We were told beta/alpha would have access before general public to apocalypse- I have beta preorder pack and that never happened before and it doesn't look like its happening now. I see a lot of talk floating around about early access to apocalypse and the mmorpg. But i am assuming now it is only the mmorpg? Would love some clarification on what pre purchasing got us in apocalypse.

@simple ether I have to applaud intrepid for their funding strategy. The promise to A1 of 30 day early access would entice people to purchase those packs. Same with early beta access. I think the ambiguity extends from apocalypse vs the mmorpg. I have a corporate finance and MBA background and own over 15 distinct companies. The funding strategy is genius to effectively generate more funds via a limited release of apocalypse with the ember system activated under the implied understanding that it would appear as though the apocalypse would be a continually available sub-game used for testing server stability and combat for the mmo. The issue here is I don't really know what i'm getting exactly as benefits as a consumer anymore- its blurry- needs to have clear deliverables as it translates between apocalypse and the mmorpg. If nothing else, I am hoping that the additional raised capital will facilitate further corporate resources that will be used efficiently to finally take down the giant games like WoW that are short-term investment sighted and are stagnating the industry. We'll see! Here's to optimism!

I guess what’s confusing me is that players I talk to on discord are saying they are beta backers and got access weeks ago . But they must have gotten a beta 0 invite key instead of 1 or 2 . @simple ether I agree they should just take it down and fix it . I just would have liked some further clarification on the apocalypse piece . Anyways this is discussion now - my first post was a question. For clarity - it’s been answered .

@dusk mesa Embers will be assigned to your account once the migration has been fixed. Name reservation wont be even touched upon till around the middle of 2019 from the last information given.

@lament laurel B1 for the mmo has been estimated for Q4 2019 and will be relatively short. Apocalypse which is a testing phase program is meant to be available for free to anyone will return early next year. The current phase of the MMO testing action combat and server architecture and load while they work on integrating core systems for the mmo A1 phase meant to start early/Q2 2019.

Yes it was only for the BR, but I enjoyed the BR because it contain things that won't be in the MMO like unlimited ranged, it's unique and different experience than the MMO.

@uncut salmon earliest test available now is for Alpha 2 once a preorder pack is bought. All other open testing (such as the opem beta BR) will still be a thing in the future for other possible modes/features.

So I read the FAQ

Players can customize their combat experience to focus on tab targeted skills, action targeted skills, or a mix of both.

Does that mean I'd essentially miss out on skills if I'd only go for action targeted skills?

Like I said I came from BDO and while the rng ruined it for me the combat system was amazing.

Are the action target skills comparable to bdo or something completely different?

Horde is more about spawn generation and AI going wonky. Monster coin events will be very similar to Horde mode, but with the added bonus of player controlled monsters depending on coin level.

@crystal beacon The reason they are going with the node stuff and more sandboxxy is because they understand there will always be a percentage of content whores who burn through it all in under a week and then bitch "there is nothing to do!" This way there will be light content gaps for those that try to burn.

Yea I know that, but the problem is not really that this is a sanbox or not I see the actual problem that the game dont have any real pve content. And dont understand me wrong, Im a main pvp player but I learn my lesson already more then twice that the MMORPG Genre have lot more pve players then pvp

But making an pvp game doesnt mean that this is bad, its just that they are running it as a P2P

and I think this will end up same like Tera was

Where did you get that there is no pve content. We have an overarching main storyline that will take you all over Verra confirmed. A whole mess of side storylines confirmed. And their take on dailies, call tasks. Open world and Instanced dungeons that spawn based on node type and location, all sorts of stuff that is outside of the pvp box.

That is why the official faq they call themselves a themebox. It is a wait and see. I think they are going about it the right way by getting pvp related issues out of the way first. The patcher being excited is a known issue where there are multiple processes open from either intrepid or the launcher itself. Try closing all AoC related processes in the task manager (or restart your pc) to fix that.
The other issue I have not yet seen and can best be posted in #alpha_bugcrash_reports

Just wondering because the first testing week i played with the Intrepid-Launcher and therefore with my Intrepid Account. Because my.com-Launcher wasn't available then. I have a question. How concerned is everyone with the mesh of “tab” and “action” combat. I for one enjoy the skill involved in an action combat MMO but if given the option to use tab or action tab targeting is obviously optimal. Am I misunderstanding how this will work in ashes? Will you be given the option or will only certain abilities be tab targeting?

Tbh it’s good, action combat normally brings a lot more skill set and skill cap with it. also it separates people outside of just cd and skill rotations, but imho the biggest issue with action combat games tends to be the lack of support classes due to the inability to tab friendlys, which tends to lead to either rng heals that don’t hit who you want or support classes that do hit everything and everyone and being bustedly op cough final fantasy cough the tab will allow a bit more precision in true support (not just heals) while also retaining the skill cap off action attacking

Testing resumes on Jan 11th, Apocalypse's release is in February, not the MMO - Apocalypse consists of Battle Royale, Castle Siege, and Horde modes - I don't think the February release is meant to include at least horde mode (which we're expecting the testing for to start at the end of March)
2. Apocalypse is F2P, you can play it without putting in any money at all and earn cosmetics/embers that could carry over to the MMO. There are various purchases you could make for individual cosmetics / the Apocalypse legendary path for 10$ US for about 10 weeks it unlocks a lot more earnable cosmetics. The MMO itself has no box cost / no DLC costs, has a 15$ a month subscription, and has a cosmetic only cash shop (a boat in a pre-order package is for example a boat skin, you still need to collect the materials like lumber to build the boat at a shipyard, there are different classifications of boats and you need to match the skin to an appropriate ship) - There are various pre-order pack bundles available that offer Alpha 2 - Beta 2 access for the MMO (Alpha 2 starts in Q3 of next year)

I think I understand what he is asking, maybe. Some games upon release allow you to download a core portion to get you in the game, and then you can be playing in a limited fashion while the rest of the game downloads in the background. And we have no information on whether that would occur here.

Also the games that do it have dedicated server farms. Most new companies use cloud services for their infrastructure now. It all depends on how their setup with AWS (current hosts) works. Whether they need to apply a full update with their client offline for everyone to download. Lots of technical details we just don't have access to. It will become clearer later.

Braver of Worlds have been able to test for a while now
The Ashes Apocalypse testing platform is free to play for everyone but Alpha 1 package holders get to test the different apocalypse modes before they are released for public testing.
the game is currently down until the 11th and will resumed for weekend testing sessions

You should be able to I think, but right now everything is pretty thoroughly broken. For example, the only thing in my store is Kickstarter/Summer upgrade packages... some of which I've already bought.

Apparently they will be extending December cosmetics so that the people who are having issues right now will still be able to buy them. As for fixes though, we won't know anything til Friday.

@compact steeple Eh, right now, they're testing combat mechanics hence BR and upcoming Castle Siege. We had PvE in Alpha 0. We'll be getting PvE testing few months down the road for Horde mode. It's just that they want to ensure combat is working.

And right now, they've ran into migration issues, and are working on getting them sorted out as soon as possible. We can expect an update tomorrow, or a day after depending on their side. I'd suggest sending in customer support ticket just in case.

AoC will not be a PVP game. It will be an MMO. They have released a different experience for now named "Apocalpyse" to test a multitude of things (pinned by Alluring in this channel) which will only aid the development on the MMO that is scheduled to come out before 2020

And as Deadmansprice noted, it will not just be a BR experience, that's just the first part. They will also include a PvE mode for all the non backers in Apocalypse with the Horde mode.

I recently (on the 14th of December) purchased the Arctic Prowler as well as the Frostguard Cloak off of the cosmetic shop on the site. I did this before the website migration took place and I've been looking through my purchase history on my profile, but the items are not showing up. I dunno if it's worth noting, but I did use PayPal for the first time to buy those items (all my other transactions have been through my debit card). The game that is down is Apocalypse which is free to play so owning the pack won't affect you playing the game once it's available
The mmo testing phases are expected to begin in Q2 with the alpha 1 test

As for when you should buy the pack I'd wait till intrepid updates us on the status of the website just to be safe

AOC will be a PvX MMO where both PvE and PvP will play major roles in the world. PvE will build up, PvP will tear down , and thus the world is constantly changing. Having one without the other would cause the game to become stagnate which is not the intended goal. PvE activities will sometimes overlap with PvP activities (such as the caravan system) and PvP activities will sometimes overlap with PvE (such as building up the nodes surrounding a castle).

I know @simple ether had been mentioning friday to a lot of people in the question forum, I suspected it would be if not a full update on Friday at least a break of silence. I'm sure they're working hard on a solution. Didn't think a one line update would be out of the question though even if the solution isn't available yet.

@shut mantle Perhaps, but if they wait until monday they will effectively break the promise of a update by end of week. That would be a bad PR move . Early in the development of a game, deliverables /promises mean a lot. They need to maintain the faith of the consumer base. Do you think maybe she'd just make the announcement sunday instead? I wouldnt be surprised , or I would think Steven would sunday if she wasnt ready until monday to at least break silence before end of week .

It still just says 'user not found' when trying to login to my old account. @copper phoenix Not everyone has their kickstarter stuff added and I assume they're still working on it. You can put in a ticket if you want though (although I've been waiting for weeks now) and keep up with the news. Hopefully it'll get fixed soon.

Hello, I see that the combat style at videos of the Alpha on pve is different to apocalypse combat style. Wich will be the final combat style for the game when it finally release ? I ask because I like most apocalypse's combat style for both pve and pvp

Trix, the combat in the MMO will be more like the combat seen in the MMO footage. however, heavy action combat elements will be incorporated into the combat from Apocalypse

and the action ability range will be in line with normal MMO ability ranges

It's mostly for cosmetics and being able to help support fund a game before it's initial release.
It's optional, too.

I chose the biggest option because there are tons of people who are working incredibly hard behind the game.

And while I only paid a small fee, just knowing it's going towards development and supporting the team, makes me feel really good about my decision.

Its a game I want to see take off and if that means giving the devs money while I wait to play, so be it. It's part of the process.

I've been playing MMORPGs for 15+ years and this is a new twist on a dying genre. This game is probably one of the last MMORPGs I'll ever play. Spending 500$ to see it take off while the 'getting is good' is not a big deal.

Thats alright, initially its supposed to be Alpha 1 testers only but that may change depending on developer decisions

Alright then no you wont be able to access the Siege modes until after closed testing has taken place once the devs feel its stable enough itll be available for public testing
this cycle will repeat for horde mode as well

Can we get some more consistency in the marketing medium channel used for communication ? @tight gale waiting all week post Stevens last news update and then when it came ( on Sunday not end of week ) I had to dig for it . Why would we have a bunch of news update s in news then random updates we wait on all week in the discussion tab not even pinned - should we expect more consistency ? See example

But when the main dev updates are all in news and then a random post in discussion gets pinned in response it just makes it harder to follow and doesn’t really make sense from a marketing consistency stance for communication to the player base . If I scroll through news I should see all the latest news updates as they roll out . That post was definitely news it was the update that’s not even debatable .

@tulip hatch that’s the challenge with one off responses . I enjoy Stevens communication . But official communications should be posted consistently when they are directly related to news in the community to the player base .

Depends a bit on what sort of suggestion you have. For game design suggestions I would usually have recommended the game design section of the forums, which are currently down. For a large well constructed post the AoC reddit wouldn't be bad in the meantime. Ashes Discussion is a good placed for it to go if you have some sort of suggestion that you want people to talk about (assuming the suggestion is Ashes related, Community discussion would probably be reasonable if it's not Ashes related). If your suggestion is something like 'You guys should fix bug x by doing y' it probably goes in bugcrash reports with hopefully a bit more detail.

@strong nexus During December there were a lot of issues with the game and many people weren't able to play it. There isn't really a Blizzard level support team (i think it is 1 guy or something like that) and there was a backlog of 9k tickets last time i submitted. It takes time to go through all of them.

@true delta They've answered your question already, initially the testing was for a small amount of users.
Having Apocalypse as a standalone provides the devs with numerous benefits ranging from allowing better testing, more data etc. to working as a marketing strategy. Battle Royale players that normally wouldnt touch an MMORPG might find interest in trying out AoC because of Apocalypse and the way they are connected.

I'm not comparing to FN at all, I don't mind the standalone product. I was only curious about the manpower required to support it since if you want people to actually like it you need to either set stats to what you're balancing in the MMO as a baseline for the BR so everyone is equal and you can kill two birds with one stone, or completely rebalance it separately

For example, let's take the shortbow in the BR. All the skins/variants are present in the MMORPG, it'll have its own unique stats etc that will require balancing/tweaking over time.

However in the actual BR itself, the shortbow simply functions as a weapon skin which deals a flat amount of damage (depending on whether you land a headshot or not)

So with UE4, they have the ability to develop assets that are used for both Apoc and AoC, with their own unique stats/numbers. Meaning they're two completely different games.
