#Negative rating when finishing second with high lap consistency?

Hello,
I'm new (27 ranked races so far) and want to understand why you get negative ratings when finishing 2nd or 3rd with almost perfect races, just 1 or 2 drivers being slightly faster than you?
I think that's one of the reasons why the non-free online races get so little attendance. You seem to be able to improve the rating only if a lot of drivers participate, otherwise you can only lose, it seems.
I attached 2 examples from yesterday. First race, 3 drivers, I started and finished 2nd, a few seconds behind the leader with high consistency. Even more strange, in the 2nd race where I finished 3rd out of 6 with very high consistency and close to the leaders, while number 4 gets the same rating despite being a lot slower. Does anyone have a hint?

Consistency doesn't matter.

In short, it's an ELO system which compares your rating relative to other people in the race, your rating was higher than the drivers ahead of you, so the game expected you to finish ahead of them.

You didn't > negative rating
