I have question regarding the housing outside of the city area's . It was said when the towns/cities get into the pvp if 1 falls you can lose your housing in that area , how does the system work outside ? Can people just come along and smash your things etc.. ?

Are the locations for nodes predetermined?
I got into Ashes of Creation at pax east quite a few years ago , just been patiently waiting and showing this to everyone and now I'm getting hit with questions on things I don't do like housing lol greatly appreciate the assistance.
@worldly moss yes, nodes will always be in the same location, however progression of nodes around them will limit what stage they can get to

@worldly moss Gatherable resources (raw materials/harvestables) occur in locations where you would expect them to be organically. So ores are more likely to be near mountains and caves, wood in forest areas etc.
so has no relation to node type
@worldly moss what will effect things is when nodes go up in stages, they may unlock higher tier resources. A dungeon could expand and reveal more mining nodes
it's not known if the type of node has any influence, just the stage so far
Do we know anything about choosing our initial starting area?
Have they answered any questions about ingame music? Being able to play music sheets from a violin for example
@hallow venture yes, each race has a starting area, however you can start at any one regardless of race. your own race's starting area will have some quests for you, but they are by no means nessaccery

What's the difference between Black/Armor/Weaponsmithing? Like i know the difference between armor and weaponsmithing but i've seen just "Blacksmithing" and i wonder what that includes

Question: Because the game is pretty much all open world (including most dungeons), what are the impediments/disincentives to stronger players bullying and/or trolling weaker players?
I understand that the flagging system discourages players from ganking and grieffing, but that only accounts for the PvP side of the problem. In other games, like Lineage II (personal experience) and specially Tibia, a lot of bullying was done by stealing mobs, loot etc., which would not be affected by the flagging system. Additionally, these games attempt to solve the issue by saying "oh, so just group with other players and kill the bullies", but that's not a good solution to the problem, as it makes smaller groups and guilds reliant on the large guilds to play the game. The only solution to this, in the current AoC info, would be for these players to run the instanced content.
So, how can the game create system where the experience of a weaker solo player/small group isn't reliant on large guilds to farm the open world content?
I think that the success rate should increase with your skill against the level of item you are trying to make

other wise they market just gets flooded with everything and it becomes meaningless

[Question] What happens if a guild master has irl issues and doesn't log back on for X time? Or passes GM to an officer? Will the guild stuff stay intact? Will the new GM immediately be granted titles and items and stuff? Or is this answered alreayd somewhere I can look into.

@trim moon The game is being balanced around group play, doesn't mean that solo is impossible/pointless. Low amounts of corruption won't make you drop items, you will become more likely to drop items the more corruption you gain

@subtle holly But that wouldn't work as well for smaller guilds (like my group of friends plans to create). So it can lead to situations where you rely on the large guilds of more hardcore players so you don't get taxed or grieffed while trying to farm.

the corruption is there mainly to deter people from going on killing sprees of non-combatants, and destroying low lvl player for fun

All cosmetic store items will be non-tradeable. So any you get from testing/backing will be untradeable too

Has Steven ever said what type of combat system they’re trying to be, not necessarily emulate, but if there was a game we could look at for a better idea how their final combat might look. There will be active threat mitigation required, think vanilla WoW. We don't have a lot of exwmple of big fights, but there seems to be a lot of dodging involved from the one we've seen so far. There are CC skills but a bit early to say the impact they'll have in raid
Another curly idea from left field. Do you know if they have thought about the idea of a 'work board' where players can post their own quests? and a reward for completing it?
The difficulty inside a raid or dungeon will scale based on how fast you clear content, so if you kill the first boss in 1 minute then the next boss will be much harder/have extra mechanics vs if you kill the first boss in 10 mins
I do believe there is something like a work board for tavern owners as well as node mayors
I thought I heard Steven say the difficulty scaled based on how far you go into the raid, not how quickly you go through a boss

Of your housing storage egts destroyed, you lose a portion of your materials and processed goods. All of your finished crafted items like gears food potions etc, as well as all of your furnite will get mailed to you by the system

I've got a pretty important question on this topic. Is there any storage at all that will let you keep materials safe forever? And if there is no such system, what is going to stop people from storing their items on all of their alts to ensure they are never lost?

@onyx knoll @stray dome Let me rephrase. If there is no system in the game that allows you to ensure your crafting resources are kept safe, then people will find every way around it that they can. If I want to make a ton of gold by selling these items to other players, I will want to make sure I keep them safe. To do that, if storage is shared among alts, then the only option becomes buying multiple accounts, i.e. becoming a pay to win feature. What prevents this from being the case? The easiest solution would be to provide a system in the game that provides a safe place to store your recources, but it's being said that this will not be the case. So how could this possibly be prevented?

@stray dome no, they aren't. they have already said there will be very difficult materials that you will need to delve deep into dungeons for or be the first one to get to it in order to acquire it
@safe canopy i guess technically nothing prevents you from buying 10 accounts and leveling 80 characters to use as "safe" houses. However, you will need those characters to still either gather materials themselves, or you will need to transport the materials to them. Both options are incredibly time consuming ans risky so i'm not sure it's really worth the effort at all
@safe canopy imagine your player inventory can handle 100 resources and your node 10000 you dont want 100 character to save that.
There is no way to 100% ensure your materials will always be safe since you have to be out in the open to gather them in the first place and you can get killed anywhere

Being killed as a non-combatant gatherer shouldn't be common due to the corruption system.
another good way would be to have allies protecting trade routes creates a nice dynamic for both the gathers have more value in their goods getting them to safety and creates player guards also interest raiders. reminds me of D&D but with mmo style
I'm not trying to make an argument here. This isn't something I actually want to do. It is a concern of mine that will drastically effect player economy if there isn't a preventative measure put in place

It has a nice balance to it with rewards for player participation and can develop a interesting style of play keeping things fresh. overall i for see a checks and balance system with the players
The difference between player and node storage would have to be so monumentally huge for this to not create an issue if an extremely rare resource comes along that you will want to absolutely protect
It's a bit hard to tell atm what the dynamics will be like, i understand your concern @safe canopy and i recommend you keep an eye on the alpha and see how things are. If you feel like it can become a real issue then make a forum post about it :)

Guys, no one is talking about wanting to play solo, this is a concern that can be abused in groups too. Finding potential flaws in the system is the whole point of the alpha
Don't disregard potential problems just because we think it's unlikelly or not realistic we should explore those possibilities tl we can patch holes before they make it to live and become a real problem

they said something about protecting players who arent flagged that are supporting or AoE;ing an area with checks to see if you are flagged before the action takes place, so griefers cant just hop into your LoS and force flag
The whole discussion was about ways to keep mats safe that could be abused, not ways that mats are not safe haha, but good point too
Mats kept in a node will be relatively safe anyway because you can't siege left and right all the time

right, if i invest resources to level up a node, its a risk that node gets destroyed and I lose those mats, If i keep the resources "safe" (not in the node) the node doesnt progress. Maybe then just from questing or xp gains in the vicinity, rather.

As far as we know you get all your abilities from your primary, but we don't know if there will be rogue augments that can give detection. Maybe?

at least this game takes prime playing time into account for sieges, most games wouldnt and youd miss even more that way

it would be kind of cool if we, as a server, could vote if we want prime time to be an hour earlier, later or same time, and allow that vote to happen like every month.
@azure nexus you will be able to take advantage of node wars(different than sieges) as those will be able to be at any time but won't have the same effect as a siege does
voting for it would be awful, if the populations votes to change the time you could get screwed after a few months. it would be better to have servers in the same timezone with diffrent prime times though

to my knowledge, from what they have shown, and spoke of, there is no auto attack, you will need to use a 'main' ability for your weapon/attack

If a big weapno is slower and has more top end damage than a faster one but they attack at the same rate with abilities it seems weird. Unless all weapons regardless of type have the same exact damage range
i would assume weapons are like armor, anyone can use anything, however certain things would make more sense for your class
Well, look at "backstab". if I could backstab with a two hand sword vs a dagger I would expect to do more damage.

My big thing is no auto attack = you click a button to auto attack. It seems there are cooldowns on attacks from the gameplay. So, if I use a dagger vs using a sword will my ability to press the "attack" button be the same for both.

'leveling' will be subject to your adventuring class, which he said based on the math they ran a while ago, was 45 days, 4-6 hours a day, assuming this is through all mob/killing/questing combined

From what I gathered. bards will be healing over time, an healing in sort of aura or radius based on distance, which would also apply to buffs, which will be situational and be changed depending on the flow of the battle. Wanting the bard to be more active in battle rather than passive.

Node Sieges are relatively rare. You will see more wars against lowly tier 1-3 nodes, than you will see full on sieges against tier 5 and 6 nodes.

Stage 6: Metropolis - ~ 50 days
It sounded like the resource investment to even set up a node was quite high, so that investment (of both time and resources) is the initial risk made by the attackers

The game is 180miles^2 which equals 115,200 acres. freeholds take up 1/2 an acre. expect there to be a decent amount scattered across the nodes.

They would not sell skins to a freehold if the majority of the player base did not have the ability to use them.
If you look hard enough, I can almost bet that there will be very little effort to find some sort of housing.
For example. You may miss out on the nodes around you, but you may be able to travel to a different region for housing. If you need it bad enough.
I don’t mind it being a bit hard, I just don’t want to have to play for 16hrs a day and play in a top guild just to get housing

i dont think we can confidentally make preditions yet, but just experience tells me that people come prepared, with account sharing in big, organized groups. they'll have studied the map beforehand and set it all up so they can grab swathes of land and claim everything

Pricing is region based. If you do purchase your game time or package at a different rate than the standard (russian for example) you will be locked to those servers.

instanced houseing will not be limited. But there is a catch to it. The more there are in a node the higher the price goes.

for quests given by other players, there'll be a bulletin board in the tavern that lets you accept tasks from them if i remember correctly

@lucid igloo I recommend you buy the cheaper one to start. You can always upgrade up to a certain date. This is coming from someone who has the royalty pack.

@silent island Can you give a context? Usually something increases based on increase in something else
only kind of scaling that i noticed would just be xp scaling for raid bosses and kill quests depending on the party size
in asmongold's case it means that damage will increase incrementally with level
in general, it means everyone is on the same playing field as far as power goes, sometimes in reference to xp
AoC is built off of the idea of Risk Vs Reward
yeah in the case of the interview questions i think he was referring to the monster lvl scaling with the players lvl
^ they hit the nail on the head. basically this game has dungeons you do based on your level. Where as some games just have a few and they scale to your level.

AoC is much more focused on player agency
Also just so you new comers know. There is no group finder in this game.
it makes it feel a lot worse when the monsters just scale to your gear, making the gear feel kinda pointless
this is a game for the player, of the players, by the players
remember, everything revolves around the node technology so all content in the world is pretty much in flux all the time

ashes101.com has a lot of good source materials for intro to the universe
it will be impossible to write a "playthrough" guide or "step by step guide" since locations and items may change so quickly the guides themselve quickly become irrelevant
It would be interesting to grind up on a dungeon right before its node gets wiped so you can sell the items for heavily inflated prices

I'm worried people will come to this game at launch looking for meta guides from the betas and then not find exactly what they're looking for and become lost since they're coming from games like WoW where there IS a best way to do many many things and in this game it'll be much more dynamic in that regard
