@serene sparrow The KS pets are pure cosmetic items.
They are skins, to apply onto a mount. Steven said they are real pets because their have their own unique FX and animations.
however, the item itself is an appliable skin. it is not a stand alone item.
a good example is the sea mount. It will only be appliable to a certain type of mount, that can be gained trough ingame means, and only then turned into this fabulous sea turtle.

@nimble wave Thank you for the answer, but does this apply for the Phoenix and Pseudo Dragon. I guess i'm confused how it will work if you put a dragon skin on a dog but that dog has an ability to dig up stuff. (or something similar) Just seems like it will be odd in some areas.

You need a specific mount that does certain abillities, and then you can apply the skin onto it.
in other words, these skins are applicable to specific pets.

but you can ask people to "deposit" and then use the money for the positions.

@mellow yoke After the stream is down the video is automaticly saved as "VOD". these vods will stay up for as long as the twitch user will allow it. @crystal beacon While not a direct answer, Id like to point out that the complexity of combat does not rely on sequence of skills. The older games relied heavily on APM and control management where as todays most popular games rely on precision, time of use and proper targeting. The best example of this would be MOBAs, which offer you only 3 skills and an ultimate. They require no APM or a rotation (the piano play you were refering to). This doesnt lower or make the gameplay dull. If anything it does the opposite effect of forcing you to make decisions that could cost you the game. It also encourages team play and smart predictions. What I suggest you do is wait for Fridays stream which will discuss classes and combos, might shed a lot of light on your case as this question is heavily reliant on revealing the combat system which steven said is 1% complete and wont be revealed until it is ready to be shown. Hope that helped

@nimble wave Thanks for the input Needle, i will be there for the stream as always. Yet my worry stands, while i agree that iframing, positioning and whatnot can add alot to combat in general, having 4 abilities with little depth will become stale very fast, we're still playing an RPG not a moba.
To give an example that Steven would understand very well. Lineage 2 was an amazing game for many reasons, but a flat combat system like that game, wouldnt be exactly fun in 2017.

@crystal beacon there is also more than just flat out pvp, with caravan fighting/defending and sieges there is some interesting pvp there. Also based on the pre alpha footage I think they're not going for 4 or 30 skills but like around 10 slots

Pacing of the game is the "grind", so I'll let you know AoC will have no grind elemnt to it and the avrg 1 to max level (most likley 50) will be around 45 on avrg. these things are hard to predict so consider this aswell.

@nimble wave Thanks for finding this info for me, no need to answer me further I am just explaining my question a bit more. It seem odd to me use a leveling system in a game like this. EVE Online, Ultima Online and Rune Scape use different progression system then the tradional class/character leveling for stat and skill points increases. Even Guild Wars 1 had a intresting system where they stopped providing levels after 20 and the goal became attribute points and unlocking skills which reminds me a little bit like the agument system being proposed. I guess what I want to know is what do I get from leveling in a combat direction; either stats to be stronger than other player, or just more augmentations to specialize my charactrer? Also does a level 1 player have a disadvantage in character stats from a level 50 character or is it just gear and abilities difference? Kind of just looking for the vision not for a definite answer since alot of this will be adjusted in balanced. I personally prefer a lower level with more focus on max level character customization experiances then a higher max level with less customization. I think 50 levels is to high since that would require 50 levels of unlocks/gear that everyone rushes through to get to the end game content. I am very intresting to see how this challenge is approached.

I understand that a Gathering backpack will be different from an Adventurer's backpack in what it will carry. Will there be multiple slots for different backpacks?

Thanks @regal topaz I couldn't find anything else on it either. Also thanks for the caravan answer... You are correct, it is implied, but not stated. When a player is killed, they lose a "portion" of the items they are carrying from gathering or consumables it states... I find no reference to a "portion" when an item is placed in a caravan and the caravan is defeated and looted.

But that aside.
You do not need to pay the full amount. You'll be able to upgrade the package if you're indeed a KS package holder.
2 things:
A) this week there will be codes send via email that will allow you to link betwen the KS package and ur website user.
B) the upgrading option should go up right after that is integrated.

So to sum it up
wait until the end of the week, the system will be in place and you will undersatnd how upgrading your pacakge is done.

@empty fjord For your artisan class the more you craft the more you will boost it, you will gain XP by going out in the world and doing your basic "node leveling" activities as well. I will try to find some proof one second.

@empty fjord Just to clarify, the question I was answering there was refering to weather crafting is tied to character level.
"is artisian class reliant on character level" and the simple answer was no.
But if Im not mistaken the question here is, "will I get character exp for preforming artisian classes" and the answer is yes.

There are the current classes Ashes has, this includes being able to combine all of them together, letting you have multiple class options, for example bard/ranger, fighter/cleric, each class can mix together.

At the bottom it say that upgrades are not yet possible, and that they will send another email next week when we can upgrade our existing Kickstarter Pledge. @zenith heron Hey Shabby, it is important to note that the game is still under development, and in pre alpha, so the answer to this question is none-existant yet as many things are bound to change.
That being said, here is how I would aproach it if I were you given all the information available to us:
AoC crafting system follows a separate Artisan skill tree. It's like the trinity approach to classes only applied to crafting. Gathering, Processing, and Item Creation. You could become a jack of all trades, but you can’t master all. You have to focus down a tree to master it. meaning that the "Spell-Books" would fall under "Item Creation" and you'll have to unlock this path, down this tree. again, the more skillful you are, the better quallity and higher tier the item will be.

So to answer your question, Item Creators will be able to craft these books, but only the ones that focus souly on crafting spell books will provide the highest tier spell books available to the public.
Also, note that initially the process starts with the gatherer that will have to gather the specific materials, the processor who has to process them and the item creator who has to craft the spellbook, so essentialy, it takes all 3 classes to "craft a spell book"

Intrepid has stated many many times that immersion is an important part of the world to them,

So now that we've astablished that Intrepid are against immersive breaking looks, lets get down to detail,
His main "trait" of appearance is his large top hat with a price tag on it, to indicate his trade.
and he is always depicted as "overly cartoonish" and "odd"

So in your case, the character cloths wouldnt fit the fantasy realm, as they are very modern.
not to mention, overly cartoonish characters will break immerrsion.
Will you be able to obtain a tophat and wear similliar clothes? that might be a possibillity,
however depicting this extreme fictional character will most likley not be a thing.
BUT, dont stop dreaming, maybe you'll end figuring something that will resemble the look

I belive that thematically(Abilities animations/visuals) should be more concerning that roles job. I am calling out the tank simply because I come from a game where you can not play a warrior without having magic implimented in one way or another. You mentioned how the tank would be able to raise walls? Now thematically I could see you holding forward a shield and that is a wall of sorts but raising a wall out of the ground? I do not know your lore but that aside it does seem magical? Will the visuals for roles change what they are as said to be? Will a warrior still have magic, even if he dosn't want to be a magic user?

Likewise to meele combat being soft as you move around and alike - will these animations effect character dmg/stats - if you get hit on your left side that has less armor does that effect it as well?
If my axe swings at 1 tabbed target but there are 2 other mobs does my axe hit those mobs too (based on hit box and alike? non-AOE spell)

@crystal beacon Based on the last stream, I assume that the Combo Finishers (Ultimate Skills) will be class specific and not weapon specific. However, earlier Intrepid said that each class could use almost any weapon, even if it isn't optimal. So, unless something has changed, each class can use a different "combo" to get to the Ultimate Skill.

I'm basing my reasoning on the wording used and the Cleric mostly. Intrepid said each class had an Ultimate Skill (implying there was only one). Cleric's Ultimate was essentially just a mode/form that makes them better at being a Cleric.

TLDR: We can assume that no, the combo finishers (Ultimates) will be tied to your class.

regarding the half breed, there are 9 playble races in the game. none of them considered "half-breed".
however, you'll also have a vast option to customize your character in a way that will remind other reaces, and write his back-story.
In terms of playing an actual half-breed race, it seems like a no for now.

@crystal beacon Transfering leadership will defintley be an option. Altho they have stated that they are worried about people abuaing it, so probably will have some sort of limitations (like cooldown for example) then again, these are my speculations. @empty fjord you won't be able to build a freehold specifically near a mine because when it runs out it will respawn randomly anywhere in the world, so there's a very very low chance for anything to respawn in one spot too often I would assume

@idle siren I would like to ask a few things related to the summer crowd funding and the game itself. since I was planning on supporting the game myself, I feel the need of a reply from your side. Some things, sadly, happened that I feel need to be addressed.

The wrong number of supporters on the webpage. Was it a bug? If yes, why did it take so long to repair it (I was watching that number for a long time, more than 12 hours, if not a day, and it was growing, and to be honest it does feel like a panic button was pressed)? If this issue has a statement already, please just copy paste it, but I want to see it from you.
Release date is in December, + -, I know, 2018. Can a game of the level that is promised be completed in such a time, considering that the team might not be fully staffed at the moment? And if it is not that, then why are the alfa and beta key owners announced of a release date in December 2018?

This game promises but I feel it needs time to develop and grow in what it desires to be. If December 2018, again + a few months, is the game release date, it feels not enough, for what it should be, the all desired WOW killer.
The complexity of the system, the balance, the content development, and to be frank the level of coding needed to make game mechanics work perfectly for a “lunch scenario” will take more time than one would expect. Not to mention to make the ideas you were saying in the live streams work and be balanced out.
3. And while we are on the subject how large will this word be? Let’s make a WOW comparison, so that most of us can understand. The Scale is of interest here. The bigger the world, the more things can happen wrong. Bugs, content missing, and empty places. Will Ashes have that?
4.Implementing a money back sort of system is wrong and must not be implemented. As well as in game credits for cash shop will only make some players get a lot of credits and sell in game products at lower prices. It has been done, and it might become very problematic for the eco nods. A in game cash shop by itself will be problematic, and might open up future problems.
I would be most honored to get a honest and respectful reply to what is only a small, but important part of my concern with this game.

It was a bug, they're busy and bugs aren't always easy to find the direct cause of. The issue was with when they merged some of the kickstarter accounts and applied the summer rewards it counted them as well.
Release date is not going to be December of 2018, that's when the rewards are to be delivered to the backers. Release is planned to be later 2019 from everything that has been discussed. This was one of my concerns at first as well.
They try not to make comparisons to other games for legal reasons. Obviously they don't want bugs, missing content, etc. but it's almost impossible to make something 100% bug free. I'm sure there will be small issues to sort out over time.
The cash system is in, sorry. The in game cash shop is going to be cosmetic only and based off what they have said I HIGHLY doubt they will let people turn that around for re-sell.

@novel flicker Dawnbreaker is a mount skin as well, that will be used in the same fashion, but is only applicable to a certain class of mounts. Meaning you'll have to first earn it in game (the type of mount that is applicable). Same with the underwater mount, as an example.

How will you avoid cookie cutters? Once people determine what the highest ranged dps, melee dps, hps and best tank is (according to numbers), what will stop them taking like 4 tank/tank, 6 cleric/cleric, 15 fighter/fighter and 15 mage/mage to the 40 mans if that's the composition with the highest raw output. Obviously those archetypes are just examples of what the cookie cutters might be

@vagrant finch they've already discussed some unique utility abilities that will be unique to each base class so that's one benefit to bringing multiple classes. Typically, with cookie cutting that's really up to players some one thing will always be the best. Some builds may be "the best" in terms of numbers, but insuring decent class balance and unique utility is what normally negates a "meta."

Using WoW as an example, are you going to raid at a high level as a frost mage? No that's silly. It's just not good for it in dps but you can still pull normals and pvp. It's delicate, but balancing the classes is just what will do that. Which I'm sure Intrepid has in mind.

But those who donated only in summer croudfounding will receive only package bought and summer stretch goals. Not ks stretch goals, those are for ks backers only.

Thus, we still need confirmation on that. Ever since that was proposed, nobody touched on the subject. So there is no "yes" or "no" answers yet.

the strech goals are the "X amount of backers" rewards, not the "add-ons".

Also I'm curious how class balancing will be controlled, nobody wants to be at a disadvantage just because they enjoy playing a certain class and being forced to play another for the advantage, I feel like if you enjoy playing a class and you get good with that character then you should be rewarded for that. I am a bit worried about the ranger class as most companies have failed when it comes to bringing a ranger class to the mix, it usually becomes powerful and easy and puts all melee classes at a disadvantage, thought I'd ask all this as it's worried me a bit.

@crystal beacon Thats a lottt of questions >.> well first off, movement is 100% going to be changed/edited to make walking and running seem more realistic, in a way. Of course along with every animation of the character like falling and jumping. As for the class balance, I believe it is going to be more about skill+gear. Actually, my answer to that question is each class will have their own advantages and disadvantages. So all you have to know is the classes disadvantage in order to beat it. But if the opponent knows your disadvantage, then the win will depend on your skill and gear. As for the Ranger, we will see a video about that class in either a few weeks - months.

@winter estuary That is something i have pestered steven about because rogues having aplicable poisions (for me at least) is the epitomy of class fantasy, but he responded to me... cant find it right now... that rogues will not have poisions they can apply to their weapons. Some skills will have certain poision effects, but as for actually applying poisions to your weapon like in WoW, no that will not be a thing

@winter estuary they may do debuff poisons but they don't want extreme burst that basically combo kills players. They don't want to follow the model like eso has done with their nightblade. They will still have dps but it will probably be like thief in gw2. A good class to jump in and end a 1v1 by small but potent burst while also having mobility to get around to help in the 1v1 situations to make them 2v1

Yeah I suppose. I just feel like Rogues have always been about that 1v1 burst dps. The ability to burst down squishies quickly and try to get away quick at the cost of crap defense and if you miss your burst you basically die.

The "estimated delivery" was intended, I think, to imply that by Dec 2018, we will have hit the last phase of Alpha. @keen matrix Yes, with the Braver of Worlds package you have access to Alpha P1 which is set to come out in late 2018. Obviously it is subject to change as the game is under development. You would need to make an account on the Ashes of Creation site. There is a referral program where whomever refers you can get a 15% credit to their account of the amount that you spend. If you have a friend that you would like to get that referral credit, I suggest you have them refer you. So you would make your account now and then purchase the Braver of Worlds Package from the Summer funding store. 😃

@keen matrix There will be a mix between "tab targeting" and aimed "templates". I've attached a list of the abilities that are likely to be shown at PAX Prime for the Mage Archetype. You can see that there is an ability that says it lays a template in a direction (like a carpet telegraph I'd assume).

In essence; yes there will be a mix of targeted abilities and aimed abilities. 😃

@zenith heron Hi, just to clarify, Im not part of Intrepid Studios, hence Im not quallified to answer this question.
Yet, you tagged me, and I have a very good guess, so with that inmind, here is my understanding (answer):
Due to legal issues, packages that were labled as "limited" are protected as a kickstarter exclusives.
Notice that none of the packages that were labled "early-bird limited" are on the website either.
Later we even got a statement stating that the lifetime sub kickstarter exlusive, was infact "PRICE exclusive", to avoid legal issues, again.
the 10k package, was infact, part of these "limited" pacakges and had no "stand alone full price".
so techincly, reselling these pacakges again might be an opening for lawsuits.
With that being said, no, you are unable to purchase the 10k packs.

Please, please, please, I know this is a loaded topic and even now Im opening an option for 10 more peope to jump in with different opinions,
keep it at #aoc-discussion and reserve this channel for question towards Intrepid staff and direct answers only.

@winter bane I can't really give you a perfect answer. However, including characters/lore that is straight from Magic is most likely not possible due to copyright laws. There will almost definitely be content that is influenced by Magic as it is a universe that has a vast amount of content. We've already seen that parts of classes are influenced by D&D so it is likely that there will be some nods to Magic in the game.

I apologize as this seems unfair, I'm not available to do anything about it, there are other items there that would rip a hole in my wallet if I had a wallet. But, for the May Kickstarter there was no way to buy the demon and angel skin separately, you had to buy the WHOLE package which was 1k in my opinion, this is the discount. Myself, along with a few others that I know are feeling kinda miffed by this 'slap in the face.' I don't mean to be one of those nay-sayers, it's just a little painful to be asked for basically the price of the package we bought, in order to get the stuff from the summer exclusive, after we were told about getting a reasonable price.

So from what I know, the Pridestalker mount is only accessible in the Summer packages, and the add-ons, if you have paid for a summer package with the mount in it, you don't need to pay for the mount. The mount is purely ala carte!

Because the mount should come with the summer packages, so you get the bundle

For the ad-ons it would be stand alone.

@lime flare hi Squeak, if you purchased the summer campaign package then you will own the summer exclusives in that package and below. In addition you will still own your kickstarter package you originally purchased. For KS backers there is an upgrade option but that applies to Kickstarter packages and an add on option which lets you purchase summer exclusives individually 😃

@last elm Judging by Steven's resposes, if you are upgrading a previous Kickstarter package; you upgrade WITHIN the Kickstarter system. If you purchased a Summer Exclusive package and you upgrade you receive the Summer Exclusive items.

In both situations, you receive all items from the current tier and all those below WITHIN your package "genre". Does that make sense?

Is it possible for those that are in the summer crowd funding to get in on at least the backer goals of the kickstarter as well? There are those of us that were just unable to use kickstarter, and some that just could not afford it at the time. We are all trying to support, but I don't think we will get near as much in this summer sale, as so many have already did the kickstarter one. Kinda leaves us out on the side with only the depths of our pockets to get any kind of reward for helping, rather than the group wide backer goals; Left out and longing, wishing our support could reach the same heights. Even though we are trying to help the development as well, we were just unable to participate in the most fruitful part. It would be cool if they were combined for all supporters. 😟

Kickstarter exclusives is legally bound to be exclusive i think. If they were to offer those exclusives again that might bring a few lawsuits to them.

So no. Summer backers will not be able to obtain any ks exclusives except for the lifetime sub which they said the price was ks exclusive. The lowest pack with lifetime sub is now 50€ more expensive compared to the ks packs

#

That being said tho looking at the names of ks and summer packs it seems like the summer packs mainly is recolours of the ks stuff but as far as the ks goals goes if it says exclusive then it will never come back to be sold

I do not think they are legally bound with kickstarter. Kickstarter I believe was suppose to only be for the system of crowdfunding, and that things between backers in it is left between them and the campaigner. Kickstarter stays out of the back and forth. I'm pretty sure that I recall seeing some give out rewards to those that missed out in other campaign. It, I thought is up to the discretion of the one running the campaign, and they said that this is sort of a extention for those that were unable to participate in that one. Even letting the kickstarter backers to get in on the summer rewards. Would be nice if they can to keep all of us collected together instead of segmented in the stretch goal for backers. Not like this is a year or two later and getting people in again, it is immediately following as a extention to help. If possible, we would be very greatful, and if not, I am just extremely sad.

@somber rain Hi Dark, both Shunex and Belewyn are reliable and trustworthy moderators whom I have known for a while now. They will lend a great deal of help to the growth of our sizable community. Of the 9 moderators 2 are people who have been a part of my gaming community. But to be fair, my community has had over 8,000 members in it's 14 years. I will likely be appointing additional moderators in the coming weeks as well, who will not be from TWO 😉

So a quick question that has probably been answered already, after watching the Q&A with TheLonelyPeon. One thing that wasn't touched on is the possibility of Solo play. Is it going to be that much harder if you just want to hit it alone or with one or two others? Or will it be something that will not effect the player as much as some other games of the genre?

Tier I - Tier I should be the lower end/cheaper skins being in the price range of 30 dollars.
Tier II - Tier II should be the mid class/mid priced skins being in the price range of 40-50 dollars.
Tier III - Tier III should be the higher mid/higher mid priced skins being in the price range of 65-75 dollars.
Tier IV - Tier IV should be the higher end/higher priced bundle including Tiers I-III and being in the price point of 130-140 dollars (Give a nice 7-13 dollar discount to maybe help encourage those with money to buy the bundle)

This will then allow those with money and without much money to be able to get something they want without going in the whole and having to sell something to buy what they want.

@spark linden I belive it has been mentioned that some things like the caravan system to give an example will give players in the vacinity the option to "opt in" to attack or defend should they so desire meaning you can still partake in a lot solo, whether you successfully evade the griefers for long though is anyones guess.

@ionic eagle Your Rewards has been removed quite some time ago apparently, there is a third tab called "Orders" that you will want to click, in there your receipt will show!

Or if too many users cast water-based spell, they cause the area to be slightly flooded, making it risky for mages to use lightning spells and slippery for the Warriors in heavy gear. One of the node specific events are in fact a dragon that awakens if a node develops to quickly or the mines get depleted to quickly. Or something in those lines. Specific details arent really out on specific node events and i think intrepid wanna keep them secret so that the players dont know what to expect once we go in to launch
