@idle siren A question about instanced and node housing versus a freehold patch of land.. Why would anyone want anything other than freehold since you can build your house and various crafting amenities on a nice plot to call your own, so why would anyone want an instanced room inside the towns/mets walls? What is the likelyhood of Australian based realms?
Usually the answer is "We're open to it, show us you want it." or something along of those lines, which is a major catch-22 and always ends up being "no".
The catch-22 comes from there not being many OCE players because there are no local servers and there are no local servers because there aren't many OCE players.
Every new MMO falls into this and as a result it usually flops in our region =/
Please don't do this, missed out on too many good games because of it.

The Phoenix initiative reward is an exclusive game instance in which certain players can enter. Think of it as a secret club, where you can socialize with other members. This area will not offer any “Pay to Win” functionality, it will simply offer what the world does in a more personal space. This is an area devs and GMs will often hang out there in their off time, and gives you a chance to interact with them in game!

Class skills are there to facilitate group functionality kind of thing ? Just thinking of ways to rationalise a framework and make it simpler to design within those boundaries. This is intended to simplify understanding and rationalise the designs and hopefully speed up the build process. As you have pre-defined some of the design objective.

It would be unfair if it didn't with new players massively behind alpha/beta players. Alpha/beta is there to help test the game and most of the time doesnt have the full game implemented

@Interprid Studios A little bit technical: Are you going to limit the possibilities of cheating from the beginning? In many games of the past, little attention was paid to possible teleportation cheats or similar checks by the server. Especcially the games coming from Korea (due to their registration with their social number). But it was a very annoying problem, getting from one gathering point to another and seeing people popping out of nowhere, gathering the stuff and popping away just by teleport because the server doesn't make checks for movement.

Since nodes seem to be player run and with the idea of sieges, has there been any thought in having a hirable position for city guards instead of NPCs. Seems like a good way to spend some of the taxes gathered from the populace and would add an intresting dynamic of how well a town is protected assuming well payed position vs poorly paid.

@trail falcon We know that different classes will have different specalities when it comes to movement, as an example rogues are supposed to be the best for going down caves. We don't know exactlt how this will work.

@lone ice taxes can't be taken out by anyone, only assigned to things like building walls, buildings, etc.

@crystal beacon If your house is within the city, your house just de-levels with the node, if your house is out on a freehold plot of land, then i believe it will be unaffected by leveling/de-leveling of nodes

@steven As someone who can't wait to RP a bard tavern owner, the thought of games of chance makes me super excited. I have seen other mmo games try and do the same. My only concern is if it would violate any online gambling laws. I am also curious if player V player gambling would encourage "side bets" between players, such as for guilds spots, gear, etc. How is your team considering this in the design? Any plans to make seasons last longer than 1 week? Would rain put out campfires? Lightning striking trees. Or strong wind causing damage to trees or structures.

@sick yew It would be detrimental to the entire server if most of the server base would focus on a single node. There are 4 unique nodes that can be established (Military, Economic, Divine, and Scientific) Each provides a unique benefit at the metropolis stage and the server would be pretty bland and, in my opinion, non-functional with just one node type being established. And yes i don't think he has given an exact number, but the apartments are instanced housing, so im going to assume there isnt going to be a limit to how many can live there

@grim cipher So, I'll start by saying that, personally, I beieve that any item that has a direct effect on gameplay falls under p2w. Because of that I really dislike exp bottles and other, similar, items. Also, items from the cash shop CANNOT be sold to otehr players at all. Its like this to prevent any sort of cash-to-gold system from happening. AS such, cosmetic items do not fall under p2w.

Are you going to have all these luxuries that cause the difficulty to disappear? In classic EQ theres no quest log, no quest tracker, no map, no corpse marker. With having to learn the area, make a mental bread crumb trail to find where i died, all of that frustrating difficulty actually allows me to immerse myself deeper than most of the other MMOs. I never thought it was the frustrations that made it real, but, if it's too easy it mentally lacks a realism that demotes immersion.

Because guilds have levels and provide their members skills/benefits, how can small guilds compete in activities as well as recruiting? Example: WOW a few years back gave sizable benefits to members of max-level guilds including faster character and profession leveling, faster movement speed, etc. It made it very challenging for small guilds to recruit because who would want to miss out on benefits by not joining a "zerg guild"? Will small guilds have a chance to reach max guild level, too, or is that mainly determined by guild member numbers?

Will small guilds, say 5-25 members, be able to reasonably afford guildhalls? In the Kickstarter, a number of the higher support packages include guild housing perks. If someone is a member of a small guild and buys a large support package, is their "Guildhall appearance" bonus basically worthless because they'll never be able to acquire a guildhall? Similarly, are only the large guilds going to be able to afford acquiring the three nodes connected to the castle for sieging?

Given the class discussions thus far, it appears there is one primary tank class (tank) and one primary heal class (cleric), with off-tanking/healing being possible in some part by classes taking tank or cleric as a secondary class respectively. Is the expectation that only primary tank and cleric classes will be main-tank and main-heals respectively for single-party activities as well as raid activities? Can two off-tank or off-heals players sufficiently support the party instead (e.g. a rogue/tank and a fighter/tank stand in for a tank/x or summoner/cleric and mage/cleric stand in for a cleric/x)? @tawny turtle the motion blur is actually due to the processing @ Twitch, they had stated a couple streams back that the motion blur is not from the actual gameplay.

@tawny turtle correct, the way they are playing the gameplay footage is live via TeamViewer, so you have 2 different processors, Teamviewer's processing and then again on the twitch side. It's actually showing how it should, considering those variables.

Another question. Latency if the bane of most MMO's from my location(South Africa) and a lot of MMO's are not playable and some even region lock. Will Ashes be region locked and will the game be playable with a +- 200ms ping (which is what we get to the EU servers generally). is it to early to tell?

Also, needing players to physically pick up these boulders or giant ballista bolts and physically load them in the machine. This way you would need teams dedicated to operating these siege machines instead of most games just having 1 guy clicking a button whenever the cool down is complete.

@keen hound Head start is 1 or 2 day jump on the game based on which package you bought. You get in the game 1 or 2 days before everyone else, but node development is turned off. It is mainly for exploration and to smooth out the release so people dont all come on the game at once.

This not only makes some of the community look bad but can also push people away from playing the game. Everybody's used to seeing the scam of "I make 5k dollars a week, you could too!!!"
So, it might be helpful if someone who registers off of a spam link can cancel their referral and/or the ref links bring to a page that asks if they want to accept the referral yes/no/this was spam, or any other ideas you guys might have on the topic to dissuade the spamming a bit.

@crystal beacon nope I just didn't realize there was someone named someone, thought that meant anyone should answer lol.... it currently sounds like you'd have to destroy the node of influence and then the freehold would be open to raids
@crystal beacon As far as destroying ppl's houses, it will technically be possible as far as o understand, however, you won't be able to attack the free holds themselves. If you siege a city and destroy it, it is my understanding that all freeholds that use to be placed within the zone of influence of the now destroyed city, will be destroyed. The houses and buildings return to the owners. But the land is now clear of the freeholds.

It'd be cool to see who the top guilds are in different aspects, who the top pvp players are, who the top players are when it comes to dungeons or any other pve content. Being able to compete for top spots in any category would be very fun

@cedar trellis so the thing about free holds is that they're destroyable if the node they're linked to gets sieged successfully so there might be times when a certain area is filled with freehold's but that's what creates conflicts and maybe even a reason to attack a certain node. They're also not instanced
The only instanced housing in the game are apartments, the rest are in the main map

Personally i'm a big fan of either Planetside 2's or Final Fantasy's job system where i play on a single character and unlock/progress all the skills and abilities. One thing i hate is having to create a new character to play a different class and losing all the progress.

@pine needle No paid expansions, no pay to win, no game content behind pay walls. All KS rewards are cosmetic only. Even headstart servers are going to have nodes disabled to make the playing field level at launch.
@sand palm Guessing the content will remain challenging and new since content is locked behind nodes (which will constantly churn) and each world develops differently making guides more difficult to be specific.

@jade crest they talked a little about this in the livestream they had last wednesday. Races will change how you play a class. They said a dwarf warrior and an elf warrior will feel different but essentially do the same job.

Will you guys have a leveling system like BDO where there is a soft cap then infinite levels you can slowly grind afterwords? I really like that feature and feel like it keeps you progressing your character

If players can just keep repairing the gear they have and you make it faster and easier to just repair it, my vendor with 20 different sets of gear on it will never sell because players will always have the same gear. This will make it much like FFXIV v1 where crafters were only there for repairs not to make gear and they all stopped playing. Why not just make gear break and force people to replace the gear then just need a bit of materials to repair the gear they have. That will keep me happy as a crafter vs making me just a repair bot. Having repair kits for the field is one thing making me nothing more than a repair bot is another. I prefer as a crafter to craft like I did in SWG to craft countless pieces of gear and sell it vs repair bot.

@narrow sand there is no official stamement yet, guess a bit to early for it. But most games using UE4 require min. i5 2.5GHz, 4GB RAM, GTX 460. recommanded is usual about i5 2.8GHz, 8GB RAM and GTX 660. Out of experience i would recommand a better Graphics card in order to handle the massiv players during a siege.

I would like to congratulate you early(?) on hitting that 1.5Mil, its a huge milestone and double what you wanted when you started the KS.
I came to this channel to ask you about the Node System. So far from what i have seen it looks amazing. The fact that I as well as others can come together to build a City that is in that nodes ZoI is amazing. In an RPG its been a dream to build my characters story from the ground up, this includes where I "start" my journey and how its influenced the rest of the world. If it works out, would reevolutionize the MMO genre all on its own. I dont know too many games that do that already to this extent. Something has been bothering me though about this system. Im going to be blunt, the building of the nodes seems to be repetitive in a sense. The players come in and start to work on the wilderness and collect materials/quest to build the node up. This in turn will unlock more activities along the way, and provide more activities to the players, as well as unlock world bosses in the higher tiers. From a lore standpoint, it makes sense, sort of. As a community grows, they start to delve in higher technology trees, which will then disrupt something in the environment which will trigger bad things for the community to happen. My question has to do with the sequences of these events and the leveling of the Node system. Wont the process of building a Node up be repetitive in nature? or do you have mechanics to change it up all the time?

Addon support? Doesn't have to be full-blown support like in WoW, but would be nice to have some ways to customize the UI. If there is no official support, people will "hack" the game anyway to do it. Like the damage-meter addons for Tera that just sniff the network, analyse the packets and inject the GUI back into the game.

So, if you look at the scructure of the URL for the referal it has your username in it, I can see how they could tell You/I referred someone if they immidiately clicked the register link. But If they browse to say forums, or media, or something else first the URL changes to the normal URL structure. @near barnes of Creation i was thinking, about interactions, is there any chance in adding a voice system where people walking near each other you can hear them talking, like on a team speaker program, in their own language? And when you move away from that group or person u can hear him lower and lower until you cant hear him/them at all. It would be awesome to interact like in real life :) You can actually help people learning other languages, utleast the basic languages. What about the weadding system? Maybe this game will help people to find their other half and who knows you can counter balance the so called "social websites" Also about those seasons, for example if you are a farmer, will the crop work like in real life, you have to plant them in spring at coultivate in autum like in real life? Same for other jobs, if you are a miner, if you are in winter the rock is to stubborn and stuff like that, each job is affected differently based on seasons, if you mine lets say in summer, the ores are lets say on a standard level and works best on specific items, each item with its own season ore requiered and of course based on that the cost will difer based on how hard will be to be mined, if u mine in spring is better but harder to mine them, which it reflects in consuming food and stuff, same goes for let`s say winter, you get the best quality of ore but you have to be prepared with supplies.

I've got quite a few questions regarding gear & how it works in AoC, I hope these havent been asked/answered before: how many gear slots are there (helm, shoulders, chest etc)? what gear types are available (heavy, light, medium etc)? is gear class locked, and if so how does that work with secondary classes (e.g. can a mage/tank wear heavy armor)?
@terse jacinth gear slots/gear type - no information yet, gear class isn't locked, so you can use it as you want but the stats can decrease with gear that isn't made for your character type.
let's say you are a mage/mage you can use heavy armor, but will not be good for you 😃

Can the freehold be sold, i doubt there'll be enough freeholds for every player. And can you do the farming outside of freeholds, or only on them. those were some things i was wondering about.

Then i think everyone can have in one way or another a propertie. Maybe not everyone can have a luxurius mansion in the city center, but You can have your own place and be a citizen.

@stone bobcat head start servers will not have Node development until the game releases for everyone, you need Node level 3 to claim a freehold. You might have a slight advantage in potential resources to obtain one, but realistically, everyone will have the same time to get one, that you will. (and odds are the majority of the population are other headstarters)

@light locust It sounds to me that base skills come from primary and only augment those primary skills come from secondary. From all the interviews that is what is sounds like but there hasnt been a hard yes or no either way.
I suppose something like that is still up for debate, but I would love to hear what the devs are currently planning and where they're willing to go with the concept, as I think it adds a lot of individuality to one's character
Spellsword sounds like a Redmage from FF. Uses Melee weapons enchanted to do extra magic damage/effects

Also can a node be governed by multiple guilds, like an embassy within a Node. Determining the outcomes of trade and the flow of business in and out of the city.
If I were to set up a node by the sea or river side, will I be able to then take advantage of it's surroundings by setting up a dock and allowing the node to easily access other areas or territories (other Nodes), this being said, could this node make an income for allowing passengers to travel to and from its port using its own boats to transport people and allowing other boats to dock at it's very own docks or to even trade to and from other nodes with similar docks like itself.

Just saw that the game was going to be subscription based. Was wondering if there would be any chance of doing a lifetime membership. The only issue I have with subscription is I play a lot of different games so I may go a week or two without playing a game. So if there was a way to pay like ~$150 upfront I would be very interested. Or even doing something like if you dont log on one day, it doesnt count against the month you subscribe.

@wicked epoch Forums have been having alot of issues with this. Try changing a word when you repost it or it may give the error that you've already posted it. Sometimes if you give it a while and try again it works.

@flat viper yes being a full time crafter is possible in the game, but you will be required to fight mobs or even other players sometimes when it is called for (self protection, or fighting to get resources)

@thorn vector all content will be the same along all servers however since the players along each server will be different/have different interests/goals, servers won't be the same, though it's possible to do similar things/copy another server, it would be difficult as you will need to copy all the players actions from the server with will not be logically possible to do so, thus leading to all servers to be unique having their own direction in which they go. (They all start same but will branch off and go in different directions, creating different "worlds" per server)
My issue with most mmo was repetitiveness of actions. Killing things is of course the core of almost every game, there is also crafting but it's somewhat standardised. Would there be some other way to develop character in a manner that it could have impact on the game? Such idea ws introduced in wildstar few years back, you had your main class, but in addition you were able to choose a path: scientist, explorer, soldier or settler, though execution was not that great. Would you consider offering something like that as additional character development?
Will there be a colorblind mode? Not for me but for other fellow players.

I have a question. The world and nodes are changing together with monsters, enemies and npcs. I take it that those monsters will get stronger as well the more developed a node gets. What do you guys @Inteprid Studios are going to do about players who join severs later and with that begin at lvl 1 with a developed world and monsters. Will there still be weaker enemies for them? Or is there a certain catch-up-system in place? How is it going to work?

@analog flint expect more realistic looking armor with fantasy aspects (remember it's still a fantasy setting) but don't expect kinky armor like a certain game cough TERA cough
Question for AoC, What roll will Tamming abd Breeding take in the game since it will be taking up at least 1 of our 3 artisan skill points. Will the Animals we Tame or breed be sellable on to some type of marketplace? breedable mounts?
