How much of the game can you "solo", or in other words are you very dependant on having a guild to get good gear?
Youl have a hard time trying to do things solo
you're dependant on either having a raiding group or finding ppl to pay to make your gear if you want to play solo
I think they said that you dont have to but it wont be easy to go solo

idk about wow, but in my l2 expirience you would have to be in a guild and participate in much stuff and wait for your turn to get geared by the guild
There is family teleport thought, so its more about finding friends rather than a group

I don't know how the loot distribution works in this game so can't speak on that I'm sure someone knows

but basically do a profession/grind with some randoms/pvp gank and steal stuff/do market manipulation and you could get rich enough to buy your gear in that way
I guess having multiple toons for different needs would be an advantage crafter/gatherer/etc
You get rich though caravans and the auction house, people are going to crush it XD
I assume you need to invest SIGNIFICANT time to level a crafting/gathering thing
so multi toons prob isn't the best way to go about it

@silk fractal if the same person harvests, processes and crafts the gear (or it might be if created in the same freehold) you get higher chances of better gear.
Steven said master crafters might even be known throughout the server but I think this is because of the scarcity of rare recipes and not as much the leveling of the skill itself(which will probably still be a very long process!).

Yep and epic patterns have a limited number of uses as well, so you will need the guild to feed you.

Not that I'm aware. However I think there will be a first person view like WoW and other MMOs. So, if you have the program you should be able to play it in VR using a third party system but idk how good it would look. It works for WoW and GW2

@formal torrent Look up VorpX it turns a lot of games (even non supported ones) into VR compatible. I've used it a lot and it works. It may even work for Alpha/Beta
I played a few and they seemed fine tbh. But I'm not a fan of VR atm anyway so I never delved into them deeply.
Yeah, VR has been given as a no. Would require a whole new set of animations. Jeffrey has addressed it at least twice. Not in the budget.

I heard there's going to be a west and east coast servers, but it wasn't from an official source so I think that's speculation.
@reef osprey Name reservation was included in $100 and up KS/Summer packages. There are around 20k people with name reservation most likely before Intrepid packages.
There are multiple NA servers planned.

also my other quest is how long will alpha 1 is planned to last versus the duration of alpha 2. Like is alpha 2 even worth getting. For instance for AA, the alpha lasted a long time, the beta lasted 2 weeks before launch. Is there any kind of info as how worth the money to get alpha 2 is compared to just getting beta 1/beta 2 for instance.

Alpha 2 will be persistent versus beta and alpha 1 I believe. Meaning it will be open day and night, so even that being said it will be longer in lengths of time online I'm pretty sure.

They all give you access to launch from A2 onwards. Possibly A1 towards the end. But realize they will take servers up and down and wipe as they feel the need. No amount of "but you said this!" will change that.

They will not be those at launch and will not act like those. In addition as the node levels up the mobs inside various dungeons may change.

Yes, becuase they want those who are testing to be serious and not the common, "I am gonna cheese this beta key so I can see what the game is for free." These are true alphas and betas in the western sense. Buggy and half done systems. Not some functioning eastern port lacking localization to be sold as early access. High barrier to entry weeds out those casual.

They don't want to spoil launch. Many things will be placeholder up until the betas. Sadly that is when most of the content testing will be for quests and such and there is no real way to make sure they are not broken without sneak peeks. Writing a whole set of dummy quests, inserting them into the client, and ripping them out to be replaced would be a nightmare.

that are based on a lot of trial and error.

Right now testing is under a full NDA except when specific portions are released by Steven. For example, people that participated in Alpha Zero can freely discuss it, just no visuals. The same is for other portions of testing he has released from NDA. The actual A1 and following will NOT be under NDA once released.

@burnt island It is not an official mechanic, more of how mmos describe the natural conflict that occurs over set spots in the game that give the best time/benefit. Those that are there first fight with those that come later. Thus contested.

@hollow wraith They plan price harmonization for regions that they think need it. However, those taking part in harmonization will be region locked to that harmonized region. Will occur after launch. Not before.

they will be punished through corruption, but the option is there
@random trench lvling through it is currently not in the game, but Steven mentioned, that there will be EXP from it.
The scale and how realistic it is to so is unknown though

A group flags seperately (if you buff, heal... a flagged person then you also flag)
Currently, only the killing blow awards corruption (which might be very well changed in the future, in case there is abuse of this system)
If someone lands a killing blow on someone not flagged for combat they get corruption
So, therefore, you could get someone down to a sliver of heath, then train a mob on them and get away scott free ?
I assume it will change though because getting someone to like 5% hp and letting them die to an mob will happen im sure

I guess it will end up in a way that awards you Corruption even if the pve mob finishes the job

Pure speculation here but I would guess it will eventually turn into something like if they do some % of damage to you then there is a timer and if you die in that timer they would get corruption.

However I remember that someone asked them this question during a stream, do you remember what they said ?

Due to the node system there isn't really an option to merge servers without a large amount of player pain.
Steven said they are still working it out but most likely one server would need to be chosen as the main server and keep the nodes and everyone merges to it. It was in the recent AMA

Something along those lines yes. Server merges are almost always bad, so they will try to avoid them but you never know. It's a question that needs an answer but only becomes important further down the line imo

I haven't really been actively looking around for information about ashes for a year or two now, watched the recent interview and a couple of streams but I can't recall this "issue" being brought up.
I just want to know if they have said anything about working on animations?
Some spells of the caster archetype has a lot of sparks flying around when they cast abilities, thick smoke from the meteors and very bright red lights on top of that and its hard to see and feels like it clutters the screen a bit. If you can see all your friends animations, it will be very messy. Then there's the movement which looks very stiff in the recent videos 👀

So I just watched Asmongolds video on ''Ashes of Creation Gameplay & Development Update'' And as it says in the Development update, you are talking about higher grade herbs and gathering, and I was kind of thinking if it would work in a like a WoW way, where you just need to gather enough herbs to get to the high end herbs, where you kind of feel like its just meh since there is enough herbs to everyone so its not really rare to find anything or its not hard to get it since you don't need any gear. You talked about gear for gathers and crafters, I believe, and I feel like that's a good way to go like in FFXIV where crafting and gathering is its own thing for people like myself that don't like dungeons and raids a lot, but more chilling around with people and crafting or gathering while I do so.
So my question is probably if there will be gear for crafters and gathers and will there be legendary herbs, maybe? or will it kind of go down the retail WoW where there is enough for everyone? or will it be more like FFXIV where you need to upgrade your gear enough to gather it, after you have unlocked that you can gather the special herb in a special way?
Also all animations and art are subject to iteration and improvement

A fighter's charge ability, when augmented with a mage secondary, will teleport to the target instantly instead of running at them
You choose which skills you wish to augment

@deep raptor yes there will be tools/gear for crafters, that are required to get higher quality resources.
The location of resources will change over time, which creates local supplies and demands differences. It could happen, that the Iron Ore you need is mostly found in another, far distant part of the map at the current time, which will require you to travel there, gather enough of it (and possibly ship it back to your node/freehold through the caravan system.

Spawns are supposed to be dynamique, so there just be a "map of node locations" for you to get.
It's inspired by the crafting and gathering system of Star Wars Galaxies, which was, hands down, the best system I have encountered in an MMO ever. Another feature it entailed was resource quality, which means that a piece of iron ore differes from another in terms of quality and flexible crafting recipes, where all the resources have certain attributes and belong to certain categories. Which allowed you to exchange a certain material for another in the same category within your crafting recipe. Depending on which of the materials within the category you used, the stats of the item you produced could change.
@deep raptor the crafting system is inspired by the crafting system of SWG, how much of the systems will be taken over into Ashes, we do not know. But reading up on the system there might give you a decent idea of what the Ashes of Creation profession system could be like

Falconer will most likely not have a permanent animal companion from how we understand how secondary work. Since they don't give you any new skills but only enhance existing skill from your primary, chances are ranger/summoner will be something like; when you use an ability a falcon swoops down for extra stuff, but if you want a permantn animal companion you'll most likely need to go summoner/ranger. That being said the amount of information on summoner and secondary is very limited atm so it's hard to say for sure. We'll know more in alpha 2 @eternal palm

Not sure on class specific cosmetics, but balance will be done around the group not around the individual. As for incentives, there is content that is only possible to conquer in a group.

alright so there's a multitude of weapons in aoc does it change how a skill works or for instance if you pick ranger, you'll need to use a bow to use your skills? so for instance a halberd would be used by melee classes and so on? wouldn't that push the devs to have to make different animations for each weapons on top of different animations for the 64 classes(for the skills that have different vfx)?? is this something steven has spoken about?

@silk fractal Any class can use any weapon, some skills will work with any weapon (as long as it's correct between melee/ranged, everyone has slots for both) some skills at least in testing require a particular kind of weapon, but you could just ignore the skills existence and use something else (not recommended for current ranger to avoid bows)

guilds do exist though with their content, like guild wars, progression path, castle sieges and so on
@forest trellis Guilds will exist, with memberships from 30-50 to 300 people, if a guild spends it's talent points on size increases instead of other stuff, Alliance of up to 4 guilds exist, the guild that contributes the most to a node can become it's patron, see https://www.aocwiki.net/Patron_guilds for details on that - Normal nodes aren't terribly affected by guilds, the patron perks are mainly the node affecting the guild not the other way around - Castles/castle nodes are owned by a guild and quite different than a normal node in that regard.
Nodes are run by a mayor, which is an individual -> guilds can work towards getting a particular person to be mayor, the same that anyone could work towards becoming mayor / getting their friend to become mayor

@eternal glade Price harmonization locks people to playing on the servers that their paying the harmonized price for, for example if Intrepid open a Brazilian server that was cheaper when converted to USD anyone paying to play on the Brazilian server can only play on that server, and I don't think specifically Canadian servers are super likely (Maybe there could be a French server if Intrepid thought there was enough interest), so to play on US servers probably going to need to convert to USD.
@oak depot I would assume it's when it hits, since the game probably wouldn't track skill shots that miss as a flagging event. Accidental AoE flagging is off by default and can be toggled on if your concerned about accidentally hitting people. We know that heals and buffs can flag (option to not have that happen on by default) so presumably other non-damaging things would also flag.
@stable plover no, I'm concerned if it's on hit then if I (as a good player) see someone trying to gank me while I PvE and prep/channel a big dmg nuke to hit me with (using target-of-target to see I'm the target) I won't be able to retaliate until after I take the damage without possibly risking one-shotting the would-be-attacker and becoming corrupt

ok i just finished watching the 'Pre-Alpha 4k Gameplay' I know its from may 31 but they mentioned early on about the icon for quests ,shops etc. As for a colour blind individual i know how confusing having similar shaded and or colour icon's can be disorientating and annoying to have to deal with. Is there any like 'colour blind' setting's so the player could change the icons to any colour they choose or a specific template like 'Protanopia, Deuteranopia or Tritanopia' like COD has? i have also been watching all recent

Since there is no hearthstone, is there any penalty for logging out in the wild, or any bonus for logging out in a city / home? In WoW for example you get "Rested" which is limited bonus XP, so you always have an incentive to heartstone back to your home inn to accumulate that faster

Science nodes will have the ability to fast travel to other science nodes I believe. Families can fast travel to each other. Other than that, I believe it's just mounts, caravan, and walking.

Science nodes that are at metrapolis stage are able to teleport players to other metropolis nodes.
Also if you look at the map its like two continents not connected by land so naval trading/transport etc will be a big deal specially if the resources os certain type will be regionalised by different node types

The penalty isn't extreme initially, it stacks on the more you kill non combatants

Corruptiong exists as an anti griefing mechanic, to prevent people from getting the benefits of doing a PK too frequently, there is no benefits to being corrupted, you got the benefits in exchange for corruption
there doesnt need to be a good part of being corrupted

Corruption is not a "sidequest" or a rewarding action of any kind, it is just a measure of precaution so players don't do dumb shit

In exchange for those benefits, you gained corruption.

These dropped items may be looted by other players.[
Corrupt players respawn at random locations in the vicinity of their death, not at regular spawn points.[
Dampening (due to corruption) only affects PvP combat.[
