@tough sierra The intention stated last was that fog of war would update when something changes outside of your range. You will not be able to open your map and check on the status of a node you visited 6 months ago to see if it is level 5 now for example.

Hello all! Had an eye on AoC for a while but just started taking in all the knowledge dumps happening with the stream interviews and recent ama.
My question is related to the corruption and bounty system.
What would stop a top level player from equipping lower level gear, leaving his good gear at home. Then going and killing a bunch of low level players(below the low level gear he equipped). Then having his friends get bounty hunter benefits by killing him to clear his corrpution?

Does the caravan system function solely for players to sell certificates and other goods to npcs? Or can it be used to transport goods from node to node, allowing for player to player tade?

@fluid sonnet you will not be able to drop a level, however you can have an xp debt that is substantial, as well as degraded stats that make you have the power of a lower level if you corruption is high enough
@sage grove certificates was used as a term to desribe goods, such as hide, claws, eyes, etc that would drop from monsters, any resource can be moved in a caravan as far as we know

Regarding Family teleportation and attempts to stop zerging, what is stopping a 300 person guild from using 37 people (each of which has 7 other guild members as family members) to teleport in all of their families? its slightly more difficult to pull off than a single portal, but it has the same effect in the end.

If you guys actually use Hong Kong as hub for the asian players everyone around here will certainly have less than 100ms..

@royal spire nothing is stopping that, however there will be a cooldown for the summon and 1 member of each family would need to be in the spot they want to summon to. There is not much info about the family summoning so we don't know how it functions exactly

In both the AMA today and previously, Steven talked somewhat about how players will be able to teleport to their family members. My question is, will there be any kind of contingency to prevent, say, 25 rogues sneaking somewhere, summoning all of their party members (Steven gave 8 as an estimated size of a family, and suddenly there are 200 players?
I could see this being extremely unbalanced if allowed to remain untouched, as this would definitely play to enable zerging.
Remember that it is early days for iteration and optimization passes have not even begun. That said I was running a 2070 on the highest setting from Japan and had stable 60 fps for everything but the dragon fight that was shown on the video.

I would say let them flesh out the details they are going to give a bit more before theorycrafting possible scenarios. Steven has shown in the past when decisions they make turn out to be "not optimal" they are willing to change. While not a concrete answer. That is the best I got for ya atm.

Sorry, all testing phases of alpha and beta are paid access. There may be other testing experiences related to the APOC client that are free later down the line, but those will be based off of developmental needs.
There are people with Kickstarter B1 and B2 keys in their packages to gift to others later. And various content creators and websites may have keys later in the process for giveaways. Keep an eye out.

Yep, there is no date for A2 given. Intrepid used to give general timelines and dates far out. When they missed some early on people lost their damn minds. So now the only dates given are what they know they can hit.

For example, me and the boys organized in the forum a dwarf kingdom in the mountains , and some players organize a human city and so on so forth( I think it's this , how to pronounce ), and we decided to organized some nodes to be always a metropolis , to provided some kind of services and organization, the points is, will be any problem if someone achieves that , and the players enters in this kind of situation?

Can someone explain open world pvp a little bit for me. From what I understand, if someone attacks me while I’m gathering, and I die, I lose materials for dying? I explained it that way to my friends, and they said it seemed like a very bad way to punish just existing. Did I understand the pvp correctly?

So, I wanted to ask a question regarding AoC. I've followed the games livestreams etc. quite a bit for the past month and I'm very keen in to seeing it excel in the mmo field. Sadly, due to my current life stage I guess you can call it, 13-15 euros per month is a bit of a steep payment, it's not super major, but I'm betting 75% that I won't be able to pay that amount not unless I get a job a few years later.
So my question is will there be some in-game way of continuing your subscription so you'd only have to pay for 1-2 months and can then continue playing by grinding set items or currency and extending your subscription.
In other words will there be a WoW Token in AoC? Or can it be suggested?
If you die as a non combatant you drop more gathered and processed resources than if you were combatant. This is to incentivize fighting back.
@burnt kiln There are no plans to have an EVE PLEX or WoWToken system in game. That way lies RMT madness. They do however have a referral system that could make your sub free.

We dont know about that im pretty sure, however the Mayors of metros and King/Queen t3 mounts will have special abilities during node and castle sieges

Make a thread with your title and throw it in general. Everything gets read by a mod or developer there eventually. They escalate it to appropriate people.
@hallow crest Right now there is no animation cancelling. There are specific technical server reasons for this that Jeffrey has explained before. If you are looking for something like ESO "weaving" it will not be present.

you only get corruption if you kill a non-combatent. basically if you kill someone who is not flagged for pvp without them fighting back, or if they are a large amount of levels below you. The pvp flag system works in a way where it encourages everyone to be "combatants", and discourages corrupted and non-combatants.
If you get killed by another player while you are in a "non-combatant" state, you will lose a larger amount of raw materials on your character, and incur an "xp debt"
If you get killed by another player while you are in a "combatant" state, you will lose less raw materials than a non-combatant and your "xp debt" will be smaller
If you get killed by another player while you are in a "corrupted" state, you will lose the largest amount of raw resources on your character, incur the largest xp debt, and have a small chance of dropping an item that you had equip
Gaining xp or completing religious quests will allow you to cleanse corruption from you player.
so basically if I start casting something and mid-cast want to dodge an incoming ability, I can't do that?

As it stands right now, no. But combat is in early iterations and will change over the course of alpha and beta to achieve what they want. So while it may seem clunky atm, it should get better. I have been through almost every testing phase here and every time it gets better. Baby steps.
So if you’re running a town. And want to go gathering. It’s best to do it with friends. Or else people can troll you and steal your resources

yes, the game heavily encourages group play. but if you are skilled or smart you can avoid ganks by outsmarting them or by using mobility or something
My friends seemed super against the losing resources part. I tried to explain that it’s to incentivize fighting and protecting yourself
<Opinion> Also ganking may happen, but the risk v reward has to been there for the ganker. After the latest test and people realized that death exp penalties were enacted and they had screwed their character progression, most deleted and started again, and were much nicer after that instead of all murderhobo all the time.

@solemn finch just frame it like this, basically every other AAA MMO has a pvp flagging system that allows players to be safe in large amounts of land, in ashes you can theoretically be killed by almost anyone almost anywhere. If ashes changed their PvP system to the other games it would defeat almost the entire driving factor of the game.

Good day, I was wondering after the AMA Yesterday whether anyone could tell me what the soloable, ashes will be. I hear a lot about the node system and nodes progressing, as well as towns being created based on that as well as an electoral process that guides the town, but I’m not hearing a lot about the solo functionalities of Ashes?
I tried very hard to defend it. I think they’re used to bdo, where you don’t lose anything from getting griefed. I think they’re just so used to not having that pressure

Everything you do in a node grants experience to that node. Whether you are in a group or solo. Will there be solo quests, farming, and content? Yes. But the vast majority will be balanced towards group play. They want mmos to become social again rather than single player games that make you interact with others occasionally to get a shiny. @unborn thicket

If nodes work out the way it seems, you’d really want to diversify and have gathering groups for different life skills. Groups of crafters. Groups who can go fight gvgs etc

It's really just a more tangible loss of time compared to dying in other MMO's. Even dying while grinding in WoW is technically a loss of material via opportunity cost, or far more literally if you die on an arcanite node
you can declare players as enemies of the state, and due to the time investment that it takes to level a character up, and the fact that you can only be a citzen of one node per server, keeping a decent reputation will be important on your server.
@rapid crater The corruption system will be tested extensively during the alphas and betas. They will try to hit that sweet spot that is punishing but not throw away your character punishing. Loopholes will be closed. Corruption is not meant to be a goal. All stick, no carrot.

Yeah. They want you to be able to raid people, but try to temper it and not go grief people all day everyday

Yes, that are several functionalities planned. From Inn job boards to local callouts. But the majority of the time you will be local, and have a local rep. The anonymity of LFR "fuck it, Im gonna ninja loot this shizz!" will not be a thing. If you are an ass, expect to have a lonely time.

There will be an insane number of variables that I don't think the meta will be that strong. Plus, no DPS meters. As long as you aren't weighing the group down/griefing/ninja looting, idk if anyone will really care.

There will be benefits to each racial and class. Min Maxers will have a hard time creating the "meta" since content has variable AI and others. Play what you like, my attitude is if you find a group like that, and that is not your thing, then avoid them. Elitism is toxic.

What is the team's plan to prevent bodyblocking griefing?
@timid mason There are toggles that you can set. You have to direct damage/heal someone to flag on them. No aoe "karma bombing" They know about it and have taken steps to prevent it.

im not sure they have mentioned anything about weight and inventory recently. They have mentioned different ways of increasing inventory by certain quests and node development and that quest essential items wont take up normal inventory space

Hey all, I have been following ashes/backed in kickstarter since the beginning, but really only check in every so often, as I have tried to keep myself completely enchanted/amazed when an actual release hits.
But I was hoping to get an answer from either @idle siren or any one of you amazing community members. I've always loved playing druidic classes in games, and specifically circle of the moon druids in 5e. (Triton fishboy druid, hittin up that giant snapping turtle form for nearly 3 years now).
Has there been a clear decision on whether or not shapeshifting will be a thing in Ashes?

Hello, I have a question regarding the SOLO playstyle. I like to play solo, sometime with friends, but the majority of time, I like to do solo content.
My questions is>
Will I be able to do Solo dungeons, like crafting gear to challenge my self to go deep on dungeons?
Or trying to get end game gear, with out doing raids, by doing dungeons, gathering resources to get those materials for gears etc.?
Basically to just solo content, or at what point I will be able to do solo content, and I will need to enter a guild?.
Also, can I create my own guild and I can work on those achievement by my self, or there is a Clan option?
unknown how far solo can go, it is definitely recommended to form groups and have social interaction but can you try to solo a dungeon? possibly?
@loud lava you can play solo, however the game is planned to be balanced around an 8 man group, so solo play may not be as easy or fun and there could be road blocks

@azure dove You are highly incentivised to group up with people in-game. As for the Cleric, it is currently being designed to be self-sustainable early on with more damage, then as you get higher in the levels you will be able to specialise into more healing or support
I'm a nerd looking at it going 'so how well can we pack this bad boy full of cities' and thinking of packing algorithms and figuring out how that correlates to server activity/player size

@upbeat zephyr we do know a mitigating factor is nodes around a parent node cannot acheive the same level so while you can have a level 4 around a level 5 you can then only have level 3s around the 4 so it will flow out and stop at a point

Yea I was thinking of putting 100 hexes on a table and figuring out the optimal distribution just to see what's theoretical in a perfect world as far as node advancement goes.
Obviously it's more complex as nodes can be separated (islands) and also uneven (not hexes)

as a pvp player myself I believe choosing a path of refining is viable for us
Yeah I just hated in Archeage where you were literally required to have a house and craft and farm and gather to afford your gear to be able to actually fight in pvp
You can just flag and kill people and get your stuff that way sell it and buy gear

From my understanding, Legendary gear is going to be Extremely rare and difficult to get. But do we know if ALL legendaries are going to all be End-game only?
While legendary weapons/armor can be lackluster if its low level, it would be really cool if legendary items/vanity stuff exist as well that either Lucky/adventurous players could obtain outside of end-game content.
@spring fable yesterday there was an example of a kill quest with a group. You divide the kill exp between the members but there is like a small multiplier i you go into groups. the quest completion exp is full for all so no dividing here.

From the sound of it, all content is fairly time consuming, which is both good and bad. It caters more to the hardcore and dedicated.
@tawny skiff i think that is a very personal decision to make how hardcore you go into one thing. also you can make money and resources from going hardcore in one thing buy stuff and do some pvp see if you like it and stuff like that so not sure if you feel ever left out. Of course going like 1% is only for the hardcore investors but that makes sense to me tbh else everybody can master everything and that is kinda stupid in my honest opinion 🙂

Yes I fully agree that it's really cool that you can make a identity by being a master of your craft.
I'm just worried that the amount of content can get bloated to the extent that you feel excluded from content due to time-constraints.

They will be there to squash reports of bad actions. This would be the place to come with questions.

Community driven events would be for example the quests the mayor will put on the job boards to fulfill different needs. They can put gold rewards on the boards for certain resources. But events like a fair with prizes, probably not. GMs will do active events like that.

thats pretty cool npcs that move around the world on their own? I was more asking about like developing closer relations and then being able to quest with you npc friends through their story and then they'll become part of your gang
I can't recall seeing that anywhere. So I am going to go with pretty firm no, we would have heard about some npc companions thing by now. Like I said, who knows after launch.
I think the game wants the social aspect of the game to be significant, so I wouldn't bet on having NPCs filling roles that can be undertaken by other people.

In a recent stream it was discussed that certain quests are gated by the progression of a node which is a mechanic that i think is really fun for community reasons however, something that I cant stand in many MMORPG's is that a lot of the content is Time Gated meaning physical real world time needs to pass before we have access to that content. [So i guess my question is will we have access to what the game has to offer content wise right away or will we only be able to progress slowly as we wait for time gates to open so that we can continue progress?]
There will not be countdown timers per say. Like WoW has the Gates of Bug City opening in one week. The node advancement is variable based off of how much effort people put into "feeding" it exp. So if people are in an area actively pushing for a node to advance, content will open quicker.
If items decay/need repair and you have a really awesome armour piece/weapon that only drops from an end game instance located on a metropolis node. What will happen to my item if that metropolis is sieged and that instance goes away? Will I be able to farm the components from another instance? Or will my item simply fade away? lol
but there will not be a mechanic that says i can only feed so much into a node per day ?

i really hope that there is no cap on the node xp system as like unkown stated it should progress as quickly as we are willing to continue pouring in effort and resources. with a time gated cap system it would mean that noone is capable of getting an edge in with hard work and dedication and many groups can just do the bare minimum and everyone is on the same page all the time
They will not be able to be placed with various terrain restrictions. The metro footprint of a node is one of those restrictions.

So I'm glad to hear that necromancer minions are going to be permanent, but the way Steven talked about it, it sounds like you'll only be able to have one out at a time. But I know that personally, just for the sake of class fantasy, I would rather have 3-4 minions out at a time rather than just the 1, even if they're only a fraction of the power of the original minion each; to really fit the 'personal army' ideal. So basically, can we get that rather than just 1 at a time?

@woeful vector I was trying not to pull more than one at a time. Shit be rough out there. Didn't notice. My fireball (mage) did become AoE at level 3 and had a dot. The halberd was used when I went oom and they reached me.

@rare temple I do not think your character appearance will influence the stats of your character. At least there wasn't given any info on that yet and Steven said they won't be adding new mechanics to the game anytime soon having their hands full with the already announced and existing ones

There hasn't been any infos on how this actually is. Other than buffs, enchants, normal gear stats and potentially jewels I don't think there is any other stat distribution involved. At least not at the current point of knowledge on our side @rare temple

I hope that there will be tons of different systems which can change your character's stats, add procs, elemental damage and all sorts of stuff like that. That's what makes it cool, when everyone has a different character and playstyle. Many games feel very plastic because everything is based pretty much on gear.

@rare temple there is 64 different classes with a ton of different skills you can lvl. In addition to that you'll have the option to decide what kind of skills you want (tap target or action target) which will give diversity to the playstyles enough imo. You won't see the same playstyles at the beginning. Later on the playerbase will most likely try to min max everything to the point where a class will have the "right" playstyle and everyone is gonna use it

I am going to leave this here for someone to bring up when NA wakes up. I have looked for the citation saying that node exp has a daily or weekly cap and cannot find it. The confusion may lie in the vassal system and how a vassal becomes locked and feeds exp to its parent node. If for example a level 3 that is locked by a level 4 reaches its cap, it then begins to feed that exp to the level 4 and so on up the chain.

It would be incredibly lame if there was a cap, considering everything we do contributes that exp to the node. People if thats what they focus on should entirely be able to grow a metropolis as fast as they want if they put in all that effort

that is fine a vassal node can only go so far and has a cap so as not to surpass the parent node. i just dont want to see everyone splitting out into the world on lauch and a month later literally every spread out node is at the exact same stage because everyone is doing the bare minimum to reach the daily cap and no one has the chance to go the extra mile and get things done

if your mayor builds appartments you will have instanced housing
50 apartments will be ready to be purchased at Stage 3
any more than that requires you to build additional apartment buildings (Which becomes available at stage 4)
well your mayor will have apartments because it was stated that you have to live there in order to become citizens of the node so if you want citizens of your node you will have apartments
When purchasing the highest package for Alpha testing it mentions name reservation, how does it work? Will you be able to see now if the name is available (if so how) or is it a matter of you get the function of reserving the name at a later date?

Hey, I just wanted to ask which class would be an all-rounder and in terms of solo potential and skill. Right now I'm looking at fighter or ranger. Is fighter just gonna be kind of a braid dead role just rushing in and smashing everything that moves? For ranger will good aim (head shoots) reward you and will there be a kill gap between a good aimer and a casual player cuz i like to play fps games and getting HS is satisfying af?

Is it known how the purchasing of houses will work ? Will it be like in Archeage where 100 people keep spamming Buy on the building as soon as it becomes available or will it be skewed towards citizens who have lived there the longest or something similar ?
name reservations have not started yet, and as far as im aware they will go down in a queue style from highest packs down for the name reservations

@obsidian timber well combat is a mixture of action and tab targeting so certain skills will be able to aim at a location however, i havent heard anything of giving rewards to hitting a player in certain spots given past experience simply hitting them at all will give the full damage.

If the node where you live gets destroyed, does that mean that all your storage is just gone? That's a scary thought to have your progress just taken away.

@crude hearth when a node gets destroyed most raw materials/processed goods will be lootable to the winning attackers, any completed items furniture etc will not be lost for you

its impossible to determine what professions will be the most profitable at this stage. What it will come down to is what craftable items will be the most desirable over a long period of time to the majority of the player base. Once we determine the demand and difficulty to supply the demand then we can determine profitability of professions

My guess is that blacksmith will be the most profitable since he will be providing tools to other professions
