I know that all node locations and types are going to be predetermined. Are the guild castle locations predetermined as well?
Also, is there currently a map of the game world showing node locations?
Castle locations won't change so yes predetermined. We don't have node map yet only speculation ones.
Awesome. Probably not going to try and run a political game... most likely going to find a profession when the game releases...
But, such information would be nice for coordinating an alliance if I chose to go for royalty status.

Question concerning the architecture of the freehold buildings: The architecture in a node is dependable on the race that contributed the most to it this I know. But how will this be for Freehold buildings are they also influenced by the node? Or will they have a the architecture of your personal race?

As far as custom images go the theory is that since it is sub based then people will be less likely to attempt to add images they should not. Obviously there will be people who break the rules but progression steps will be taken for those who break the rules

@drifting idol Well, in worst case scenario you could use EXIT LAG, or VPN to play US Beta to know the game and then transfer account to EU before or after launch, I mean, that could be possible. But that purely speculating and I actually dont like my.com distributing the game in EU, but that is not our decision :/

Will certain mounts be required to explore certain regions of the map? Say scaling a mountain would require Mountain Goats or something? I already know about Water mounts to cross oceans and Mole mounts for underground but I was curious how required would animal husbandry be required as an explorative profession.

i the game i played your carravan was getting attacked by NPC the more goods you packed in so you only was able to do smaller runs by yourself and needed help for bigger runs even without thief players

Well if they nearly solo the caravan and kill you they won't beable to walk off will all the rewards so you may be able to grab some of the caravan back

they loot certificates for goods which they will have to deliver to the caravan origin.
You can kill them and they drop as much as they'd drop from a normal death

Quick Q: Only economic nodes can have auction houses (limited to that nodes zone of influence), right? so in all the other nodes, trade happens just via general chat and player interaction, or are there other marketplace thingeys?
it was my understanding that the non economic nodes would still have auction houses, but they would be limited to just that node and not include the nodes under their influence. So much smaller in size. I could be wrong.

@strong sequoia the dawn breaker skin can be applied to a flying mount if you get one, but gliding mounts are a thing that the general population will be able to achieve. The dawnbreaker skin can be applied to the gilding mounts

Lets make a few statements first, which as far as i know are true.
World bosses drop the "highest tier" resources in the game, which then can be used to craft the end game gear.
Gatherers can not gather resources equal to those end game "god tier" resources.
Gatherers can never be as useful as crafters in that case, unless they could harvest those resources in the world also, but that would make world bosses obsolete.
Even when "end tier" gear requires other gatherable resources, people might not have to specialize in gatherer, to be able to gather those resources. However, most of this information is just not really known yet to the public, so I am really curious if there is already a system in place for this, to make gatherers also important at the latest stage possible.
So the question, Did the devs think about this, or is there already a solution, I didn't hear of yet.

You need resources for all sorts of things like tools, building, other professions etc.
but eveyrone can become a gatherer, just not specialize in it, so those extra resources you need, besides the god tier resources, might be harvestable for everyone
even if they become specialized in crafting

@tardy elbow You can be sure that max-level Gatherers will be harvesting the items the god-tier weapons and armor will use to repair their gear as it takes damage.
@crystal beacon Intrepid aren't supporting third party applications s or providing apis for apps for information from what they've said so I don't think you will get anything there. As for fan site materials I don't think they have anything yet but that would likely come later in development anyway.

Do we know the rate of the gear's power?
For exemple is a max lvl fully geared really more powerful than recent max lvl with no gear. Is there like an average percentage?
An other way to ask this question could be; what makes the biggest difference in terms of power, the character's level or the character's gear?
Levels will be linear power creep, not exponential. So a few levels diffrence if the lower is more skilled or has better gear for their level they can win all else equal
@cold wasp probably some hard to get legendary stuff will have an extra bump in power though
Fresh max vs endgame max the diffrence has not been made yet, that will have to come with further testing and expansions will expand that gap
I hope the power's difference won't be that big, it needs to be based on skilled

Yes, you can choose in which area to start (either your race's or another) and from there on you can walk anywhere you want to go

Now here's something I've been thinking about given the raw number of classes and possible playstyles. How is the "Meta Play" avoided? For example: in games with multiple classes, when running a dungeon, players refuse to play with certain classes, and prefer other members of the party play only with classes "in the meta."
This creates a disconnect between what the player wants to play vs what the player 'should' play. Given the heavy tendency to lean towards fairness, and quality of life in AOC, I would imagine there would be a system in place to keep a "hard meta" from happening in the first place. Thoughts?

Class utility skills only viable to 8 primary. Diversification of dungeons ai resistances and such, synergy that makes more than just dps viable to be more efficient. I.e true buff debuffs

@hushed girder if you check out the pre-alpha 4k video on the ashes youtube channel you can get an idea for some of the scale in the game. about 50 minutes in there is some flying where you can see both large rock formations as well as mountains in the distance.
What game would give you the best similar feeling as ashes, in terms of movement and maybe combat? Ark was my thought -the dinosaurs and no magic, the swimming clip of ashes looks and feels like ark, any other games that would fit?

There's not really anything that's comparable to Ashes combat yet, especially because we don't know exactly how it'll feel
hard to say since they are mixing action and tab targeting combat. maybe a bit of tera since they have action and some lock on abilities, a bit of bdo possibly but with a longer ttk, so no real direct analog.
plus we only have the very first iteration of combat and its going to evolve quite a bit over the two alphas.

So I saw on the wiki that having a summoner as a secondary class letโs you summon weapons? Is that all or am I reading it wrong
We don't have much information right now, as we don't know how the augments will affect the primary archetype skills. We will find out more in Alpha 2 when we get to test the classes.
@round tangle one example given for that was a fighter with a forward slashing ability that augmented it with summoner, changing it to a "summoned" blade at an extended distance from you. so not a permanent summon in that case. keep in mind that is just one example they gave and there will be various augments available but they did indicate that it likely wont be granting every archetype summons.

You can only buy new indivdual cosmetics, and not change them.
You can purchase individual cosmetics of the same tier.
You may not exchange older cosmetics for newer ones.

It's unknown at this point. There was talk that the beta servers will not be persistent and will be more focused testing for specific game mechanics and stress testing. We will need to get more clarification from the devs to be sure though

Each class has a weapon attack skill, so even if we can't auto attack, we can still attack via the skill.

anyone can use any weapon, how that fits in to your build and how effective you can be will vary based on abilities you put points in and the augments you pick up from your secondary. as example you may be able to play a tank without a shield but you would want to avoid any abilities dependent on a shield (like a shield bash).

You can estimate if you take a look at the kickstarter campaigns though, and combine it with the 30mm figure Steven gave.
There was also the summer backer campaign, and the current pre-order campaign (this is why it is tricky to get a total number).
The last number we got that Steven funded personally was $40m. 4m from the kickstarter, and way more through the packs on the store

@wraith elbow Alpha 1 will be this fall with no NDA, that is the only date currently available. Beyond that everything will be wiped prior to launch. I would like to say thanks for making this game. I'm so hype to try this game on release. All your systems, interactions, and mechanics within the game are perfect for all types of players from PVE, PVP, and RP. My question is how would you guys save the game from failing if you encounter the WildStar problem. The WildStar problem was 2 main things
- They wanted their game to be a PVX (40 MAN EPIC RAIDS AND 40 V 40 GUILD WARS) as well but the player base was dying and only left the majority PVE. Would you guys change the direction of the game to grow in that direction or try to fix the problem?
2)The SUPER main reason why the game died was that they had TOO MANY players coming into their game. They decided to make more realms. FOR EXAMPLE, in the initial release of the game they had one realm called NA1 with capacity of 1000 players and two more with the same capacity NA2 and NA3. The solution now, do you make NA4 to add your new 1000 players? They did that but now their player base was splitting up. Then players stop playing now you have 4 dying severs. What would you guys do to solve this problem? I think increasing the server capacity from 1000 to 2000 is a great solution.
I just don't want your game to be the next wildstar but all your system requires a healthy playerbase to really feel and enjoy your awesome game. I believe you guys can be the WOW KILLER or least 3 best MMO of all time. Have a nice day and stay safe ๐

@crystal beacon 1) They are building to be true PvX with pvp being a core part of the game and by having an open and transparent development process to refine the systems so that it is successful. They also have a business plan that doesn't require a playerbase of millions to be financially successful.
- The servers will house ~50k players with 8-10k concurrent connections. Server mergers are possible if there are low pop servers but that will be handled should it actually occur, which is a bit less likely with the volume of players the server can hold.
This is from some of the statements they have made in the past but is a big topic so its not exhaustive for your question.

Some MMOโs just have the quiver give stats with infinite amount of arrows where others make you replenish arrows through crafting or loot

Just found out about this game from some friends a few days ago and started looking into it. As someone that played Lineage 2 for about 13 years I'm really hoping this game can bring to the table what L2 did for so many years. I'm not sure what chronicles Steven played but I hope he at least kept up with the game to see where ncsoft really screwed the pooch and ruined what made the game great.
Do we know how leveling with higher/lower leveled friends is going to be in this game? Like if I'm starting out at level 10 and my level 30 friend wants to play together with me, will they just not get any experience from killing things with me that are my level? Will there be some kind of level sync so that different leveled people can play together and both benefit?

If a node is capped and is both a vassal and has its own vassals, any experience earned from itself or its Vassals is first applied to its own deficit. Experience beyond that is then sent to its parent node. from the wiki
So you're essentially a citizen contributing to the parent node anyways if your vassal node is capped out

What happens if two groups are fighting a raid boss and one of them wipes? Does this mean they wont get any loot?
That depends on the damage they've done.
If you tag the boss first and do 40% damage, you get the loot. If you didn't tag first and do 55% damage, you also get the loot.
Whether you wipe or not doesn't seem to matter in that case, as long as the boss goes down.

Will melee classes have animation cancels? worst thing in any game is being movement locked in an animation and having to watch yourself die to a mechanic you could dodge.
So when you pick your second class it doesnโt give you new abilities just modifies your existing ones. like a battlemage wont have a new skill that neither the mage or fighter get

@lime skiff I don't think that's how skills work in Ashes. In Ashes, you upgrade your skills by investing skill points into them, I don't think you retain past skill ranks after investing points into them
So question, if I tame an animal in the wild. Does it become a mount, pet, or something else entirely? Also, I was wondering if you can tame an animal and use it as a "battle pet" or "companion" or if that is something that Beastmaster could do. Probably not, but just thoughts.
So is it a possibility to use it as a "companion"?
@fair jasper idk about companion, but once you tame a type of animal, it gets into your own database as known, you can change the summoner's summon, to that look.

@fair jasper every class can use a combat pet, not just summoner. Summoner get their own special ones, but you could tame and breed combat pet that fit the need of individuals, like a tanky pet for a squishy mage etc. Combat pets offer versatility but they take away some of the stats of their owner as a way to balance them. You can still tame stuff on a Master animal husbandry, you just won't be able to get the really good stuff that a Master tamer could

Allowing someone to master multiple things is a giant middle finger to social interaction.
You can be a master of more then 1 artisan job, just has to be within the same branch of it

@errant chasm you mean what two job could you master? Basically the artisan tree is split into 3 branches; gathering, processing and crafting. Each of these branch will have multiple paths, so for exemple gathering would have herbing, lumberjack, mining, fishing etc. You can only be a Master in one of the Branches, but within that branch you could master more then one path
SO you could be a master miner + fisher
but not Miner + blacksmith
You can only master 1 type out of geather,proces, craft
Steven has said you'll be able to master more then one, but we don't know the number yet

I expect at least something that can process lumber into planks, leather into hides, potentially meat/grain into cuts/flour etc

There should be a setting to set it so that you can't initiate against flagged players with aoe. Same goes for healing.

If you're in a Node Siege, you cannot earn corruption.
The PvP systems like Caravans, Castle Sieges, Node Sieges, automatically flag you as a combatant and you can't gain corruption.
Imagine you get word some enemy is coming to destroy your metropolis: what stops the defenders from sending lvl 1s into the mix and giving the attackers more corruption in order to make them ineffective?

Siege weapons have no character lvl requirement as i know. So a low lvl player can also be part of siege by using them.
Don't know if there is a "minimum level required" to attend a siege, but we do know that there are efforts that lower level characters (crafters etc.) can do to participate and help with sieges. Bringing in buffs from the town square, manning siege weapons, etc.

2 more years of feedback from wow/eso/ff14 players, this game is doomed 
well i dont mean at the same time. One would die, the other would loot them, then the one who died would come back and kill the other and do the same. Repeat till the corruption is gone.
Loot isn't guaranteed to drop. So sure, they could kill each other, but loot isn't guaranteed to drop and then they'd have lost 400% extra xp
Gatherables are guaranteed, but if they're killing each other just to help loot their gatherables then they're not too smart

Imo alpha 2 is the most worth while pack to buy. The a2 servers will be up most the time unlike A1 which will only be up some of the time, and a lot of the content is added during A2
Considering the packs only give you access to alpha 2 (or beta), you should have plenty of time to look things over and decide ๐

I have a question: High lvl dungeons that open up are supposedly determined by geographic location of max tier cities. The question is if those high lvl dungeons share loot tables or not? If not, would it then not be in everyone's interest (including the citizens of those cities) to allow the max tier cities to occasionally be moved in order to open up new/different dungeons? Would this not negate (at least in part) the desire to defend those cities on occasion?

@austere crescent As far as I know they don't share loot table, it's a way to encourage the fluctuation of the nodes. So I guess yes, you could end up in a situation where you want your own node to get blown up ๐ค
@austere crescent Actually that's a bit wrong, you wouldn't want YOUR rank 6 one to get destroyed, you might just need SOMEONE ELSE'S to get blown up to make room for the dungeon you need in an other area lol

Almost sounds like a server effort to just all work together to min/max loot locations. that would be counter productive to a pvp environment at least to a point. I admit, that almost appeals to me haha as I am not the biggest pvp person.
If you can get a server to all agree that would be impressive ๐คฃ everyone will have different goals and priorities, so while technically on paper it would be possible to have an optimal rotation...... I honestly don't see it happening lol
so i seen somewhere that if someone "burns" your freehold down that they can take some of your stuff... is this true and if it is, is there anyway to safely store items (like if your blacksmith or something and you wanna store iron or something)
@livid hedge Yes, after a node is destroyed, players will have 2 hours to go around and break freeholds within this node's control. You can obviously try to defend it, and hire NPCs as guards, but if they succeed they take a portion of your materials and processed goods, not finished items.
some they can take, but some gets destroyed. Storage is apparently 'safe-ish' but not a guaranteed as far as materials go (such as crafting). Furniture and what have you will be saved as a template you can re install once you get a house back up later.
@livid hedge And no, if a siege was declared on your node, you cannot remove any item from storage until the siege ends, so there is no safe storage. Unless you had insider info about the siege and pulled everything out before

tagging along this discussion, during the freehold 'raids' after a siege, is the property itself destroyed/damaged/affected, or only the applicable stored items?
best to simply not have much more material than you need
(unless you're really high in corruption, then you can drop gear)

Oh ya..crafting question as well: I heard it stated that you can only have 1 primary crafting specialty. Does that mean you can only specialize in say Fishing itself or you can specialize in gathering? (which would allow max skill in fishing as well as lumberjack and mining etc,.)

@drowsy storm If it's attacked directly then it's destroyed, if it was part of the town itself it's destroyed as well since the town will be gone. If it's a freehold and it isn't attacked but the node is destroyed then it'll stay for 7 days, if a nearby node manages to grow enough to grab it in it's zone of influence within that time then it'll stay and switch under the control of that node, otherwise it'll be destroyed. If your housing gets destroyed you get the floor plan and all furniture mailed to you (plus w-e was stored that didn't get nabbed)
@austere crescent There are 3 "branches" of artisian classes. Gathering, Processing, Crafting. You can master a number of professions within a single one of these branches

Even if you master Fishing and Herbalism for example, you can still learn armour smithing and weapon smithing even though they're in separate trees. However, you won't be able to master weapon and armour smithing because you have already mastered professions in another tree.

So if you were a Master armorsmith, you could still go out and mine some low-tier ores to repair or craft regular gear, but you would need a Master gatherer/processor friend to get the legendary mats for you to craft legendary gear

@crystal beacon still it's it's too less I guess. If I dedicate just 2 hours a day everyday, then it'd take 3 months for me to max (4 months at worst). Hope the dev make it at least a 6 months worth of game time.
