere.

The crafted weapons or armor will have different stats ? I mean that if you make 10 weapons with the same same all of them will have different stats
@indigo obsidian yes, you will have wheels and kogs where you as a crafter can exactly define what kind of stats you want on your item
increasing the fire resistance, might for example decrease the cold resistance etc.
it might also depend on the materials you use
Will there be mounted combat? ; And also will their be jousting? ; I think it'd be prty cool if guilds could do mounted tactics when fighting another force, it would add a whole new dynamic to the game. Admittingly a bit hard to balance potentially.

@lime kayak well tbh Within PVE 80% of PVE content is open world with 20% instanced and all dungeons and raid stuff will be shown within the world as nodes develop and they will just pop out of the ground and grow as the node progresses Not sure if the Dungeons avaliable will be the "raids" or the Raids are what will be in the instanced But they will Grow in dificulty and scale up with how good u destroy the bosses

Regular players have two "slots" available. One cosmetic pet, and the other slot is combat pet, or mount, or mule. Those in slot two have combat abilities while summoned. So while you won't be jousting, your bear, for example may have a swipe that it does. Combat pets, mounts and mules also have a levelling system, so there may be a way to add more abilities, though that has not been confirmed. Summoners get a third slot. Which is where their summons will go.

With the skins on all these founder packs.. Are they only for founder packs? Or will they make an appearance in the cash shop at launch/some time after?

We were told "Buy now or lose out! One and done!" so if they were to re-release skins they would get huge blowback from exactly the people that buy that product. Not a good plan.
@sacred rune Those skins, though purchases are limited. Funds the game a lot more than people might think. They may spend $1000 on the man power to make the skin, but at $25 per after the 40th purchase it's pure profit at that point. If even 10% of the just the kickstarter backers buys a that skin it's a $47,940 profit.
I know the margins and stuff but it is still a fair bit of next-to-wasted content. And by reused I meant reskinned or whatever, as you put it in your first response.
You will see close in game, but not exact. The otter was given as an example. Not that shade of purple and that barding would not be available. There will be tons of ways to customize.

Multiple streamers have referred to "Ranger" as "Archer". This seams at odds with the ability of every Archetype to equip any gear. Is there the possibility of a melee Ranger? Similarly, is making a reasonable number of skills non-weapon specific on the Dev radar?
yaa, i feel like its counter-productive to say one could equip anything, but then add gear specific skills to classes...
they can equip anytihng but races and the main arch type will have bosnus passives i assume to armour types and weapon types

They would be for large shipments but remember risk vs reward the larger the ship the more likely to be attacked
Sounds better to me to have a merchant class ship or mods for galleons that allow you to load the merchant caravan on to move over the ocean.

Trading is a core aspect of a game with a player driven economy so yeah its kind of unavoidable

@oak depot probably not after a year since there are 103 nodes and it takes aroudn 2 months to raise a node to metro and nodes wont immediately fall once the content has been "beat" so it will likely take much longer.
Well let me ask my question in a different way... will content progression be deterministic? Meaning, if I see Server A has achieved unlocking Dungeon XYZ by setting up their Node Structure as "this type with this stage here, this type with this stage there, that over there... etc" and I want to unlock this same Dungeon XYZ on my Server (Server B), can I do it by just replicating what I saw on Server A?

@low path to add to that answer, the type of node progression that grants access matters. so if 4 nodes could all grant access to the same dungeon and each was a different type you could have different loot tables. So if Node A was a scientific node that got raised to level 3 and that unlocked the dungeon you may have loot tables that prioritize crafting materials, instead of something else.

I've been wondering about respawn in general. With travel times being an importance cog in the system, have they decided where respawn locations will be?
There are many respawn points scattered around the map, if you look at the dev footage they showed during the last streamed update, you can see some they're like big white crystaline features floating a few feet up the ground
So if you die in the middle of a dungeon area you'll respawn at one of the nearby ones

In this image from your video, A enslaved B, B enslaved C, and C is blocking D (not sure if it's a 100% guaranteed block from advancement or not). 1) Doesn't A also enslave C and D? 2) Can't A be the parent of D and thus allow it to grow from Wilderness to Expedition or is the blocking for of C so strong it disallows it?

the fact Steven himself said on topic of replayability and why Node Sieges will be need is so people can delevel certain node types and thus advance others so they can unlock new content. This is only possible to do with intelligence if we have some form of knowledge of how the system works (or at least can learn how the system works by trying different things and seeing consistent causal effects.
Again, not the place for this. But will throw it out there that maybe they want that to be random too. You know what content you got and are getting rid of, but not what content you might get. Could be you blow up a perfectly good metro, level another one, and find out nothing has changed or you didn't get anything new.

@grim venture a mansion in a metropolis is going to be large, but the styling and context of what you asked is likely not possible, it will just be an extremely large and nice house, not a fortress or castle look.
The instanced housing is apartments in the nodes. ESO is able to do that huge stuff and use the houses as a currency sink because everything is instanced.

@long gust thats a massive topic that would likely better fit on the forums. They are building a tremendous amount of monitoring in to the structure of the game for pattern detection and the game will have live GMs on the servers that can investigate reports as well. But its more complicated than that even.
Only that they have been working on it since inception. There are several known and unknown systems that have been built in from the beginning to allow them to see every transaction, every trade, every item earned and such. They have at least two third party vendors working with them that focus on how to stop gold selling, botting, and RMT. And the list goes on.
Do we know what rarity of gear, weapon and accessories will be? like if the most powerful gear etc well be named World class or something like that?
@simple ether That’s not a particularly nuanced take. Saying “so and so is banned” is not a reliable path to preventing it from consuming your game. The implementation is the important thing.

no support for macros, addons or api calls also severely limit the botting. But you are going to have a hard time finding details as stopping botting and RMT has to be kept closed to help prevent it from being circumvented.

@past pewter keep in mind that scribe is currently listed as a potential profession, some of the original comments about scribes got absorbed into the library special building. So it may either change quite a bit or be cut depending. Very little was known in the first place.

@compact bluff in most cases with Kickstarter and early development backing, consumer protection laws have failed to actually get people their money back. That's why I say people need to go in to it assuming that money is gone. YMMV but I don't think anyone should going in naively thinking if it doesn't work they will magically get their money back. I say this having dropped money for alpha 1 myself.

Not known yet, but I can't imagine it's not an option in Unreal.
And what about regional prices? I live in Russia so I can easily hype up my friends because there is Russian translation, but pricing can be questionable. In CIS regions there are usually half-pricing with region lock, but I read that there will not be region locks, so...
They have said if a region has harmonization available it will be optional. If you choose the cheaper sub price you will be locked to CIS servers. If you dont, you will currently be locked to My.Games EU and CIS.
But they have announced no regions currently getting harmonization for sure.

Awesome. Just to clarify, so steel can have varying attributes such as, malleability (just using that as a placeholder for something else). Can two nodes have steel with different malleability levels, thus presenting 2 different stat end products?
we don't have that level of detail yet as the system is still very early, but they did talk about how only the best gatherers would be able to get top tier raw ore, and that you would need an equally skilled processor and subsequently crafter to not ruin that material through the process.

@simple ether when I mentioned the nodes I just meant to different nodes in different areas. The node is irrelevant. In galaxies, you could harvest steel that had eight separate attributes that all contributed differently to the weapon you produced.
Based on those attributes you could wait a weapon to have higher DPS or higher durability or some other variable.
These notes randomly rotated around the planets so they were for all intents and purposes never in the same place twice and you had to search for those resources. Then sampled them to see if that was the resource you wanted.
@eager verge crafters will have the ability to modify stats on the gear they create and they will have different levels of quality for raw ore, but they have not talked about that much detail for stats on ore. so its involved and customizable but not to that level from what we know right now.
I as an a former video game industry animator, I can't wait to see how the animations come together. I hope they smooth things out and polish the overlapping action.

@eager verge part of it will be in sourcing hard to get mats. some mats only come from high end raid content, and there will be high competition for high quality gatherable as well since the supply will be more limited. Beyond that they have mentioned having some recipes be exclusive for a period of time if found. as well as the variants you can unlock through social orgs and quests.
I'm sure a common question asked but what is the purpose of allowing multiboxers. From my experience allowing players to multibox can have a huge affect on average player enjoyment. It is possible with enough accounts you can have a fairly dominant control over a certain resource in a node just by having multiple bodies able to collect the rare resource. Making a monopoly and people who are also masters of their profession struggle progress it. As well in combat there is significant advantages of being able to hold areas based on your huge number of bodies you control to completely destroy any player wishing to try to contest your resources you're farming. I have a lot of experience against multiboxers in different games that allow it and it seems that the only positives it entails is for the user who can not only afford multiple subscriptions but PC capability to run that many instance making it feel pay to win when it isn't directly pay to win. A lot of the pros are only towards the multiboxers themselves while the average players it is almost entirely a negative experience. I'm just trying to understand what reason to allow multiboxers that is positive on the community as a whole and to the average player base rather than appealing to that specific demographic. Does it go beyond monetary game or perhaps there are systems to help solve problems multiboxing almost always accumulates. Genuinely curious as someone who is interested in buying one of the premium prepurchases of the game. My only major complaint.

@eager verge nope you just need to know the right people. You can't obtain all the mats yourself so either a guild or connections to other specialists is needed. It build interconnectedness in the economy.

TLDR; There isn't really a reason to allow it, it's more they can't ban it. There isn't a way to detect if a single person is using 2 PC versus two people using a PC each. @dense breach They're banning the obvious uses of it, like macros and scripts but you can't really IP detect accounts since it could be families, dorms etc.

On paper you could have one giant 10k player group organized outside of the game and control the whole server. That's never gona happen but I don't think there is anything that technically prevents it. Would be hella boring tho, you'd be killing like 60% of the game if everyone is on the same side

How is Ashes going to handle player auctions and gold buying? How will that be handled and monitored or will it be?
@simple ether They recently mentioned that coastal fishing will be different from deep-sea fishing, so we'll probably have to fight the deep-sea monsters for resources. Any insights on the possible differences between fishing as a gathering profession and the combat/farm based fishing? That can apply to other gathering professions as well.
They are building in monitoring for all transactions and activities and automatically detecting anomalies in addition to in game GMs. @eager verge

@eager verge they will be monitoring in game metrics and banning both the seller and the buyer. Not to mention that without macros supported by the game and no follow mechanics botting is also going to be easier to detect. Its a big focus and something they are building in from the ground up. It wont be eliminated entirely but with how aggressive they are being it will have very limited impact to the economy also because they will be banning the buyer as well.

@eager verge right, they'll basically have an AI that monitors all trades and flags potentially suspicious ones. So for exemple if someone trades you a ton of gold for a rock, then the AI flags it. A GM would then take a look at it and look at the circumstances surrounding the trade. The person that traded you is someone you have many hours of played time with, who has been in your guild from the start? Probably a friend or family, carry on. The trader is someone you never interacted with? Then they'll look in deeper and potentially ban you and the trader

@weak mantle I’ve been playing AA on and off for 6 years. We have some very resourceful players with diabolical schemes ready to go. I’m sure they’ve already drawn up plans for Ashes.
@slate thicket currently there are no number on potential limits of freeholds, tho they would end up being limited by just available space in the world since they take physical room around the node's zone of influence. So the amount will probably depend on where the node is, what the environment is like, if there are too many mountains you'll have less, where as a node mostly of plains might have room for more
Mage/Mage you could (theoretically) put an elemental augment in a Firebolt and make it a "Frostfire Bolt" spell that burns and slows
@viscid ermine Again, we doN't have the list of what augments do at the moment so that's really hard to answer but the way we understand it mage/mage would be less versatile them most other combos but very strong at mage things. Potentially glass-canon style

We don't have a lot on the orcs or Tulnar, but orcs looked larger then humans from the concept art and Tulnar are said to have "bestial qualities" w-e that will mean visually

you can add more dps to your kit by picking up a dps secondary but bard is a support class so it will never be on par with at dps role.

I got a question about hitboxes. what measures are taken to balance combat hitboxes between smaller and bigger characters?

Basically, you get a pack, you can then get any of the future options under that pack separately. Get the mount pack now, and you can get the future mount by itself, should you like it enough

Moving slower is a balance issue, the only thing I see is if there are headshot mechanics for a ranger. You'd have to shoot above the dwarfs head if everyone shared the same hit box for that

It wouldn't be an increase to speed, dwarfs and smaller races would simply be slower. And because they are slower, they also get more damage and smaller hit boxes.
In the description of the dwarf race on the wiki, it does already say dwarfs are among the strongest members in the world
