Taking WoW for example, they needed to implement spec-swapping because few people want to play as a tank in all other aspects of the game. The role is forced even in PvP or if you're wanting to do other things. Always a tank. Very limiting.

@steel lily To my understanding through steven example of the fighter mage is that if you pick Fighter as a secondary it will reinforce you Fighter abilities within the damage abilities of the tank Spec. If you pick the Fighter spec you will get a reinforcement on the tank abilities of the fighter spec. Might work for lesser dungeons but im shure that if you want to go for hardcore raiding, guidls will need TANK tanks. Im a Healer and I know I will go either priest or bard first

@stable plover That sounds great. I hope you guys do not put so much effort on creating sets of armor that look alike for every level zone. I mean looking like a rainbow is part of the reality = immersive. I understand if they are sets dropped from dungeons, raids and pvp content, But mob drops, quests and world bosses are extending the game development unnecesarily

I mean if you're out in the wild, are killed, and your stuff you have stored at home drops as loot for others to pick up.

I do hope there's some safer option to store things in, then. Would suck to lose nice sentimental items because the nearby city was sieged. I don't suppose there would be any sanctuary cities with safe storage.

Will there be banks? This seems like a good option to place some high valued items in banks with an insurance that even when under Node destruction there is some guarantee your item is safe

Only other concerns are the suggestion that people would drop blueprints on death, or that stats are lost upon death (no time period given that I can see).

There is no gifting of cosmetics or other account bound items. This includes keys for alpha. There were some Kickstarter tiers that have B1 and B2 keys that can be gifted later.
Will classes that have the same archetypes but in different orders have very similar abilities?
@simple pecan stats aren’t directly dropped by death, but instead by exp debt growing to a point that it would bring you back a level. You get rid of it by gaining exp.
Oh there might be a guild bank that guilds can purchase with guild points, and then it would be placed in the guild freehold

From my understanding you usually augment your primary skills with features from the secondary class so IDK how that would work
@modest ermine nope - their abilities will be 100% different -> some of them might do similar things though, all abilities come from the primary (first) archetype, the second archetype provides augments to modify the abilities

You gain exp debt that has to be worked off before you continue to progress. The higher the amount of debt the higher the stat impact. This is to make the system viable for those at "max level"

Coming from WoW where a lot of the "content" feels like a mandatory repeat grind on un-enjoyable stuff so you can keep your character relevant, I am glad to see a game made for the purpose of being fun, and not just to keep people subbed. If that makes sense.

I will be curious to see though how they maintain balance on such a variety of options. I wonder if all 64 will be played or there will be metas where only 10 or so are considered viable for top end gameplay at any point in time.

The 8 core classes will pretty heavily define your role in a party. Then your subclass will define you amongst others of your same class.
Yeah being able to mix classes gives it a bunch of unique opportunities, in saying that though it could end up being unbalanced towards one or two classes but I doubt it.

I would guess going Rogue + other class like Cleric / Tank or Fighter while leveling will be better then going pure Rogue + Rogue, you might have less damage but better sustain is what I think
but in the end will be fun to learn this out 🙂

I played Cleric back in Everquest, would love to see something similar again. Although I was low key bummed to see Cleric is optimized for medium armor and not heavy

@rare oriole maybe what you are looking for would fit better as a Tank/Cleric
The example they give over and over is a fighter with a dash ability. If he specs into mage as his 2nd archetype he can choose how to change said dash perhaps adding a blink (teleport) to it so instead of dashing he instantly blinks to the target.

Imo Cleric won't be the only healer class. I think Bard will branch out to assist in healing. Or such as the Brewmaster in WoW, mitigations or buffing self heals.

He will have heals but the cleric will out heal. The bard instead will have like damage mitigation and provide attack buffs and such.
Steven has also expressed that no matter the class, especially Bard and Cleric, that they will NOT just be hanging back and being lazy. They will need to attack or use their skills smartly to have a good effect on the battle. One example I've heard was that when a Bard hits an enemy, his teammates get so pumped up about how cool the hit was they do extra damage for x time.

I am also curious if it is known how hard it will be to change your secondary archetype? For example, maybe cleric/bard will be what is needed for 40 man content, while a cleric/summoner may be better for 8, and cleric/rogue may be what I want for PvP. Will I be able to swap them out easily?
@crystal beacon In an 8 person group, if the Bard increases combat effectiveness by 15%, it is effectively doing the highest DPS in the group. It's really not hard to make worthwhile.

@crystal beacon It is that simple, numerically though. If you really want to show it, if there are 5 dps, 1 heal, 1 tank, 1 support, and the bard increases combat effectiveness of each by 20% instead, even if he does literally nothing else, he is providing more than 100% of the dps of a dps class.

There are only a few with a large enough following to make an impact.
Streamers weren't an issue in WoW, and there's no reason they should be an issue here. Some people with some followers will only give life the world.
I agree, I can just pick a server, but a huge part of the players are casual and just pick a server not knowing which servers are like this.
Hey all, thought of a question. If certain PvE content (like a raid for example) is locked behind the progression of a node, what would happen to a group of players during a raid if the node's progress were to be reset as the result of a siege? Would access to a node's PvE elements have to be put on hold until a siege is over?

@plucky pawn I just wanted to have a suggestion i don't know if you or anyone here speaks to or is part of the Development team but i feel like a lot of games don't do cities on Water to well to fill that Fantasy and i wanted to ask if you guys plan to have a City On the Water or like On the Shoreline. I think Final Fantasy does a great job at capturing the spirit of the Ocean it self while making the city feel as if its part of the Ocean.

@muted blade Depends. You lose half as much if you attack back. So you are incentivized to attack back. But if you don't have anything on you to take, then not attacking is probably best.

probably? it's hard to say at this point, we don,t have much info on how the second archetype will affect the classes
if buffs are too much of a factor, having a buffer is mandatory. if they're too insignificant, the loss of dps from a buff class is more of an issue, making them undesirable. the only solution is, give bards some buffs no other class has, like a group runspeed buff, that makes them desirable even if they dont hit like a truck

Let's say the Bard is using a weapon, has a sword out and... does some gladiatorial looking performance attack and it looks so great. It inspires his friends around him to increase their multiplier on critical damage, and now they deal additional damage against targets for the next 10 seconds or 8 seconds. So, you're going to need to be active. You're going to worry about your position, the relation of the position of your party members to you in order to accentuate really what you offer the party.

@eager siren I imagine they will have intervals between each test to ensure systems and certain things that are in place are working correctly.
seeing how an alpha is a way to test newly built features, and building features takes time and is difficult to implement in a running system, i'd guess there will be downtime between alpha 1/2/beta 1/2

imagine running a persistent char pool which started with 30% of the features, then got added to it, with exploits and bugs like dupes etc

I believe alot of us are maximizing players right? with the manual attack, can you see a problem where everyone has to weave in those attacks, even mages, to maximize dmg?
@tardy oracle There's not going to be ESO style animation cancelling, if that's what you're really asking. Without that, you'll lose casting time when you try to melee weave, liking losing overall dps.
weaving is only a thing in systems where you can cancel animations. if thats not a thing here, that wont be a problem
well i guess skills will have cooldowns, so you "have" to normal attack in between to do max dmg

warhammer online had a system where skills looked different at lvl 1 and max lvl, like more powerful, will aoc have anything like that?

i dont think you should expect anything other than the very basic stuff in alpa, like basic combat is enough

@gentle briar We don't have details but it's safe to assume if you're a master processor you'll need a master gatherer to get the highest tier mats for you

You could technically make 3 different characters and have them all master a different type of artisan job if you really want to be self sufficient
since processing will be maxed
as i said, we don't have that kind of detail

some people are jobless and can play 16h a day
you're not gona become Master gatherer, you're gona become Master miner, then you can do a bunch of stuff to also become master lumberjack etc
so if you want to master everything in a job type, you'll need to put a ton of hours in

yeah and they should be rewarded for that sort of investment

i want to use gathering to get me through early/mid games of funding or establish a solid funding that i can buy or trade run high materials
