This debate has been had several times already. Since July has 31 days it could be halfway through the 16th. Since time zones are involved that may push some of you to the 17th. So that is where the 17th date is coming from.

The specifics of what the dates are for has not been stated but Alpha 1 can not proceed until Apoc testing is stable since it tests the back end infrastructure for the mmorpg.
Unless the devs are making drastic changes but its best to get confirmation on these matters than speculate.

@granite siren We know that NPCs are supposed to react differently to players based on node contribution and NPCs could be hostile/friendly to different players. Player actions are also tracked for server history / event triggering. There are fail-able story quests that can't then be easily repeated (which would naturally lead to different access to NPC dialogue).

is there gonna be like.. life skills in ashes mmo? ive seen them talk about housing and things but, like can i make a char that literally just hunts and brings fur/meat to a town? or would it only be for crafting things for other players?

@loud pumice There are 'Artisan Classes' that I suppose work similarly to the life skills of some other games (details may vary). Artisan skills are divided into Gathering, Processing, and Crafting - You could make a character that hunts to bring fur/meat to a town which could be used to either contribute to the node system or to sell to other players. Gear in the MMO isn't soul bound (exceptions apply like legendary items and some class specific stuff), but can permanently break over time (or at least need actual material input to repair instead of just gold), so a character that focuses on an economic thing seems reasonable and you should also be able to complete creature bounties while hunting.

I bet they just prototyped it and tried to tweak engine source if it didn't work immediately. If after that it was too much of a PIA to get it to work, root motion probably would've been dropped.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. I doubt they're gonna boot up the game on launch day and go "oh sh*t, root motion was a mistake".

@dusty fable They talked about root motion animation / movement on the May 30th livestream. Intrepid seems to have said that they're using root motion for the client side animation rendering, but using a different method for the server side movement component. Intrepid is doing custom networking code that they don't normally give a lot of details on.
"The movement of the character with the root motion we had to do some really kind of clever acrobatic things in order to make that work because the server does not appreciate the animation moving the character and so we have to kind of run both of those things in tandem and and have the movement happen on the server while the animation is happening on the client and so there is you know a lot of interesting technical problems with that in order to reduce the sense of lag and make sure that this stuff feels really responsive and and rapid"

@boreal hare Hey there, both the MMO and the BR are currently in development. Their primary project is still the MMORPG.
The BR is a testing ground for the MMORPG as due to Unreal Engine 4 they are able to easily move things around like lego bricks.
Currently there are no dates on any of the testing schedules, but we're expecting to get some dates within the next few days as per the CEO.

You have two groups. One group is in the midst of this hypothetical boss while the other group also want to kill the same boss for its loot. Have players from the second group sacrifice themselves and get corrupted in order to kill or weaken the first group so that they die or die from the boss. Second group comes in kills boss and leaves before the other team revives or comes back
That feels like griefing to me - I know most won't agree but that's not fun for me.

Yeah that directors letter was a let down for sure lol not even a persistent testing phase for apoc just a session which I’m sure is on a weekend... not only that but they added they wanted to do castle sieges/ horde mode as well after so I do t expect to see alpha one this year like my hope was.
They hyped dates a little too hard only for us to find out we get to try out apoc one weekend again I’m sure and then maybe do sieges/ horde mode end of the year.

Hey guys...this maybe a dumb question about the game but are there going to be kings,queens, emperors, royal families or nobles in this game for when you first find the node and when you settle in (meaning the first 100 or less players settle in a node area) going to be a thing or title and if so do they get some type of buffs in that area or in general. I personally think that would be cool it that was the case and also, if you and a neighboring node decided to create an alliance could a player from one of them factions stir up the pot to create conflict between the to and then leave the node and watch them destroy one another ?

And while there will be mayors and a council has been mentioned, those traditional titles have not. Kings and queens are titles for the pvp castles. But they are not based on when you arrive, but your actions in game.

@pallid osprey no royalty or nobles in the sense that you are thinking. if you hit up the wiki and dig into the nodes and castles you can get a better idea of how leadership will work. in the nodes there are elected leaders though even that varies by node type. castles will be fought for and have a different leadership. there will be opportunities to change leadership fairly often but a good leader would ideally be kept in power. as for things like alliances, that is all player driven with a few in game mechanisms to help it function (like trade agreements) but sabotaging your ally or turning on them are fully possible as well. there is quite a bit to it, so I would definitely recommend hitting up the wiki or dropping in on some of the content creators who have summaries of the systems as we understand them up on youtube.

Crimson, there are 2 kinds of pets in the game (aside from summons). One type is purely cosmetic (just follows you around). The other type are Battle Pets that take a portion of your strength when you have them out so that you’re not stronger. And ofc they fight with you! None of them gather for you

My memory is that Steven said some cosmetic pets would be able to be summoned from level 1. These pets have not combat abilities and are not skins. They will not gather or do anything "p2w". The combat pet and mount skins require you to have the relevant class of animal tamed or acquired in game first before being able to be applied.

Hey I was wondering if there will be a class that will be kind of a thrower? I mean ranged DPS that wont be using bow or crossbow but maybe some kind of knives, chakrams and things like that? New FFIVX expansion added Dancer that is ranged DPS who uses some circles in the fight. Im looking for something like that, do we have any info about such class?

@tepid dragon Currently the only weapons that exist with projectiles are Shortbows, Crossbows, Longbows, and Potion Launchers.
Potion launchers are basically a fantasy variant of grenade launchers that can shoot fire/ice to do different types of damage.
However we may get more weapons as the game progresses further in development, so best to wait and see.

@umbral sage Still pre-alpha. There are three game modes planned as part of testing in the Ashes of Creation Apocalypse setting (BR, Castle Siege, and Horde Mode which is waves of PvE enemies) The BR is set to return to limited testing on Aug 20th and future dates will be determined from that.
All data from Apoc is being used to refine and iterate on systems that will power the MMO (action combat, siege mechanics, and enemy ai respectively).

During the testing of action combat in the BR, they found they were not getting the performance they wanted. They have since redone the animation system and the backend netcode to allow for larger battles. That has pushed back and invalidate previous dates.

Hi guys, im new here. Recently found out about this game, watched a lot of videos. I must say, this is very exciting!!! I have 2 questions though (both MMO related):
- Will AoC support addons? Like custom UIs etc?
- When we talk about Guild Castles covering 20% of territory each and taxing that territory. What if a Metropolis is on that territory? Does it mean all income in the Metro will get taxed by the guild owning that particular Castle?

- No they dont plan on letting api out for ppl to create addons however they plan to make the UI customizable through there own settings. 2. Potentially they have stated that castles will tax everything within their influence, so Potentially they will dip into gaining tax from the metro. However that doesnt mean that the tax only goes to the castle the nodes tax will also be there. We have yet to fully get a detailed explanation of the system shown to us (soon to come).

@grave night The email on the left side is the email you REGISTERED with - it always stays the same as we may ask you for that if you ever need to recover your account 😃 you are able to update your CONTACT email from that middle "User Info" field! As long as you have an updated email in that field, that's where all account messages will go 😄

He has mentioned it a couple times. The story the way I remember it was there was a bear that you could only get from the lootbox. He dropped a stupid amount of whale money to get it, and they put it on the regular store a week later. Or something to that effect. Same story, a couple different times.

I don't think its intended for them to create them. but based on how the mayor wants to grow the node I think the intention is for them to be able to use the tax income to incentivize certain quests over others. so a bounty hunter npc may have their quests with bonus money where the crafting npc does not or vice versa. the mayor doesn't control the quests directly. Though they can build certain structures that would open up different types as well (temple, barracks, crafting area, things of that nature).
@crystal beacon the 20th is a stand alone test right now, but based on the results of that test other determinations will be made

@crystal fjord, there will be no corpse runs. When you die, you respawn. Steven answered that question a couple livestreams ago, I believe. As for a delay, we don’t know! But if there is, it likely won’t be a big one. He might’ve said more, so I’ll go check!

It’s testing the most important part of an MMO, the ability to actually support a massive playerbase. Their first round revealed that it could not reasonably do so, so they did a full revamp of the backend to beef it up.

@crystal fjord There are a few different mechanics going on with respawn points. There was no delay on respawn in the open world. There are several fixed respawn points in a zone. To prevent corpse camping there will be options for which you can select. Those that die corrupted will be respawned at a random point in the node not of their choosing. Due to the exp loss on any death whether it be from pvp or pve they believe that people will not be "suicide travelling" since the distance travelled to nearest respawn point would not be worth the negative benefits. These respawn rules are different for city and castle sieges. And as always, there is the caveat that if something they envisioned does not work like they planned once tested in the alphas and betas, may change.

so i watched the stream and i have a genuine question. how on earth a1 is being delayed so much (10 months and counting) and even in a DEMO of apoc there are a ton of bugs? it seems just like intrepid wasnt even prepared for the castle siege "gameplay" and just rushed it
also i m not referring to the environment thats blank as a bug obv... i know a thing or two about ue4
