@idle siren I've been reading as much as I could find on your caravan system so far as I have been hoping for a game to create a trading system similar to ArcheAge's. I am pretty excited since you can transport "useful" items, not just money making packs. And I am happy as long as you can PvP and loot if successful.

The thing is, a player would use a caravan because he wants to transport more/heavier items than he/his mount can carry, right? I am assuming the reason you would take a caravan is that they'll be faster/better than other methods of transport. But by doing so you're also making it so anyone who happens to be on the road can attack you freely, as opposed to having to become corrupted by flagging on you if you're transporting by foot/mount.

So after successfully raiding a caravan, will you only be able to take what your inventory/mount can carry and walk the rest of the road? Or will you be able to transfer the goods to your own caravan and keep going from there similar to AA with the trade boats/haulers?

Also, will the caravan be player driven? As in will the player be able to decide when to stop and fight or try to rush through? Or will it be an NPC that just stops when taking damage or even never stops? Will there be different types/tiers of caravans so you could end up with a better transport method as your progress?

Sorry for asking so many questions about a system I know you guys haven't fully fledged out yet, but I was just hoping to see if I could hear your thoughts on it as it matters a lot to me. Thank you!

For the second one i'm pretty sure it's npc driven and it probably won't stop unless CCed else people could just keep attacking until their friends arrive i guess

For the caravan tiers i don't know if there will be tiers for say but Steven said that the mayor can decide to upgrade the caravan's defense so maybe they'll also be able to upgrade the caravan itself but we don't have much detail about that @deep veldt

It's been explained that there are set religions you can join for different benefits, and even ranks within religions. All because the world isn't inhabited doesn't mean there isn't any lore—there's apparently a lot of it!

I know it's tab targetting and understand that casting while running is a thing. I'm more curious if it's closer to a soft tab targetting, first example I can think of is ESO somewhat. All single target abilities requires a taget and needs to be within range to use, however anything aoe and cleave based does not and all abilities have a small or no GCD. Or if AoC will take the old style approach with GCD for all and requries a target and in range for all combat abilities.

@weary hill There are three types: Static housing (within the node), instanced node apartments, and open world land ownerships (building your own). You may acquire blueprints for structures to be built on the land you may claim such as home, stables, crafting stations, etc.
Static housing - There will be a finite number of houses per node. You can build a house in the early stages development of a node and reap benefits from it if that node progresses into later stage. Houses will grow along with the node.
Instanced housing - Basically housing for politics within a node. Houses for government and other political housing.
Open world land ownerships - You will lay claim to a piece of land out in the world. On that land you will have space to build a home, grow a farm, build all kinds of different workstations and so much more.

Could our "map" for the game possibly be obtained via crafting?
Aka players have to go blind and rely on maybe sign-posts and natural markers in the game to traverse the world until they can get a basic "map" and then they would have to craft a "compass" as well?
Then we have to charter our map as we travel, (aka as you travel your map fills out.) Enabling explorers a way to also copy their maps and sell them would be nice as well 😃 you could give maps a completion % and when selling we'd see a "map 95% completed" stuff, Maps could include dungeons, caves, land as well.
It would give those players that just like to travel to travel a benefit from doing as they enjoy.

Perhaps when a node reaches a certain level, a npc in the node could fill in a players node-region.

yes, i'd love to see that, too. creating a map as a cartographer and being able to sell it to heroes would be super nice. and while you don't have to draw it entirely of course, a simple legend with icons/markers, that you can stamp on the specific places would be great. also maybe a possbility to create notes etc.
maybe you even need an explorers item, like a sextant to create a professional and much more detailed map in the first place, while going through the world without it draws the map only superficially. making highly detailed explorers maps highly desirable.

Are these nodes pre-set and can never be changed? Are they determined by the player(s)? Or are they determined by the NPCs that occupy the zone?

I know that NPCs travel between zones.. is it perhaps possible that these NPCs determine the focus of a zone depending on what 'type' they are? Can they spread out to other nodes and overwhelm a node of a certain type to become another type one over time?

I am mega confused by the amount of time spent on graphics and whatnot, as in every video the combat looks incredibly boring. It seems incredibly ambitious to go for all these new and unique features like your node system, but leave the combat system completely undeveloped. All we've seen so far is some crappy mage will a few abilites alongside dozens of fully fleshed out zones. Why spend so much time on these things early on instead of making the core mechanics look appealing?

@viral thicket yes, specialized crafters will be very important to the game, and it will take months to master a profession, you can either chose to masrter one profession, or be "jack of all trades" but then your skill in every profession progress much slower since you need to divide atention between many traits.

Just wondering if weapons and armor types will be locked for your class. Looking at the gameplay footage, we can see the female Mage uses a book as her weapon. I personally enjoy games that allow you to wear plate or leather as a spell caster and that actually offer viable builds using weapons other than staves or books as a caster. That was one of the things I enjoyed the most about ArcheAge and ESO. Just wondering if there are plans to allow players to have full freedom of armor and weapons used regardless of class, and wether these builds will be viable. Thx 😃

I am a solo style player and want to know will there be an incentive to attempt party based content solo? I.e. higher drop ratios unique cosmetic gear or something to show for the work put behind making a character around end game soloing? Not many games have things like this and I would really like to see those who put the time and math needed to make solo builds have a way to get just recognition for things like solo raiding end game content

And example would be the crafting system, you can't craft everything requiring you to get assistance from other players and interact with groups and guild to get things you need.

So we can expect to see something like, if x amount of players complete quest Y, then generate quest Z. If less than x amount of players complete quest Y before time frame A, then generate quest X? I really love it when games have unique and dynamic questing systems, so I would really like to see some kind of quest generating program that could perhaps tap into the data of the players and the lore in order to provide a generous amount of quests to groups of players and individuals in such a way that these newly generated quests have an expiration date or can only be started by the players who triggered its creation.
Just think of the endless possibilities this would bring to the games questing system!

@white loom An open-world house can only be destroyed if the connected node is sieged successfully. Starting sieges purposely takes a long time with a lengthy declaration period, so we won't be presented with situations where you go to sleep and wake up with your house gone. If your house is destroyed, they've said they'd want items to be reclaimable/recoverable so you wouldn't lose everything you'd had in your house either.

It is a Subscription Based MMORPG, at $15 a month. The problem is that mostly the starting area will grow very quickly and then the next zone and so on. How will you prevent mass guilds from camping these trade routes, solely to attack and plunder caravans. Also, how will you prevent mass guilds from securing these routes without trouble because of their size?
•The caravan system is designed to be initiated by the player. Which means, information of the caravans launch time and route, should be a closely guarded secret. Routes will also be diverse, and the world is large, so it might behoove you to scout the route ahead before a launch. Fast travel in our game is also limited, which means unless the guild had knowledge of your plans beforehand, it is likely that they will be unable to organize and travel to a location. As far as mass guilds securing trade routes, there is always a bigger fish in the pond. Also caravans will have limitations on carrying capacity and launch windows that will segment multiple caravans by several minutes, which would space out the caravans, making it difficult to "zerg" a defense.

So i watched a video from @hollow fiber about the lore of the game, lore is one of the mayor things i love on WoW and i was wondering when we get more information about the lore. This would include a sort of caravan but "illegal/immoral" so for corrupt people and the like.
You could smuggle in and out of the node. The same basic rules as a caravan, but if you're caught by anyone, they have the choice to attack (without repercussions, as the smuggling is illegal) or report it, causing a bounty to be placed on the people involved.
Higher runs and even higher reward.

What would go hand in hand with this, is an in-game black market, where you can sell smuggled goods, but if caught you gain a bounty as well.

flying mounts (dragons) are limited to kings and queens of castles and mayors of nodes. Supposedly really really rare egg drops may occur from world bosses but they will expire after a period of time. Flying is going to be rare and fairly limited to a very few people in the game.

Think like Final fantasy 14 where they have a large use of the gamepad mostly because they released the game on PS4 as well.

But also because I have a friend that CANNOT use keyboard for long periods of time because he has thoracic outlet in one of his wrist. And mostly can only play games with a gamepads.

And using a third party program to simulate a gamepad is not that intuitive.

Also it hasn't been stated that houses will be sellable by other players, so I would assume they are bound to players and prevent them from selling them. Also the world is a very big place, so the further you venture out and explore the more nodes will discovered introducing more houses for players to buy, and plots to build upon, and with the certain number of players per server, there shouldn't be to much of an issue for not having enough houses for players, as instances housing isn't limited, but the open world and static housing have limited numbers

@serene totem A referral system is in place which basically means you could play the game for free just off of referrals. Referrals give you 15% of your friend's spending ingame. For example if your friend spent $100, you would get $15 and you could use that money to buy subscription time or cosmetic items. Wildstar put in gear at 1500 rating and then 1800 rating, but that turned out to be bad because of the power spike it created. they reiterated on it and made it so you got pieces gradually, this worked out nicely but was too late.

It definately isnt too soon to start advertising small like this game is doing right now, letting the fans spread the news... that way when a cinematic or trailer comes out, it will get more views, more ad revenue, more income, more fans, and more funding. So I am sure that this game will stay well funded over the years, although does seem like a long time. But alpha is coming out next year and pre pre alpha this year, so not long to wait on youtube content for this game which will help build a bigger community.

One of the main things I am looking forward to in this game is the crafting system.

after playing EQ for 5 years, EQ2 3 years. Guildwarz, Eve online, Horizons, Wow etc and being a dev on Warhammer Online for me the best experiences I had were 1. doing an epic quest that went on and on and on untill I finally got my wizard staff. I really hope that there will be an enourmous and difficult quest line for each class epic weapon. 2. in game events! I was a guide in EQ1 and ran several pre-organised events that were part of the guide program. Having a similar program in Ashes would Im sure add to fun and immertion. Dungeon farming in Legends of Norrath was a superb update..consider a few dungeoun locations where entrance would randomly create a dungeon crawl at beginner, intermediate or hard based on party entering also based on time requested to play. this would be a great way to paarty up with specified time limitation but on hard or extra hard modes have the chance to drop uber loot.

First question of the day is if there is any plans in order to keep players from leveling too fast and outstripping the content in place?
The previous mmo I played developed a problem where because of power creep upping where the rate that people could level all quests became useless. The rewards that they gave became trash compared to what you could get from just killing regular mobs. This also killed almost all party quests and left much of the world as functionally useless.

Second question, do you guys have any plans in place in order to make sure that as the game progresses the lower tier resources don’t become obsolete?
From what I can tell there are going to be resource costs in order to build structures, repair items and (speculation) there might be a cost in order to buildup and maintain nodes? But if building and repairing those structures only takes resources of the first few tiers then the problem just goes up a few levels with the 3rd tier resource no longer being worth mining as it has no use as its not used in building and not worth using as gear.

Final big question is what exactly do you guys have planned for as the endgame? I know there will be raids and sieges of nodes for people to fight in but will there be any kind of endgame gear progression such as a soft cap on enchanting gear or even some kind of exploration journal to find and kill every mob. Just anything that can be worked on that would both take a huge amount of time to do and give some sort of progression to your character even if you already hit max level. It’s a bit of a slippery slope as I’ve seen too much of “you need to craft and enhance a perfect set with perfect buffs and bonuses” to even stand a chance at end game, this made me quit my last mmo but it is also quite fun being able to craft such high level gear and showing off dem dps numbers.

Are there any plans in order to make things such as castles and other nodes sinks in that you can pump gear, money and raw materials into them for upkeep or to recruit and arm the guards stationed there?
Plans for craftable consumable items such as arrows, throwing knifes?
will there be upkeep for houses both in the wild and inside node.

Will you nodes need resources as well as people active around them in order to grow?
Any chance you can create and equip your own caravan if you think the regular ones not secure enough :P

Defender has a flavor that more readily matches the other classes from a writing standpoint. From a game system perspective it may be better too, so that we eliminate confusion between the Tank role in dungeons (which a combo class could do, arguably) and the class. Just a thought!

So you have to level up the node to be able to begin buildings houses. Are the houses going to only be in/around the node? In the Q&A vid homeboy mentions there will be mines, woods, etc that will be PoI and those will become hubs for player (inevitably). @sharp stream Rulers will be mayors for nodes elected by different methods depending on the node type. Which means that guilds can't simply "own" or "control" a node. There are castles that guilds can fight over and crown a king/queen there.

I know it may seem dumb but for Let's Players and MMORPG Video Creators, majority are sick of seeing the bull shit. Immersion is pretty important to a lot of my friends and community members that I've spoken with on the topic. ( Not this community but various members of the MMORPG Gaming Community )

So keep in mind that when talking about quests, there are three main types – Narratives, Events, and Tasks. We want as many people as possible to experience the main server Narrative. These will branch at different scales, but largely at the personal level. Where things change is at the Node level – different parts of the story will be unlocked based on where and when Nodes grow. Unlocking a part of the story in a certain way locks out progression of the story in a different way – you’ll see different antagonists, different NPCs, and different calls to action depending on what’s happening with the server at that time. There’s more to unpack here, but that’s basically where we’re going with the Narrative part of this.

Events are more what we were referring to with the history statement. These can be local, regional or global, and consist of boons or banes. They’re triggered based on a lot of different variables, and some may be one-off Events that occur once, and never again. If an Event is handled successfully, then something good happens to the local, regional, or global area. If it fails, then something bad befalls the local, regional or global area.  They’ll relate to the overall Narrative, but don’t fall into its overall structure (for the most part). These are the things that will be written into history, and we imagine that as time grows, each server’s history will diverge more and more.

@wispy spruce The base specs for unreal 4 engine (the very bare minimum on low settings) is 2ghz dual core proccessor, 4gb of ram, a gtx 580/equvililent AMD or higher with ATLEAST 1gb of VRAM. Considering its an MMORPG and alot more going on you can safely assume the base recommnded spec will be higher than this since they're using a heavily modified version of UE4 so you should expect the specs to be quite a lot highter

@crystal beacon from what we know there will be 4 seasons. Spring, summer, fall and winter, cycling every week. However we hear Deathsproxy mention in his "What we know so far" video on seasons that regular holidays will take place as they do in the real world. I personally do not know if they will be AoC specific (like Hallows End for Halloween in WoW) but I do know that regular holiday events will take place at the time they do in real life.

@tame jetty I would like to add to A Duck, we know there will be one server per region, since PvE, PvP and RP all tie together in this world. So having a PvP server would make no sense since the world is basically WPvP all the time. And as for your first question, I don't know how many characters we will be able to create, but by speculation I can assume we would be allowed 8 so we can have all classes or all races. But that is just speculation. I also think that alts won't be a very big thing is this game just because of all the things you have to keep up with on your main... crafting, Pve, nodes, world bosses, store management, player and guild housing, etc. I think that there will be too much to do on our main character that we would find an alt unnecessary, but I'm sure we will be able to make more than 4. Again, a lot of this is just speculation.

@olive condor It is a hybrid between Tab-target and Action Combat. The combat is going to be a combination of targeting method and positional mechanics that will dictate and determine the ability of skills to land and the efficacy of those skills. Included in the plans for combat is fluid chain attacks and animation cancels.

I think we are going more towards fluid chain attacks when using your weapons. So you have the ability to combo at a higher dmg/dps or something, but it will be similar to as you said right clicking and stuff, but you will have key interruptions that will allow you to combo and stuff. So, animation cancels.

So you can chose 1 of 512 combo nations of race primary class and secondary class. Which will open doors for theory crafting to figure out the best possible combination, and will also add a great amount of skill needed to play certain characters I believe

No you most likely won't lose your stuff in it when the siege is sucessfull. If the siege is not sucessfull everything will be reset to before teh siege happens (QnA in discord as source)

@hard isle yes some quests will give such rewards, an example being the bounty hunter quest which will unlock the bounty hunting skill/title, allowing you to see corrupt players on your map and "hunt" for them which otherwise not be possible unless you completed the quest

Will 'guild power' be a thing? Guild power as in: a guild being influential enough to have influence on the enviroment. Making things like permaculture possible or even 'deserting' an area.

@fossil bloom if a certain guild were to become large and powerful enough, yes they can take over a node and have a heavy influence on what becomes of this node, from sieging the node and destroying it, to building it up and creating it into a power house metropolis run by their guild, all of this is possible but you must take into account that other player and guilds can rise up and take bake the node or destroy it as they please, meaning this will be a very difficult task to accomplish.

@fossil bloom if a said guild wanted to move to move the player base to another node "deserting" the node at which everyone currently harbors is also possible, but it will take a vast amount of time and resources to destroy the current node and bring it down to the starting tier and build it up in another node location, first they would need to convince the player base to move, then they would need to destroy the current node, and move what they wanted using caravan system, and build up elsewhere, this can also have an effect on what kind of dungeons and mobs and other such things in the area.
