While There Can Be Only One's effect is applying, you cannot attempt to summon monsters with the same type as a face-up monster you control

Really? I thought as long as I still only controlled 1 it would be fine, since Hunting Hound would be gone

Nope! The game "checks" if the monster you can summon can be summoned at the current moment, it doesn't care about if you're able to remove the monster as material for summon it

#

The same will apply to: Gozen Match, Rivarly of the Warlords, Ocean Dragon Lord - Kairyu-Shin, and other cards that lock you into summoning/controlling only 1 type of something
