well then, i grew up playing the old mmo Asheron's Call if anyone is familiar with it. Part of that game that i haven't seen in any other game yet was two things, the dev ran live events and the changing seasons. 1. Dev ran live events - pretty much there were monthly live events (random town gets attacked for example) where devs would control npc/bosses. It added a very interested unexpected surprise to the game. 2. changing seasons, winter had snow on the ground. Summer had rainy days. Fall had brown grass, for examples. Are there plans for functions like these or possibly the game already has them implemented?

There are things like city guards to help out people that get attacked / an anti-griefing system in corruption for people who attack ppl that want to avoid pvp

but u lose more resources which encourage to fight back
I am used to playing red (asherons call again) where you loose the 11 most valuable items in your inventory each time. What are the benefits of being Green, purple or red like you sid?

Green - Good: People will get corrupt if they kill you, Bad: You lose way more stuff
Purple - Good: You lose less stuff on death, Bad: People can freely attack you
Red - Good: Nothing, Bad: You might lose gear on death

Since de-levelling is not a thing, and only EXP loss/gear loss - what is in place to stop players from trading their items and gear to a mule when they're corrupted, then suiciding till they're green again?

The more XP debt you have, the more "debuffed" you become yes

Generally a good place for putting your opinions and having them not be lost. Discord wouldn't be recommended as it's easy to lose statements.

Well, summoner pets likely don't leave a corpse to loot, so if you could give them gear, you'd lose it when they died.

Is there going be something similar to like mythic + in wow? Not necessarily an exact copy, but something end game that scales and can get more challenging to keep players engaged and pushing to challenge their skills as a player.

That's... a very subjective question.

griefing is always fun, punishment is i'd say pretty severe though
As a tamer, if you successfully tame a wild animal, like a bear for example, can you immediately use it as your mount or do you still need to train it before being able to ride it? Also how does taming actually work? Is it a mini game or do you need a specific item, like a fish for taming a bear?
We don't really have that sort of specific information yet.
@pallid swallow loot is one of the more likely answers -> Gear can be over enchanted (consuming multiples of the same piece), and gear requires mats of the same quality (aka from raid bosses for raid gear) to repair the gear
can I get around the punishment by having mobs kill them?
Does that mean when you as the group leader with a relatively high difficulty rating group up with a bunch of newbies having a low difficulty rating, the boss difficulty will end up going after your rating as the group leader or the average of your whole party combined?
Does currency count as resources? E.g do you drop coins on death? Also what else counts as a "resource" just raw materials? or are stage 2 materials (smelted bars etc.) also materials? What about gear we're carrying, does that drop?

the less time in between the bosses the better the loot is gonna be on the next boss.
@craggy harness You have to transport the raw materials to get them into a finished state, but otherwise I expect long term storage to mainly be in the form of completed gear - there is gear salvaging
@junior sky I.E. Theoretically the first boss would always be the same, but the next boss would have 1 of 3 potential behavior patterns depending on how efficiently you kill the first boss, continuing on throughout the rest of the dungeon

@polar zephyr I don't believe trash clear speed is going to effect the algorithm very much to prevent class stacking on AoE abilities.

only one of them is going to get kill credit so probably going to have to fight each other if they are in the same area.
@digital yacht but still, if I wanted to do a no-risk transportation of materials from one city to another, I could fill up my bag with weapons/armor, run them to the next city, salvage them all. It wouldn't be as efficient as transporting the raw mats, but less risk since I wouldn't drop them - is that the case?

if thats the case @slow meadow then it'll be easy to get multiple groups in to kill the same boss to get crazy high loot on the next.

The "instanced content" is predominately story content, most dungeons and raids will be open world.
@polar zephyr I would assume the metrics gathered for your performance are not going to incude the other groups. those aren't your numbers so they wouldn't impact your bonuses.
Again, kill speed is likely only one of the metrics.
it'll be pretty weird to get good gear from dungeons if you have to hope no other group is gonna do that dungeon aswell
How is intrepid gonna stop from a few big guilds contesting/farming dungeons. Not allowing smaller guilds or pugs to clear content.

as someone whos big on dungeons with a team i would hate to fight other players to even do any dungeon
@polar zephyr it creates competition and soft friction in the game for emergent pvp content. You have to fight the world and others for the rewards hence PvX

@gritty crane We don't have confirmation on what they'll do for currency conversion on that, when my.com's pricing first launched it was the equivalent to 1pre-order pack prices after currency conversion as I recall (I think it's drifted apart a bit with currency fluxuation)

@buoyant heart If someone attacks and kills someone in a dungeon that isn't flagged for pvp, at least the person who got the killing blow ends up with corruption, people that buff/heal them could also get corruption depending on how they have their toggles set to help corrupt players or not (default no help to the corrupt)

So WoW has the problem of new expansions bringing higher resolution items in game. so you have low polygon and high poly mounts and armour. will this be the case with AoC added content as the game grows? or will it all be brought up to scale with the new stuff?

Question. From reading through the wiki, it seems that while you can partake in all Artisan classes (Gathering, Processing, and Crafting), you may only master one of the three. But if you were say a Master Crafter, you could potentially master all of the crafting sub disciplines. Is my understanding correct?

I believe it is different to use it in context with AOC since AOC holds rights to use it ingame and monetize at least partially off of it and a whole different matter when it comes to using it in a totally unrelated context

@thorn wing can't be on both EU/US servers, a 'comforatable' number of alts per server, can be in multiple servers - only 1 in node house and 1 apartment per server, 1 freehold per account - there's an account inventory for stuff like transfering cosmetics between characters, your characters will all have access to your storage in say your freehold, some sort of stash to share completed gear with your other characters, but they have to go to the location where your other character left it for things like raw materials

In Stevens interview with Asmongold* he specifically said there was blacksmiths, armorsmiths and weaponsmiths I believe. I figured armor- and weaponsmiths are obviously for armor and weapons while normal blacksmiths are meant to craft tools like pickaxes, hammers, hoofs for horses etc

Hey, heard in the livestream today that there will be cosmetic microtransactions, but the answer given did not give much comfort. If how I understood it is correctly, we'll end up having to buy cosmetics on top of the subscription fee to look how we want? Sure, there is also "legendary" cosmetics rewarded for gameplay, but that doesn't help much if half the cool stuff is from microtransactions...
the in game shop is not mandatory at all.

Microtransactions are a great way of insuring a consistent income to further develop the game and it's expansions. There is gonna be cosmetics in the store but from what Steven said you can assume just as many if not more cosmetic items as quest rewards and such

Do we have any idea how exclusive freeholds will be? Say if I'm an active player and want to build one near a strong node, will I be likely to be able to? Or will they be more rare enough that you have to be quick or lucky to get one?

You can't keep the same freehold i believe and they get freed up dependant on node changes i think, But once its gone you get a saved copy of your house. so fairly exclusive but not impossible (apologies for notknowing all details)

I am wondering how the combat will be for classes (archetypes) that are melee and when they can, pick their secondary archetype to something range.... For instance, a "Warden" is supposed to be a primary tank archetype with a ranger secondary archetype. Does this mean that the augments for the tank skills now can be used at ranged? And since it takes 45days to reach lvl 50, and if we estimate it takes 22.5days to reach the lvl25 where your second archetype is unlocked... how can we test out a playstyle that would be fun to play... if it takes forever just to test it out. If we don't like it we would have to make a new character as the first class choice can never be changed?

Votes = Pay to get votes (or use connections between guild)

After watching the stream today, you were saying that multiboxing where any progression from 1 character is transferred to another is considered Pay 2 Win, but having essentially an alt isn't.
Will people using multiple accounts to farm materials at the same time using programs to cast the same spells at the same target etc be bannable?
And also I have concerns with having multiple accounts due to the ability to gain trust in other guilds / communities that you may potentially be at war with on your main. And being able to gain an advantage due to information gained by reading guild chat. Technically also Pay 2 Win, but less severe.
I was wondering after watching the Q&A today, which was great btw, if some of the specific classes will have unique abilities that the rest may not. I remember Steven saying rogue classes will have the unique ability to find hidden doors, pick locks etc...what about the Scryer class being able to decipher texts or create scrolls for spells. Maybe the Scout class revealing their Fog of War from farther away. Maybe the Charlatan class having unique traps or being able to have an advantage in the parlor games that could be featured. Im sure this will all come out in the future...the potential is crazy
I saw that there is a artisan system in which you can only master a single skill, what does that entail and how much of other skills can you do? Like if i want animal husbandry as my core skill i need some ability as a tamer or else i can't progress without a tamer giving me animals?

so for example, a group of 5 kill a wolf, the wolf drops 1 wolf pelt and some bones, only 1 in that group could loot both drops, or 2 people could split the bones + pelt

Yeah but that's still inefficient you're really only gaining bag space, materials will still be injected into the economy at the same rate, unless you're a god tab targetter.
I was moreso asking if say you kill a wolf, you get bones and a pelt which is split between the group. Some games will have it that each person in the group will get their own pelt and bones.
So in my example, 26 times more efficient than the average player.

I understand that the level 3 flying mounts have PVP actions (such as the legendary eggs dropped from dungeon boss loot). What's stopping the legendary eggs from being held in inventory till they can be used and then everyone in a siege using the mounts? Do they have a time limit till they can be used and a time limit for use?
they are super rare and they have time limits to use
The legendary egg drops. (which are different from the King/Mayor) mount, have a "freshness" timer at all 3 stages. If you don't use em, you lose em.

The mount abilities for kings and mayors are only avaible during sieges. the eggs that are RNG drops from World bosses have a time limit once activated, and most likely wont have abilities. The eggs from world bosses wont start their timer until you hatch them

Is it confirmed necromancers can make undead out of NPC corpses? If so were does it say that. And if that is the case will those undead summons be different from our normal summons? Iโm not sure if this is a question anyone can answer or just @idle siren

i was looking at some of them and it seems like paladin for example doesnt really fit the holy warrior role in fact some of the skills seem more opposite than what a paladin would be

Hello! A recent excited member of the Ashes community, but a long time player of MMOs, mostly WOW, OSRS, and ESO. I have a question in regards to Ashesโ approach to narrative. Personally, I have found great satisfaction in engaging with the lore, world-building, and environmental storytelling that MMOs, as a whole world, are able to have. It seems that Ashes is doing a lot still behind the scenes to create that world from a narrative perspective. Has there been anythingโs released in regards to the narrative design of Ashes? I know that the game will utilize quests to tell stories, and Iโve read some brief history of Verra on the website, but Iโm excited to sink my teeth into more. Thanks!
@glass bridge lore will be kept very close to their chest in the leadup to the game. Steven wants people to go in to the game pretty blind to the lore beyond broad strokes.
@fierce pendant Nothing really in that vein that's been discussed. I honestly don't think alignment systems translate well into MMO-space, personally. (Also don't really think they've held up well in D&D-space either.)

One of my favourite things in RPGs is the world. I recently fell in love with desert environments and seeing that such a zone exists on the AoC map is amazing. So from that i have a question: would I be able to get the full leveling up experience playing in that biome alone?

As a class designer... I am curious about the class design philosophy and the structure in which they're created to support a strong balance system? I am taking a guess and say that it's already 50% better than WoW.
So quick question will Ashes of creation ever implement a cross server play style system? For example using gates to travel to other servers to allow players to see the difference in nodes and progression on each server, to pvp players on different servers, etc. This would be similar to what Ark survival evolved uses, or what Dark souls does to allow players to invade other player worlds. It could be that each player has a home server their character belongs to and their allowed to visit other servers but not allowed to own land, houses etc in that server because it's not their home server.

How do you plan to make the experience fun for casuals as well as hard core players?
Has there been anything said regarding "out of character" cosmetics that don't really fit the game world? Things like candy canes and christmass trees, or pumpkins etc? I generally find such things to have a negative effect oh how the game world feels.
@ancient karma Can't really answer your question because we haven't really seen it in action (not til Alpha 2) but in theory, it's 8 main archetypes, and then you eventually choose a subclass that gives you 4 augmentation options per ability to change those abilities. (You also get augmentations from races, things like thieves guild quests, all kinds of stuff.)

Question. I purchased a Kickstarter pack for Ashes of Creation. I just actually remembered this game existed not long ago, and was curious if I was suppose to receive and redeem some sort of code for my kickstarter?
As a class designer my self, I am typically against sub classes or spec system or multi classing because in most cases, it breaks core gameplay and class design. It really bottle necks the player into a one dimensional linear gameplay, being massively repetitive.
In my experience, and my philosophy, I am big on structure of classes that provide a thematic direction for a class to give that class an immersive feel that would compliment thematic core mechanics.
I will say that, I am so far excited about this sub class system for AoC. It is the direction that I would take if i were designing classes in such a system.
I doubt your secondary class will afford you all the benefits of if it was the main thus a โsubclassโ

@red tusk The answer to that encompasses a lot of things, it's very close to asking "How will the game be fun" in general -> You can assume that there are some pretty hardcore things that casual players won't (or are at least unlikely to) experience like being the mayor of a node / king of a castle / leader of a religion / etc. - but very casual players can still log on to vote in their node election, participate in a node siege on either side by showing up to one , or joining the nodes religious group -> All of those systems can still be interacted with very casually, while still giving a feeling of 'making a difference' in what's going on around the server. (I'm not going to list all of the games features here.)

So, I'm not sure if this has been answered or not yet. But, I was wondering, in game is there a distance at which you can see another players nameplate such as within Guild Wars 2? Like in GW2, you can see another players name from a fair distance away just by looking in that general direction. Will Ashes have something similar to this or will names/nameplates be harder to detect? I ask because I am wondering how viable sneaking around in the game would be or if it would be completely pointless in since you effectively might have a beacon over your head, essentially saying "hey look i'm over here"

@keen halo I don't believe we have a real answer for that yet/it's something that will definitely be iterated on multiple times, but I can't imagine having nameplates at a huge draw distance for a game like this with death penalties and open pvp
@solid crater in the ama my boi Steven confirmed that based on the religion you choose it will give you certain quest lines and titles. And like high tier religion stuff you can get auguments for your class.

I feel like they haven't finalized how they want the buffs/debuffs to work so they always kinda dodge around that question, I assume we'll see when alpha 1 starts and the basic bard is available
so i saw in Stevens live stream earlier that he said it would be possible to reserve character slots on a server with the intention of helping guilds and friends have a higher chance of staying together, but i was wondering as a player that wants to avoid streamer servers or servers with huge guilds made before the games release, if it would be possible to see how many slots are reserved on a server prior to joining one. Or will you just have to leave the server after finding out that lets say asmongod has taken up most of the server with his followers
That would be nice, but somehow I doubt they'll release names of people that have reserved spots :/
we don't know how the server reservations will function currently, most likely a guild registration or something
streamers tend to all pick the same servers to try an mitigate that, also, most of them tend to be american, so EU servers should be fine

im not concerned about knowing who is where just to see lets say 5000/10000 character slots for a server are reserved before you yourself join that particular server

today steven said that 2nd archytpes are more than flavor. How do they intend to make 64 classes worth playing? are they relying on no dmg meters to slow the community finding out the meta? I think GW1 had that many classes and was pretty balanced, but many others have a slew of possible classes with only a dozen or less being "viable"
I just watched the latest ama and was curious about something about the family system. Since you can summon family memebers and multiboxing is allowed, can you have characters across the map on different nodes and summon yourself to far away nodes so you can sell stuff for hella money
there is going to be a long cooldown on the summon so it can't be abused like that
The 2nd archetypes will modify some of your skills, they won't add any new ability so the balancing isn't as intense as it sounds at first. Plus, they're balancing the game around large-scale battle not 1v1s

Carriages are supposed to hold significantly more items, so while you could teleport yourself across the map, you won't make as much money, and you will find your self having to run all the way back because of the cooldown
@onyx knoll it doesent matter if they add new abilities... if it is more than "flavoring" then by definition it adds an advantage in some situations or some more power. even if they are making "rock paper scissors" its still a lot to balance
in the recent AMA, it was mentioned that rogues would get the skill to find hidden rooms... will this be only for rogue primary, or will the other 7 "classes" get the ability even though for those 7 rogue is secondary?
just flavour would mean it literally only changes the cosmetics of your spells, what Stephen was saying is that the choice actually changes the mechanics of your spells somewhat

another question, do we have a timeframe for those who paid the 500 on the website after kickstarter was done, as to when we get into this years alpha? i know they are doing kickstarter first, each tire each month, and then the website last.... so im curious if anyone worked out a ROUGH timeline?

will classes have different looking skills/visual effects compared to their original Archetype skills? For example Thief/Rogue skills compared to Shadow lord? Since Arche age has this type of Archetype/class system creation but skills all look the same
@wicked heath Yeah it's obviously not gona be easy, but I feel like they're not too concerned about perfectly balancing everything. It'll be really hard to pinpoint perfect meta build because your builds will vary a lot based on situations. Since you can switch your 2nd archetype around, then you might bring a fighter/cleric for solo content but a fighter/fighter for dungeon or a fighter/rogue for attacking caravans.
Also, there will be elemental damage/resistances enchants for gear, so sometimes your fire dmg build will be OP and sometimes it'll be shit depending on who you're fighting

@onyx knoll How i see it going, is that people will not create a new character for a meta build unless they are going for world/server firsts. I think the metas will develop around each main archytpe since it is so difficult and involved to level a character. so FOTM will be per secondary archytpe for each of the 8 main ones
@onyx knoll switch your secondary archรฉtype will be harsh. Maybe there will be even day restriction you just can't switch like you want
they are estimating Fall 2020 for full alpha 1 testing, so $500 packages may be in a bit before then, but we don't know for sure

@hardy pewter while you can't change your primary class without rerolling, you will have to fulfil certain requirements to swap your secondary class, it won't be easier for lower lvls, or harder for higher lvls, just the same for everyone

Nothing is known about the specifics of augmentations
We know mage/clerics have some abilities that let them clear away things like poison clouds that might block some paths in dungeons, they showed it in the 4k dev gameplay trailer
@undone prairie not sure, but i can see there being places that only a priest can open through prayers or something like that, so not just limited to certain classes hopefully

it's optional stuff, like if you happen to have a rogue you might get a shortcut through the dungeon but if not then no big deal just go the long way around

I ran the battle royal on an 8 core 16 thread AMD with a beast gpu and got well over 60fps (closer to 90, mind you, that was very unoptimized and very early alpha gameplay)
But yeah, you can steal gear from heavily corrupted players, you can steal ressources from other players by killing them then get a crafter to make gear out of those for you...
So PvP can be a legit source of gear ๐

id say, ryzen processor (like the low end 1600 from first gen ryzen) and i5 or better from the past 5 years or so should work perfect
yeah, there will be optimisations, but also a lot more content in the game now
i think they are targetting i5 and gtx 970 for min requirments

Will high level combatants gain corruption from killing low level combatants? The only quote I can find on the wiki is this:
The wider the level disparity between the players, the more corruption will be gained.
But I think it refers to combatants killing non-combatants or am I wrong?

i think the skills are point based, so you can spend more points into one thing or another. we don't have full details, but think ESO in terms of skills, weapon trees are seperate from class trees

a warrior could 100% use a wand for long range, then switch to sword shield for up close

the pvp system is complicated. if a level 50 kills a level 1, and the level 1 didn't fight back, that level 50 will gain a TON of corruption
Most of weapon won't be suited for some classes. They can wear it but it's not suited. It's like a warrior fighting with a flute
@alpine copper only if they are both flagged. If the low lvl guy was not flagged, then the high lvl guy would receive a larger penalty than normal
im pretty sure this is the right channel for this, but will there be class themed building options? As someone that will more than likely go for a necromancer, a necromancer themed freehold or node would be dope.

@wicked heath scamming is social interaction. They want to create fuss between player. Basically AoC is a social game to create drama between people
and @cerulean atlas they also said, although the preorder skins are one time offer, there will be similar yet different versions of that skin in game, so while the pre-order necro skins look one way, there will be others in game you can earn without paying
