The lockdown also had knockon effects for development. They are working from home so progress is still being made, but it has made their plan of ramping up hiring and onboarding new hires problematic. Since California seems to be spiking yet again, could be awhile before we seen a return to them actually in a studio, though the news from yesterday is that they would like to be in the new, bigger place end of August.

@late rose You will be able to transfer your intrepid account to My.games once that feature is available.
We dont have any information for how they plan to roll out Alpha 2 at the moment but for Alpha 1 they intend to have servers hosted in Germany more details to come on how that will work once we get closer to A1

Syncing up multiple characters will be very difficult as there is no "follow" option. They will desync too often without a script to correct them. If they kill someone without the chance for them to fight back corruption will grow quickly and they will be dealt with. If they can really crack down on any 3rd party software then multi boxers won't be very effective at all. Using 1 keyboard to multiple clients would work to hold a point but any cc mechanics will easily disrupt them.
As far as using accounts to swing votes even a whole guild concentrating on a node will not secure a victory by themselves, so an extra vote or 7 won't matter that much. You're not gonna find a guild where half of their players have more than one account. Not any decent sized ones anyways.

Hi, I have a question regarding policy and discipline of community members who engage in hate speech such as racism, use of slurs in game, homophobia, transphobia, and general abusive behaviour. I have been playing archeage recently and while I do love that game the community is basically allowed to run rampant with toxic behaviour without discipline or moderation.
I would really like to know how the Ashes of Creation team intends to deal with the above issues. Specifically; what kind of tolerance level players can expect "GMs" to have for said behaviour.
Will there be an in game reporting function?
Will people engaging in hate speech be punished with account suspensions or bans for repeat offences?
How seriously will complaints such as these be taken? For Example; Will someone using the N-Word be punished in meaningful ways to actually discourage further such behaviour?
Will these issues be handled on a case by case basis and if so, why? A slur is a slur if it is said a good stance to take is to simply punish anyone who uses them the same way regardless or context.
And lastly
What is the teams overall feelings towards the LGBT+ community? Would you consider yourselves allies of the LGBT+ community and consider yourself willing to protect this and other marginalised groups?

There is a reporting function. You can see their community policies in #rules. Their in-game policies have not yet been announced however. The owners of Intrepid studios are both members of the LGBT+ community.

As far as in-game, we plan to have reporting tools as most games have, and the rules will stand the same.
As Lex stated, although that should not matter, our staff is diverse and includes folks of varying backgrounds and sexual preferences. Just as we would ensure their safety, we value yours.

I just read Steven's letter, and now I've gone and gotten myself fired up. I'm not even in the Alpha. But now I've got a question that I'm burning to ask: What classes/subclasses can we expect to see this fall? Will we see the full roster? Obviously it's an alpha, so I'm not expecting them to be finished, but I'm excited to see the bones and muscles of AoC's class system.

hey, i was wondering if i want to make my primary class as cleric (healer), will it hinder me to progress through the game if im alone at the start of the game? this is an issue i find in many mmorpg where if you pick healer as a class, it makes life really hard when your group offline or simply busy (wow for exaple tackled this issue by putting que system for dungeons at lvl 15 and onward).

It will. There is no IP locking planned. Those that multi-box will have some guidelines given later during development. Probable restrictions on using scripts and 3rd party software to automate actions. But running multiple accounts from the same house will be allowed. @simple ether can give you more specifics since he has a similar issue with family all playing games out of the same house.

If you prefer to keep your small house, you can do that.
It should automatically upgrade, when the node grows.
So, if you get a house very early on in the Village stage, and you keep letting it get upgraded with the advancement of the node it can later become a main street mansion at the Metropolis stage.

As of now you can choose to keep it small if you want for no increase in cost, but if you choose to upgrade it or let it upgrade you will probably end up paying higher taxes/upkeep and there will be a material/gold cost associated with doing the upgrade. You will need to re decorate after the upgrade too.

That's pretty vague to me, I wouldn't find a more simple and satisfying answer.
So as an example; Could start the game with a rather slim and lanky looking character and then make yourself look more muscular over time as you level up?

@rotund oar I think its safe to assume that post character creation you will only get the ability to adjust hair and possibly accessories. That's pretty standard. What might be a good question for a livestream is if they plan to sell a "appearance potion" that lets you go through that process since that is also pretty common and in line with the no P2W. Race and class are off the table since they matter to gameplay but I could see them adding that to the cash shop.

They've said that any real life money items will only be cosmetic, so I would reckon that eventually, maybe after post launch, we might see some appearance changer that is more in depth than what the barber supplies that you buy with RL money. So if you wanted for example the tower or the ship. You would need a $375 package. That one allows you to purchase any future ones. If you got the $250, you would be able to get mounts and such.
But like you said, if they are not to your liking, wait till there is something you do like. A2 sales will not be closing anytime soon. So the packages should remain static for a good number of months while A1 testing is ongoing.

So say you buy the $250 package. You would get all those cosmetics. If you then upgraded in a future month, you would keep the cosmetics from the $250 original purchase and get the two top tier ones from that month (example Tower and Ship in this one) Your game time would increase to the $375 package level, not a combination of both. That is because you only pay the $125 difference when upgrading, not the full price again.

I recently listened to an interview between Jahlon and Steven. They touched upon cosmetics and my.com in regards to EU players. I didn't quite understand what that is all about. Are we not able to purchase the limited monthly cosmetics if we are from the EU? or will they be available later?
As far as I understand we can purchase them just like US citizens, but just with the 25% VAT on top?

Trying to purchase the voyager pre-order package, seem to be running into tons of issues on the store. Tried using chrome, fire fox, internet explorer. Tried using mastercard, interac online, pay pal. Keeps failing. Seems odd that it's asking for zip code, I live in Canada so we use Postal Code and that's not normally used online purchases. I googled how to translate my postal code to a zip code (take 3 numbers in postal code and add zero zero to the end). That got me to a text confirmation, but even that failed multiple times multiple browsers.

Just watched BCG discussion round video. Some thought that you don't get the crocodile, just the caravan sled/ship. Do we get the crocodile + sled/ship? Do we have to have a tier 1 land mount to apply it to and then hook up to caravan or is the croc part of the caravan and you just hop up in there?

Once the node reaches level 3 it will become eligible for people to become citizens. A week after that stage the first election will be held. Those that are citizens will be able to vote (if scientific node) or participate in the 3 other types of mayoral contests. Nodes level based on activity "feeding" them. 103 nodes, plus 15 "mini-nodes" attached to the castle siege system.

This nodes thing has me worried a bit. I assume everyone entering the world enters in the same place, I noticed in videos some kind of gateway. At the start I presume nobody knows where the nodes will be? if everyone is piling into the game via the same location then everyone is going to start doing activities in that area, chopping wood or whatever. So every single player to ever step foot on the server to begin with will end up advancing the closest node in that starting area, by the time anyone finds other nodes the starting node will be well ahead. Is my assessment correct?

There are a number of build points on a freehold that you can choose to erect different buildings on that affect professions and other cosmetics. You won't have space for every option, so will have to pick and choose. The cosmetics go over those specific buildings changing their appearance.

@digital raft In general the descriptions of the mount cosmetics on the store page should probably just be considered 'flavor text'. I'd probably assume the massive descriptions were in comparison to non-riding turtles, not necessarily other mounts.
For descriptions that aren't 'fluff', The devs occasionally talk about plans for the cosmetics with things like when they discuss planned particle effects, but there's not typically a nice centralized location to find those comments.

So I'm guessing nobody has the answer for this because its recent news but I thought I would throw it out anyway. So Steven said in the interview with paradox that nodes no longer are going to de-level. I understand that it would be a hard thing to do but this also brings up alot of issues. I know there was a debt system mentioned but I think people who already are living in a high teir node would have a ton of incentive to make sure the debt is taken care of because there is a limited number of housing. And my concern would be that the initial aspect of the games world always changing would be taken down several notches and the worlds city's would become much more stagnant. Was there any further explanation anywhere for this?

Vertical Enhancing of items has a risk of either losing you that item, or degrading it's quality.
How does this affect Legendary Gear-Type items? The description seems to conflict with the way the risks were mentioned in the previous articles on items.
I would assume degrading to a previous state of enhancement would still be a thing, but it seems as if directly losing the item will not?

Any language/server they do not currently support is because they do not feel as if that country/region has the population to warrant a translation or a server for that region. Quite frequently, South American players will come in here for example and ask if they can get a server for South America, however, Intrepid have already considered this possibility and from their stats have seen that they do not have the population to warrant a server for that region.
The best chance you have for getting a translation for your region or a server for your region is by getting more people from your desired region interested in the game.

Hmmm i'm not that worried about a whole server for my country, i'm Spanish and i play a lot of games in European servers (Also i live in London, so no problems with that) and my friends from Spain can also play them with a pretty good ms/ping.

All testing content will be wiped. People who had backed originally will get a “head start”for 1-2 days. But during that time everything will be deactivated, except for leveling I think

So if I purchase a lot/house in a node, I gathered the interior layout will be blue printed so you may place/decorate again quickly. But will I have to repurchase the house every time a node I'm in is successfully seized/conquered? As a mostly solo player that makes me afraid of branching out from the more safer option of the apartment type player housing.

@outer lance We don't really have an idea of server count yet, it'll depend on what they expect the size of the player base to be at launch.

@dusty jay There's no release date, and Intrepid doesn't intend to have an open beta (There will be more contests to win keys in the future). A1 is coming out in Fall near the end of the year, so there's still a while to go on release.

Hello, I wanted to express concern about top tier gear being tradeable. I am an Archeage veteran and in AA there is a big issue with people paying other players for the best gear to go from noob to top of the gear leaderboard in an afternoon. Even if it is not the company receiving money, this promotes a P2W system and it worries me as a player. I was curious how the devs felt about this. Thanks!

@soft knoll Top gear purchases in AoC wouldn't be a one time purchase for what it matters, would need to keep purchasing high end mats to keep it repaired.

gear is only one part of the equation. in addition to having to maintain the durability which takes high end mats you would need a lot of in game currency to purchase it. If you tried to buy it with cash Intrepid have a lot of back end monitoring to help detect suspicious transactions and a high end piece of loot for low currency would likely flag. And they have said they will be liberal with the ban hammer

@simple ether i would disagree by saying games with non-tradeable top tier gear do not have that issue. for example world of warcraft does not have tradeable gear near the top tier save for maybe 1 or 2 pieces. the only way to pay to win would be to buy a carry through a raid and pray the loot drops.

@soft knoll you need those high end items in the economy though. You can't have a game built like ashes (EVE is another example) where those items need to be there for the economy to function properly. They will detect what they can but the downside of not having them tradeable is outweighed by the damage it would cause to the economy.

if you bought pre-order on EU side, you will get a chance to buy any cosmetics in any packs from the moment you bought the pack since they are not available for single hand purchase in EU atm
